At least that’s the creed that Francona and Epstein keep repeating to themselves as they sit in the fetal position on opposite corners of the clubhouse shower. Carl Crawford seems like a nice guy. Something about the name Carl. So innocuous. “Hey, sis, what’s your new boyfriend’s name? Carl? I’m gonna like him on Facebook.” That’s you jibber-jabbering with your family. Because Carl seems like a nice guy could be partially why it’s so sad to see him struggle this much. Doode better not stand too close to the Pesky pole in a lightning storm cause he will get struck. That’s been his luck so far. Franconian measures were taken to get Crawford going by openly mocking him with a lineup switch. That never helps. It’s like when you’re a teenager and your Mom makes an appointment for you to see a dermatologist. Suddenly, you realize you’re not hiding your acne as good as you thought you were. Crawford is really doing nothing wrong other than getting extremely unlucky. That luck will turn around and he’ll suddenly look like the 2nd round pick he was in the preseason. To misquote a cliche, get in now while the gettin’s not good. Anyway, here’s some more players to buy or sell this week in fantasy baseball:
BUY
Justin Smoak – I just went over my Smoak fantasy. I wrote it riding on the back of a bicycle through downtown Milwaukee while Shirley steered.
Brett Wallace – Sure, his ESPN Player Card looks like he had some bad work done by Dr. 90210 (you storing acorns in those cheeks, Brett? Brett looks like he says, “Franks and beans! Franks and beans!”), but he’s hitting at a near-.600 clip over the last week.
Brandon Wood – He’s one of the top prospects in the game! Low voice: From 6 years ago.
David Cooper – With the demotion of Snider (don’t write), Cooper will fill-in as the Jays DH. For the Triple-A Vegas Fake Boobs, Cooper slashed .395/.438/.617. His BABIP was silly ridiculous, so the average there isn’t happening but his power is decent. When you put ‘decent power’ into Google translator, it spits back ‘Above James Loney but below Justin Smoak. Say Ike Davis. No, you don’t have to literally say it.’ Geez, Google translator sounds a bit testy. In AL-Only leagues, he’s a must own — obviously. I’d take a flyer on him in deeperish mixed leagues, depending on how bad you muffed your corner infidel slot.
Sergio Santos – This is probably still Mergio Salthorntos’ job, but Serge is a nose ahead.
Eduardo Sanchez – Similar shituation to the White Sox. It’s not clearly Eduardo’s job. Imagine, if you will, you’re traveling through another dimension — a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land where Ozzie and La Russa make every decision for you. You order a burger then a steak then a piece of chicken. You get your car washed, decide halfway through that you need a shower and hop out of your car. You go to the movies and leave halfway through the opening credits. That’s a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Twilight Zone!
Vicente Padilla – I’d go with Kuo first. Speaking of which…
Hong-Chih Kuo – Hello, I wish to welcome everyone who was sent here from the ellipsis in Padilla’s blurb. Make yourself comfortable. Can I offer you some tea?
Darren Oliver – He sounds like a sitcom character. Not a funny one. The straight man. Not that there’s anything wrong with being straight. Feliz is a lock to be saving games in a week (please, God, let that be true), but I’d own Oliver in the mean’s while.
Wilson Ramos – Grey’s Prediction That Doesn’t Matter At All Of The Day: Ramos is going to be on and off waivers all year then will be drafted next year around 140 overall as he appears on sleeper lists all across the interwebs.
Mike Aviles – Not a huge fan, but he’s on his way to 15/15 season and his average should come up.
Jeff Baker – Baker has been so hot. Like an oven.
Darwin Barney – The Purple Evolutionist, as someone coined him in the comments the other day, is hitting over his head, but that doesn’t mean you can’t ride the hot schmotato.
Clint Barmes – He’s still available in my NL-Only league and I’m not exactly rushing to pick him up. Never the hoo! If you’re rocking someone two eggs short of an omelet, I’d stash Barmes.
Domonic Brown – Pick him up now, DL him for a few weeks, then trade him a day before he returns. Or ride the Brown lightning. Hmm, that sounds kinda weird.
Randy Wolf – Could someone please make a t-shirt with three pictures of Wolf howling at the moon? That is all.
Scott Baker – Rudy likes Scott Baker. This was brought to you by the Committee of Grey Endorsing Baker Without Really Endorsing Him.
Alex White – Just went over Alex White this morning. Scroll on, scroller!
Brandon Beachy – Me telling you to grab Beachy seems so three Buy/Sell’s ago, but he’s still only owned in 23% of ESPN leagues. The same Beachy that has 31 Ks in 29 1/3 IP, a 31:9 K:BB and a 1.09 WHIP.
SELL
Gordon Beckham – Hitting under .200 with 2 homers and 1 steal. At this point, I’d prefer to own Gordon Shumway. I think it’s fair to say we can move on from this schmohawk.
Aubrey Huff – Depends on the league whether you’re dropping him or trading him (as with most of these guys), but I warned you in the preseason of Huff’s Saberhagenish on/off years. In fact, I’ll quote it for you cause that’s how I roll, “A big flashing red arrow is pointing at his alternate seasons of 15 home runs a piece in 2007 and 2009. If you get an off season from Huff, you’ve just lost your league. That’s just me being real wit’ you. You see the truth is everybody wanna know how close me and Huff is. Or who I’m still cool wit’.” And that’s me quoting me and paraphrasing Dr. Dre! Can we get Detox already? I need a doctor.
Bobby Abreu – Getting some spring cleaning done here. I think Abreu’s done cause he looks cooked.
Wade Davis – I’m not telling you to drop him, but I’m wondering in the dark recesses of my medulla oblongata if you can sell Davis for more ducats than he’s worth. Obviously, I’m talking deep leagues here since he’s not even owned in all leagues. He is pitching far above his head ratio-wise. His K-rate is atrocious (4+) and he’s getting lucky with balls hit into play. In AL-Only leagues, I wouldn’t sell him for a white chocolate dipped fortune cookie, but I’d explore offers.

I win.
would you trade longoria for d wright straight up? 10 team mixed league head to head:
C – Soto
1B – Youk
2B – Kinsler
3B – Gordon
SS – Andrus
OF – Braun
OF – Bautista
OF – Bruce
Util – Ellsbury
DL – Longoria
Gaby Sanchez or Smoak?
i ended up with boggs,hold him for a while ?
I have Abreu and Mark Reynolds on my bench, because I was expecting bounceback years from both.
Is it too early to be cutting bait on either of them for some hot bat of the week, like a Smoak Monster of Purple Evolutionist?
A) Aviles, B) Herrera, C) Espinosa, or the ever popular D) It doesn’t really matter, they’re all kinda schmoey?
I feel like I keep rotating these 3 ‘hawks and am wondering if one is a set it and forget it option above the others. thanks!
@anon:
The Purple Evolutionist is an option as well, thanks
@Grey:
The guy with Crawford in my league is in desperate need of a MI, all three of his spots (2B, SS, MI) suck. I have Kinsler, Drew and Walker.
My outfield is Kemp, McCutchen, Pence, Victorino, Vlad at UTIL
What do you think is fair?
My first thought would be Crawford for Drew and Victorino
I would also sell/and or dump the following players in a 12 team mixer:
Dumpster
Liriano–I wanted to believe you jackwagon!
Magglio
Alvarez
Rios (trade?)
Wells
Sometimes it hurts, but cutting bait and fishing in the WW pool has its benefits.
@anon: i was hoping herrera would take off and be my guy but he is slumping a bit so i went with a recently dropped aviles who in 300-400-abs last year was very servicable,espinosa will be a 20+hr 20 steal guy this year or next im thinking
@JP: I’d want Wright.
@Joe: Smoak
@AL KOHOLIC: Hold
@Hardcore Midget: I’d lose Abreu for Smoak.
@anon: C
@MattW: That deal sounds fair. Walker and Victorino would work too.
just wanted to share that, in one of my leagues, i flipped berkman for crawford, straight up.
hell, to the motherf*cking, yeah!
@Grey: Gotta drop Snider, so who do i pick up? Wallace, Bourjos, Ludwick, Aviles and Moreland are all available. This is for my UTIL spot, just need the best guy. Thanks! Btw, that Dempster blurb in your last post was effin hilarious! Top 5 all time…
@Dr. Stats: what about pena?
@Grey
Who is your leader for the Schmoiest of the Schmos this year?
Ha. Nice Wallace pic. “Have you seen my batheball?”
mmmmm white chocolate dipped fortune cookie, I would take that trade!
id love to add white but i have no room,id be dropping ogando or beachy in my 2 leagues,or drop boggs to add him or bastardo
In a vacuum, which side on this deal:
Dunn, Tabata, Melky for Pence, Lind and Francoeur ??
@ AL KOHOLIC:
Pena is a goner too…I’m sure we could brain storm 7-10 other players that I could kick to the curb.
@ Denys:
Yes, I’m jealous…but what kind of rookie chumps you playing with bro?
I believe he would be a Purple Naturalist…just saying
Grey, do you prefer Wolf or Colby Lewis. Neither are currently available, but I need to make contingency plans for Dempster. Thanks again, you’re input is much appreciated.
My pitching staff is longer in problems than the unbroken chain in sorority sex kittens 2. What to do?
Dempster, E Jackson, Gallardo and Liriano are currently steaming up my windshield and have me dead last in ERA and WHIP. I feel like Christine but I will get my revenge.
The Wolf is Leake(ing) on my Colon are all available.
Is there a move to be made?(other than protecting the Colon) I think 3 of those guys deserve another run through the rotation but do I dump E JAX for one of the other 3?
-YHL
@Jason:
Pence/Lind side. I imagine both Frenchy and Melky would be dropped eventually—trash swap!!
My pitching staff: Oswalt, Yovani, Lilly, E-Jax, Edison and Beachy. Overall, it ain’t pretty. I was offered Dan Haren for Jose Bautista… would you pull the trigger?
still sticking with the projections given for Moustakos?
Start Zambrano at Arizona today?
Glad to see Barney’s nickname taking hold. My current rotation, post a refreshing Liriano & Dempster flush, is Gallardo, Marcum, Morrow, Gio, and Bills. I have one empty spot and an open spot for streamers.
Answer as yourself or as Committee for Endorsing Baker yadda3, but which of the following would be best, with HUGE need for ERA & WHIP? Beachy, Wood, Jurrjens, Kennedy, Baker, Anibal, Zambrano, EJax, Stauffer, Latos? Thanks!
@Denys: Nice!
