Oh boy, it sure was fun diving deep into the waiver wire. At this point, you’re committed and that goes for the rest of your league as well. Or at least I sincerely hope that it does, because it’s way more fun to win against opponents who are putting in the effort. Obviously, a championship is still a championship but it feels sooo much better when it is the best of the best. Iron sharpens iron as they say. That means we have to dig a little deeper to find some guys to add. They are out there, so let’s see who is a hottie. We’re short and sweet today but there is some good stuff out there.
Lars Nootbaar – Are you feeling nutty? What if I told you that he just put up a 40 point week? If that doesn’t do anything for you maybe the fact that he’s actually been pretty good for the month of August. One thing he knows how to do is take a walk, with a 15.3 BB% for the season. That’s a very points league friendly number and ranks him top five in that category for the season. He has earned near everyday playing time and has even been batting leadoff against right handed pitching. We could be looking at a big finish.
Jake Fraley – Disappointingly, he sat the last two games but prior to that he was crushing bombs out of the leadoff spot. That was likely due to back to back left handed starters on the mound. Could be in a platoon going forward which is certainly not ideal, but he has been hot the past couple weeks and that makes him worthy of our attention. I must say that I am more intrigued than I was last week as his bat has stayed hot. Daily leagues can maximize his value, while weeklies should peep the projected starters to see if righties are on tap.
Emmanuel Rivera – He’s been the man the past couple weeks. So what makes him good? Well, he has found a power stroke in Arizona. That’s pretty cool, power is great in points leagues. Remember that he only had 6 bombs before making his way to the desert and now he has 10 on the season. That number doesn’t blow you away, nor should showcase what he’s done. Deep league add, everyone else keep a close eye.
JJ Bleday – Told you to add him last week and nothing he has done since then should steer you away from him. He has big, big power potential with that smooth stroke. He is up to 6 RBIs but that’s still pretty silly for a guy with 4 home runs. The RBIs will come, they just have to,
Joey Meneses – Bombs away. He may have spent years in the minors, but his bat has juice, Squeeze it while you can and enjoy the results.
Rodolfo Castro – You have of course heard of Rodolfo Castro., he’s the man who is going to save your season. What does he do, he hits home runs. Ok, he runs around with an iPhone in his pocket, but don’t we all? Check him out if you need corner infield support.
Nick Madrigal – He’s alive. Can he bat .300, probably not this season but he does have elite contact skills. That’s his calling card because he doesn’t have power…zero home runs on the season. We don’t love that but he has been scoring points and he does profile as a points league guy. The long ball may be sexy, but all those hits add up real quick.
Ha-Seong Kim – He is a bright spot on the season. Of course, he hasn’t been a fantasy hero but he has been more than serviceable. It’s likely that he will play darn near every day and we all love that. Multi-position eligibility only sweetens the pot.
