Pitcher Matchups for Fantasy Baseball
When you’re looking at pitcher matchups for fantasy baseball, sometimes the cards just align for certain guys. On the right day, Rodrigo Lopez can look like a surefire start… Actually probably not. But for fantasy fourth and fifth starters it can be about the matchups. It’s especially helpful to keep this in mind for H2H leagues where on any given Sunday a team can win or lose. Hooah! I decided to look at teams in general to see what their overall stats could tell us about potential fantasy baseball matchups.
Most Team Strikeouts – Arizona Diamondhacks. As great as Krispie’s season has been, when you see him leading off you have to wonder if the ‘Hacks could strikeout out 10+ times against Livan Hernandez.
Worst Home Slugging – Seattle Mariners are leading the league in just about every worst of category at home and on the road. Well, them and the Astros. But, where the Astros have actually been doing better recently, the M’s are actually getting worse. Ichiro and then pray for eight HBPs.
Terrible Against Lefties – Orioles, M’s, Indians, Blue Kays and Astros are the bottom five teams for OPS vs. lefties, disrespectively. The surprising one (for me, at least) is the Blue Kays. They lead the majors in homers and lead everyone but the Astros in taking a dump against southpaws. Wells has 3 homers and a .203 vs. lefties, Bautista has 5 homers and .221 and Hill has 2 homers and .123. They are all righties. If anyone can explain the Blue Kays this year, please do.
Terrible Against Everyone – Padres, O’s, Pirates, M’s and Astros are the bottom five teams in OPS in the Major Leagues. No real surprises here. The Padres are winning games because of their pitching and to spite Jake Peavy.
Easiest Teams To Steal Against – Pirates, Mets, Red Sox, Yankees. Posada or Cervelli, they’re equally easy to steal on. Barajas has caught 4 of 26, not great. V-Mart will be a nice boost to opposing baserunners once he returns. But leading the world in allowing the extra base is Ryan Doumit with 68 steals allowed and only 8 caught. His defense is making a compelling case for him to DH in the AL one day, too bad his offense isn’t.
Crazy Home/Away Splits – The Rockies aren’t surprising with their Home/Away Splits (.484 SLG in Coors, .364 in Away games). Two other teams that are not road scholars are the Diamondbacks (.469 Home; .372 Away) and the Rangers (.463 Home; .382 Away).
Day/Night Splits – The Rangers show up again as a team that is much better at night. Probably because their day games in Texas hover around 120 degrees in the shade. The Royals actually lean the other way. Their OPS is 72 points higher in day games. Someone in the peasant Royals organization might want to consider just removing the stadium lights rather than trading for unproductive vets.

Jays fan here, and I was looking at the vs LHP thing earlier this year. I came down to performance vs change-ups. Check the pitch value stats for the lineup on Fangraphs, it’s horrible. The only ones who were positive when I checked it were Overbay and Buck. See the trend?
July 20th, 2010 at 11:18 am
So I have an intriguing trade offer in my keeper league… A guy is rebuilding for next year and is looking to sell off lesser players if he can get one good player in return as we can only keep 5 players each year.
His offer to me is:
I get: Kelly Johnson, Nick Markakis, Carlos Quentin, Aramis Ramirez
I give: Matt Holliday, Howie Kendrick
Right now I have Howie Kendrick at 2B, Torii Hunter, Holliday, Braun in the OF, Victorino in my UTL spot, Wright in my 3B spot. It gives me depth but I’m not sure its worth doing.
Thoughts?
@Mark: I saw that Buck was decent vs. lefties. Can’t really rely on him. But why are guys that are usually fine vs. lefties not hitting them this year? And why is ever ball going out in Toronto? And who is Bautista?
@cruisinkc: I wouldn’t do it.
July 20th, 2010 at 11:42 am
So I just got offered Carl Crawford, Maicer Izturis, and Wandy Rodriguez for my Brandon Phillips and Clayton Kershaw.
Hehehehehehehehehehehehe.