@tHe sHiT: Bourjos
@El Famous Burrito: Take your pick from Edwin, Liriano and Gallardo…
@Wake Up: Ha!
@Asdrubal Bastardo: See, you’re trading on an empty stomach.
@AL KOHOLIC: Bastardo
@Jason: Dunn, it’s fair though.
@Wake Up: Ha!
@Eng: Lewis
@potus: Lose Dempster for Wolf.
@Bi-Winning: Eh
@Ffej: Has he been called up?
@Nuke LaDouche: If you own him…
@bogbert….Latos, Latos, Latos. I don’t own him and he’s a tool, but he’s easily the most talented of that group.
@Bi-winning
Depends how bad, and how good your pitching/hitting projects out going forward.
Remember, Haren tends to have mediocore second halves. I personally believe in Bautista to hit 40 bombs…so I wouln’t do the swap.
Trade a lesser OF/INF for an undervalued pitcher like: Garza, Hudson, shields ect…
Not to be that guy… but I think you mean ‘ducats’ not ‘duckets’
To all the loyal Razzers:
Just curious on a few over/unders:
Bautista: ov/un 38 bombs
Fuld: ov/un 32 SBs
Weaver: ov/un 20 W
Crawford: ov/un 100 runs
I love the over/under game…
He’s got friends in Lowe places…
http://www.ajc.com/news/braves-pitcher-derek-lowe-929396.html
Brown Lightning sounds like one of those Wally World brand sodas.
Or, you could roll with this..
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Brown%20Lightning
@Big Jgke: See, I was using the hip-hop slang spelling. No, you’re right.
@Dr. Stats: Under, Under, Under, Over…
@Jake in Columbus: Nice!
@Eng: Thanks Eng. Maybe I shouldn’t have included him; someone just dropped him, and I’m 9th out of 10 on the WW priority list. So he’s not a given. How about next in line, if I don’t get him?
I can’t keep up with the nicknames. Who is the Purple Evolutionist?
Also would you trade Corey Hart for Lind or Butler?
Hey Grey,
Just made a trade, which side do you like better:
A: Greinke and Gardner
B: Hamilton and R. Soriano (we count holds)
Note: the team getting Greinke/losing Hamilton already has an OF including Braun, Stanton, Krispie, and Bourn, and a pitching staff including E-Jax, Dempster, and Liriano.
@Grey:
and for all of you commenters who haven’t been watching the games :
crawford has not just been unlucky .
he is completely lost at the plate .
francona knows that the guy should be benched , until he gets his
head screwed on straight , but crawford’s been working hard EVERY
day in the batting cage , just to try and figure things out .
so , as a reward (and so as not to facilitate a trip to belleview) ,
francona has buried him 8th in the batting order … just ahead of
varitek .
buy him now , if you wish ,
but there’s no sign that he’s going to figure it out anytime soon .
at best , i bury him on my bench for a month , or so .
@KarlJ.: Read the post. Sure…
@TheRealTaz: A
@Grey:
Doh! Thanks
@Chata:
you would pay what, .75–.80 cents on the dollar or less to aquire Carl Crawlingforward?
Sorry Grey, without all the fluff of my initial request, which of the following would be best (in addition Latos if I can get him), with big-time need for ERA & WHIP?
Beachy, Wood, Jurrjens, Kennedy, Baker, Anibal, Zambrano, EJax, Stauffer?
@Denys – Wow! I thought I had it nice flipping Weaver for Ubaldo and Crawford
FYI:
Crawford is out of the line-up today due to blowing goats dicks.
Who would you cut loose. What order would you cut these guys in…i have players coming off the DL
Raburn, Chris Narveson, Jonathan Herrera, Carlos Gomez
eh,went on and dropped boggs for white,im sitting with marmol,rodriquez,kimbel,frank and kuo,if that dont getter done then puey,
Sorry for back to back questions.
Would you drop Wilson Betemit for Brandon Wood
@Grey:
Really like the Crawford for Berkman trade? I just made the offer to the Crawford owner in my league. Any exchanges to other target?
In 10 team H2H 5X5 +OBP, TB and H, whos the best U?
Sands (currently hold), Damon, Hannahan, Hundley, Barney
My overall numbers are pretty good, without any glaring needs in any one category, so I’m looking for the best overall contributor.
Would you prefer any of Coghlan, Crisp, Boesch, David Murphy, Maybin Fowler or Francisco over Abreu in a 10 team dynasty? The rest of my OF is Kemp, CarGo, Tabata and Hart.
@Dr. Stats:
not sure how to answer that question .
in my auction league :
hanley … $42
pujols
cabrera … both went for $41
crawford …. $39
braun
votto …. both $34
a-rod … $33
longoria
wright … both $31
holliday
fielder … both $28
zimmerman … $27
kemp … $26
so , @ 75-80 cents on the dollar … would i trade anyone in the
longoria /thru/kemp range ??
absolutely not .
@Anonymous: im a crisp fan here,but you loose rbi,s and gain sb,s,hr could be pretty close,slight edge to abreau
@Dr. Stats: 75
@bogbert: Kennedy
@Dr. Stats: Ha
@aj: Gomez
@aj: Yup
@Buge Hoobs: Sure… Hold Sands.
@Anonymous: Coghlan for now.
Liriano update
http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/28926021
Prolly not news to most.
@Grey: What do you think about Alexei Ramirez? I’m thinking about trading for Garza and the guy has Beckham and Alexei, both of whom are sucking. If I were to upgrade his MI, and took one of these two, I think I’d want Alexei, but trying to figure out what I’ll get out of him.
i think the problem francona and the sawx have with crawford
is one of chemistry .
not club-house chemistry , ‘cuz by all accounts he’s pretty much aces ,
but , line-up chemistry .
let’s say that , out of the 8-hole , and with ellsbury leading off ,
crawford starts hitting .333 and the sawx string together a few wins .
what does francona do with crawford ?
move him up to 6th ? …. 3rd ?? … lead-off ???
what would be his reasoning behind that , if the sawx are rolling ?
in short , for sure we can expect a rebound from crawford , eventually .
but don’t look for historical counting stats .
not from his spot in the batting order .
@T-BZA: So aggravating about Liriano. He historically sucks in April, and is much better during the summer. Check out his stats. They gotta be patient!
@T-BZA: interesting that he’s blaming it on the cold. don’t think its fair that they pitch him @CHW as his final test…
I hate how long it takes Yahoo to add players. No Cooper or White yet.
@TheRealTaz: Agreed. Just disgraceful list him and bring him back late-May.
@Chata:
You took me too literally. .75 on the dollar refers to offering someone 3/4 of the original (pre-season) value of Crawford in a trade. Nothing really to do with auctions, more of a fraction thing to determine value while proposing a trade in any format. For example, At .75 of Crawford I may offer Stubbs or Stanton for him.
BTW—-Nice value with Fielder and Kemp in your auction league.
@T-BZA: Yup
@MattW: I’d want Garza.
@black love: Yeah
@chata: If he starts hitting as he should, he’s not staying in the 8 hole.
@Chata:
There is no way Crawford stays in the 8th hole—no bloody way—million$ of reasons why.
Here is the line-up that I like when I play fake G.M.:
Ellsbury
Crawford
Pedroia
A-Gon
Youk
Ortiz
Lowrie
Drew
Salty (future replacement)
Man, I think I may be as big of a geek as my wife thinks, as I type this while my 7th graders read A Wrinkle in Time in front of me.
Just traded Curtis Granderson and Howie Kendrick for Carl Crawford and Willie Bloomquist in a keeper league.
Kershaw for Oswalt plus J. Sanchez: which side are you taking?
@Grey: Which side:
Drew and J. Zimmerman
or
Alexei and Garza
Which side:
Matt Cain and Carl Crawford
or
Hunter Pence and Gio Gonzalez
Bedard or Edwin Jackson? Both blah at the moment, but going forward? I rostered both at one point, but dropped bedard..
@Grey:
Kevin Slowey
???
grey, saw you said in response to post #2 for one owner that youd like wright over longo…
is that true in a keeper too? or just in a 1 year?
thanks.
@HighUpside: Nice
@Timequake: Kershaw
@MattW: Garza
@Steve B: Cain
@agarthered: Jackson for another start, then bail.
@the grate one: Not in a keeper.
@Grey (and everyone else)
Jordan Zimmermann was dropped – who should I drop from him? Candidates are Anibal Sanchez, Scott Baker, and Mad-Bum.
I am very strong in K’s, middle of the pack in ERA/WHIP, and AWFUL in wins at the moment.
Obviously, Zimm won’t help much with wins, but I feel like he is still a must add. Thoughts???
@grey: What has Brandon Wood shown you recently to change your mind? He’s still hitting .182 in Pitt.
@ Grey: Why do you continue to hate on Ike Davis? To say he has only average power is ridiculous and proves to me you have never really seen him play. His isolated power numbers are up and last season his HRs averaged the longest per distance of anyone in the MLB. Jose Bautista was next and Davis’s HR went 9 feet longer on average then Bautista. Ike makes Citi field look tiny on accasions and owns the longest HR I have seen hit there. Putting him in your hate column last week and subtly dissing him here is not a good look. Wake up Grey.
@Dr. Stats:
no way pedroia is leaving the 2-hole .
the kid’s going to be annointed captain , just as soon as the sawx
fix their catching problem .
so , assuming carl gets his act together , flip the 2 and 3 spots and i think you’ve got it right .
of course , they lose big poopi for a decent right-handed bat , this off-season …. if they can find one .
also ,
if i have both crawford and stubbs on my team ,
i’m sitting crawford , until things change .
and , i’m certainly not going to let him ruin my chances , this year ,
for another 100 AB’s
I’ve been offered his Wright/Swisher/Colby Lewis for my Aramis/Hafner/Lester? Thinkin about taking it? Which side you like?
@Grey: Do you drop E-Jax if Morton, Narveson and Travis Wood are available?
@Grey: Please rank Kendrick, A. Cabrera and Barney for the rest of the year.
@The Situation: Hold for right now.
@GMen: Nothing, but in NL-Only leagues any ABs are worthwhile.
@Rob Rock: When he hits more than 25 homers, I’ll acquiesce.
@Sos: Depends on the rest of your pitching, it’s fair.
@Steve: Wood
@Fletch: Asdrubal
markakis and Walden or Crawford?
can’t believe there was no Eastbound and Down reference with Eduardo Sanchez… Get on it bro
Re: #77. If I switch out lewis with clay buchholz does that change which side wins?
@Donnie Baseball: Crawford
@Paul: Never seen it.
