In today’s installment of Fantasy Baseball, Fun With Numbers, we’re going to look at some players since July 1st and try to figure out if maybe the numbers tell a different story than their names tell. hoping victor regaines his stroke for boston
Neftali Feliz = seriously nasty.
@bobbo: Be fun to own him next year, for sure.
@Grey: ive got him in our keeper league,
I’d like to activate Feliz from my minors, drop Jim Johnson, Lidge, Blanton, or dlR? I’d prefer to drop an RP but can drop an SP.
ha josh hamilton has raised his ave. 40 points in just over a week,only 1 hr but a couple of steals,he`s smokin
@AL KOHOLIC:
And he was trying to convince us he had quit. Fraud.
@Grey @AL KOHOLIC: I have Feliz in my keeper too and I’m just praying he gets SP,RP status in Yahoo (we keep 3 SP and 2 RP)… yay loopholes!
@bobbo: yeah,im using him this year,he gives you a few good innings and great k`s per week,cant hurt
Zobrist seems to have caused some of his owners serious confusion… for example, his owner in my 20 team h2h had him on the bench, so I asked what he would want for him. His reply was Carlos Lee or “at least Markakis.” I said I couldn’t part with someone like that for Zobrist, and he should see why because he was the one benching him, and he replied, “I’m only benching him because he’s been slumping.” Uh, what? So apparently he was saying that Zobrist was on the bench because he was not playing well, but despite not playing well, he’s worth a top 10 or 20 OF. Because clearly Zobrist will return to his pre-ASB #s very soon, I guess.
Cust Kayin’
so after rayburn jacks one over the green monster , to make it 2-0 in the 7th vs buchholz ,
“eck” says … “i don’t want to say anything , because every time i do , somebody goes bridge” <== which is his term .
so now , we have an announcer , who thinks that his voodoo is so bad , that he doesn't want to say anything .
but , eck …… that's why we pay you to color comment on local games ,
you want we should send you over to the middle east as a peace negotiator ?
don't sit next to this man on an airplane !
Billingsley for Nelson Cruz? Any thoughts. i need power and speed but I’m afraid Cruz’s injury isn’t going to allow him to run when he returns.
@Sucklingduck: when is the key word here,im waiting,hell kinsler will be back friday
boy soto`s arm must still be hurting,big ryan howard just stole a base
@AL KOHOLIC: Its weird how Kinsler still leads the team in RBI’s……I’m waiting on him as well. I just figured i could trade my semi-injured pitcher for his semi-injured outfielder.
Verlander is throwing serious gas…….struck out Bay on two 100 mph fastballs in a row. Even if you don’t believe the gun, that’s simply ridunkulous in the 8th inning after throwing 120 or so pitches. Me thinks he has passed Grienke in the CY Young chase. Maybe Beckett has something to say about that as well.
Verlander = Nasty.
@AL KOHOLIC: as a patient josh hamilton owner, i am thrilled that he has finally joined the 2009 MLB season. now if he and rollins can just get BJ upton to join the party i might be able to make some noise yet. sure the HRs aren’t there, but he has 4 2Bs in the last 2 days, so at least he’s driving the ball. if he really turns it on in sept (quite possible) then he’ll win some fantasy championships with a .350-10-30-5 month.
@RIP Harry: Why do you want to activate him?
@royce!: Yeah, no one knows what to make of him.
@Sucklingduck: You can’t get someone like Victorino?
Trying to pull something off before a trade deadline. Any thoughts on dealing VMart for McCann? Or if Victor could be replaced by Soto, Doumit, or Ianetta for the rest of the season, would you deal him for Carlos Lee or The Spectacular Mini-Donkey? This is purely an anti-Red Sock biased dump (cause I think that Victor in the middle of that lineup is bound to be productive); & I am reluctant but willing to overlook his uniform if he’s going to outproduce any or all of those trade options. Thanks for the recommendations.
@Grey: Pls rank Ian stewart, Chris Coghlan, or Mark Ellis? Im currently starting Stewart, numbers arent too bad, just limited at-bats compared to the others concerns me
Thanks
Hey this is a possibly stupid question, but what is the best way to know what the lineups are going to be on gameday? I usually try to just check ESPN scoreboard close to gametime, but I usually forget. Is there a better way to get that info? Pisses me off when, for example on Wednesday I sonovabenched a Huff homerun and BJ Upton took the night off in my UTIL slot.. thanks
@zombie: I’d trade him for Reynolds or Lee (in that order) and then pick up Doumit.