@Mark Geoffriau: Hehe
July 20th, 2010 at 12:28 pm
Hey Grey, question from the last thread: you like Escobar over S. Drew from here on out?
As always, thanks!
July 20th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
Hey Grey, in my keep 5 OPS/QS league I was offered Konerko or Berkman for one of my pitchers. I’m kind of scared of either of those guys, but figured I should think it through. Would trading one of my lower end starters like CJ Wilson, Garcia, DLR, Morrow, or Bumgarner for either of them improve my team? They would stop gap Morneau and let me drop Chris Davis. When Morneau returns I can slot LaPorta in the OF and bench Granderson if he never turns it around. But…both of those guys are older and not as trust worthy so I would only do it if I could get away with trading a SP of lesser value.
@Phillies Red: Yup
@Bodymore: Trading dlR for either would work.
July 20th, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Yo Grey, need your expertise brah. I’ve been offered Kelly Johnson for Dan Haren. Now, I’ve got Scott Baker who I’d much rather give up for Johnson, but this is what I was offered and I doubt that counter would be approved by my opponent/friend. Whaddya think? I do see Haren finishing strong, but then again, his season’s been weak sauce. Your thoughts on the trade?
July 20th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Grey, could you rank these guys as potential keepers next season? Keep 6 total, and I have Votto, Zimmerman and Pedroia as no-brainers. League is a bit unusual in that there are only 3 OF spots and no MI/CI, with one UT spot..
Jayson Werth
Pacman Jones
Elvis Andrus
Jason Bay
Nick Markakis
Gordon Beckham
Curtis Granderson
Drew Stubbs (most underrated player in fantasy)
Jon Lester
I joined this league late and didn’t buy in, so I’m not eligible to win any money for winning the league, thus I’m only interested in guys that are potential keepers; I’ve added Pedroia, Bay, Markakis, Beckham and Stubbs recently as guys who are either keep-able now or would be with a big 2nd half…
July 20th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
A guy just reiterated his offer of Abreu for Marcum despite Marcum’s cover version of Helter Skelter and I’m tempted to take it. Should I? It’s sort of bird in the hand/turd in the bush, but I feel this might be like the Manny Ramirez afterschool special: you start with a handful of pills, progress to a sonogram, and end up with 3 months unpaid maternity on the DL.
July 20th, 2010 at 12:50 pm
Yunel’s apparently day-to-day after being HBP yesterday. It looked scary at the time, even though he stayed in the game.
@Matthew: I wouldn’t do it.
@Adam: Werth, Andrus and Lester…
@Long Bawls: Ha… Yeah, it’s not really that exciting either way. Depends on your needs. Marcum has a bit more upside.
@DrEasy: Thanks for the heads up!
July 20th, 2010 at 1:07 pm
@Grey: Thanks…out of curiosity, where do you see Stubbs being drafted next season if he stays at his current pace and finishes around .250/90/25/90/30? He intrigues me because he was a first round draft pick, is currently only 25 years old, and seems like a lock to go at least 20/20 in his first full season…
July 20th, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Hey Grey,
I was offered Dan Haren and Tyler Clippard (we have Holds as a Stat) for Roy Oswalt and Chris Davis – I give up the latter. I know your usual response (appropriately) is what is your need. On its face though, do you think it is a fair deal? I am always interested in improving my pitching, but I have to say that Oswalt has probably been my most consistent pitcher all season, even though he was my fourth one drafted.
As usual, thanks much for the assistance.
July 20th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
Im looking to trade Strasburg for a 3B
Its a 12 team points league (-1 at bat. +1 hit. +5 single. +10 double. +15 Triples. +20 HR. +5 Runs. +5 RBI. +3 Walk/HBP. -1 Srike Out. +10 Steal. -5 Caught Stealing)
Here are the options I could get (ranked in order of points they have given thus far):
Bautista, Prado, Young, Beltre, Arod, Zimmerman, Reynolds.