@Sos: I’d want Wright.
How do you feel about Jeremy Guthrie? I know he’s pitching well over his head and he’s a known commodity at this point, but he really does look good and I always thought there was potential there. Between Guthrie and Wade Davis, who would you advocate picking up from wavers? Are either worth dropping Rauch’s Neck Tattoo for?
No one seems to be talking about him, but what do people think of Hanley? I guess he would be a good buy low, but I really don’t see him being that impressive this year. He has already had a bad month and with his terrible attitude he will probably have stretches of crap along the way. Plus he has been hitting fewer homers year after year. I guess I’m wondering what others think.
@Tony Tone: I’d hold Rauch for now.
Moustakas hasn’t been called up, but he’s stinking it up in the minors. Razz projections seem a bit too favorable no?
Gio/Halladay for Choo/Elvis/Hudson, who wins?
@Grey: Under 38 homers for Bautista? Does that mean offering Youk for him straight up isn’t an insult?
Choose 3 of the following: Volquez, Edwin Jackson, Lohse, Beachy, De La Rosa, Jurrjens, Masterson.
Sorry, thats Daniel Hudson in that trade.
@Grey: Victorino for Garza, which side?
Grey – I have this strange feeling that if you merely mention the word Tabata, Jose will end his slump and start a fire storm again at the plate! Please help!
@Ffej: He has one more month to do something.
@Tony Tone: Hudson side.
@Ffej: Far from at this point.
@That guy: Beachy, dlR and Jackson…
@MattW: Victorino, it’s fair.
@Craigo: Tabata
Which side wins: Crawford for Pence/Axford
Thanks to reading your site I got the big puma everywhere!-thanks. What do you think about Puma for Bret Anderson?
Torii Hunter/Elvis/Choo for Holliday/Cain?
From azcentral
Major-league radar gun readings susceptible to hijinks
“We used to dial it down,” said a smiling Diamondbacks General Manager Kevin Towers, formerly the Padres’ GM.
“I know for a fact that every time Brad Penny pitched for the Dodgers in San Diego it was probably the lowest velocities he ever had. He liked velocity. He’d stare at the board. He was throwing 95-96 (mph), but we’d have it at 91 and he’d get pissed off and throw harder and harder and start elevating.”
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/articles/2011/04/28/20110428baseball-radar-gun-hijinks.html
@Up in this Mug: Crawford
@Travis: It’s fair.
@Tony Tone: Holliday
I could also switch out Torii for Delmon Young if that would be the better dead weight to drop
grey: 10×10 h2h league, my offense is putrid, average is down the shitta, nothings going well, and it’s killing me in the standings, we play a straight line up, normal infield, 3 OF’s but we have 3 UTL slots…. so alot of flexibility. Now I love me some Ryan Howard, but if I could deal My RYAN HOWARD for a guys CHOO & PABLO SANDOVAL would you do it?
It would give me two guys that will probably hit .300, Pablo could fill my 1B slot, i have wright at 3B, and our league counts K’s, walks, etc within that 10×10…. I dont know. Ihate giving up Howard, but I’m thinking about it to get some depth….
I’m slotting guys like trumbo, ayabar, freeman, sands, and other hot schomatoes into my positions. I’m averaging under a .250 avg so far after 3 weeks…. NOT GOOD when you’re counting individual hits, singles, doubles, HR’s, triples, ETC!
@Grey:
What do you think of this trade?
Get: Miggy/Kendrick/F-Her
Give: A-Gon/Kinsler/Chacin/Kimbrel
My hitting is pretty strong but I’m dead last in ERA/WHIP (Yovani, Scherz, D-Hud, Lilly…)
@Tony Tone: That works.
@Tony: Sounds okay in your league.
@Scott: Miggy side.
@Tony: Average is god damn infuriating. I am somehow third to last in average while being #1 or #2 in every other category and its fucking up my team. I traded for Mauer and Pence to try to help this, but it looks like helps gonna take a while from Mauer. Every 0/5 I see makes me sick.
Han-Ram/A Gordon or Crawford/J-Roll?
@Grey: My rotation is Gallardo, Oswalt, de la Rosa, Volquez and Edwin Jackson. I’m getting tied to the WHIPing post night after night. Time to start making changes or wait it out? Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Carl Crawford, Joel Hanrahan and Edinson Volquez for Felix Hernandez Jason Heyward.
Who wins?
@Grey: respectfully suggest that it’s a little early to cut Abreu loose. Checking my calender…yep, still April. He’s walked 22 times, has a .402 OBP and while that does not yield much fantasy-wise, it keeps him in the line up. You know Scioscia is going to be loyal to him and he’s just a year removed from a 20/24 season. I think unless you’ve got a really good waiver option patience might be a virtue. I saw him play in the A’s series. Swing looks not that different than what I’m used to seeing. Hey, he’s an old man like me; our bones get cold and we need naps in the spring. Give him a chance to at least stick around until the sun starts to shine.
@chata: i agree with you that crawford’s problem isn’t bad luck. he hasn’t been hitting line drives right at people or anything like that. he looks terrible. swinging at balls, taking strikes, terrible desperate-looking punch-bunt attempts in 0-1 counts. weak contact, not driving anything. he’s had a few better hits in the last week or so. the double yesterday was a legit low line drive.
but i disagree with your future predictions. (a) you can never tell when a guy will shake off something like this. when it happens it tends to happen quickly. could be tomorrow. it won’t take a month. unless it does. and (b) like grey and everyone else said, there’s no way he stays in the 8 hole all year once he’s hitting. no way.
Someone dropped Liriano in my 12-team H2H league.. add him for McClellan, DLR, Madsen, or Nathan (I have Nunez & Walden and doing well in saves)
@Blake: Crawford
@Eric H.: Don’t know your options.
@Derrick: F-Her
@OaktownSteve: If last year’s .250 season didn’t happen, I’d be more apt to agree. I’m thinking last year was the beginning of the end and this year is another step backward.
@EK: Nathan
@Grey:
so , i’m somewhat pleased that i pulled off the
a-gon/liriano/marcun deal for butler/c.c./verlander
gonna miss a-gon , but really needed the up-grade in pitching .
but , now i have a question :
in another league …
keeper league …. i’m playing for 2013
the team i inherited scored 20 roto points last year (12 team 5×5)
to give you some idea , everyone kept 9 players .
my 4th keeper was soto , and i’ve already cut my 5th and 6th keepers
(ianetta and d.lee) .
i was fortunate enough to draft jay bruce , freeman , and strasburg ,
going for the proverbial youth movement … and trout , jennings , etc.
so here’s the deal :
the guy wants my bruce , scherzer (#3 keeper), and lohse (waiver pick-up)
for his : kemp , vernon and thornton .
i told him to drop vernon , and countered with
my scherzer , lohse , and byrd (also from waivers)
for his kemp/thornton .
jump at either deal ? or hold out for my proposal ??
obviously , kemp fits into my scheme of things , but i’d rather not
lose bruce in the process .
thanking you , in advance .
Sorry Grey, one more question.
I’m rocking a pretty ugly pitching staff right now,
Verlander
D.Hudson
Hellickson
Colby Lewis (yuck at the moment)
Edwin (yuck at the moment)
Baker
Cueto (on dl)
(can you tell pitching went really early in my league?)
what are your thoughts on Wolf? I’ve never trusted him, but his numbers so far have been pretty good.
I’ll hang on to Edwin for one more start, but would you rather go Wolf or Bedard as a replacement.
@Tony Tone: i hear ya on the batting average deal, and I KNOW some of these guys arent hitting sub .250 all yr, BUT my league counts singles, doubles, triples, HR’s, and all the normal counting stats plus BB, 10×10…. so having a couple guys who combined will give me 40 HR’s, and 20 SB’s with a .300+ avg = alot more hits than ryan howard and his 40 HRs and .270 avg…. rbi’s will be close, i know two guys will drive in more than Howard but you gott think i’d have a replacement player and Howard….
Also Wolf has Houston tomorrow, so would dropping Edwin for him right now just to get that start be a little nuts haha.
Dice-K tonight, Burnett tomorrow, or neither?
@Tony: plus i think i mentioned above we count K’s, which i usually dont give an eff about, but howard K’s a ton, combine him with my team of wright, and the other million dudes i have that have K’d in the teens or near 20 times already…. its been rough.
@Grey: He’s definitely on the downside of a career, but is he too cooked to have value? Maybe. I guess I’m still feeling like it’s too early to know for sure. Tough this time of year knowing when to let go. Have to guard against the emotional connection to guys you invested a draft pick in. But you don’t want to be knee jerk…or really any other kind of jerk other than soda. Time will tell a true tale, as my Irish ex-girlfriend would say (only she’d say it in Gaelic).
Next week, should I start Beachy vs. Brewers (Marcum) or Latos vs. Pirates (Karstens)?
@Grey:
you’re not subject to this , are you ?
“social media policy and other regulations regarding the use of electronic equipment during the course of a game.”
Motte or Bastardo in a holds league? Thanks.
wow .
the mightiest quinn of all might be justin .
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110429&content_id=18394582&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
the whole city of san francisco ??
seams a little over-zealous
@Grey, Rudy (if you’re reading) and all you other Razzers….
I’m a little worried with my team. I was really happy with it to start the year, but I’ve found myself in last place. I’m thinking of shaking up my entire lineup by making some major trades, but I can’t get over how much I like my lineup. I’m looking for some advice as to what I should look for in a trade to come out of this funk. I’m thinking of trading anyone just to shake it up. I’m looking to target Holliday, Kemp, Tulowitzki, and/or Longoria. I trust myself to make pitching moves, so I’m not looking to acquire any pitching, but I’d be willing to trade any of my staff. Do you think I should hang out with what I’ve got or look to make some big time blockbuster moves?
C Santana
1B Dunn
2B Phillips
SS Hanley
3B R. Roberts (Zimmerman DL)
OF Quentin
OF Tabata
OF Adam Jones
Util Morneau
SP Gallardo
SP Gio Gonzalez
SP Hudson
RP Feliz
RP Valverde
P Storen
P Capps
P Harrison
P Buchholz
P Volquez
I’ve just proposed the following, so I’m not shy to make some major moves:
Quentin, Morneau, Hanley, Gallardo
for
Kemp and Votto
The guy I proposed it to is a bit of a rube, so he may go for it due to the magnitude of his return (4 for 2).
Am I crazy????
Am I overrating my original team? Or am I just extremely unlucky so far?
