I don’t do 1st baseman sleepers because there are none. If you’re drafting a 1st baseman sleeper, you’re losing your league. Who are you putting at 1st? Yonder Alonso? That’s cool. Don’t pay your league fees until the end of the year and then duck out of the country. You feel me? Okay, now stop. 3rd baseman are more or less in the same boat, and that boat is the Titanic and if you draft a sleeper 3rd baseman, you’re gonna sink while holding until to a lady named Rose who gets real old. But some of youse have corner men in your league, so may as well look at a few 3rd basemen for s’s and g’s. Do not draft, say, Chris Johnson as your 3rd baseman. Clear? Good. These are all 3rd basemen that being drafted after 150 overall. Now, this is a (legal-in-all-countries-except-Singapore) supplement to the top 20 3rd basemen for 2013 fantasy baseball. Click on the player’s name where applicable to read more and see their 2013 projections. Anyway, here’s some 3rd basemen to target for 2013 fantasy baseball:
Todd Frazier – (Yahoo 203; ESPN 173; MDC 203) Before Rutledge and I were cruising past The Castro looking for a place to get comfortable, it was Frazier and I. (That’s cruising past Starlin Castro, by the way. Was that clear? Cool. Oh, crap, how do I get out of these parenthesis? A little help here! Oh, here I go…) My love blossomed early for Frazier, but that doesn’t mean he’s any less of a FBC (fantasy baseball crush). We just drafted him yesterday in the Funston-run Yahoo league. And, back on January 1st (damn, don’t I ever rest?), I said he has the upside of 35 homers. To be that confident in him and his playing time with Dusty, you’d think I had Jack Hannahan tied up in my car’s trunk. Hmm, well… *coughing over the banging from inside my trunk*
Will Middlebrooks – (Yahoo 154; ESPN 188; MDC 154) He’s barely a sleeper. I don’t mean that in the conventional sense of barely. That would mean he sleeps in the buff. Wait, huh? Shoot, I meant, I don’t mean he’s a sleeper in the conventional sense. Okay, you know what? I don’t know what “in the conventional sense” means. You got me, are you happy? Middlebrooks is going for around what his value is, not much more and not much less. He does have some upside, but I’m concerned about his wrist issues. I would not reach for him, but I would draft him around 150-ish to slot in at my corner.
Chris Johnson – (Yahoo 340; MDC 341) I liked Johnson a lot when he was on the Diamondbacks. Simultaneously happening in another part of my brain, I liked Juan Francisco a lot. Then those two players crashed together like they were in a god-awful Dave Matthews song and now their fantasy values are fingercuffed to each other. I like Johnson a tad more, in the non-sexual way.
Juan Francisco – (Yahoo 335) See what I said about Johnson and multiply it by “Yeah, I’m not sure who will be the everyday 3rd baseman, but if one does become that guy, he will have more value.”
Lonnie Chisenhall – (Yahoo 300; MDC 354) Talking about Lonnie Chisenhall gives us a good opportunity to reflect on the passing of Bonnie Franklin. *clapping hands together* Okay, back to fantasy! I’m not thrilled Aviles is lurking to prospblock Chisenhall, but Chis’ has blocked his own opportunity to break out with his lackluster performances so far. Like I mentioned the other day with Cozart and shortstops to target, Chisenhall could be a post-hype sleeper. If you have both Cozart and Chisenhall on the same team, your team might be post-hype sleeping with the fishes.
Jedd Gyorko – (Yahoo 246; MDC 265) In the 2nd basemen to target, I went over him. Go read it, Gyorko!
Manny Machado – (Yahoo 213; ESPN 178; MDC 254) I’ve already drafted Machado on one team (there’s some draft recaps I need to post; once I get these sleeper posts out of the way I will do that). After I drafted Machado, balloons fell from my ceiling and Boog Powell emerged from my pantry to congratulate me (I was wondering where all of my Teddy Grahams were going!). Last year, if you wanted to draft a guy like Machado, you had to draft him in the 5th round, as shown by 2012 ADPs of Lawrie and Hosmer. Whether it’s people actually smartening up about drafting a young player that high or people dumbing down and not realizing how good Machado is, I’m not sure. Let’s take it as a blessing like when your mother spit you out onto the hospital floor. “One day, little man, we’re gonna talk about Machado’s fantasy baseball ranking while I enjoy a Cobb salad.” That’s you and your ma nineteen years ago. She was prescient.

Where would you rank the 3 players the Yankees have been looking in to signing on this list? Scott Rolen, Chiper Jones and Ron Santo
@Eric W: Ha!
@Eric W:
Graig Nettles taking BP as we speak…
@Eric W: The Yankees signed Ben Francisco, they meant to sign San Francisco. Not the city, but the actual saint the city was named after. He used to play 3rd at the monastery in the 1400′s.
Good read as always, Grey. Quick question: Picking 8th in a 12-team, C,1B,2B,SS,3B,OF,OF,OF,UTIL H2H 6×6 (TB, OPS; L, QS) …I am expecting to be choosing between: Fielder, Pujols, Upton, Stanton. I want to draft Upton and then gran Longoria in the 2nd. Then choosing between Adam Jones and Starlin Castro in the 3rd (if they are both there of course.) Would this scenario warrant a selection of Castro? Because I would then hope to grab Goldschmidt and Choo right after (of course leaving me with no true ace…slowly losing interest in Greinke.) And in this type of league, who would you take between Stanton and Upton? Thanks!
