RCL Update: RCL ADPs 2022

We are in the thick of draft season now and we have real, live draft data to sift through.  Numbers nerds, assemble!  We have spreadsheets, charts, and ADP, oh my!  It was a busy week here at Razzball Commenter Leagues HQ but I’ve gone through each league that has drafted and added their drafts to a master spreadsheet in order to calculate RCL ADP.  We’ve had six leagues draft already, but due to a FanTrax glitch, we only have draft data on five.  That’s not much data to come to full conclusions on, but we can look anyway.  We’ve had a couple of hiccups in the early going (don’t be the person who bails on a league 10 mins before the draft starts…everyone hates that person) but we’ve recovered.  We still have plenty of spots to fill including some spots in some money leagues (Drop me a line in the comments about joining any of the ones down at the bottom of the spreadsheet) and some of our legacy leagues like Original Recipe and the Frequent Commenters League.  Both of these leagues are filled with great players, sure to have decent League Competetive Index scores, and are just plain fun.

DRAFT TRENDS

We’ve got five leagues’ worth of draft data to peek at. Being first to draft means first to be criticized, so we’ll dive into the numbers and see what’s going on in the early draft season.

THE FIRST PICK OF THE 2021 FANTASY BASEBALL DRAFT IS…

Fernando Tatis Jr. (5) – All five leagues that we have drafted data for have had FTJ go first overall.  I’ve seen Turner and Vlad go #1 in other leagues this draft season, but FTJ seems to get the nod most of the time.  I am one of the five FTJ drafters and the SS/OF eligibility is pretty nice.  I collected shortstops in the Writers League draft nabbing Tim Anderson and Xander Bogaerts later in the draft.  It feels like the early 2000s, back when shortstops were in their heydays!  We’ll be tracking the first round stats of every draft during the draft season.  A table of all first round picks can be found in my RCL ADP spreadsheet (link below).

WE DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ NFBC ADP
We’ve got RCL ADP!  Here’s a list from our five league sample of some guys I’m lusting for this year and some general notes.  If there’s an ADP you’re curious about for my next update, fire away and I’ll add them to the chart next time out.  This time around I decided to look at some of the kids everyone is excited to draft as well as some soon to be AARP members.

I have drafted, or attempted to draft everyone on this so far.  My biggest regret of the Tout Wars 12 Team Mixed draft was taking Tyler O’Neil over Wander Franco in the fifth round.  You’ll have to nab him in the fourth if you want him in an RCL it seems.

Witt and Varsho are a fun duo to dream about.  30/30 in the minors and a catcher unicorn who should have playing time paired with steals…yum.  I’m not sure I’m reaching up to pick 95 for Varsho, but 125 or so sounds very nice.

Seiya isn’t young per se (27), but he’s new to us!  After CoolWhip’s breakdown of him the other day, I’m sold and trying to draft him everywhere I can at this price (150 or so).  He’s the last of the real high upside OFs in this range and I’m in.  

Torkelson seems all but forgotten in most drafts, but here in the RCLs (thanks to Grey’s aggressive ranking of him) he’s right around pick 200 so far.  This number will only go down (up?) if we get a sniff of him breaking camp with the team.  Get on now, just in case.

Oniel Cruz and Vidal Brujan are what happens if you forget to draft a MI until after pick 200, just nab some late speed with upside and hope for the best!

Now, out with new, in with the old:

Max Scherzer…still a second rounder.  I’m scared of what the Mets medical staff will do to him, but you do you.

One fun thing about covering the RCLs since…well…a long time now is I get to look at all the old data.  For unstance: Paul Goldschmidt’s ADP for this article last year was 80.25, Charlie Morton’s was 128, Clayton Kershaw’s was 41.75 and Nelson Cruz’s was 96.5.  This was with 20 leagues drafted.  What does this mean?  Well, things change quickly around here folks.  Could Scherzer have an ADP of 140 next year?  Potentially.  Why did Goldy steal 1 bag in 2020 and get back to double-digit steals in 2021?  Could he return to 1 steal in 2022?  Indeed.  I think the real takeaway here is, we have no clue most of the time.  I would rather be one year too early on cutting a vet lose than a year too late on Wander Franco though.

If you made it this far, you earn a reward.  I told you I was a numbers nerd.  Now you can take a look at any player you want as more and more data is collected.  I’ll be keeping that sheet up to date as I collect draft data, so bookmark it and check back often.  Next, head down to the spreadsheet below and fill up some more leagues so we have even more data to chew through!

TO JOIN A LEAGUE

Click the LINK in the ‘League Link’ column (see below grid) for the time you want and YOU’RE IN.  Damn, that’s too easy.  Oh, I guess I should also mention make sure you’re joining a league for free or for money, depending on your preference.  If you want a league for money, then 1) Click the link. 2) Pay the money.  That’s it!  No pesky third requirement!  Again, Fantrax and Razzball take no money.  You can join as many free or paid leagues as you like.  To quit a league, go to OTHER –> All Options –> Quit League (located at the bottom).  Now go join some leagues!