Thanks guys,
Bobby Nice
Krispie and dLR or Crawford?
@chata: Hold out for your proposal.
@agarthered: Depends on Wolf or Bedard’s next starts, but I think Wolf over Jackson, but I’d hold for now.
@nick m.: Dice-K, but risky.
@OaktownSteve: Was she in Once?
@Joba the Heat: Latos
@chata: Don’t think so.
@mwgris: Bastardo
@Bobby Nice: Your pitching’s gonna need help, your hitting should get better.
@Lis Franc: Krispie, but it’s fair.
@Grey: No, Galway.
Grey,
Cueto or Beachy going forward… Classic one today! thanks!
*edit
seems
Contreras just hit the wire in my 14 team h2h. Assuming I have someone to drop for him, is he even worth owning at this point? I mean, do you actually think he’ll be the closer on his return, and if so, for how long? Obviously you can’t predict the future, but how about an educated guess?
@Bobby Nice: If that guy makes that deal with you, you win huge obviously. Grey is right about your hitting pitching. I kind of like teams gone hideously wrong now and again and the fight to get into contetion plus respectability. Pretty satisfying if you can manage your way to relevance. When I’ve ended up with pitchers under performing in the past I’ve often resorted to streaming. See what you can do to move the guys that you still have value for either closers or second in line closers. Package those guys with a hitter to try and get a slight upgrade at an offense position because you’ll have to maximize offensive points. And stream a little stream… Kind of fun. Or not. But you know, if ain’t working, nothing wrong with getting creative.
@OaktownSteve: Ah
@tggq21: Beachy, thanks!
@royce!: He’ll be the closer in a month for a few weeks until Lidge comes back and gets injured again.
@Grey: Ah, I hadn’t thought about the fact that Lidge would get injured yet again. I think that makes holding onto Contreras worthwhile. This is why we pay you the big bucks!
@royce!: Looking at Fukudome, he has 11 hits in the 7 last days and no RBIs.
WTF is it with Reds SP and 1st innings?
Ugh.
Every pitcher I touch turns to shit. Wood the latest one.
Sheesh.
@Eddy: @Steve: I am now jumping out of my first floor window.
@Grey:
I’ll catch you, I’m already there.
Gets hit for the cycle plus two walks and then lets the pitcher get an RBI base hit, THAT IS IT !!! I’m whacking my Wood. Right &*^%$^ now.
Current H2H ERA and WHIP? 7.01. 1.53.
I suppose there’s every possibility that the Reds will pound on Vasquez at least that badly, but who knows if Wood will even get out of the next inning?
@Eddy: Thanks!
@nyydj2: Ha
@Steve: At least it gets washed away after Sunday.
@Oaktown Steve
Thanks dude. I’m hoping a little more then “respectability”, but I see what you’re sayin’. Doodes in my league draft pitching early, but Beachy is still on waivers. I think I’m gonna try my luck at trading me some Gio for a solid OF’er. I don’t mind steaming and trading a closer or two on the way.
Stay solid broheim.
Or is that too, San Fran?
I’ll let you know if that rube takes the deal.
wow, what’s up with Wood.
Throwing harder than usual, k’s are up, bb are down. Both slightly.
Hr were down before this game. He just had a ridiculously high BABIP.
But now this.
C choices, J.P / Suzuki / W.Ramos, for rest of season
H2H: R/H/HR/RBI/SB/K /Avg/OPS 14×25
thanks~~
@grey: drop freddie freeman or trumbo for Jack Hanahann?
Or hold?
@Donnie Baseball: Yeah, I know. It’s just terrible luck that’s hard to put up with.
@henW: Ramos
@Tony: Hold
woods location is killing him,breaking ball looks great fastball has its zip,but missing dead middle of the plate,but bruce is thriving in the 2 hole
@Grey: @Steve: @Eddy: Kicking myself for dropping Beachy for Wood now. AHH!
@Grey: That’s remarkable, though he has been hitting leadoff, so he’s following either Hill or Soto and the pitcher. You’d think that at least one of those hits would involve someone aboard. 2 RBI for the entire season (23 hits) is pretty damn crazy. Jamey Carrol has 3 RBI in 26 hits. Adam Lind has 20.
I told a guy in my h2h that I was interested in Billingsley, hoping to buy low on him. At the same time, I sent him an offer of Hanrahan for Morrow (he needs a closer).
His response? I trade Choo for Billingsley. He writes, “I notice there’s a huge disparity in O-Rank, but frankly, I don’t know what the hell that number means, and I’m also very hesitant to trade away any starting pitching.” Jeez, man, you could’ve just said you weren’t interested.
@Flunkie:
I’m kicking myself for dropping Pineda in the pre-season for Beachy, then dropping Beachy for a spot-starter after his implosion against none other than the Marlins.
And now watching the Marlins spank Wood is just so bittersweet.
@royce!:
Wow, some people are so oblivious. Kind of like this one moron in my league who ONLY looks at current stats to determine the entire season of a player. So to him, Pedro Alvarez and Narveson for Garza is terrible because Alvarez sucks and doesn’t like him. Granted, Alvarez IS sucking, but he doesn’t suck. And it’s not a bad gamble in a keeper league.
Regardless, I think that owner did you a favor because Choo for Bills is way lopsided on the Choo side, imo.
@Eddy: I’d love to be in a league with someone who only looked at current stats. I’d pillage that team.
I might be being dense, but how is offering Billingsley to me for Choo doing me a favor? Are you saying that I shouldn’t be going after Bills?
@royce!:
I think Choo is worth more. I actually think you can pry a struggling Ubaldo, if anything. Unless of course you have a very stacked OF.
@Grey and @Everyone -
Michael Bourn or Rajai Davis?
@Grey:
Smoak or Adam Jones?
@William:
Bourn
Rajai just stole 2nd first game back (on a pitchout).
@Grey: Are you serious? “Gay Porn Reveal” episode finally airs and your ass isn’t firmly planted in front of your set? I threw a Gay Porn Reveal Party where my buddies and I all drank Cosmos and talked with lisps while gently stroking our chihuahuas and blaring Lady Gaga during commercial breaks! Girl… you need to watch that shizz pronto!
@royce!: We’re 80 RBIs behind 1st place in one league with one month in. We have Morneau (8 RBIs), Alvarez (7 RBIs), Fukudome, Byrd (5 RBIs, batting fifth!). Crazy…
@William: Bourn
@Eddy: Smoak
@Awesomus Maximus: Wow, just watched it. Best episode ever.
@AL KOHOLIC:
yeah you have to give Dusty credit for moving Bruce to the 2 hole. He’s seeing better pitches, being more patient.
At first I was like what the hell is Dusty doing putting a guy who strikes out every other AB 2nd. But it’s working out well.
@Eddy: I should be able to land a top 5 SP for Choo, especially in this league, where we count OBP and XBH.
The manager wrote me back to explain his thinking. He thinks that SP are much more valuable than OF in this league, so that the rankings aren’t helpful. So I offered him Brett Anderson for Crawford. We’ll see how that one pans out.
@Grey: Darwin Barney has almost as many RBI as those guys combined. It makes sense that RBI as a measure of a players value was the one of, if not the, first myth that Bill James debunked.
Grey, would you give me Gardner if I offered you Sands?
@Donnie Baseball: hitting in front of votto=better pitches more fastballs for him
@Grey: Without question. The level of denial was hilarious. He admits to blowing a dude on film, and then says he never did gay porn in the same breath.
Drop Broxton for Nathan?
@royce!: Or is it just that Darwin Barney is more awesome than you can even handle?
Nah… it’s the RBI myth thing.
@Awesomus Maximus: Yes, he’s evolved beyond my capability to even appreciate his awesomeness. He graduated magna cum laude from awesomeness school.
You’re right, it’s just the myth thing.
@royce!: Yeah… but I’m certainly enjoying the mythical RBI train ride that Purple Evolutionist is driving.
scherzer…..yuck.
yeaaah lets leave Scherzer in there… he’s obviously tired with the 5 walks he’s thrown… I honestly think Leyland may be mentally Ill
@Black Beard: Why would you do that when he’s not even the closer?
Damn… Max had a nice start going until the 6th/7th, and then he took a big, steaming Scherz on my ERA and WHIP (not to mention blowing a shot at the W and QS). At least the Ks still count.
What line can we expect from Morneau at this point?
Unlike Dempster, Travis Wood deserves no patience. That hick’s on waivers.
Non-keeper, OBP league…trade Pence/Gordon for Crawford? …or is that offering too much? Only a 10-team league, and Gordon’s lack of BBs makes me think he’ll be pretty average or worse in an OBP league at the end of the season.
@Hennessey: My other OFs are Holliday, Heyward, Krispie, Bay, and Pierre
Marquis shuts out the Giants – only 96 pitches.
Kimbrel blows save.
Kimbrel with the blown save… WOW looks like i couldnt even buy a save this week!!!
Come on Braves, Tribe. I need these vulture wins like you wouldn’t believe.
Ike Davis with another tater trot, en fuego and im loving this production out of a second to last round pick. I wouldn’t be shocked with 280 and 30 bombs.
@Steve: One out of two. I’ll take that. Prado – you’re an idiot, though.
Run Krispie, run!
Grey, Should we be concerned with Kimbrel’s past two blown saves?
which sp would you drop:
harang, hudson, volquez, burnett
thanks…
Go Indians! Walk off grand slam!
Hey Grey, two questions:
1) Which side do you like better: Kuroda/Sands or Dempster/Gordon
2) Who’s a better Utility play for next week: Sands, Wallace, Jonny Gomes
i think Jimmy Leyland loves seeing his own pitchers fail
Rauch breezes through a 4-out save.
Come on you stupid Twins bullpen. Don’t you realise I sat Romero and started Baker?
@Steve: Unbelievable.
Hey, what’s the deal with Boggs pitching the 8th? Are we looking at Sanchez as the new closer?
stick a fork in Lilly.
his fastball is either 85 or 86 and guys are just sitting on his curve.
@tggq21: If you can tell me who gets the majority of saves in LA the rest of the year with any certainty, I’m all ears.
@Deeeeeeez Nuts: prolly so
12 team roto
Andrus, CC Sabathia,Casey McGehee for Werth,Reyes,Ian Kenedy and Edwin Jackson
I get the Andrus side….
Thanks
Is Pence or Young plus Madson or Broxton for D.Wright close? Got Alvarez and need a 3B badly.