@Randy N: Thanks, RN. I’d take Stanton… Castro is fine in the 3rd…
Just found out that I am picking 9th in my 10 team mixed league. The bad part is that draft spot almost completely eliminates any chance I have of drafting a top tier third sacker unless one falls to the third round. Sure I could reach 10 spots to snag a Belted or Longoria, but for that 12th overall pick, I would likely be passing over the likes of Fielder or Stanton, but that wouldnt be prudent (In the voice of Dana Carvey doing George Bush). The next grouping of decent third baseman comes around the 6th/7th round. If you were in my shoes (would a size 11 fit?), gun to your head (suspiciously feels like a pack of Rolos), all things considered equal, which if these third baseman would you draft in that second grouping: Headley, Sandoval, Lawrie? I didn’t include Zimmerman because he’s going in the 5th round according to yahoo adp and that’s where I’ll be targeting Goldy and my first pitcher. Unless you think Zimmerman’s value far exceeds the aforementioned third baseman? 4 am ramblings…
@bossmanjunior: I think you’re underestimating where players will go. Unless you’re in a league with a bunch of dunces?
Also ADP’s may adjust somewhat here soon. YAHOO usually updates them. So guys not be exactly where you’re thinking.
Are you not interested in David Wright at 12 at all? It seems early, but he wont be back in the 3rd and like u said you want Starlin or A-Jones…. I’d take Wright over Longo.
@Tony:
I don’t think I’m underestimating them at all. The adps shouldn’t change too much more. Right now Cutch (my target) is at 7, Prince is at 11 and Stanton 14. Longoria is around 21. Worst case scenerio, I end up with Prince and Stanton/Longoria. I’m not touching Wright, his batted ball profile is all out of whack. Hits too many ground balls and most of his home runs are lucky. According to ESPN Hittracker, highest percent of “just enough” home runs and zero no doubt home runs.
The poster above me wanted Castro and Jones…
Draft a stud OF with your 1st pick (say, Giancarlo or Justin Upton) and then grab Longo after the turn. Therre will be a decent 1B to be had later (maybe AuShizz in the 3rd, or Freeman, Rizzo, Hosmer even later).
@Vacation:
I’m targeting Cutch for my first pick but I don’t think I could pass up Prince or Votto if they are still. My next best option would be Stanton with the 12th pick. If I take Cutch and Votto/Prince are gone for my 12th pick, I’ll reach for Longoria. This is probably be my strategy and seems to be in accordance with Grey’s rankings.
If you can get McCutchen there then you should absolutely grab him. Same for Votto/Prince at the turn.
@Vacation:
As a wise Grey once told me, its about getting the best value so I dont think he would recommend passing up value like Votto/Prince/Stanton for Longoria.
10 team 5×5 roto league with runs+rbi as one category and total bases as the fifth. do you still prefer fielder to votto?
@scott: Yeah
Grey, any update on timing of the pitcher pairing article – the one where you lay out possible draft strategy for pitchers in various tiers? That is hugely helpful so please keep it on the to do list! Thanks for the great content (and humor).

I’ve commishioned the league for 3 years now. It’s a $50 buy in thru LeagueSafe, all cash payed out. You would draft from the 12th spot since we’ve already done a draft randomizer. Remember you can do more than one league if anyones looking for a small cash league, here ya go….
Draft Date: Locked in for March 24th at 6:45pm

Hi, in what tier of pitchers do you recommend grabbing your first pitcher in a 12team H2H pitchers categories of W,L,CG, Ks, WHIP, ERA, S,BS? Thanks!
@Edward Scherzer Hands: The Lee tier would be fine…
Digging Machado also who may have received your Rutledgelove if still at SS. But still keen on him at 3B. If already rostering Zimmerman at 3B, would you recommend selecting Machado for 1B/3B before drafting a second tier starter 2B or SS like Espinosa, Aybar, Altuve,…or even Rutledge? Worried about dropping to a hideous third tier of Uggla, Beckham, Cozart, but I always wanted to meet Mr. Powell and balloons make me happy.
@zombie: Those guys are a bit all over the map with drafting… Espinosa and Altuve’s going way before Machado, so they’re not really a toss up from what I’ve seen…
@zombie: In my 10 team 5×5 roto league I grabbed Espinosa in the 13th and got Machado in 25th
@Jeff P: Wow. A true bargain if that is the case! Just to be certain, may reach a bit though… Thanks Gents.
12 team H2H 5x.
Drafted Simmons in last round as insurance for Aybar/ Sciocia potential meltdown. Wil Myers was dropped yesterday and Profar is avail on waivers. I like Simmons leading off with the new lineup in the ATL. Profar can provide depth at SS/2nd. Myers is a power OF/Util option…

@sanfran1966: given that you only have 3 OF spots, I’d drop Fowler and get someone with upside…and no, Myers doesn’t really fit the bill there. I would add some depth at IF since Bonofacio may not be be the everyday 2B-man. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks Gray! Hope to get your sneaky picks in my drafts this year – as long as nobody else listens to the Razz. You have a Thesaurus sitting next to your Comp?? Sent me to the dictionary with that Machado post (prescient).
