Looking for some feedback. A trade for Ichiro/O Perez for Eveland/Harden just got vetoed in my league. It’s a keeper and I inherited a team in last place. I am obviously building for down the road and see Eveland as Shaun Marcum next year. Also, I don’t need the stats that Ichiro provides.

Whether or not this is a good or smart trade is not an issue. However, what I would like to know is whether it should be vetoed. If anyone remembers, two weeks ago I thought David Wright for BJUpton and BJRyan was not enough value. BUT, it did not get vetoed.

    Feedback?

***Everyone*** Help out RT, I’m heading out to lunch.

  10. RT says:
    (link)

Grey (who replied in an older thread) — I agree with your comment. It doesn’t help that the veteos came from the Commish (who is in first) and the guy/gal in second place. The one I was trading with was in third. I doubt any of them would come to post their reasons, but I can post their analysis on Ichiro if you’d like.

  11. Chase says:
    (link)

@RT: Are you an A’s fan by any chance? I would think that you could find a better sucker who would take Ichiro off your hands for some SP. You would like to trade FOR Rich Harden? It is almost inevitable for him to land on the DL, if he doesn’t die.

  12. BigFatHippo says:
    (link)

    @RT

Not a big fan of vetoes myself. Obviously I don’t know anything about your league but if you don’t need steals, BA, OBP or whatever Ichiro gives you then I see nothing wrong with the trade.

If Harden stays healthy there’s your #1 starter, assuming you need pitching. Eveland as a keeper, I’m not sure about.

As for Ichiro, I packaged him with Soria and Theriot to aquire Chipper, C Young (not Krispie Young, Grey) and Kaz Mat. The guy who traded Chipper got bitched at for giving him up but nobody vetoed. Ichiro then went on his classic May asskicking so it worked out well for both of us.

Nothing wrong with trading need for need, I’d point that out to the naysayers.

  13. RT says:
    (link)

I’m not, but does that really matter? If i’m reading your post right, you are agreeing with me about Ichiro and the sucker part. I think he is overvalued and I don’t really care for what he brings to my lineup. I actually am really high on Eveland and cared more about him – especially in a keeper. And yeah, I am ok with Harden as well. I think his arm is going to be ok and eventually he will become Oakland’s or somebody’s closer. But that is neither here nor there.

My question was: Is this trade vetoable?

  14. RT says:
    (link)

    @BigFatHippo:

    FYI:
League has OPS not BA or OBP. I am currently 1st in SB.

  15. BigFatHippo says:
    (link)

    @ RT

Absolutely not a veto in a keeper league.

You use OPS instead of OBP or BA so Ichiro helps you none in that category. Maybe a little because of the on base percentage but you already know that.

I’d be bitchin about it cause its a bullshit veto.

If you’re that high on Eveland I’m gonna check him out a little more, haven’t thought much about him but you may be right. Thanks for the heads up. Might find me a sleeper in the Razzball league, forget I said that pork burn.

See Marcum ’06 and ’07. And I am high on Marcum this year. I think his K’s are legit ’cause he learned to pitch at the big league level.

  19. BigFatHippo says:
    (link)

You might be right there too. Haven’t had to look too hard at SP because of my keepers, been solid all year. Kept Billingsley and Shields for 5$ apiece so roll with Eveland if you like him.

What’s your sal cap by the way? Ours is 300.

Guys like Utley go for 42$. Mine, all mine too :)

  20. cockyphoenix says:
    (link)

@Tony B.: it’s certainly a small sample size but he’s gotten my attention lately too; was wondering the same. He took 3 walks yesterday to bring his BB/K to a walk over 1. He’s producing more than Everett did, especially against lefties against whom he is 4/8 with 3 RBI and no K

@Zebo: Dye for Cano — I would do that, yup.

re: C. Gonzalez — He’s pretty raw and I wouldn’t even drop a middle reliever for him, unless you’re talking an AL-Only league. Or a keeper.

    EDIT: Typo.

Grey – BVV suggested I might be able to get Furcal or Tejada for Bruce + Renteria. Thoughts?

  26. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Steve: Furcal has been out so long, that it worries me that he might be getting injury-prone as he gets older. If you remember last year, it took him a very long time to come back from injury. Tejada’s decent if unexciting, he’s looking like a 17/10/.310 guy. So, yeah, you could get him, but do you want to? I think you can do better, if you widen your net away from SS. But Tejada is fair.

  31. Endless Summer says:

@RT: I answered in the other thread too, but I can see the thinking behind someone vetoing it.. He had 141 IP in 2004 , 140 IP in 2005 , 132 IP in 2006 , and 37 last year. He pitched in winter league (I think?), so he may struggle as this season goes on. I’m with you on him breaking out next year RT.

  32. BigFatHippo says:

    @The Dude

Manny’s still way better than Matsui will ever be. Check the track record.

Sorry Grey, I don’t think it’s close to fair. Volquez looks like a keeper to me. Guy in my league is a Reds fanatic and drafted him, we laughed. Who’s laughing now?

Who’s happy with Cueto tonight? It appears right now he might just be a Cincy starter for awhile. I’m not happy to here Hudson left with a strain.

Last question on Bruce – Who is benching him next week?

  37. Chet says:
    (link)

@ cruisinke: I see Volquez faltering before Soto, but I also traded Volquez for Hudson and Hud just went down today so I may be wishing he’ll falter before Soto!

  38. Baron Von Vulturewins says:

@IowaCubs: Yes, my evil plan is working.