@Grey: Which Side? Lilly & McClellan or Gallardo & Dempster
Pick two please: Morneau, Smoak, Jones
@Grey – Great ALF reference! Dropped Shumway for Raburn (finally 2B eligible @CBS). Wallace worth dropping either Rios or Tabata for? Got Holliday, Kemp, Bruce & Berkman already, still losing this week largely due to d*** Bautista. Thanks!
Hey Grey,
Wood for a brown bag filled with dog crap to throw at Liriano?
Hellickson and Morrow are pitching against eachother this wednesday. I have to start 1 of them in my 5th spot who do you suggest?
pena isnt even playing everyday now,dropped him for cuddyer,hey hes got me a hr and a sb plus his 220 ave is better than penas 160,and i dont think a broxton save against the bottom part of the pads lineup should count but 1/2 a save,hehe
Dude, this Tony Gywnn Jr shizz is way too oedipal- just robbed the Padres of what seemed to be a go ahead run. When he was on MIL, Sept. 29, 2007, 2 outs, 2 strikes, bottom of the ninth, he got a walk-off hit off of Hoffman, preventing the Padres from clinching a spot in the playoffs. Dude hates his dad. What’s up with that?
good bye broxton,goodbye broxton good bye broxton we love to see you go,
Just traded Pence for Carl Crawford, was this a good move?
@Tony Tone: crawford still wins that trade fairly easy,because his worst numbers are still really good,but i think we see some below ave numbers from crawford this year,say 274 ave-90 runs -16 hr-68 rbi and 45 sb,s,.Like i said they are still topfantasy numbers umder bad season standards
@Tony Tone: crawford still wins that trade fairly easy,because his worst numbers are still really good,but i think we see some below ave numbers from crawford this year,say 274 ave-90 runs -16 hr-68 rbi and 45 sb,s,.Like i said they are still top fantasy numbers umder bad season standards. So everyone scared of him is going to gettop numbers even if he so-called sucks this year
@AL KOHOLIC: You need to go to bed. You’re double posting
ha,caught me drunk,,,magine that
@AL KOHOLIC: Sounds like a good time to send you a trade.
aviles or baker
Grey,
Love the insert of the growingly, popular “schmotato,” on Dino Darwin the Purple dinosaur-loving Barney. I think I might start old Dino over your boy Espinosa….
Boar Juice:
Dear Mr. Mustache, Peter Bourjos not only looks like Pete Campbell from Mad Men, but also kicks ass at baseball and will only get better.
But please explain to me (a relative fantasy newcomer) why he is so fast and still gets caught stealing? Triples are alright, but a guy could use a NSB every once in a while.
@Black Beard: Broxton will keep the job man. It’s a month into the season!
Fortunately, I get to activate someone and drop one of these guys. Denorfia or Laynce Nix.. Who should go?
Denorfia has slowed down since pulling his groin, Nix keeps hitting HR’s in very Limited action and Morse seems to be doing even better.
I just traded Morneau and Buchholz for Smoak & Pineda. Which side do you prefer and is it close?
Hey guys, do you prefer Ludwick or Denorfia for the rest of the season? I got the NL-only fifth outfielder blues…
Hanley ramirez/jonathan sanchez or jeter/lester?
Keeper league sorry
grey….whose the better bet for some saves heading forward…contreras (if/when he comes back) or koji
thanks.
@Grey: Was offered Vlad for Gregg in RCL. I’m pretty desperate for power but it would leave me with a bullpen of Bell, Storen and Oliver. After that I’d probably drop Brantley for a setup guy… I’m on the fence. What do you think?
ah , yes .
a new day
brings new hope .
Any of these guys a good value to trade gordon for? Preferably a pitcher?
@royce!: Yup
@Tom Emanski: Nope
@Awesomus Maximus: I love how he described a pimp to a T without admitting to having a pimp.
@Black Beard: Nope
@MJD22: Hoping for 25 homers. Hoping.
@Hennessey: Sure
@tggq21: Nah
@paulzone72: Hudson?
@SwaggerJackers: Kuroda…Wallace
@Travis: Fair…Depends if you need a #1.
@yanks4life: Try it.
@MJD22: Gallardo
@bogbert: Morneau, Smoak
@AnotherFalstaff: Thanks! I’d hold
@Chinaski: Sure
@gametime: Morrow
@royce!: Ha!
@Tony Tone: Yup
@bean: Aviles
@Paddy Ballgame: Thanks
@Amigo Miguel: Not sure, friend. Bad reads off the pitcher?
@elwood blues: Denorfia
@KarlJ.: I’d take Morneau, close…
@Dude: Ludwick
@Trick dad: Hanley
@the grate one: Contreras
@3FingersBrown: I’d do it.
@joe: Any what guys?
@Grey: Interesting development in my 6×6 h2h league: Edwin Jackson just got dropped and I have #1 waiver priority. I also have Liriano and Ubaldo on that team. Could drop Morse (my only bench guy, I have LoMo on the DL), Richard, Garland or Narveson. Jackson starts against Minny and Seattle next week too, so there’s that.
Guess the question is Jackson over Narveson, Richard or Garland?
My rotation now – we’re counting QS and the standard 5:
Ubaldo
Liriano
Hamels
Kuroda
Wolf
Beachy
Richard
Narveson
Garland
DL: Peavy
@Grey Which side do you like? Wright/Tabata or Longoria/Werth. Thanks!
Any of the buy guys.
Might as well sit Volcanoquez against Johnson and the Marlins right? I mean the guy has to get it together first, yeah?
Also, Buchholz just hit the waivers. Worth grabbing or is he gonna keep up this crap run? Thanks Grey.
couldn’t imagine the frustration of playing fantasy football ,
where i’d have to wait a whole week ,
just to forget about the disappointments of yesterday .
@Grey: Done. I need all the power help I can get.
In 14 team 5×5 roto OBP only, would you deal Abreau for Sparkakis and Axford? Other guy has Nunez and Capps, but I don’t think he’ll move those guys. I’d ask for Nunez, Capps and Ax in that order.
I’m 2nd in OBP with that team but my bullpen is currently made up of Broxton, Padilla, Madson, Bastardo, Chapman, Rodney, Crain and Rhodes.
@Grey:
seems i drafted soto in every league .
this morning , i dropped him in one league , for ramos ,
so i could have 2 wilsons (with betemit)
just like you .
smart move ?
@3FingersBrown: Over Garland
@Howard: Longoria…It’s close.
@joe: Depends what you need.
@Nuke LaDouche: Depends on league.
@Nuke LaDouche: I don’t like Buchholz.
@3FingersBrown: Sure
@chata: It’s fine…
Think trading gordon for bwachy is fair?
All leagues are 12 man rotos. Like most people here I have Gallardo/Liriano/all the other highly ranked pitchers who have been awful so I’m pretty gun shy when it comes to bad starts right now. I don’t really love Buchholz either, but it still seems like he should end up better than almost any waiver wire pickup. Any other Razzers have thoughts?
@Grey: I was thinking of keeping Garland but suppose Narveson will get more K’s. It still blows my mind that Garland’s managed double-digit wins for the last 9 seasons.
Thanks for the help. This team’s pitching has really disappointed but you have to figure one or two of these big name schmos will turn it around, right?
Holliday / Jeter / Pineda
or
Cruz / Choo / Neil Walker
Which side do you like Grey?
Grey: 2 questions:
1) for rest of season, would you rather have Kubel or Torrrriiii?
2) for ROS, would u rahter have Haraang or Lohse?
@Nuke LaDouche: Buchholz just slipped through waivers for a $1 bid in my 14 team roto league. I’ve been celebrating my birthday, so I was too drunk to notice. Had I realized that, I’d have thrown $2 at him.
He’s another guy that you figure is bound to get it together.
fuld’s 1 for his last 21 is helping to define him as something less than
a .350 hitter .
Why even send Beachy out for the 8th. FFS.
Baker yesterday, Beachy and Shields today. Go away bad win karma.
More shitty luck…Pablo Sandavol has a fractured hamate bone and will have surgery on Tuesday. 4-6 week recovery time is minimum. I only have 1 DL spot and its already occupied by Mauer. I have Ryan Roberts with 3b eligibility, but I was already considering dumping him given that it appears the Cards are going to stupidly leave their hottest bat on the bench a lot of the time. The best 3b (based on the first months stats) available is Hanahan. My other option would be to use Roberts full time at 3b and then pick Rajai Davis back up (dropped him when he went on the DL). I don’t have any speed right now so that would fill a need. Thoughts?
Kung Fu Panda heading to the DL for 4-6 weeks per Rotoworld:
“Pablo Sandoval will miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist.”
@joe: I’d want a bit more.
@3FingersBrown: Hope so.
@Whiskey Diet: Holliday
@Joel: Harang, Torii…
@chata: Yup
@Steve: Seriously
@WDE05: @nick m.: Wow! Ouch, that hurts.
@nick m.: F my life
Perdro Alvarez owners, now’s your time to swoop in and trade him away to Sandoval owners!!!
Now I’m really concerned with Kimbrel…………
@Grey: Counting AVG and OBP, who is your Panda replacement? I’ve had a man crush on S-Rod since he was coming up in Cali. Does he step up?
Kouz, S-Rod, Betemet, Hannahan, Valencia, Wood
Has this been mentioned? Another HUGE blow to a 3B:
Ryan Zimmerman expects to have a sport hernia surgery and they’re thinking six weeks of rehabilitation. They’re saying isolated tear on rectus muscle.
So someone literally tore him a new one.
PEDRO ALVAREZ OWNERS, DO YOUR THANG.
Grey, would you take Cooper over Felix Pie or Casper Wells? I know he’s going to play more in the short-term, but if he just ends up getting sent back down for Travis Snider in a month, that will kill my team (12 TEAM AL Only). and i know once i drop pie or wells, they’ll be gone by the time Cooper get’s sent down.
Thoughts? I think i’m better off riding w pie and wells, atleast i know they’ll be in the BIGS.
@Eddy:
Clarification: He tore his ab muscle. Timetable still six weeks, but not surprising if he misses beyond that.
@Grey:
Grey…would you pick up Hannahan to replace Panda or would you use Ryan Roberts at 3b and pick up Rajai Davis? I’ve got zero speed, but I’m also worried the d-backs will continue to not use Roberts as a starter.
@Grey – Watching Kimbrel soil himself again and Salas closing for the Cards. Venters and Salas in play as closers? Thanks!
a double gonzalez ejection in the cards/braves game .
Checked 5 RCLs and Salas has been grabbed in 4 of them in the last few minutes.