How would you rank em rest of the season and at what point is Strasburg too much for them
Thanks
July 20th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
Gracias Senior. Just for the hell of it, I’m going to counter Johnson for Baker, since I’d be rejecting the trade otherwise. Peace!
July 20th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
Great stuff as always.
Stuck in a “no trade” 11 team (?) roto league. You know the kind…everyone only wants to trade for your Big Albert and they might be willing to offer up Glaus and another piece? Ugh. Then you come around looking to trade high on Hamilton (he will get hurt, right?) and you can’t get anywhere. All I get is: how about Pujols?
Finally able to turn to Hammy into Longoria…I think it’s the safer bet.
There’s something to be said for “locking in your gains.”
July 20th, 2010 at 1:28 pm
Would take Volquez to get Konerko. Was kinda pysched bout getting Volquez, but it is just 1 start so there’s still some unknown. Maybe i could stlil get Berkman for one of the lesser guys. Better move? Any move?
@Adam: A first round draft pick? He’ll be drafted around the 10th round.
@Yankees2010: I wouldn’t trade my most consistent pitcher for a guy who’s having an off year.
@alvaro: A-Rod, Zimmerman, Young… I’d get one of them.
@Matthew: De nada.
@teufleshuffle22: I’d take Longoria.
@Bodymore: Sure, try for Berkman for a lesser guy.
July 20th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
You know, I don’t get why the Astros are so bad.
Anyway, I was offered this deal. I trade Posey and Tabata and get Stubbs and Gaby Sanchez. I was also offered Stubbs for Posey straigut up. I don’t like either because I like Posey too much. What do you think?
I countered w/ Posey, Tabata and Hawpe for Stubbs, Ortiz, Orlando Cabrera. I don’t think he’ll do it but what do you think?
July 20th, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Another quick question. Should I sit Sandoval against Kershaw and start Tabata instead against Bush? Sandoval has had trouble w/ lefties and I could use Tabata’s steals. On the other hand Sandoval is pretty hot. Or should I sit Bay though hitting in AZ against a no-name pitcher is tempting.
July 20th, 2010 at 1:42 pm
Grey, for next year, are you feeling Stanton or Lind?
July 20th, 2010 at 1:47 pm
@Grey: MLB draft first round (8th overall in 2006), not fantasy first round
July 20th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
I need HRs and BA for the rest of the year, do I want Huff or Carlos Gonzalez?
July 20th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
@Yankees2010: Unless your league is ridiculously deep, never trade for holds…I’ve made a killing so far selling high on MR and then replacing them with another guy who has been pitching well over the last month or so on waivers
July 20th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
I was just offered a trade… H2H, 12 teams, 5×5. My pitching is terrible, his Offense is weak. Who wins:
Nelson Cruz/Brett Gardner for JJ/Carlos Lee
July 20th, 2010 at 1:59 pm
@Grey Am looking at some options for 2011 for 2B: Eric Young Jr., Sean Rod or Neil Walker? Thanks!
July 20th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
@Prado: I think Nelson Cruz and Gardner are top hitters, Cruz being top 10 when he’s healthy. JJ is a top 5 pitcher but Carlos may not even be a top 100 hitter. In other words I wouldn’t do it.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
@Grey: Never mind heads up, he should have kept his hands down.
Of course I’d just picked him up…
July 20th, 2010 at 2:15 pm
David Freese breaks big toe while already on the disabled list
O’s will activate closer Gonzalez on Friday
Nate McLouth will be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.
Carlos Gonzalez is out of Tuesday’s lineup against the Marlins with a bruised left index finger.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:15 pm
@Dr. Orlando Schadenfreude: I think Huff is better for HR’s and BA the rest of the way than Carlos Gonzalez but I think Carlos Gonzalez is so much better overall.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:17 pm
i don’t have any supporting data, but could the blue jays HR binge be a result of a rogue air conditioner operator turning on the fans blowing out while the Jays bat? (I mean, even YEscobar is now a power hitter). I believe their were some rumors about the twins in the metrodome in late 80s-early 90s having someone doing something like that.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:18 pm
I’m in a 12 team, deep keeper league. I’m sitting pretty high in power totals but am in about 4th place in saves. I have Dotel, Capps, Heath Bell, and a few “in waitings”.