@My My My Myyyyyyyyyy Kuroda!: Ha! I learned you something.
Did anyone see that great new article Matt Berry wrote? He actually wrote a new article this year instead of the draft day manifesto! Until you read it, it’s basically the same garbage as every other year but with half the content. What does ESPN pay these people to do? Their lead guy doesn’t even write anything.
@Darkness: He gets paid to not write, that’s better for all of us…
What’s up Grey, love the site!
Who in your opinion should my 3 Keepers be in my 12 team 7×7(extra cats are OBP, SLG, Holds and OBPA) Yahoo League?

Thanks Grey!

Grey,
We have a 16 team keeper league, h2h points where we can keep two hitters and two pitchers forever giving up the round they were drafted in. I have Moore and Harvey, both of which are free to keep…Loving that.
Anyways, to my question. One of my hitter keepers is Manny Machado. He’s also free to keep forever and during our draft last week I kept thinking I’d get a little insurance for him. Well the draft came and went and every time I saw a 3rd i’d consider adding as insurance, someone else would fall who I had higher on my board. Needless to say, I didn’t end up with a backup/handcuff for Manny. Would you just roll with Manny as your starting 3rd in a league this deep? Every ranking I see him between 14 and 18th rated 3rd, but I got burned really bad by Brett Lawrie last year, so I’m a little gun shy with young 3rd basemen. I follow your site quite a bit and my team looks like one of the top teams on paper right now. My only glaring “hole” would be Manny. I admit, I was relieved to read that you’re also drafting Manny as your 3rd. Thoughts?
@Byobeerling:
Also, in your Corey Hart projection, you have him not coming back until around June. I’ve read reports that he’s targeting late April and the team is thinking more along the lines of May-ish. He was hurt with a knee injury last spring too and still finished 19th for OF’s in CBS h2h leagues w/ 30 homers. Say he comes back in May, where would you slot him in your OF rankings then?
Thanks and great stuff as always.
@Byobeerling: Might move up 15-20 spots if Corey came back in April… I think you’re okay for now in a 16 team league having Manny as your 3rd… It’s not ideal, but I’m guessing you have a solid team around him…
Took over dynasty team – 10 team NL only 5×5 league. 2 catchers $260 budget. Seriously expensive guys on the team – who should I keep:
Brian McCann. $26
Jimmy Rollins. $28
Hanley Ramirez. $50
Matt Holiday. $50
David Wright $40
Jason Kubel. $16
Matt Cain $40
Papelbon. $36
Broxton $26
Thanks!
@El Gato: Are there more options?
@Jack Full of Donuts: 15 total keepers if you want, and I’m already keeping some pitchers with good value:
Romo $4
Vogelsong $7
Estrada $10
Edwin Jackson $7
its the offense that is way overpriced. No bargains to be had and just wondering do I throw everyone back,
@El Gato: flush the toilet start anew
12 team, 10×10, daily roto league, 23 active: 2C, MI, CI, 5OF, DY, 6SP, 9P, 6 bench.
$320 total budget, keep 6, my candidates are:
Salvador Perez $10
Wilin Rosario $10
Votto $25
Hanley $25
Lawrie $15
Aoki $10
Kemp $21
Stanton $15
J Upton $25
Rizzo $10

Aroldis $11
Thanks
@doghat666: Votto, Stanton, Kemp, Upton, Rizzo, Aroldis…
Middlebrooks ahead of Machado…or BOTH?!
Also, anyone know of any news on Daniel Hudson and his rehab? Just trying to find some darkhorses who I can stash or keep an eye on. Seems like people have forgotten about him and Beachy.
@Wilsonian: http://razzball.com/top-20-3rd-basemen-for-2013-fantasy-baseball/ Hudson is due back mid-summer…
Need to pick keepers in my league by sunday. Any chance Bautista gets 3b eligible with Lawrie hurt? I like most of my keepers but its hard to keep a CI guy and throw back Bautista or Reyes.
OBP league, keep 6
Cano
Pujols
Kemp
Votto
Braun
Longoria
Reyes
Bautista
who do you keep?
@Black Attack: throw Bautista back
@Jack Full of Donuts: Bautista and Reyes?
@Black Attack: yeah yhat, is this like one on one fantasy. you have five first rounders from last year
@Jack Full of Donuts: It is obviously a keeper league, had some of these guys since they were called up to the show just got some of the right ones…1B is so deep and im keeping 2 of them seems bad. Wish you could trade before the season started.
@Black Attack: Grey do you agree with Braun, Cano, Pujols, Longoria, Kemp, Votto?
Yup
@Grey: It pains me with so many good 1b guys out there and Longoria’s history…but oh well.
@Black Attack: gotcha
@ Grey Any update on getting the excel war room to 14 teams? Thanks!
@Mike: Trevor got back to people in the SS to target comments: http://razzball.com/shortstops-to-target-2013-fantasy-baseball/ Search for “Trevor”
@Mike: Can’t you make it 14 teams by adding additional teams in the “User Input” tab?

@Grey: thanks! Btw do u see any particular moves I should make?
Not as of right now…
Curious where you took machado. # what overall?