@VinWins: I just snagged him in my RCL. He was taken 20 minutes ago in my 14 team (blows, I could have really used saves there).
i just grabbed Salas and Sanchez in my RCL, dropped Derek Lee and B mccarthy
@3FingersBrown: I picked up Sanchez last week for $1 in my NL only; now I have to figure out what to bid for Salas. With back-to-back saves it will cost more. Currently I only have Nunez.
@Grey – raja Davis coming off the DL as my fifth outfielder because I am looking for steals in that spot. I need to drop Beltran or Coughlin and will keep one in the rotation. Coughlin’s shoulder makes me nervous, but so does Beltran because, well, he is Beltran. Who to drop?
@AnotherFallstaff – Venters technically got the blown save today. Today they both screwed up so hard to think Kimbrel and Venters swap places. Just my two cents.
@VinWins: What’s your FAAB?
GREY,would you rather have sands or moreland?and now salas gets another save,sanchez threw 2 innings yesterday so that could be why,i think he will play matchups and not have 1 closer for a while
@3FingersBrown: I have $80 left of $100
Would anyone start Duensing @KC? Grey, any thoughts? I mean Duensing has been pretty reliable so far.
@VinWins: I’d bid $11
@3FingersBrown: Thanks. That sounds reasonable.
@Chinaski: sure if you need the starts,he,s been good this year minus the strikeouts
@AL KOHOLIC:
Well i am leading my opponent 5 to 4 in a 12 team H2H 5×5. I need a win to pull even in that cathegory and i only have 4 more Ks than he does so a few extra Ks wouldnt hurt either…i tend to start him
@Chinaski: go for it.
@3FingersBrown: Sure, try Sean-Rod for a bit.
@Eddy: Ha!
@M.D.: Over Wells.
@WDE05: Roberts, Davis
@AnotherFalstaff: Venters
@VinWins: Ha!
@Bfeels: Coghlan
@AL KOHOLIC: Sands
@Chinaski: If you own him, start him…
harang, gallardo, scherzer and anderson….quite a week for my pitching…all i have is kuroda left tonight. if you have him, highly recommend sitting him….
argh.
Of course, 4 different Cards have saves in their last 5 wins.
“He’s the guy who was available today,” said La Russa of Salas.
@Grey: I’m weak at 2B too so there’s that.
Nice catch on the dude with the blue shirt on Mike McCoy’s HR against the Yanks. Guy threw it back with authority too.
My Pops just lost Panda and is now wanting Wright from me (have Longo coming back). Who wins this one:
Wright/CarGo/Bills for Uggla/Heyward/Weaver?
It hasn’t been offered yet, just curious…
Padilla or Salas?
Keeper league, super deep (start C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 4 OF, Util):
My SP is absurd: F-Her, Josh Johnson, Lester, Marcum
My offense is pathetic (categories are R, RBI, HR, OPS, SB…dead last in everything except SB)
I put Lester on the market and have received offers:
1) Nelson Cruz straight up for Lester
2) Rasmus/Gaby Sanchez for Lester/Cuddyer
3) Werth straight up
I’m leaning towards #2 based on Rasmus’ age…he seems like he’s only going to get better over the next few years, especially in a solid lineup hitting in front of Holliday and Pujols (and Berkman!).
Thoughts? Is this good value for Lester?
@3FingersBrown: You know Sean-Rod is playing with a dislocated finger and torn ligament, right?
@Wilsonian: i think id rather trade longo,but that trade looks fair
@Grey: Swisher or Smoak?
@VinWins: Nice
@3FingersBrown: I’ll have to find the video on that.
@Wilsonian: Wright side.
@Black Beard: Salas
@stumanji: 1
@Scott: Smoak
Slight need for poser over speed, drop Alcides for Juan urine?
@Grey: Cruz or Choo for Lester? Offensive categories are R, RBI, HR, OPS, SB.
@knighttown: Sure
@stumanji: Cruz
And Volquez breezes through the first. For him, anyway.
@Grey:
What does your magic ball say about the Reds’ rotation once Cueto and Bailey return?
I want to wish all Volquez owners good luck tonight. Unfortunately, I will not be toughing it out with you because my opponent’s Brett Anderson just made ERA close again and we’re tied 4-4. For once, I can’t afford a blow up.
That, and it’d be the third time I’d root against the Marlins this week and I don’t want to pay for it. I learned my lesson from Wood and Kershaw.
Grey: amazingly, Delmon Young has hit my waiver wire. we have 2 dl slots. What do you think of Delmon — should he EVER be on the wire? Even though I have 5 OFs (Braun, Kemp, JUp, Torriiii and Bourn) I have to pick him up, right?
@Eddy: bailey looking really good,1 run in 3 outings so far,8 k,s in 10 innings 6 hits before today
@AL KOHOLIC:
I believe they also announced he went 5.1 with 6 Ks, 1 ER and 2 BB today.
I’m just worried that I made a trade for Wood in one league and picked him up off the pool in another only for him to lose his spot.
Why are so many of my starters incapable of getting the damn pitcher out?
@Eddy: Wood looks out… Then not sure.
@Joel: He shouldn’t be on waivers in a 18 team league, but in a 10 team league, sure.
@Steve: Might just be our starters.
@Grey: Is this a Juan Rivera hot streak I see before me?
SB are so damn fickle.
I have Bourjos, Figgins, Ellsbury, Wright and Desmond and only have 1 SB on the week.
Yet my opponent gets one from Cano, Victorino and Votto.
@Eddy: bruce already has 4 this year,i thought he would run more,hell gomes even has 5 ,the reds are hitting johnson but not taking advantage and getting them in
What do you think about Wright for Uggla/Dirty Sanchez?
I’d have to drop Smoak to make it happen – IF I decided to do it.
grey, in a keeper can you rank how you would value these guys?
thanks.
cano, fielder, upton, kemp
thanks.
Unreal.. Ryan Zimmerman likely needs to get sports hernia surgery and will be out at least another month.. And this on the same day Jose Tabata has an apparent hamstring injury.. And a day after Coghlan announces his shoulder issue will keep his playing time down..
Jose Tabata had to leave the game early due to right hamstring tightness.
the Delmon Young question was in a 12 team league: should he be on waivers in a 12 team? For ROS, would u rather have him or Toriiii?
Don’t think we will be seeing Thornton in the closer’s role for say … a very long time …………………….
@simply fred: yeah seen that
Anyone with insight on Tray. Robinson. of , LAD.
any chance the Dodgers bring him this year.. and will he succeed?
So my outfield is sort of in crisis mode… Luckily for me I’m in a 10-team league with two dead owners, so there are plenty of guys on waivers. Which two out of these guys do you like going forward:
Boesch, Ryan Roberts, Johnny Gomes, Ryan Raburn, Peter Bourjos
@elwood blues: september,they want him to season a liNews/Analysis Headlines Preseason Outlook
Robinson heating up for Isotopes: Dodgers OF prospect Trayvon Robinson has put a slow start to the season behind him. After opening the year 2 for 14 for Triple-A Albuquerque, Robinson hit a three-run homer on April 12 and has since gone on a 11-game hitting streak. He is 18 for 42 (.428) with four homers and 18 RBI in that span. “I’m just getting my foot down, see a pitch, I can run balls out, do things I can control,” Robinson told MLB.com. “I knew it was going to happen. [But] we’ve still got a long year to go.” Part of Robinson’s success has been better pitch recognition. Still, while he is hitting .357 overall, Robinson has just six walks to 19 strikeouts in 15 games. “He’s controlling the zone; strikeouts have gone down,” Albuquerque manager Lorenzo Bundy said. “He’s getting his fastball and he’s putting it in play — he’s putting it in play hard.”

@Gambler: rayborn or boesch getting everyday ab,s
final Q: pitchers on the wire are Scott Baker, Wade Davis, Cueto and anibal Sanchez. Which TWO would you take? THANKS!
great win for the reds,
@AL KOHOLIC: I thought maybe a little sooner. I was looking at grabbing him as a throw-in in a deal.
I pulled a ballsey move in my dynasty. I traded Aramis and Gavin Floyd for Volquez and Raj Davis. Volquez is a rookie contract somehow, so he is cheap as hell for 5 years. Gavin is at $9, which is a little steep. Aramis and Raj were similar contracts. I just <3 me some Volquez. Did I buy too much into the GB rates and fantastic stuff?
@grey- If i can get carl crawford for my hunter pence and alex gordon I should do it right?
@cubbies299: volquezstill hasnt been recovered from tommy john surgery the usuall amount of time,he is getting better and could really start clicking especially after the break
Volquez stauffer Norris dempster
What two would you want?
Lost Panda, and potentially Youk for a couple games. Should I pick up Freese, Reynolds, or Figgins?
i luv u grey
@nick m.: @nick m.: id want freez,reynolds isnt doing anything but if he gets going he could hit 5 hr in a week,figgins has been hitting alot better latley so if you need steal that is an option just hate non rbi guys at 3rd
So, I’m behind 4-3 in Wins and today I have Wandy, Hammel, Volquez, Kuroda and Kennedy going. So that’s 35 IP, 28K, 2.06 ERA, 1.11 WHIP.
And ONE EFFING WIN. I hate you Brandon Lyon.
Oh and my opponent has Gregerson. Who goes 0.1 and will end up with the win.
You couldn’t make it up.
@Grey: Ha! If memory serves, he referred to his pimp as a “father figure” instead. Instant classic.
Honestly, as a roommate, could you refrain from calling him Spencer whenever he was around from this point on? This is why MTV needs to make an age exception one season and have someone like you or me (or both of us!) as a cast member. I’d argue there are more people viewing it as a comedy than a reality show at this point… our demographic needs to be represented!
@Grey: So your response to this question means you would drop Volquez for Beachy if you were in my position (own Volquez, Beachy on waivers)?
Stubbs/Verlander or Kuroda/Choo?
Scratch that… I forgot that I had Cueto sitting on my bench (he’s been there for a while, can you blame me?) so I swapped Benchy out for Beachy.
in al-only would you trade bourjos for conger and some faab money? conger would be replacing jose molina at catcher (b. pena is my #1 right now, yeesh). bourjos could be replaced by jarrod dyson or someone from the wire. i’m pretty deep in potential sb contributors (rajai, bourjos, dyson, pedroia, casilla, longoria, cruz)
other options: 1) try and get aj pierzynski from the same guy instead of conger (without giving rajai per his request). 2) accept having shitty catchers right now and focus on my lack of starting pitching instead in trades 3) stand pat and enjoy bourjos at least until his trade value is even higher.