Was just offered Mariano Rivera and Dallas Braden for Corey Hart and Alex Gordon. The guy that offered is in last place and is trading for next year.
I have Hart and Gordon both for cheap, so they could be great keepers, but I am trying to win this season.
Do you think I should pull the trigger or try and wrangle more out of him?
July 20th, 2010 at 2:22 pm
@ETMcgee: Wouldn’t that be hard to do considering it’s an outdoor stadium most of the time?
July 20th, 2010 at 2:24 pm
heh, some sundays even darren oliver stonewalls you.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:28 pm
@Grey: Wow, first round pick for Stubbs next year, huh? Does it mean you would drop Pierre for him right now? The thing is, I need BA and SB, and Pierre does better in both. But then again, Pierre is on my bench most of the time because he penalizes me in the other categories. I could drop Pierre, and play Stubbs over Grandy and probably do better, right?
July 20th, 2010 at 2:29 pm
@Frank Kim: possibly, though it could be argued that it could still have an effect with the roof open (certainly less). Without a bunch of HR data it is an unsubstantiated hair-brained conspiracy theory…
July 20th, 2010 at 2:31 pm
@ETMcgee: Those are the best kind.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
Geez, just had a trade accepted that I hadn’t really considered. I sent a counter offer to the @guy I mentioned above. …offered Scott Baker for Julio Borbon, just for kicks. And he accepted.
Oh well, I think I’m happy. I’m dumping Baker and at least getting the possibility of some average, runs, and steals which I could use.
@Frank Kim: I’d take Stubbs over Posey in a non-keeper. I’d sit Tabata.
@Black Beard: They’re about the same. I’d probably go with Stanton as of right now.
@Dr. Orlando Schadenfreude: CarGo
@I’m so Prado of you: Agree with Frank, I’d go with Cruz.
@Howard: EY
@mr baseball: Thanks for the updates!
@Frank Kim: If you click the arrow next to someone’s name, it automatically adds the person’s name to your comment.
@ETMcgee: Sounds about as reasonable as any other explanation.
@Tyson: Wrangle more or trade for a lesser closer with a lesser piece.
@DrEasy: Stubbs has been better than Pierre.
@Mark Geoffriau: Yeah, it’s all right.
July 20th, 2010 at 2:53 pm
My Bay for his Liriano….no reason not to do this, right?
@JackInTheBox: Sure, if you need pitching.
@JackInTheBox: Sorry the double negative threw me off. I’d do it.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
Asdrubal’s starting tonight.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
Now here this – The Dribble is back!
Activated today, batting leadoff…
July 20th, 2010 at 3:11 pm
@Steve: Your delivery was better. I need to work on my schtick.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:12 pm
And McLouth is returning tomorrow. Apparently his .636 OPS in AAA was all they needed to see to confirm that he’s back to normal.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:13 pm
@Grey: Sorry about that double negative, I won’t try not to not do it again….and yes, I need a little help with pitching. My only ace is Lester and then comes Garza and Filthy Sanchez.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:21 pm
@Grey: Thanks again for the advice. Also didn’t know about the arrow. Is that a WordPress plugin (assuming you’re using WordPress)?
July 20th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
Such a useful post, No way I was going to look up all this shiz. Youbare a machine.
While I’m at it, beckham or FeLo? Chris David or cust? Walks and slugging count. Thanks man.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
@Grey: Snider > La Porta?
Had to show La Porta the (ahem) door to activate The Dribble and have Snider on the bench.
Relax RCL Original Recipe-ers. I’ve already made the move, just seeking feedback…
@Steve: Nice
@JackInTheBox: No worries, I just got confused at first.