@jimbo: It was an auction…
Grey, I see that you have Andrelton Simmons down for just 56 runs scored. Knowing that he is looking like the leadoff hitter of a pretty potent Braves lineup, shouldn’t that number be closer to 75-80+. Also, as a leadoff hitter I would think that would help his steals chances. I like Simmons as a much cheaper version of Elvis Andrus in a now similar lineup. He’s one of many in the secondary level of SS that I really like. Rutledge, Aybar, Segura, Simmons, Lowrie, Cozart etc.
@Drexel Hill Dragons: It should if he sticks at lead-off… I like him too… Lineup placement is the deciding factor on runs…
@Grey: This seems to be the case of a few players right now with Simmons, Revere, and Aybar all heavily relying on batting at the top of the order to get real fantasy impact from them. I really hope Uncle Charlie doesn’t bat Rollins leadoff and sink Revere down to the 8 hole. Rollins has even admitted it himself, “Yeah, he’s definitely a leadoff hitter, Rollins said of Revere during a sit down with the media at Spring Training in Clearwater, FL.
Yeah, I don’t trust Simmons or Aybar to stay at the top at all…
My dynasty league freezes all transactions a week before auction, so I made a flurry of moves before that deadline. Curious what you think. H2H Points, $125 cap, Auction only – no free agency, players signed to contracts from 1-4 years, value of the contract doubles to re-sign at the end of the contract (e.g.: Player expiring at $1 after 2013 would be $2 in 2014, $4 in 2015, etc)
I traded the left side for the right side in all the deals below:
- Traded Zack Cozart, $1.50 / 3 years FOR Jake Peavy, $3.50 / 1 year
- Dan Haren, $16 / 1 year and Carlos Beltran, $0.25 / 1 year FOR Jose Reyes, $12 / 2 years
- Danny Espinosa, $1.50 / 2 years and Trevor Bauer, $6 / 3 years FOR Rickie Weeks, $6 / 1 year and Hiroki Kuroda, $4 / 1 year
- Jose Bautista, $8.50 / 2 year and Carlos Santana, $0.50 / 1 year FOR Bryce Harper, $1.50 / 1 year and Manny Banuelos, $2.50 / 2 years
- Felix Hernandez, $21 re-sign (would have dropped him) for Trevor Cahill, $3.50 / 1 year
@PujolsJunkie: Looks like you did well…
got an idea, one on one H2H fantasy baseball. You get all positions, no util. 5 SP, no adds, team is locked in. every 2 weeks you re-draft a new team or maybe every week, not sure.
P.S. i’m sober
@Jack Full of Donuts: Ha… Not a bad idea actually.. Could be interesting… If a bit time consuming…
@Grey: what else do i have to do besides eat, porn, poo, razz and FBB. Thats why every two weeks would be good. Would have to be on top of the MLB schedule.
You guys should do a hip hop razzball theme song.

@Jack Full of Hate: Ha… Nice… You had another remix when I did my ESPN NWA post didn’t you?
@Grey: hells yes, that was the whole song, you quoting me
“and with the WAR room, it don’t matter if he’s smarter or better”
doing actual work this morning, can’t do the whole song. *side not* i always go Straight out of LoCash in my head, from CB4 when i think of this song
CB4! Brilliant… Most underrated movie…After Can’t Buy Me Love…
@Grey: saw both in the theater. I still gloss up every time she rides off into the sunset on the back of his lawnmower. CB4 is hands down one of the best satires ever and should be required of all kids before graduating high school.
*side note* I use to chill with Deezer D aka Stab Master Arson at some local coffee house in the mid 90′s when he was on ER
*side note part II* very few people had any idea who he was because he was black.
*side note part III, it’s the last one….seriously* I got nothing just like trilogies
Ha.. Totally… Know another movie that seems to have gotten lost: I’m Gonna Git You Sucka
@Grey: another urban classic
. Some of the blaxploitation references go over peoples head, love Bernie Casey who was great in revenge of the nerds and Spies Like Us. i know more people who know i’m gonna git you more than CB4.
my favorite line from that movie was when clarence williams III charachter said :
“Yes, we marched on the Federal building. Five hundred of us young brothers, full of outrage.
They were hiring that day. The brothers came with guns; they left with jobs. Oh, yes, whitey is very tricky”
HA! Great line… Impressive you’re able to quote it off the top of your head…
@Grey: I wish i was that skilled, i knew the part of it and then grabbed the exact quote off the net *head sinks down*
Ha… No shame in it…
@Jack Full of Hate: A police officer released a rap video on YouTube. Maurice Gattison is the guy’s real name if I recall correctly. Internal affairs is looking into it. The clip that CBS showed had four guys in it and one was swinging a spiked ball. The other three dudes are also cops. LMAO.
(For those not from NJ- Irvington is next to Newark)
@Wallpaper Paterson: thats awesome. here is a local cop who sells gang attire on the side

If Kyle Seager had a moustache would he make the list?
@yummy: Yes (no)…
Hey guys could use so help.. Which combination do you prefer..
Prince/Longo/Adam Jones
Or
Stanton/Longo/Goldschmidt
@Vin: damn that’s difficult. I’d go first one, but I don’t think you can go wrong either way. If it’s a dynasty, I’m going with the second one. How’s that for advice?!