@matthole: Stewart, Coghlan…
@anon: I just check right before game time.
Bye bye robot jones…
How much value do you have for jeff nieman? His schedule gets really tough in the AL EAST. Im trying to trade Capps and Buckholtz for DLR but if the owner of DLR says no should i offer any combination of capps, buckholtz, nieman, and g.jones. The players he doesnt want I should just drop right?
Im in a 12 team competitive league.
@GTS: Yup Top 8, O-fer 3, all by strikeout. Farewell brave pirate.
@ Grey: Thanks..I’ll try.
I need some K’s – start Gaudin @ SEA this weekend? Other options: Laffey, Porcello, C. Richard…
@Grey: I was looking to activate him because ERA, WHIP, and Ks are tight and not really moving in saves. Also activating him has no impact on his keeper status. Do you think his value for helping those categories is so minimal its not worth dropping someone for him?
@Martin: I wouldn’t own Niemann. Trade all of them for him.
@GTS: Ah, hardly knew ye, Robot Jones.
@GTS: Gaudin
@RIP Harry: Why do you want to activate him? I quess he is in love with middle relief pitchers that don’t get you wins save holds and as good as Felix looks – as a rookie he is always one game away from a diaster – so not that much pay off here unless you want to impress your mom
@RIP Harry: I wouldn’t drop any of those guys.
I think grey went over this that the few innings that felix throws he won’t have that much impact on the era or whip and I am sure the starter he does drop can strick out a few – rookie middle relief pitcher will soon or later get lit up
I was looking to activate him for help in ERA, WHIP, and Ks which are all tight. I probably wont be moving in saves so losing Lidge or J. Johnson isnt big. Activating Feliz does nothing to his keeper status. Are the gains from Feliz in those categories too minimal too drop a guy like Lidge or Johnson for?
I’m starting Blanton @ ATL, Baker vs CLE, Harang vs WAS, Shields vs TOR, and Anderson vs CHW tomorrow. It could go really well or really badly for me… I dunno. Advice?
@Grey: @mrbaseball: Thanks for your input, youre probably right, not worth it
“Harry, keep the change.”
Well another man might have been angry,
And another man might have been hurt,
But another man never would have let those pitchers go…
I stashed Felix away at the moment.
And wait walked away in silence,
It’s strange, how you never know,
Drafting Felix, and getting stoned,
I go flying so high, when I’m stoned.
@GTS: I’d start them all and hope for three solid starts, one mediocre one and one bad one.
nieman or g.jones if you have no emphasis on hitting or pitching?
@Martin: Carlos Gonzalez? Jones.
@grey- i meant that I can get DLR for capps, buckholtz, and either nieman or G.Jones. My league isnt hitting or pitching heavy but i guess you can say picking up a hot hitter is easier then picking up a hot pitcher.
so should i give away g. jones or nieman?
Capps is terrible this year. I’m glad I dropped him for Jim Johnson before today’s stats.
Robot with 4 K’s today – droppable immediately.
@GTS: Good to know! I was waiting just like you guys, and I’ll probably hit up CarGon now too. It’s been fun, mr roboto!
Matt Crapps strikes again. He pretty much destroyed everything I got from Verlander today. Why the hell was he out there anyways???
@Grey: @mrbaseball: @mrbaseball: thanks for the input, I guess ill sit tight
Assuming I don’t have to drop any of them, who would you start for the next week or so at MI, Prado, Furcal or Escobar?
g. jones 4 for 4 today,4 ab`s 4 strikeouts,im still riding him but he`s starting to smell like glue
Yahoo’s exploding post-it note says Aramis is back tomorrow. Does anyone have any more credible information?
@AL KOHOLIC: Yeah – and you’re trying to get rid of him
I’m in a keeper league and can retain up to 14
2b/ss is my weak spot, it features Asdrubal, Felipe Lopez and Ian Stewart, and have just recieved an offer of Jose Lopez and Alcides Escobar for my Adam Wainwright.
I have a good pitching staff #1 in ERA & Whip, 3rd in K’s and wins, and although this looks like I should reject I’d really like an opinion or two ……just how high is Escobar projected???
@Martin: Give away both if you need to. Niemann first.
@knighttown: Prado
@Steve: He is due back tomorrow.
@d2bnz: I wouldn’t make that deal.
@Steve: isnt that what experienced fbb guys should do with hot young unproven players?hehe,im surprised you havnt tried to trade me an overpriced guy for feliz or other young keepers for next year,im still needing some pitching.