@Frank Kim: Yeah, it is. Think it’s called @ Reply.
@Slam: Thanks! Beckham, Davis…
@Steve: Yeah, that’s fine.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
@Steve: I just don’t get the love for “The Dribble.” He has just not been good this season, 1 SB, .690 OPS, 35% BB/K, 7 RBI’s in 136 AB’s. La Porta has been pretty awesome while Snider is in AA with no definitive date for his return and questions about his playing time when he does. My guess is the Jays trade someone to free up room and Snider is back in August.
July 20th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
@Grey: Thanks. I should really have dropped The Insurance Salesman, but he’s been hitting (and stealing) and besides, there’s no way I’m ditching him on the day he faces Wakefield…
July 20th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
@Frank Kim: You may well end up being correct, but compared to the clowns I’ve been rotating through that spot so far this year, he looks like Honus Wagner.
Not to mention, his name sounds like Ass-Dribble (snigger).
July 20th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
@Grey: Got Asdrubal coming back do i bench Jose Lopez and have him play 2B or do i bench Alex Gonzalez and have him at short?
July 20th, 2010 at 3:44 pm
@Grey: Thanks! Just installed it on my blog but unfortunately it doesn’t work w/ my theme.
@Alex: I’d bench Lopez.
@Frank Kim: Sorry, can’t help you there.
July 20th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
@Grey: That’s okay. Just appreciate the baseball help.
July 20th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Start Leblanc against the Braves? Am leaning towards benching him- 14 team.
July 20th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
starlin castro, yunel escobar, or bartlett for the rest of the season?
July 20th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
uggla, nelson cruz and kershaw for Aardsma, crawford and utley, which side?
@vinko: Don’t start hodgepadres in away games.
@Adam: I never understood these rest of the season questions, but grab Yunel.
@broadstreetbrawler: Uggla side.
July 20th, 2010 at 4:28 pm
@Grey: RE: Blue Kays
Thought maybe they had just run up against weak lefties. Not the case. 7 of the 10 HRs against lefties came at home. At the time they pitched, the lefities had an average ERA of 2.95.
Remain befuddled?!?
@simply fred: I was thinking that might’ve been the case but didn’t feel like researching, thanks for doing the leg work.
July 20th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
@Grey: Anytime you need leg work, consider me a marathoner. Just shoot it my way.
July 20th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Nice of Wigginton to finally hit another HR, right after I dropped him. I’m surprised they didn’t move the game up so that he could homer mere seconds after I dropped him, instead of having to wait a couple hours to sucker punch me.
Also, D Norf Dawg’s on fire! That oughta show you for calling out SD’s offense!
July 20th, 2010 at 4:49 pm
@Grey: Say, Gameday has wind at 10 S. Does that mean the wind is blowing S to N or the otherway. Am debating starting/benching lefty Colvin (he is starting) against lefty Wright. ??
July 20th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
@Grey: It’s between Colvin or Pagan at AZ.
July 20th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
Which side of this trade would you want? Colby Lewis or Aramis?
July 20th, 2010 at 4:55 pm
Anybody on the wind thing. When it says 10 mph S, does that mean TO or FROM the South?
July 20th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
@Mike: Aramis.
@royce!: I wish I would’ve known you were dropping Wigginton, I would’ve grabbed him. Now he’ll probably get traded to the Rockies too.
@simply fred: Blowing south, I would think. So North to South. I’d start Pagan.
@Mike: Aramis
July 20th, 2010 at 5:01 pm
@simply fred: @Grey: Sorry, Grey, but wind direction is the direction from which the wind originates, so it would be blowing from the south to the north.
Oh, and I’ll definitely give you a heads up next time I’m thinking of dropping someone. I suppose for the universe to stay even, my loss has to be someone else’s gain!
July 20th, 2010 at 5:01 pm
@Grey: Just googled it and says FROM the South. Still start Pagan with wind blowing out at 10 mph at Wrigley?