@Wilsonian: Thanks, im having a tough time deciding, not a dynasty though haha.. I think Price/Jones is safer, Stanton/Goldy has so much upside
If i take Stanton, im thinking i could end up with Stanton/Longo/Jones/Goldy.. Would be taking Goldschmidt 40th overall, adp is 53 in yahoo right now
@Vin: Prince/Longo/Jones is safer for sure. But if you could get those four, I’d prefer that. I love me some Goldy this year.
@Vin: @Vin: I’ve been consistently drafting Prince/Longo/Jones in mocks, seems less risky to me than your other option
Yea it’s a lot safer
I am in a 12 person keeper league where I get to keep 12 players. I am trying to figure out my last keeper. 7. Jeff Samardzija or Dylan Bundy?
@Kid ‘n Play: Bundy
Keeper league trade offer, 6×6 including quality starts and doubles:
Do this trade?
I get: Ike Davis and Trevor Plouffe
I give: Todd Frazier and Marco Estrada
I’m leaning towards no but wanted another opinion…thanks!
Not a good trade… BTW, War Room’s back, know it’s a bit late for you now…
@Grey: I rejected the offer and he countered with:
I get: Ike Davis and James McDonald
I give: Jeff Samardzija and Greg Holland
Thoughts?
It’s fair… Depends if you have the closers to fill in for Holland…
@Grey: thanks for all the help Grey!
No worries… It’s fair to take Ike there… I trust him more than Lawrie…
@cruisinkc:
also offered was:
Ike for Lawrie
12-team 6×6 (OBP, QS) H2H league
I am targeting Machado (Razz: 153, ESPN ADP: 187, MDC: 239) in a keeper league where you keep 4 players drafted after the 4th round…How much does his ranking change in a OBP keeper league like this?
I’d rank him about 60 spots higher than I have him…
I am in a 12 team league 7th pick in mock drafts I seem to keep having a choice between Dred Pirate and Pujols. Your taking The Pirate there right?
Yup…
in the 4th round 46th pick for me is where I have been targeting my number one is it a reach there to take Grienke or Bumgardner. Which one do you take? Or should I wait and go 5th round for my number 1 and take like Wainwright or Scherzer?
Wait to the 5th…
@Grey: What type of hitter should I take in the 4th because it seems to go 1.OF 2. 3b(Longo) 3.(Adam Jones ish) 4. maybe Castro at SS?
I don’t know who will be available… Best hitter available? A pitcher if he falls… I wouldn’t get tied up in one or two guys…
@Grey: I gotcha just trying to get a fell maybe just because position scarcity. But thanks for the help and do you guys have RP ranking’s or like a who is going to have the job opening day?

Greycarlo, I need the number of teams in a league to answer these questions… In a 8 team league, this is terrible, in a 20 team league it’s great…
@Grey: 12 team sorry thought I had that down.
No worries… Team looks a little wonky on average, but solid on hitting overall… The pitching is very good… Maybe slightly better than you need…
It’s been a while, but Carnac’s droppin’ names w/ Dirt Nasty.
@Carnac: Gimme a call, Sigourney Weaver.
@Grey: Yup, that’s the exact cougar joke I was getting ready to make.
Hehe
In AL only keeper league, my corner strategy, 2 studs and a scrub. I am keeping Miggy for 46 and Josh Donaldson for $1 then planning on big purchase at 1b. Still waiting for the keeper list to be posted but not sure who I go after but planning on 2 $1 catchers as well to bank cash for a big 1b.
@Seano: Cool…
I’m in the middle of a 5×5 slow draft and have basically punted SPs. I have Felix, Niese, and Estrada. Could you rank the TOP THREE SPs below that would best compliment the three I already have? (Thinking I’m going to need K’s… ) thanks!
Gee
McCarthy
McDonald
Edwin
Garza
Ryu
Lohse
Teheran
Cashner
@Random Collmenter:
And Marcum…
Unless that’s Felix Doubront, you haven’t punted SPs… You don’t need Ks unless this is a 8 team league… I’d follow my pitchers pairings… http://razzball.com/2013-fantasy-baseball-draft-prep-pitchers-pairings/
should i assume from your no comment that the hip hop razzball idea is a sore subject?
Not sure why I missed that…
@Grey: I just realized I come off really insecure, oh please Grey don’t hate me. I never put on a fake mustache and lipstick and listen to ELO’s telephone line.
You better not… It better be a real mustache…
@Grey: in the circles I run with it’s not good to look like a cop, and I really look like a husky cop with a stache.
It’s good to know you are ok with the lipstick and ELO’s telephone line
Yup, totally fine with those…
@Grey: speaking of men who like to wear lipstick, i haven’t seen sky in yet today
He’s reapplying…
I’m done!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMo_HcRBnUY
@Sky: you come quick
I’m a borderline ninja on that front. I’m in and out before anyone even knows it.
@Sky: does your wife have that confused look after sex. “did we just have sex?….sky wake up!”
I like to think of it as a look of amazement for other reasons but your theory is probably closer to truth than mine.
@Sky: she’s like “i came so fast that I never even felt it”
don’t worry, i have been disappointing hookers since 1993, so it could be worse
Ha, Flight of the Conchords is my sexy time music:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGOohBytKTU
@Sky: didn’t even need to watch it, know the song and LOVE IT. i love jemmaine
whats up with football, it says my comment is awaiting moderation
Yeah, I just saw that. I assumed it would go off of email but maybe it goes by username? I don’t think you’ve been Jack Full of Donuts yet in the football world.
