I managed to add newly promoted Giants 1B Bryce Eldridge in the open-waivers Perts league where I need a first baseman. I might have to hold him for a while despite the league having three bench spots and a super high churn rate because he’s not 1B eligible in Fantrax, and the Giants played him at designated hitter both nights. In his ten MLB games last year, he played six at DH and four at first base. I think Fantrax needs to update their eligibility requirements because DH is not a position. If a guy plays four games at 1B and zero games anywhere else in the field. He should be 1B eligible. Anywho, I suspect the Giants would like to see Eldridge at first base because he’s an enormous target over there at 6’7” and he’s a good athlete who’s not a ball-butcher with the glove. Rafael Devers actually played okay at the cold corner last year, but at six-foot even and 29 years old, he’s unlikely to provide much defensive value in the long run. On the other hand, moving him to first base at all was quite the ordeal, so maybe the front office would rather not tinker too much.

Blue Jays OF Yohendrick Pinango’s career is off to a nice start in Toronto. Through eight games, he’s hitting .455 and working his way up the lineup. In the team’s last three games, Pinango has led off twice and batted second once with George Springer at the top of the lineup. This suggests Pinango has pried open the window that appeared to him because Springer got hurt, at least for now. He’s unlikely to provide a bunch of power or speed, but this is the type of player around which Toronto has built a contender. They’ve got a little more time for his mostly-a-tough-out profile than other teams seem to.

Just so you know, by way of fair warning, I might get a little weirder over the next couple months. The school year will soon end, leaving me a lot more time to lean into my various suspicions about the state of the game and its players. The Marlins recalling C Joe Mack and demoting C Agustin Ramirez might radicalize me further. Liam Hicks looked like the club’s best option behind the plate late last year and has doubled down with a hot start to 2026. Credit to Miami for shuffling the org chart.

While they were on their transaction shizz, they made another overdue move in releasing RHP Chris Paddack, arguably the worst signing of the offseason. They’re carrying an extra reliever for now, but in theory, this gives us a chance to see Marlins LHP Robby Snelling next time the team needs a starter. He has a 1.86 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 29 Triple-A innings, but the team has options in Braxton Garrett, Thomas White, and Ryan Gusto, who are all on the 40-man roster (Snelling is not).

Another club that’s been reluctant to reveal its best starting staff, the Brewers recalled RHP Logan Henderson to replace the dead-armed Brandon Woodruff. Henderson was cruising through Triple-A lineups and did the same against Washington, recording eight strikeouts in six innings while allowing just three baserunners. Congratulations to the patient people who waited this out. Could Henderson be back in the minors next month? Sure. Anything’s possible in Milwaukee, but there’s also the chance he’s just a viable fantasy number two or three for a decade.

Tarik Skubal’s elbow issue cleared the stage for Tigers RHP Ty Madden, who looked excellent in his spot start against the Red Sox and likely earned himself another handful of turns in the process. Through five shutout innings, he generated seven strikeouts, allowed four hits and surrendered zero walks. He hasn’t been all that impressive in Triple-A this year (4.71 ERA with 21 Ks in 21 IP), but he can execute a game plan with his five-pitch mix and might actually do a little better on a major league schedule.

Scan your wires for Guardians OF Robert Arias (19, A). He’s slashing .326/.426/.500 with four home runs, 12stolen bases and a walk-to-strikeout rate approaching 1-to-1. He’s on the brink of a major leap in rankings across the echo chamber when they start to reshuffle that stuff for public consumption.

The Giants flew SS Luis Hernandez right over the Dominican Summer League and brought him stateside to debut on the complex as a 17-year-old: a pretty big deal that sets him on course to compete as one the youngest players at every stop along his minor league journey. So far so good: he’s hit two home runs in his first three games.

Thoughts on Cole Carrigg and A.J. Ewing? Seem like nice steal guys that don’t have zero power

What do you think is the likelihood that we see Kade Anderson some point this season?

It is equal to the likelihood a Mariners pitcher gets hurt

Great stuff as always! What do you think is going on with Waldschmidt? Feels like he should have been up for weeks at this point.

Speaking of outfielders, think we see Spencer Jones starting regularly in the Bronx anytime soon? Feels like one of those guys capable of random Carlos Gomez esque runs where the strikeouts don’t stop him from big production…or that’s just my yankee fandom talking

Great read as always!

1A) Ben Ross continues to kill it, and is now a fantasy crush of mine, who do you prefer…Ben Ross or Juan Brito?

1B) If the answer is Ben Ross…do you think he gets the call this year?

2) Grabbed Miguel Ullola early when you mentioned him. Looks like he’s doing really well with limiting runs, but seems to be walking too many people. You think he’s still up this year? Best guess as to when?