July 20th, 2010 at 5:03 pm
@Grey: Just re-read this stuff. More than one reader must be getting a laugh out of putting you to the test of adding wind direction as yet another thing to consider!
July 20th, 2010 at 5:04 pm
@Grey: Seriously, though, Wigginton’s been a drag on my team for way too long. .174 and 1 HR over the last month? I could have gotten better if I had started Miguel Cairo.
July 20th, 2010 at 5:05 pm
@royce!: Thanks, Royce. And, yes, your headsup on drops would be much appreciated!
July 20th, 2010 at 5:06 pm
Pedro Alvarez is 2-2 and 2 homeruns so far tonight – does that mean he is hot grey
July 20th, 2010 at 5:06 pm
@royce!: BTW, got sonuvabenched by Stanton last night. You want a headsup on my benchings?
@royce!: Oh, I figured it was the other way. Thanks for the info!
@simply fred: Start Colvin.
@mr baseball: It means Dave Bush isn’t a good pitcher.
July 20th, 2010 at 5:09 pm
@simply fred: Ha! Maybe I should start my own blog… players I dropped (and that you should therefore pick up) and the dudes I dropped them for (who you should avoid like the plague).
July 20th, 2010 at 5:10 pm
@simply fred: Yeah, I had him on the bench as well. Sorry, that coulda been my fault as well.
July 20th, 2010 at 5:10 pm
@Grey: Bushwacked!
July 20th, 2010 at 5:11 pm
@Grey: Thanks. End of season, will point back to this as the over-the-top-call.
July 20th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
@royce!: Only 5 of the 10 were earned! Mr. Lucky!
July 20th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
@royce!: I have Luke Scott still in the DL hole–2 HRs tonight. Joint blog?!
July 20th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
@simply fred: Nice! I would’ve done the same thing.
July 20th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
O.K. Who got Lincoln-Ass’d (assassinated)?
July 20th, 2010 at 5:46 pm
How long of a leash are we giving Chris Davis? I think he’s 6 for 35 since being recalled.
July 20th, 2010 at 5:47 pm
12 teams, H2H, 5×5, Non Keeper
How would you rank The Adverb, Johan and Weaver for the rest of the season? And I guess you’d trade any of them for Holliday?
July 20th, 2010 at 6:21 pm
@simply fred: @royce!: Sonavabenched by Stanton yesterday and Alvarez today. Any gaps left by you two would most assuredly be covered by me.
July 20th, 2010 at 6:21 pm
I tell ya – Red Sox are going to get Iannetta. They talked about it earlier in the year and now Tek’s foot is coming along at a lot slower rate than Pedroia’s.
July 20th, 2010 at 6:30 pm
On This Day In History :
1858
Fans are charged (for the 1st time) to see a baseball game .
Approximately 1,500 people pay 50 cents to see the New York All-Stars
beat Brooklyn , by the score of 22 – 18 ,
at Fashion Race Course , on Long Island .
(that’s pre- civil war shizz , for all you history buffs) .
July 20th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
@simply fred: @royce!: Just realised, I missed out on a two-homer game from Stewart because I sat him in favour of Alvarez, and now I have missed a two-homer game from Alvarez because I sat him in favour of Stewart.
@royce!: I’d give him another week or so, but it depends on what else is out there.
@Vince: http://razzball.com/fantasy-baseball-top-100-for-second-half-of-2010/
@BSA: I doubt it, V-Mart’s coming back.
@big o: Interesting…
July 20th, 2010 at 6:41 pm
Someone get Chone Figgins to start hitting…or something.
@Aaron: I like the idea of ‘or something.’
July 20th, 2010 at 6:45 pm
Chris Johnson goes deep again today. I picked him up after one of Grey’s Buy posts about 2 weeks ago.
July 20th, 2010 at 6:46 pm
@Grey: It can all be traced back to my adding Alvarez to my Fantasy Razzball team. And Jeff Franceis. And Yunel…
@Aaron: Nice!
