Random ItalicizedVoice (RCL 5) bounced up and down during the week, but finished where they started – in first with 117 points. The lead dropped to 3, though, as Better Lucky Than Good (Partially Torn RCL) raised their total from 112 to 114. Pesky Pole Dancers (Trippin’ Baseballs) also jumped 2 points to 110, and remained in 3rd place.
The reverse schmohawks (RCL 17) held on to 4th, while Big Z’s Anger Management (RCL 33) moved up 2 spots to round out the top 5. Team Beefcake (Too Drunk To Call A Cabrera) gained 5 points to move into the top 10, jumping from 14th to 7th.
The Voice hit .303 for the week with 19 home runs and 52 RBI. They scored 44 runs and stole 7 bases. Carlos Gonzalez (.481/3 HR/10 RBI/2 SB) once again led the way. Joey Votto (.400/4 HR) and Desmond Jennings (.481/3 HR/1 SB) also shone. Jemile Weeks hit .346 and added 5 steals. Alex Gordon, Brett Lawrie, and Victor Martinez all had good weeks.
Pitching was another matter, though, as RIV managed just 1 win and had an ERA of 5.23. That win came Sunday from an unlikely source as Mark Melancon blew a 10th-inning lead, but was rewarded when Houston scored in the 11th.
Better Lucky Than Good led all teams in 2 categories this week, home runs (23) and wins (9). Worldwide Suicide (Ones are GOOD right?) had the best hitting line (.377/57 runs/22 HR/50 RBI/9 SB) while Team DubbsandDizzle (Slam and Legs Special) set the pace on the pitching side. They recorded 6 wins and 8 saves, with 61 strikeouts, a 2.13 ERA, and a WHIP of 0.96.
The ECFBL continued to lead The Dread Pirate Rides Again as the most competitive league. Both leagues actually increased their index slightly this week, with the ECFBL now topping 105.
Grey mentioned James Shields this morning – “for where you drafted him and his 192 Ks, 2.96 ERA, you’ll take it and like it” – so I had to check. In the RCL, his ADP was 209.7. I think that qualifies as a steal. Some other top value picks include Ian Kennedy (197.5) with 17 wins and 161 Ks, along with a 3.03 ERA and 1.12 WHIP and Josh Beckett (195.6), who has a 2.43 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. Johnny Cueto (208.8 and undrafted in 2 leagues) only has 97 Ks, but that 2.05 ERA puts him on this list. And of course, Craig Kimbrel (177.6) has some incredible numbers: 40 saves/103 K/1.70 ERA/1.01 WHIP.
On the hitting side, Curtis Granderson (89.2) is putting up MVP-type numbers. He leads all of baseball in runs, home runs, and RBI, and has added 24 steals. Lance Berkman (224.3 in 37 of 38 leagues) has hit .289 with 30 home runs, and Asdrubal Cabrera (222.9 in 37 leagues) has 21 home runs and is second to Troy Tulowitzki with 78 RBI at the short stop position. He has also scored 78 runs and stolen 16 bases.