@Grey: already wore off the morning coat. It must be good money being a snow bunny in oregon
I’ve been trying to keep up with the FA comings and goings over in the football world. Reggie Bush now in Detroit. PPR delight.
@Sky: say what?
I have been offered Stanton and Desmond Jennings for Longoria and Hosmer.
Should I accept this trade and move Frazier to 3rd?
My team is listed below:
12 team H2H League
C – Jesus Montero
1B- Pujols
2B- Hill
3B – Longoria
ss- Castro
OF- Choo
OF- A Jones
OF- BJ Upton
U- Ike Davis
Bench- Chris Davis, Todd Frazier, Eric Hosmer
P- Bumgarner
P- Chapman
P- Zimmerman
P- Ryu
P- Harvey
P- Milone
P- Street
Bench- Kendrick, Gee, Teheran
I’d take it…
@Grey: Would you take it if it was Stanton for Longoria straight up?
I would…
Grey,
From my above question, gun to your head (Its real this time…maybe that’s why you didn’t respond), which of Headley, Sandoval, and Lawrie would you draft, all things considered equal. Zimmerman could be available in the 4th or 5th but the aforementioned players will likely be available in the 7th. Thanks!
Headley
@Grey:
I was expecting Sandoval to be honest. They have have similar concerns about their power and both play in pitchers parks. Headley gives you more speed but Panda has a longer track record. Would Panda be next for you?
Panda was almost first for me there… He would be 2nd, yeah…
@Grey:
Awesome thanks! I’m starting to think like you…it’s scary
That’s not scary, it’s wonderful… Now hit the forums and answer ten questions for me!
@Grey:
Oh God..I would lose so many more hours a day if I even went in the forums. At least I try to answer some of the Rays related questions haha
Hehe… I hear ya!
I’m trying to figure out my 8th and final keeper in a 10 team 6×6 roto (OPS, Holds) 14 hitters/9 pitchers $260
first seven:
1B Rizzo 2
CI Goldschmidt 4
2B Altuve 4
OF Heyward 10
OF Bruce 18
OF Braun 48
Bench bat – Myers or Machado in a 5 player keeper (only get to keep them for two years, though)?
Machado… Tough call though…
@Grey: yeah, I’m debating on it, too.
Part B: if you could have both, making your bench bats Frazier, Middlebrooks, Machado, and Myers, BUT you would only have Holland, Hanrahan, and Broxton as closers (would have Parnell instead of either Machado or Myers if I had to only pick one), would you do that?
Shallow league, so you know the importance of the wire.
I’d do both for now…
@Grey: sounds good. I’m going that way. Cutting Burnett and Pestano for Machado and Myers. Making waiver claims on them, so we’ll see if I get anything.
Draft 2 H2H 5X5 12 team leagues last week and the top eight 3B were gone by the 5th round. I’m loving me some Zimmer this year. Not in a sexual way yet,but I have a man crush on him.
Had to reach both times in the 3rd round cause 3B’s were going like a fire sale at Wal Mart. How about your 2 drafts ? Were you getting a run on 3B too ? I had him targeted in round 5, but he would never have made it there.
Picked up Frazier in the 19 round.Great value with 1B,3B,OF eligibility. Got Estrada in the 18 round too. I’ve been feelling you (not in a sexual way) on both those guys. Hope they pan out for us.
Listened to your podcast. Good shit man,I enjoyed it.
@Big AL: Thanks! You wouldn’t love Zimmerman if you owned him for the first 3 months last year… But I do like him… Yeah, 3B seems to get ugly in the early rounds fast… Then opens again later with some decent value… Rudy drafted Berkman late twice for us because of the dreck late… I hope Frazier works out too… I really like him and we got him at 3rd in one league…

I need one of the following and can’t decide who:
SS Rutledge 2
3B Lawrie 8
C Molina 6
I calculated 20-25% inflation. Thank you!
@Andrew: Lawrie
@Andrew: I’d actually swap in Rutledge for Altuve, and go with Grey on Lawrie for the last one. But that’s just me. I’d go for the high upside rather than the steady blah-ness of Altuve.
strategy / trade: 10 team, Roto, 5 keeper league
keepers: Votto, Heyward, Castro, Bruce
I think I have an opportunity to trade Pujols for Adam Jones. My reasoning would be to not have a 1B at UTIL because if Goldschmidt is available I want to draft him in round 6. That way I fill another OF spot and keep my extra UTIL spot for any position instead of tying it up by having 3 1B on my roster. Thoughts? Also, in Round 6 / 7 Lawrie and Goldschmidt will probably be available. Would it make sense to not take a SP until round 8 or is that a bad idea?
Our positions: C,1B,2B,SS,3B,4 OF, 2 UTIL, 2SP, 2RP, 3P, 6 BENCH, 1 DL
@harkrider: I have the 7th pick in round 6
Sp in the 8th could work, but I’d want Pujols over Jones…
OK — 12-team H2H Keeper league. I’m defending Champ. We can keep 1 player for every 3 rounds of the draft; there are 26 rounds. I am locked down until the final spot — 26th round. This can be any FA picked up throughout the year. (Actually 25th and 26th rounds can…but Allen Craig is locked in the 25th).