@Steve: I got sonavabenched by Bush today in Fantasy Razzball.
July 20th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
@Grey: Ouch.
I’m -55 today! I have Matsui as well and until this week, Stubbs too. With the way a couple of my teams are going, you’d think I could assemble a team that’s supposed to suck…
@Steve: Yeah, my IP was getting out of control so I had to bench some pitchers. You have Hideki? That doesn’t sound like a good FR pickup.
July 20th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
@Grey: Yeah. He’s been usefully bad, mostly. Does have annoying streaks of goodness, though.
Even Trevor Crowe bit me yesterday.
@Steve: I’ve been carrying Keppinger, Cedeno and Stubbs the last week. Check their 7 day stats, hasn’t been pretty.
July 20th, 2010 at 6:59 pm
@Grey: Even though VMart is due back the Sox have nothing in the system for at least two years.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:00 pm
@Grey: No need. Stubbs has killed me. I’ve had Keppinger most of the season. I believe we’ve discussed him before. He’s one of those rare birds who’s useless in both Razzball and traditional forms of fantasy baseball.
@Steve: Cedeno’s hitting around .400 over the last week. The Pirates and the Astros have been hitting this last week. It’s been murder!
@BSA: Maybe in the offseason then, I don’t see them trading for a catcher now, if that’s what you meant.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Anyone catch Crawford take the pickoff to the fun factory?
@MarkM: Yeah, I winced.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
@Grey: I’m afraid he’s never going to get a lead big enough to steal another base for the rest of the year. I know if that was me, I sure as shit wouldn’t do anything to warrant a pickoff throw in my direction for the rest of the year.
@MarkM: Ha… Yeah, he got it pretty good.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
hell , at this rate , the freak might not last 5 innings .
in the words of chef ramsey ===> “get it together , man ” .
July 20th, 2010 at 7:31 pm
Granderson is USELESS.
Aaaarrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 20th, 2010 at 7:36 pm
I’m always so excited when I free up a roster spot by trading two players for one. Then I grab someone, they do well, and I don’t want to drop em. So now I find myself wondering, should I drop Jurrjens for Lilly (inexplicably dropped after K’ing 10 in his last start)?
July 20th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
@Steve: I swear the only thing keeping me from dropping him in a 10 teamer is that he seems like a really nice guy.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:39 pm
@royce!: That said, on a team of mine that is 4/33 today, it’s a little unfair to single him out.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
It’s not good when you’re relying on Cliff Pennington to salvage something from the day.
July 20th, 2010 at 7:43 pm
@Steve: But his OPS is in the top 10 from the last 30 days! You’re golden!
July 20th, 2010 at 7:44 pm
Dammit Slowey! Started off so well…why’d he get pulled though? didn’t even have 80 pitches. Let him get out of the jam…1 out away from a quality start

other than manny ,
the guy that i’d most like to see
wearing one of those “dum-dum” helmets (ala cervelli)
is freak .
feeling very fashion conscious , tonight .
lasorda influence ??
July 20th, 2010 at 7:49 pm
@BSA: Prince is going to the Yankees???
Those are great pics. I wonder if Rose would trade all that gold to get into the hall of fame. Dude’s blingy!
July 20th, 2010 at 7:54 pm
@royce!: I think Rose would trade Crawford’s good nut to get into the HoF
July 20th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
ARAMIS!!!
July 20th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
@fitz: Redonkulous.
July 20th, 2010 at 8:38 pm
I need a SS because I have Alcides Escobar.
I made an offer for Elvis Andrus of Sean Rodriguez and either Kuroda/Marcum/Niese/Volquez/Morrow. What do you think? Giving up too much considering Andrus hasn’t been stealing much lately.
July 20th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
@Frank Kim: I think it depends on what you need, but I’m inclined to say it’s fair, but giving up Volquez or Morrow might be too much.
