When you’re looking at pitcher matchups for fantasy baseball, sometimes the cards just align for certain guys. On the right day, Piniero can look like Winiero. Or Jamie Moyer looks like “Play Me” Moyer. Or Carl Pavano becomes Pava-yes. It’s all about the matchups, right? Anyone can win against the Indians… Well, maybe. Maybe not. I decided to look at teams, in general, to see what their overall stats could tell us about potential fantasy baseball matchups.
Best Team OBP – New York Yankees. No shocker there, but the biggest shocker was Milwaukee ranked 6th. Their team isn’t doing well, but through no fault of the offense. It’s their pitching that’s Les Miserables.
Most Team Strikeouts – Arizona Diamondbacks. Again, pretty obvious. The Marlins, a perennial striker-outer, is still in the top five, but Toronto’s carrying 2nd place. Anyone who’s seen these teams play shouldn’t be surprised. First comes the Jays, then comes the Ks.
Worst Home Slugging – Pittsburgh Pirates. Followed by the illustrious group of Houston, Seattle and Cleveland. The major thing I take away from that is there are two NL Central clubs. Reds, Brewers and Cards pitchers in away games? Yes, please.
Terrible vs. Lefties – Toronto Blue Jays. Bit surprised they ranked last in OPS vs. lefties with HGH Wells and his mighty cast of flash in the pans. Most surprising was the Dodgers are bottom five.
Terrible vs. Everyone – Houston Astros. No surprise here. They’re followed by the Pirates, Mariners, Indians and Orioles. The only real scary hitter amongst all of these teams to carry a bat is Milton Bradley. And that’s more off the field scary.
Crazy Home/Away Splits – Texas Rangers. In Arlington, I wouldn’t throw more than a handful of pitchers against them. In away games, only the Astros are worst than them. Zoinks!
Easiest Teams To Steal Against – Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Red Sox. Just went over who to steal against for fantasy.
Hardest Teams To Steal Against – Cardinals, Padres, Orioles, Rockies. The urban legend goes that Yadier once threw out a runner in Royals Stadium while he was catching in St. Louis. The runner was Steve Balboni. And Yadier was 2 years old.