My options are as follows:
Dylan Bundy
Brett Anderson
Fernando Rodney
Carlos Gomez
Manny Machado
Salvy Perez
Emily Boneface
Now, I am keeping Braun (1st) and Adam Jones (6th) in OF; Freese (23rd) and Craig (25th) at CI… Who do I use in the 26th rd? I can keep for three (3) seasons!
Naturally I lean towards Bundy, but he isn’t going to have the immediate impact. I’m smitten with CarGom also… Looking for insight!!
Dave
@dnichols_29
I’d go with Bundy…
Now that i have finished my 15 minutes of actual work today i must reflect on the role of Razzball in my life. When the baby’s mama brought home “the perks of being a Wallflower” and i told her Grey said it was garbage, I got this as a response ” I don’t care what grey thinks. who the f**k is grey anyway” my response ‘ you wouldn’t know a good movie if it sat on your face and wiggled” And don’t even get me started on Sky, she is getting real confused with that one. I have a feeling she would rather have me chat with lonely housewives all day.
Thank you Razzball, you have given me more reasons to fight with my semi-significant other
oh yeah baseball question, Is Altuve roughly at his ceiling? i ask because being in Houston seems like being in Pittsburgh 5 years ago
Glad we could bring some strife into your real world! Altuve is at his ceiling but his ceiling isn’t terrible… 7 HRs, 25 SBs and a .300 average is valuable…
@Grey: absolutely agree with altuve, but i know some think he can go up a level and I just don’t see it.
If razzball was a movie about high school then grey would the hot chick everyone wants, Rudy is the nerdy looking girl that gets hot when she loses the glasses and sky is the girl next door you settle on because of all the memories of her being there
I’ve got a nice smile but cottage cheese thighs.
@Sky: thats why we settle for your low maintenance appeal
It takes me a minute to get dressed and even less to get undressed.
@Sky: you are such a blue collar slut
Maybe but I still won’t sleep with Larry The Cable Guy.
@Sky: i meant you took a blue collar attitude towards sex not that you would bone rednecks
Ha, I know. I was playing with your words. Like cupping them and rolling around a bit in the palm of my hand kind of way.
@Sky: if i ever go to prion, I want you as my cell mate
Why wait? Let’s go on a mattress tag ripping spree at a Sears.
@Jack Full of Donuts: *prison
@Sky: nice Pee Wee ref. we can go on an exposing ourselves spree at a retirement home
There might actually just be a market for that. Full Monty for all the Mildreds of the world.
@Sky: the full monty of middle aged men…blue hairs beware
Rudy’s All That!
@Grey: hehe
@Grey: The Rachael Leigh Cook of fantasy baseball….jeez, i’ll take that. i think in Scooby Doo land that Grey is Daphne, I’m Velma (played by Linda Cardellini), and Sky is Scooby.
Rut-roh.
@Rudy Gamble: would that make Nick the podcast guy as Fred and Tom jacks as Shaggy driving around in the Fantasy Machine
@Rudy Gamble: And JB is Curly from the cartoon Harlem Globetrotters.
Hi Grey
14 man keeper league….
Matty Holliday @ 50 overall or Adam Wainwright @ 78 overall?
Thanks
Holliday
As shocking as it is, Dusty is still debating on whether or not to have Chapman start or close…
@Wilsonian:
the reds are paying the fat boy 4 million bucks to close .
dusty will stick with the veteran .
somebody just probably overheard him talking to himself .
@costaricanchata: haha. Just thought I’d post Dusty being Dusty again. And good to see you back with a new name…
He’s silly…
Grey,
i have a tough question as far as draft strategy that i am thinking about doing in a 17 team 6×5 roto league with the extra offensive category tb+bb for some reason there are not an even categories on hitting and pitching. we don’t draft a bench at all and we address that at a meeting a week after opening night in a blind bidding format. I am thinking about going hitter heavy with standard positions with 1 uti(9 total hitters) and 7 pitching spots (No SP requirements) I am thinking of drafting 9 of my first 11- 12 picks as hitters and then only carrying closers and top end RP’s with extremely good ratios. My thoughts are if i can dominate all hitting categories and saves, ERA, and Whip in pitching i could be looking at a possible 80 hitting points and 50 pitching which in turn averages out to about 12 points per category and should ensure that i am in the mix at the end of the season. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Your strategy makes sense, but is very risky… There’s a lot of turn over with closers and they go from hero to zero very quickly… In that deep of a league, I would draft some decent SPs….
@Grey:
i was going to try and get 2 out of 3 Kimbrel, Motte, Papelbon and maybe one lower tier closer (Wilhemsen, Reed, Grilli) to go along with guys like Kenley Jansen, Ernesto Frieri, Ryan Cook. Drew Storen, Clippard types.
Yeah, and four of six top closers last year were terrible… It’s risky, Travis.
@Grey:
thanks for your input
Looks like Grey was tied up in a corner with gaffer tape over his mouth and a sack over his head during the Friends and Family draft yesterday.
Mmmmpppffff!!! Ggggrrrrffff!!!
5×5 Roto Keeper
Grey-love the site!
Rank SP preference for 2013 value + keeper future? I’ve reviewed your prospects guide which perhaps is a guide to your preference, but keepers can be different value! Assume this is for spot start contributions in 2013.