July 20th, 2010 at 8:50 pm
@MarkM: You’re right Mark. Morrow is getting his next start skipped and he’s on innings limit plus he’s in the AL East. But he does have a ton of skill. And Volquez does look awesome.
I hate trading for need, always end up giving up too much. Maybe I’ll cancel all the deals.
July 20th, 2010 at 8:54 pm
guti gets the call
July 20th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
@big o: Anyone who’s ever owned him just nodded their head and said ‘yup’.
July 20th, 2010 at 8:58 pm
@Frank Kim: I like any of the other deals though. Especially moving Marcum. His numbers to this point look good/great, but he’s an injured. I’m a huge fan of trading away injured pitchers.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:00 pm
need 2b:
get :
thx=
mcghee or o hud off waive ?
or trade h bell for prado, im stacked @ closer
@royce!: I’d hold.
@Buddo Chezuski: No one trusts him, including the Twins?
@BSA: Impressive.
@Frank Kim: I’d want Andrus.
@dballz: McGehee
July 20th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
@Grey: You know as well as I that no good can come of this, but gotta pick up Guti, right?
July 20th, 2010 at 9:11 pm
@Grey: Thanks!
@Steve: Yeah, unfortunately.
@Frank Kim: No problem.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:17 pm
@Grey: U watchin the Dodgers-Giants game? Kershaw got tossed 4 plunking Rowand. I love when the teams throw at eachother intentionally. Made the game much more exciting!
July 20th, 2010 at 9:19 pm
Hey guys, who do you like better for the second half of the season? Phil Hughes or Jair Jurrjens?
July 20th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
@Grey:
In a regular roto league (such as the RCL), how many IP should I be ranging in order to not go over? It’s my first time playing roto and I honestly have no clue. I’m about middle of the pack with 843 IP.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:24 pm
@royce!: We jinxed him. I’m probably going to drop him, so you better go pick him up.
@Grey: Grabbed him for three of my four teams. Let the ‘fun’ begin.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:24 pm
@Steve:
i picture you hitting the button to pick up guti .
and then spinning 3 counter-clockwise revolutions in your swivel chair ,
just to break the spell .
or is that clock-wise ?
i never did get that hemisphere thing sorted out .
however , i WILL go to my grave believing that the hair on aussie women’s
legs grows UPwards ,
until proven differently .
July 20th, 2010 at 9:26 pm
@big o: It depends which way you’re looking at them
@ThE sHiT: I was watching the A’s, turned it on now.
@jpm: Jurrjens
@Eddy: Doesn’t it tell you how many innings you’re over the pace?
@Steve: Ha
July 20th, 2010 at 9:34 pm
@Grey:
Ahhh ok, I had never even bothered to explore ESPN that much. Jeez, I’m 17 GS over, with 64 GS left. Is that terrible or meh?
July 20th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
There are no words.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEep5BrexT0
July 20th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
@Steve: Ha! Turns out, I actually own him. But if you drop him it will provide some interesting data for me to crunch in my quest to determine which razzball commenter is the most cursed.
@Eddy: It’s not great. Get conservative!
@Steve: Speechless.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:51 pm
@Grey: The words ‘flying’ and ‘donkey’ were just made for each other.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
@Steve: My first reaction to that video was horror.
My second reaction was wondering how soon it will be before someone overdubs Eddie Murphy’s “Donkey” character over that video. I only saw the first of the Shrek movies, so I’m just assuming that there would be relevant quotes.
July 20th, 2010 at 9:53 pm
@royce!: The donkey in the video would be quite entitled to ask “are we there yet?”
July 20th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
@Steve: Nice! I literally LOL’d.
July 20th, 2010 at 11:16 pm
Grey: thank you thank you thank you for making me pick up Aramis for Glaus!
July 20th, 2010 at 11:59 pm
@Steve:
late getting back …. bummed about the kershaw/freak game
and celebrating another fine A ‘s victory ,
but , that is one hell of a video .
i para-sailed once , and , i , too brayed like a jackass .
wonder what the promo guys were trying to sell .