Grey,
I was offered B.J. Upton and K-Rod for Grady… In a 12 team, 10×10 league.doubles, triples, BBs, K’s added in for offense and L, CG,SHO, BB added on to the pitching categories.
My outfield as of now…
Pence
Grady
Justin Upton
Tabata
Closers are….
Valverde
Kimbrel
and Boggs
would you accept?
It’s H2H if that matters…..
i guess option 4 would be try and flip dyson for conger but i highly doubt he goes for that… hard to sell a pinch-runner, even to someone looking for sb’s.
I should drop Francoeur for a newly dropped Mark Reynolds, right..?
@Grey:
WHich one should be dropped in a 14-team H2H?
Javier Vazquez, Joel Pineiro or Edwin Jackson?
@grey or anyone awake to help:
two trades offered to me what do you think?
My SMOAK for his WEITERS (currnetly Iannetta is my C)
My F-CORDERO for another owners SHIELDS (he got shields off waivers two weeks ago, my closers are soria, rivera, cordero and hanarahnana, so ya i have extra but I need offense more than I need SP’ing!)
thoughts?
grey,didnt own him till today,so im wandering if you guys are starting cobb today,thanks
while your at it,what about starting zimmerman,lack of k,s worry me
@Tony: do you need weiters?if so its fair,i like shields although he is in a terrible division,id rather add cordero with one of your current players and upgrade if you need the offensive help
@Grey: Start Narveson @HOU and Gio vs TEX?
im releasing sands after today, this is his final try for me, i have enough BUMS going 0-4 i can’t wait on a rookie nookie….
@AL KOHOLIC: well i have iannetta? SO do i need weiters? lol…. i dontknow…. for smoak? i think its like swapping an apple for an apple, i dont know if weiters makes that big a diff over iannetta….
So I was officially just offered Uggla/Filthy for Wright/Gio. I have Longo coming back, but I don’t think I can do it. What do you guys think?
Start any or all of these dudes in 14-team league today?
Masterson vs. Tigers
Gio vs. Rangers
Hudson vs. Cubs
How concerned are we about Tabata’s hamstring issue? Would you rather have him or Gardner (who says this is the best he has felt all year)?
@Wilsonian: no way would i give up wright for uggla…. thats essentially what it is…. dont get distracted by some junk pitchers in the deal and the fact you have the TWO BEST 3B in the MLB…. you can get more if you’re willing to part with one.
Weaver is sitting today due to illness.
And today is the one day I actually needed him. Narveson and Mosely better not screw up.
@Tony:
I’d make both of those trades, Tony.
Wieters IS a huge difference over Iannetta.
And you have to hop on the Shields train, whether it’s lucky or not, simply because you have a lot of closers to support the loss of Cordero.
@Tony: I agree with you. I’m thinking I gotta decline. I’m willing yo deal one, bit I think I gotta get more for one of em. Uggla could be a monster, but I’ve got Zorilla at 2B right now and not in need of Uggla.
Which players should I sit next week:
Espinosa, Ryan Roberts, Coco Crisp, Figgins?
What an interesting question,” I’m sure you’ve exclaimed. Well, I’m just an interesting person, really.
@royce!: Sorry, *player*
@Wilsonian: defly.
Ok guys which side:
A) Howard, Tabata, Hanson, Fuentes OR
B) Pujols, McCutchen, Baker, Neftali Feliz…..?
Just to keep you up to speed if youre not, tabata is achey? fuentes is fuentes, Baker has been strong and rudy likes him more than Liriano and Feliz is still rehabbing/kinda sore/supposed tobe back may 6? LOL
Who has the better day today, can start both, but some tough matchups [Gio Gonzalez or J. Zimmerman] who isn’t going to blow up my ERA/WHIP today Grey?
@Tony:
Side A.
Pujols>Howard
Feliz>Fuentes
McCutchen>Tabata
And Hanson is the only advantage compared with Baker.
@Eddy: so you’d want side A? lol you said every guy on B is better than A but hanson then you said you’d want A?
@Tony: Yeah, I’m pretty sure he meant side B. And I vote for B as well.
@Tony: Side B, all day, every day.
side b
@Steve: Yup
@Wilsonian: Wright
@the grate one: Kemp, Fielder, Cano…
@Joel: Torii
@elwood blues: Stephen mentions him today, I believe.
@Gambler: Raburn, Bourjos…
@Joel: Baker, Cueto…
@cubbies299: Sounds fine.
@Martin: Sure
@john: First two.
@nick m.: Freese
@bean: Love you back!
@Awesomus Maximus: Father figure — ha!
@Tony Tone: Stubbs side.
@rafi: 2 and 3
@tggq21: Sounds solid.
@rafi: Sure, flip Dyson if you can.
@mwgris: Sure
@Eddy: Pineiro
@Tony: I’d take Wieters and Shields.
@AL KOHOLIC: I’d start him.
@tHe sHiT: Yup and yup
@Ceasar: All
@royce!: Crisp
@abNormal: Gio
Grey: 2 quick Q’s:
1) so, you’d rather pick up Scott Baker than Anibal? I’m in a H2h — does anibal’s 2 starts next week lift him up?
2) With Youk lame, I need to pick up an infielder tomorrow a.m in my 6×6 h2h league. My choices are: Betemit, Brett Wallace, Matt Laporta and Hannahan. Who would you take out of those? I like that Bet and Hann have 3b eligibility (although thats not necessary for me cause I have Prado), but is Wallace just hands down a better pickup?
@Joel: 2 starts against who? I don’t know everyone’s schedule. 2 starts usually is a better bet though. Wallace…
Ciao,
I think someone asked a similar question. 12 Team, H2H.
Can I lose Reynolds for Freese for good? I’ve been trying to deal him but can’t and I’m strapped with three O’s right now (+Adam Jones, Sparkakis). Or do I hold?
Happy Sunday Grey
Sorry bout that. Anibal Lechter is at the Cards and home vs. the Nats. Baker is at the Green Monster.
If you are starved for pitching, would you send Brandon Phillips and Edinson Volquez for Felix Hernandez?
Grey : Just got offered the following in keeper league, whats your thoughts?
My Lind and Mike Trout(24 round keeper as he’s in minor camp) for Oswalt(11th round keeper)
I just got offered Braun for Wright and Tabata.
I have Reynolds I could slid in at 3rd and my OF would be Braun, J. Upton and Crawford.
Should I do it?
Do you trust d. hudson at this point?
He’s set to pitch against the cubs today, but i may sit him…
Would you trade Zobrist and Werth for Crawford in an 8×8 16 team league (SLG, BB, H)? Thanks
What do you think about Gardner or Tabata?
Also, I need to drop someone for when Longoria comes back if I can’t swing a deal. Who gets the drop:
Smoak, Tabata, Lind?
bad news: Narvy gives up 4 hits in one inning
good news: only one run
Pull up a chair, I’ve brought sausage and peppers and enough garlic bread for everybody.
I love Sundays.
cobb has a lead struggles a bit in the 5th and they yank him ,eliminating the chance for a win number 1,number 2 you bring in a bum to blow the inning up,crazy,see if he can work his way out of a jam
@Whiskey Diet: I’d prefer to hold Reynolds and play Freese over him until he picks his shizz up.
@Joel: Go with Anibal…
@Derrick: Yup
@Mr2Bits: I’d want Lind.
@Steven: Nah
@paulzone: Yup
@Cheese: It’s a bit much.
@Wilsonian: Smoak
@elwood blues: WHIPping post.
@scalez: Ha!
Bautista removed for pinch runner. No word yet why.
morneau goes deep
@Grey: well he might be,reynolds hits one to
BUD FREAKING NORRIS…..what an outing.
Here comes Jimmy Leyland trying to lose the game again!
Good grief, give me two Narvesons and a glass of whiskey, I’ve been Ubaldo’ed again!
Bautista left the game with “neck tightness” according to the oracle known as Michael Kay.
Which side wins?
Bruce/Liriano or Cruz/DLR
Thanks
and he did it!! good job Leyland
Thanks Ubaldo. You’ve blown my ERA lead straight to hell, now go ahead and make sure I lose WHIP too.
Is anyone watching Col vs. Pitt? What the hell is his problem? Velocity? Control? I’m starting to feel I have a better shot winning if I just cut loose him and Liriano and stream those two slots. I can’t do much worse at this point. So hard to admit that you essentially wasted two of your top five draft picks on those bums (it’s a keeper so the draft is wacky).
@3FingersBrown: Well obviously his control is all over, he’s walked 4 guys in 3 innings…
Should I start the following pitchers:
Verlander vs NYY
Gallardo @ ATL
Lohse vs FLA
I was thinking of throwing Verlander and Lohse out there. I’m worried about Gallardo though…
Thanks in advance, Grey!
@VinWins: stiff neck
@VinWins: Cause he wronged me!!! Yeah, I don’t know.
@AL KOHOLIC: About time and about time.
@3FingersBrown: Ha
@Carl: Cruz
@tggq21: Yup
@3FingersBrown: Yeah, very frustrating.
@bravo: I’d start all three.
@3FingersBrown: @scalez: thanks for the update. Hope it doesn’t lead to time off.
@Grey: Ha!
Assuming my SP and RP and equally alright, who more deserves a spot on my roster: Rauch or Ian Kennedy? I’m leaning toward Ian.
man Kimbrel Baba Booey’d my WHIP this week, can you get a W or a SV to help out tonite buddy. Cmon bravos. MMM bravos. No wait. Bugles. Mmmm bugles.
@Grey: At this point, I’d take average from those guys. Hey do you mix up Jon Garland and Jeff Garland (from Curb Your Enthusiasm)? I do all the time.
Nice. Papelschmuck gets me the W that I was supposed to get out of Ubaldo and/or Narveson. Go Sawx!
who would have imagined it but Liriano and Dempster are FAs.
here’s my current SPs. would you swap any in hopes of an about face?
sabbathia, hamels, oswalt, ogando, lily, lohse
also, if i can’t work a two for one deal for a top 2b, who would you drop to activate Longo from the DL:
vlad, chipper, gordon
thanks!
I just can’t buy into your C. Morton love Grey.
I’m trying to, but he just seems like he’s on the verge of getting rocked at any time. He’s tough to hit, but he’s all over the place.
And his k/bb is horrible.
@Grey:
Drop Wells for Raburn?
@Tony Tone: Kennedy
@scalez: Ha!
@3FingersBrown: It’s Jeff Garlin. I used to be in a writing group with him. He pitched us Curb and we were all like, “Bleh.” It’s all right, I told the writer of Little Miss Sunshine that his script was crizzap.
