The whistle blows and thus concludes our trading period for the 2023 Razzball Commenter Leagues. As a group we made 143 trades, that’s three more than we made in 2022. Of those trades, COUGS R US made 19 as a league, by far the most of any league with AllRice involved in 18 of those trades, by far the most of any manager. The next closest leagues (RCL 21 and 29) made 11 trades. Yes, AllRice made more trades than any other league and only one trade in COUGS didn’t involve their team. Has it made an impact? Hard to say, they are in fourth place in the very brutal Champion’s League, so it hasn’t hurt. Ten leagues made zero trades, ECFBL and Perts made one each. With no more trading, we now have to focus solely on the waiver wire for finding those late-season gems. Could Elly De La Cruz be a league winner down the stretch? Maybe another rookie gets some run and leads teams to victory. We’ll see, there are about seven weeks to go in this marathon season, still, plenty of time to make a charge, just ask Grey, who had a very impressive week. More on that and the rest of the stats for the week that was, week 18, below:
Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land. We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them. The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.
As mentioned, Grey had himself a WEEK. Grey poured on the IP this week, hitting 105 IP, and now sits just over the 1400 IP pace (1024 is on pace for 1400 IP). The big IP push, paired with a fantastic hitting week pushed Grey up 11.5 points, into second, and breathing down Son’s neck. Grey is just five points out of first and this should be a fun race down the stretch. Laura and I went the opposite direction this week, losing 7 and 6.5 points, respectively as we now sit in eighth and seventh and struggle to the finish.
Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam. This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.
I’m not sure the NFBC cutline could be any more confusing, but congrats to Rudy on doing Razzball proud and making it to the next championship round. Son is here too, but as of now is 30 of 30 and would get cut, however, teams have until the end of August to move around, so a couple big weeks and Son could be in it as well. Good luck to our Razz crew.
TOP 25
Vin’s take on the Master Standings while we await official standings. Expanded this week to the top 25 so we can all praise Grey for his achievement.

Both of my teams fell out of the top ten this week and Grey moved into the top 25, which is the reason for the sudden expansion. Make sure you let him know how impressed you are in the comments, and while you’re there, compliment his mustache.

Eight trades to finish us off, including one for Shohei! This is the first time Ohtani was traded this season and honestly, I”m not sure which side I’d rather have here. Derek unloaded a haul of closers in RCL 37, I very much wonder how that trade will shake up the standings in RCL 37.

Grey set a new strikeout record with his big week, passing Malamoney, who’s Perts League team had 108. We also added one more to the wins record tally, bringing us to a five way tie. I really am rooting for someone to win 11 before this season is out.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.
Team: Grey
League: Perts League
Stats: AVG: .235, R: 48, HR: 18, RBI: 57, SB: 12
IP: 105, ERA: 3.34, WHIP: 1.257, K: 110, W: 5, SV: 5
Summary: It’s hard not to give Grey the nod here, so let’s pump the tires a little. Aside from that ugly batting average, Grey’s offensive numbers are pretty great. We’ve already gone over his high IP and somehow he only came away with five wins. That’s robbery. Maybe the 1.257 WHIP has something to do with that, I’m not sure. This combination boosted him up 11 points in the Perts League standings and I’m excited to watch the finish of this league. Can Son hold on? Will Cram It put up a valiant final effort? We’ll see! Pete Alonso was the big contributor on offense while Gavin Williams and Grey’s son, Sonny Gray carried the pitching staff. Nice week, Grey!