T Bauer, D Straily, W Peralta, M Fiers, Z Wheeler
Thanks! Bauer, Fiers, Straily, Wheeler…
@Grey: Still haven’t dropped Greinke in your rankings yet? I know you posted your take on the situation the other day but then Greinke admitted even HE isn’t sure he’ll be ready. I’m targeting Bumgarner in the 4th round instead.
Nah, I’m not dropping him yet. If he misses the first 2 weeks of the season, he’s still fine (or at least I keep telling myself since we’ve already drafted him)…
@Grey: Didn’t he have an injury at the beginning of last season too? Hurt himself pretending to play basketball or something?
That wasn’t last year, but that did happen during one of his springs…
Casey Kelly likely to have TJ surgery. What a drag. I’d think that Bass would take his place, at least until Cashner gets stretched out. So not a big loss for FBB, but wtf are padres doing to their pitching prospects? Recommending 90% sliders?
That’s why David Wells wanted to play for them. Bam!
Hey grey. I’m keeping tulo, bruce, freeman, bumgarner, j zimmermann and moore. Im in a h2h category league and have first pick of my draft. The best players not being kept are bj upton, encarnacion, greinke, headley, medlen, craig and matt holliday. I want to go encarnacion or greinke but I feel like I have pretty good pitching and a lot of power from my keeper hitters. Who do you think I should go for with they first pick?
Your pitching is more than fine, don’t draft Greinke… Encarnacion is fine…
you watch worst cooks yet?
I thought it was a good episode
Yeah, I watched it… Solid episode… I’d like Carla to bake me a cake then jump out of it…
@Grey: I really want to have dirty sweaty sex with Rashida…nice curves….gggrrrrrrrrrr
Yeah, and the braces add a nice weird twist…
@Grey: it would be like the sex i never got in high school
Carla would give you sex like you’ve never had ever.
@Grey: maybe if i put on a red wig….come to think of it, we use to get pretty crazy in Long Beach, I might have already been there and she thinks my name is Richard
But she made you shorten Richard?
@Grey: they call me the RICKER!
Hahaha
@Grey: did i pull that from silver spoons? i know that i know it from childhood, just not sure where
With Heyman reporting that 2B belongs to Gyorko, in a standard 12-team league, where are you taking him? Is where you draft him below/above where he should go?
I’d move him up to 13th on the 2nd base rankings…
I have the 10th pick in a 10 team H2H 5×5 Yahoo League. I am fortunate that I get Miggy in the first round due to Keeper rules. With Razzball suggestions and comments and tools and …. won last year’s league. “I’m in the money” — “Show me the money” — oh Adult ADD… SHould I pair Miggy with Encarcion at 3rd pick (3oth overall)? I am thinking Jones in 2nd unless Fielder/Votto fall to me (but I am not counting on that). OR do I wait until 6th round and look at Ike Davis or Billy Butler (not sure where they are falling in Yahoo! drafts). I am not seeing much difference in ability. If not Encarcion, I am looking at the likes of Halliday or Choo in 3rd.
Going for Repeat
Yeah, I don’t mind Encarnacion with Miggy… If Fielder falls, then go with Butler or Davis later…
Just listened to your podcast for the first time. Jesus that was awesome! I Would’ve known that was you dammit!
So my league is messed up. Its been a keeper league forever but now we going dynasty mode. 120 players already are gone so im going young. Who do you like? Im not taking a pitcher 100%. Its yahoo league and profar and bundy are taken. So Taveras, yelich, bogaerts, sano,hamilton, zunino with 8th pick? One team got dissolved with Gio, Golldy,and Headly so i can probably get whoever????????
Grey, not sure if you will read a comment on a post this old but I had a Gyorko question for ya. In our league Gyorko isn’t available in the player pool yet. So after the first game of the season he will show up on waivers and we have a FAAB system. Everyone gets $100. I have Longo at 3B and Kinsler at 2B but I thought it would be smart to have a possible injury replacement should either of those guys get hurt.
My question is, how much of the $100 FAAB would you be willing to spend this early in the season on Gyorko? For reference, when Heyward was called up a few years ago, he went for $100. This is a keeper league btw. Obviously Heyward was/is on a different level than Gyorko.
Anyways, I just really want the jerk on my team!
I’d go to $16…
@Grey: Ok. One thing I forgot to clarify. Players are only on the waiver wire for 5 days immediately following the draft then they are free agents and don’t cost anything. Players dropped by teams are on the waiver wire for 5 days, then are free agents and don’t cost anything. Same with prospects getting their first AB, they hit the waiver wire for 5 days then they are free agents if no one bids on them.
Basically, my FAAB is only spent on dropped players or prospects during the season…and that’s only if I really want them. Sometimes you can take a chance that they will hit free agency without anyone making a bid on them then you get them for free. Does that up your FAAB bid on Gyorko any?
@Grey: BTW, thanks for the quick reply and thanks for having a kickass fantasy baseball site. This is the first year that I’ve run across your website (what took me so long???) and not only is it informative, it is entertaining. Something some other fantasy baseball sites try to do…but almost always fail.
So…I salute you…
Thanks for the kind words!
It wouldn’t change anything, you don’t need him but if he’s cheap enough you take him…
@Grey: Gotcha. Makes sense. You’re like the angel on my right shoulder and my former fantasy self is the devil on my left shoulder. Thanks again!