Jurrjens and Ubaldo for Wainright?
I drop Hardy
@The Dude: You should drop Hardy anyway. That trade’s fair if you need pitching depth.
This is so tasty,I had to share
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/blue_jays_gm_confirms_there_never
@Doug Ault: Ha! Soak up this one:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/joe_posnanski/08/12/worst.contracts/index.html?eref=T1
@Grey: I can’t believe Juan Pierre didn’t make his list
@Doug Ault: in pierres defense,they knew what he would do when they signed him and he did it well,till they decided to bench him,furcals the guy im tired of,just dropped him,a 260 hitting ss that cant steal a base or drive in a run
0-16 in the RCL so far today.
Sweet.
@Grey: I’m curious about how Ricciardi’s *own* contract is structured. My suspicion is that he gets a commission that’s something like = 0.07 * (total years signed * total value of contracts/total players signed).
@AL KOHOLIC: Agreed, Furcal’s a pissah.
Everth Cabrera or Alcides Escobar for a replacement?
@Steve: every day i start out like 4-10 1 hr 3 rbi,then check later and see a 7-35 1 hr 5 rbi night
@Doug Ault: Yeah, kinda agree with AL.
@peter: EverCab
@AL KOHOLIC: 1-20.
@Steve: Should have picked up Gomes, obviously.
It was all about J. Gomes
Steve: Should have picked up Gomes, obviously. – might still one homerun left in him for tommorrow
“go , johnny go , gomes”
“go , johnny go , gomes”
“go , johnny go . gomes”
“johnny be good”
with apologies to chuck berry .
thank-you thursday .
so many empty spots on my roster ,
the decision was made for me .
Jurrjens or Ubaldo in ERA WHIP for rest of the year. They seem a bit close right now.
Beltre has a bloody ball. Cust kayin’. Oooofah.
@Grey: Zito, Masterson or Hammel tomorrow?
@Steve: yeah i know,i kinda like masterson so that means wrong guy
@Dumbmutt: Ubaldo
@zombie: Ha!
@Steve: None?
@Grey: A not-unexpected response. Just checking if I was missing. something.
1-23 on the day now. On a short-schedule day, that takes some doing.
@Grey: Should I still be waving my (ahem) Wiggy, or is it time for some Ryan Roberts?
August’s not over yet, I guess.
@Steve: And Jonathan Sanchez should be owned, right?
@Steve: 1/23 now and CLee saved you from an 0fer.
@AL KOHOLIC: Well today is such a thin day I am batting 6/11 with Tex waiting to go tonight. Hopefully the night off last night helped power him up but not enough to carry the Yankees to victory.
@Steve: i feel your pain on th 1-23,im 5-24,with the lone howard donk
Would you guys/girl start Zito @NYM tomorrow? Zito’s been very un-Zito-like in the last month (not >2 ER in any start, good K rate, won 3 of last 5). My hesitation: the Mets hit lefties much better than they do righties (OPS .776 vs .719).
@Steve: Wiggy’s boring me, but Roberts? eh. Sanchez should be owned.
@peter: I wouldn’t.
@Grey: Fox? Gonna lose playing time, isn’t he?
Tell Rudy when he wakes up from his coma to update the Fantasy Razzball standings.
Pretty please.
@Freak: rudy is in quadanala with a 200 pound fisherwoman
My team is in desperate need of steals. H2H 12-team league, and I have lots of power in Dunn, Bay, M Young, Youks, Mauer(!!), and Cruz.
What do you think about trading Cruz for a guy like Nyjer Morgan in this situation? Or would I be better off keeping Cruz and just picking up and playing guys like Fowler or Escobar.
Everth Cabrera also available in my league.
@Steve: Yeah
@Freak: He returns from Prague this weekend or some shizz. I’ll ask him.
@Nathan: Trade Cruz for him.
@Nathan: Grab Everth too.
Everth over Dexter? Dexter has more steals and a better OBP, and doesn’t bat 9th.
@Nathan: Everth has more steals in a shorter time frame, it’s your call.
I’ve got to argue on the feliz benching. I am in a h2h league and dropped jim johnson last week to add feliz. IP is also a category in this league. Feliz will provide better stats in IP, K, ERA and WHIP. Johnson gets the edge on saves, but how many saves are we talking about, 1, maybe 2 saves in a good week. Its a no brainer for me when the drop is johnson. I’d tell you to activate him.