@paulzone: I’d go with Liriano over Lohse. Vlad…
@Donnie Baseball: It’s not exactly love, it’s hey, he’s going okay so ride it.
@Chris: Sure
for those following the Cardinals bullpen…Ryan Franklin has checked in to let everyone know he still coughs up man-pubes.
Drop Floyd for Colby Lewis or Bud Norris?
Norris or D. Hudson?
@scalez: Ha!
@nick m.: Eh
@Wilsonian: Hudson
Grey, can I get a little help picking which OFs to start? No real pressing needs. It’s a stupid weekly league, and I’ve gotten it wrong every time.
I need to start 3 (the two Orioles play 7 games next week, the others 6)
Adam Jones, 1 @ CWS, 3 @ KC, 3 v TB
Markakis, 1 @ CWS, 3 @ KC, 3 v TB
Jason Bay, 3 v SF, 3 v LAD
Coco, 1 v TEX, 3 v CLE, 3 @ KC
Fowler 3 @ SF, 3 @ ARI
Who would have thought that D. Moseley would be the Hodgepadre to own.
OK, I’m ahead in WHIP. Can we please get Garland out of the game now?
@Too Live Crudite: Sit Coco and Fowler.
@Donnie Baseball: Their team ERA is 3.03 and only one starter has an ERA over 4. And that’s Latos.
@Steve: Oh, and of course I chose Garland over Moseley. That win sure would have been nice too.
@Grey: Is Moseley a permanent fixture in the rotation?
@Grey:
That’s unbelievable, poor Latos owners.
But how many wins do they have?
@Steve: Thank you. Now Dodgers, let’s have a four-spot.
@Steve: The way he’s going, he should be.
@Donnie Baseball: Not sure, why?
@Grey:
No just saying that no matter how well they pitch, they aren’t going to get many wins.
I’m well stacked with Hodgepadres, but don’t have Moseley. And am hoping he falls apart so Luebke can take over.
Freese suffered a broken bone in his hand today. Will be reevaluated tomorrow in STL.
Krispie/McCann for CarGo?
I picked up Napoli a week ago off waivers, and I’d like to stop being a Scociopath and actually start him full time. I know Cargo isn’t liked very well, since he’s a schmohawk and all, but should I make this trade?
Come on Hudson – don’t fail me now.
Some guy in my league asked me if I’d trade him a closer. I’d like to offer him a 2-for-1 trade, giving him Street + a SP for his Verlander. I could then take Aardsma off my DL slot when he returns without having to drop a player (and it looks like he’s gonna be back soon). Here’s my lineup and league settings :
12 teams, H2H, 5×5
C: Montero
1B: Carbrera
2B: Phillips
SS: Andrus
3B: Youk
OF: J-Up
OF: Pence
OF: Rasmus
Util: Lind
SP: Lester, Liriano, Latos, Scherzer, De La Rosa, Lilly, Beachy, Norris
RP: Street, Walden, Farnsworth, Francisco, Aardsma (on my DL spot)
So which one of my SP would you offer him along with Street in exchange for his Verlander?
Hudson looking sharp, hopefully he can complete the tag team with Putz and get me the ol’ win n’ save.
@grey: Bud Norris looks legit. I’m considering dropping Volquez or Ian Kennedy for him. Y/N?
@Wilsonian: Ouch
@Wilson’s Beard: Sounds fair.
@Steve: I know.
@Vince: Liriano, Latos, Lilly or Scherzer, in that order.
@Tony tone: Hopefully
@gmen: Volquez
Yu Bak Kuo!
@Grey: Thanks Grey. Did you leave dlR off the list because you think he is gonna be good all season long or because you think the other guy wouldn’t accept dlR+Street for his Verlander?
@Steve: Ha
@Vince: The other guy isn’t taking dlR and Street for Verlander, but I guess you can try it.
if kuo did nothing else,he cost bell a save,hehe
@Grey: That’s what I thought, thanks!
Currently winning this week 14-1, and all I have left tonight is David Wright and my opponent has no one. I’m leading average .276 – .273, we’re tied in steals, and I’m down by 3 BBs. Best case scenario is Wright gets me a steal and I win 15-1. Worst case scenario is Wright goes 0-3 or 0-4 and I lose 13-2. The Mets are facing Cliff Lee tonight, so the odds of getting a steal will be slim, and the odds of getting a hit won’t be so great either. Should I play it safe and just bench Wright, or try and go for the juggular?
tied at obp going into the final game tonight
i have rollins and wright left
he has ryan howard
secondary worry is that i am only up by 4 runs and 2 home runs
should i bench wright against cliff lee? bench them both? start them both? i am leaning toward benching wright and starting rollins. what would yallz do
@Vince: No problem.
@Cheese: Don’t see the point of playing him.
@Walker, Pittsburgh Pirate: Start both.
@Grey – Wallace to clean-up for the woeful ‘Stros?
@Grey: Still prefer Bourjos over Reynolds?
Wandy Rodriguez or Anibel Sanchez?
@AnotherFalstaff: Would make sense.
@tHe sHiT: Sure, but totally different things.
@Grey: Currently rocking Espinosa at 2B in the ol’ H2H while Hill is out, but Raburn is on the wire.
Like the man in the mirror, should I make that change?
Stanton and DLR for Tabata and Bills…who wins? Fair?
@KarlJ.: Wandy
@Steve: I’d hold Espinosa.
@Wilsonian: Fair…Stanton…
@grey
please rate in order: Trumbo, Garrett Jones, Fuld, C. Gomez
Should I drop E. Jackson or Travis Wood for Bud Norris? With Cueto/Bailey returning soon it seems like the writing is on the wall.
@Grey: Thanks.
To bring our WHIP-killing conversation over here, do you still trust Travis Wood, IF he stays in the rotation?
And I know there aren’t many out there (and they’re not that cheap) but got any thoughts on solid WHIP guys that might be cheap-ish to acquire?
@Grey: thanks man. Made the offer for Stanton. Looked fair to me, but I just don’t like Bills.
Tomlin or McCarthy for the 2 start week?
@Steve: kuroda,he gets no respect because of mediocre k,s
@AL KOHOLIC: Already own him. But there’s only so much he can do – the rest of my rotation is Gallardo, Scherzer, Volquez, E-Jax, De La Rosa, Kennedy and Wandy.
Wow, Kuo just helped to knock me down five spots in our RCL standings. I think that they just may have rushed him.
@Steve: Pineiro.
@Grey: Someone dropped Rios…pick him up and drop K Johnson (I now have Zobrist at 2nd) or Sandoval (want to keep as A Ramirez isnt going to last all season).
Also Ogandi dropped. My pitchers are solid with the exception of Peavy. I waited this long, do i dump him? No other droppables unless you think Farnsworth won’t close for TB in the near future…
@royce!: – he’s owned.
What should we do with Narveson? Dude pitches 3-4 clean innings and then gets hurt by a 3-run shot. Carlos Lee did it today and Polanco did it last time.
Drop or hold?
And with Moseley, should be hold onto him in a 12-team league?
@bean: Trumbo, Fuld…
@vinko: Sure, Wood.
@Steve: Big if at this point. I do like him, but he’s making it hard.
@nick m.: McCarthy
@Nick: Johnson…Sure, lose Peavy.
@Eddy: Drop for who? Hold Moseley.
@Grey:
Well for Narveson, I just mean in general. Do we give up on him and label him a spot starter at best now?
@Eddy: Not in a 15 team league, definitely in a 10 team league.
Salas has good stuff and was an effective closer in the minor leagues, so he’s certainly a valid candidate for the long-term role. Then again, Mitchell Boggs looked good in the role at first, but as soon as he blew his first save, he was back to seventh-inning duties. Clearly, you can’t target just one player as the primary source for saves in St. Louis. If you had to pick one, Salas would be the first choice, but because La Russa is in no way distinguishing him, he’s still not a particularly exciting choice off the waiver wire unless saves come at a premium in your league.

laporta 5 for last 12,2 hr in last 5 games played with 5 rbi,becoming a viable option with upside
Isringhausen? What year is this?
Obama is supposed to make an announcement regarding Osama Bin Laden in about 5 minutes.
@Grey: 5 x 5 roto, pick 2 of 3 for the short term: raburn, roberts or barney. apples and apples?
Osama Bin Laden has been confirmed dead.
Who says Razzball can’t be your source of information for everything?!
k rod thought he was playing cricket with those 3 one hoppers
@Eddy: recently killed,or just confirmed from previous tries
@AL KOHOLIC: i got it on now
@herschel: Those 5 make sense.
@Eddy: Hopefully it wasn’t Scottie Pippen in a beard they killed.
@Grey: If you know who Scottie Pippen is, anything is possible.
@Eddy:
and in about 5 minutes , obama is going to make a public announcement .
just so no one gets the wrong idea .
Apparently it happened last week. He was killed in a drone strike.
I guess the Royal Wedding was too important to interrupt?
@Eddy: had to wait to obtain dna evidence….
@Eddy:
Ha! I’m always going to remember that the place I found out Osama bin-laden has been killed was razzball.com
@Grey: That’s freaking hilarious!
@Gambler: That’s also freaking hilarious!
@Grey:
looking forward to your “what i saw” article , tomorrow .
was at the zoo today .
missed everything … except caught up with the mets/phillies in the 9th .
what i see …. ryan howard showing warning track power in a
little league park .
and he ain’t getting any younger .
maybe they’ll move the fences in …. and sell more seats .
what i’m enjoying …. extra inning games with little to no scoring ,
and i don’t have any of the players involved .
maybe i’ll move up in the avg column by default .
Albert Pujols played 3B today for the final couple of innings due to Freese’s broken hands.
Hmm…
@Grey:
also ,
talk about a thin position …
3rd basemen are dropping like flies .
@Eddy: He was 3B eligible back in the day, OF too if memory serves.
If Victorino gets aboard here and steals, I will not be best pleased.
@Steve: Don’t need no David Wright SB neither.
@Steve:
Correct. I believe in 2001 they used him all over the place. And I have to disagree on the Wright comment. He spared me losing 4-6 and brought it down to 4-5.
Big week (I hope) for my RCL team. Get Longo, Morrison and Torres back…
I just traded Victorino, Fuld, and Jeremy Walden for Marcum and Crawford. Did I win because I got Crawford or Marcum? However now I need to try and find some saves in a league with a starts limit. Any recommendations for guys to grab now who are currently not closing?