Question: How am I supposed to win the commenter’s league when I’ve already revealed my Ingenious Secrets on these boards? Who’s going to fall prey to my Closer Flipping ™ now?

P.S. Jay Bruce stopped on the way home from the stadium today and saved a dying child by giving him CPR. Then he made love to a barren woman who is now pregnant with triplets. He shook hands with a deaf man who now holds a job as a symphony conductor. He farted, and someone bagged the gas and discovered it’s the most powerful aphrodisiac in history.

  39. cruisinkc says:
    (link)

@Chet: Yeah. I need pitching but rookie pitchers scare me. I’d almost prefer to go after someone that will be a little cheaper and keep Soto.

  40. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@cruisinkc: I don’t trust Volquez to keep this up. I’d try and get someone safer.

@IowaCubs: I think it’s when you tried to put actual links into the comments. It raised a red flag. Next time just write hotyoungmales.com rather than the HTML shizz.

@Baron Von Vulturewins: He also made me sushi for lunch. It was wonderful and the fugu hasn’t killed me. Yet.

  41. Baron Von Vulturewins says:
    (link)

@cruisinkc: Nope. Volquez will be good all year but you’ll be getting the ass-end of the season — the part where the ERA goes from 1.35 to 3.35.

Soto will cool off too, but catchers are a bitch to replace. (This runs contrary to Gray’s advice and, it’s true, if you have Navarro or Olivo out there, you have options. But you know how chasing saves and scouring the wire for relievers makes some people all tired and cranky and dirty-feeling? That’s how I feel about catcher-streaming. I’d trade a nut for Soto at this point, but then again, I have three nuts. Long story.)

@BSA: You don’t bench Jay Bruce. Jay Bruce benches you.

  42. B.J. says:

Cueto was dropped in my main league recently by a disgruntled owner who used his #1 waiver on him. Would you drop Thome for him? I’m set at SP but am looking at Cueto as a piece I can trade later on in the year. Also keep in mind Thome has been blowing nuts on my bench all year so it’s not even like I’m going to miss his production. O and before I forget there is no trade market for him trust me I tried. Wicked excited about the Razzball league by the way fellas. my team is She Said…Fukudome

  43. Baron Von Vulturewins says:
    (link)

    @B.J.: Yes. Do that.

  44. Steve says:
    (link)

@Grey: How about something like Howard + Bruce for A-Rod? The guy with A-Rod might just go for it (he drafted Pronk in the 2nd). I could move Atkins to 1st.

  45. BSA says:
    (link)

Alright no more on Bruce, but how about sliding down the slope to Kershaw, all indications lead to him having a couple of more starts max. With him running out there this week with the pressure of do or die back to the pen or triple A I am thinking I need to be happy my trigger finger for pickups landed me bruce and let Kershaw go. Guthrie is someone who is in free agency I will probably serve me better now and throughout the season.

Also, as long as I am considering dropping people – What do I do with Greene at shortstop? There are a number of SS available and his two+ week slump looks great between Kinsler and ARam’s hot streaks.

  46. cruisinkc says:
    (link)

Thanks for the advice guys. I am going to hold on to Sotofor now. I think I may be able to get Billingsley for a closer, and Billingsley is a lot safer to me then Volquez.

Thank you everybody for your interest in the inaugural RazzBall All-Star fantasy league. The league is full pending acceptance of the invites that have been extended. If I wasn’t able to get you in I apologize, but I did what I could and even stretched the league out to 16 teams to squeeze in a few more. If we have a spot open up for any reason I’ll be contacting people to fill the holes.

  53. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Steve: It’s a fair trade that you’re suggesting, it’s just not the strongest. The idea of trading Bruce straight up for someone like say Torii Hunter or Wainwright is you’re moving the unproven for the more proven and upgrading a piece that you might have that’s weak. Arod to Atkins is an upgrade, but Howard to Atkins is not an upgrade and you’re losing Bruce. See what I mean?

@BSA: I wouldn’t suggest you drop Kershaw out right, but Guthrie will probably be way more usable than him this year. Who are the SS that are available?

@cruisinkc: I wouldn’t go after Hamels right now. He hasn’t looked good the last two times out, which could be a sign he’s hiding an injury.

@BigFatHippo: I betcha your roommate would love Roadhouse.

Frenchy just hit the ww in a league, funnily enough he was dropped for Liriano. I’m tempted to pick him up. RF position currently held down by Markakis with the stop-gap D. Murphy spelling him. Worth the gamble?

I’m also scratching my head about who to drop when Posada comes back. Bengie has done a commendable job behind the dish in his stead. Ideally I could sell one of the two, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear cut sell-candidate here. Posada is going to be undervalued because of his shoulder issues and I don’t think too many people bought into Molina’s hot streak. The travails of the make-believe-manager.

  64. Tony B. says:

I have Dioner, Doumit has been sitting on the waiver wire since I dropped him, I can’t believe no one added him and DL’ed him until he returned. So the question is, do I drop Dioner and pick Doumit back up now?

  65. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Baron Von Vulturewins: Yup, not a huge fan of pitchers that have arm problems, unless the deal’s too good to pass up. I don’t think your deal is.

@cruisinkc: I don’t like Ollie Perez for that reason. He’s too erratic.

@p0rk burn: I’d try and move Posada, but you’re right, he’s not going to be easy to sell. I would grab Frenchy.

@Tony B.: Can you DL him instead of dropping Dioner just to see how he’s going to be when he does come back?
