Welcome back!  I hope you survived the weekend and if you’re seeing this, it means you’ve won the war against IT and Spambots in order to gain access to Razzball once again.  Who are the people responsible for these bots?  What is there to gain from crashing a fantasy baseball blog?  I have so many questions.  One of which is why can I not play five shortstops and two outfielders in the Razzball Commenter Leagues?  Bichette, Dansby, Volpe, Neto, Mateo, my SS fountain runneth over.

It’s still the silly season for our leagues at this point, where we can have huge swings in the standings based on 2-3 good days of stats.  So, fear not if you’re off to a slow start.  One visit to Coors and your team can turn on a dime.  Of course, it can also turn on an Alek Manoah start (woof), so, give and take.  We’re still not able to run the Master Standings just yet (battle of the bots over here) but VinWins has once again scoured the standings and pulled all the awesome data for a weekly round-up.  Thanks, Vin!  Let’s take a look at what we’ve got from the week that was, week 2:

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Big swings this week as Son gained the most points in the league with a 29.5 point gain this week.  He moved up three spots to eighth.  Grey also moved up three places this week to move into first place!  Grey picked up 6.5 points.  Coolwhip lost nine points and Kirksey lost 8.5, allowing Grey to slide into the top spot.  MarmosDad was the biggest loser this week, dropping 16.5 points and four places in the standings, down to seventh.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Kenyatta rode a big week to the top of the RazzSlam standings this week.  Ryan beck, who was one of last year’s top finishers popped up to second place.  I feel like some people just have this format down.  I, for one, do not.  Give me roto or give me death.

Justin Mason was the top points earner this week with 732 points, good for a 122 place jump in the standings.  Patrick Leepin…leaped up the most spots this week, with 148 spots gained on the back of a 725 point week.

TOP TEAMS

Normally a look at the overall top ten teams, instead, a look at the teams with 100 or more points this week.

TEAM LEAGUE PTS
Florida Cardinals RCL 16 108
FANTASY ICON 5.0 RCL 17 106.5
stechsjj RCL 36 102.5
Writer6636 RCL 8 101
Reilly81 RCL 33 100

Once again, none of our 100 point teams from last week managed to carry that into this week.  However, each of our top three teams here were teams who were in contention for Team of the Week honors.  One good week is all it takes right now.

Our RCLBots were on the front lines of the battle with the Spambots this weekend and are still recovering in the bot recovery lab.  With any luck, they’ll be ready to roll next week with the Master Standings.

TRADES

All the trades that have gone down in the past week.  Public ridicule is not only allowed, but encouraged.

DATE LEAGUE DETAILS
4/10/2023 RCL 36
Rube Waddell’s Shiny Objects traded Ryan Helsley to rloyod for Adley Rutschman
4/11/2023 RCL 34
Beefstu127 traded Adam Duvall to crkws for Marcus Stroman
4/12/2023 RCL 8
mdubs traded Ryan Pressly to Don’t Panic for Willy Adames
4/14/2023 RCL 34
Team Truss traded A.J. Minter to Chrismannella for Zach Eflin
4/14/2023 RCL 9
cjsullivan3 traded Liam Hendriks to The Fighting Borinqueneers for Kyle Wright
4/15/2023 RCL 37
SquatCobblers traded Marcus Semien to Diamond Archers for Amed Rosario, Jeff McNeil & Anthony Santander

Six trades were executed this week, including two from me.  I’m dealing closers like it’s my job.  Minter’s time in the gig is drawing to a close and Helsley has been announced to be in a time share.  I had zero shares of Adley and had some FOMO there and Eflin is my homeboy and his stay on the IL should be very quick.  This Duvall trade was accepted pre-injury and was just very unfortunate timing.  I would absolutely be looking to move Pressly if I could, and getting Adames in return is so, so sweet.  I’m all for moving closers in this format, especially if you are a waiver wire hawk.  Hendriks is an interesting case though, I’m having a hard time nailing down his value right now, but Wright looks right, and I’d take that I think.

This week saw a new HR record, Vin obliterated his previous SB record, we saw a new high in average, strikeouts, and saves and we tied the current wins record.  Banner week!  Here are some other tidbits VinWins pulled up from the past week:

  • 79 teams had an ERA of 5 or worse.
  • 93 teams recorded 0 saves.
  • All teams had at least 1 stolen base. (The average was 8)

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: stechsjj

League: RCL 36

Stats:   AVG: .266, R: 51, HR: 13, RBI: 50, SB: 11

IP: 57, ERA: 1.74, WHIP: 0.86, K: 70, W: 6, SV: 4

Summary: As I mentioned above, three of our 100+ point teams were in contention for TOW this week, but in the end, I went with stechsjj.  Some teams had better hitting, but none had better ratios or more wins.  That, combined with an above-average hitting week was enough to tip the scales in stechsjj’s direction.  Nice work!
