12 Team Mixed League Recap
This was a fantasy baseball league put together by the FSWA, Fantasy Sports Writers Association. (Grey is in the FSWA and Rudy is unlicensed. Hopefully they don’t kick out Grey for hiring non-union labor.) We drafted this league together, which made for some disagreements in our two styles of drafting. That was quickly mended when we realized it was only a 12 team league and we could get a stacked team no matter how many top chefs were cooking in this quickfire challenge.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
First off, this league is 5×5 with SLG and OBP instead of HRs and Average. We put up a bit of a fight to have that changed, but our protests fell on deaf ears. With those two category changes, it makes our Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn selections even purdier. Put them up to the light; they shine! It doesn’t help the Inge selection that much, but a bit.
We selected eleventh overall and Miguel Cabrera almost made it to us in the first round after Manny Ramirez was taken 4th and Jimmy Rollins was taken 6th. As confusing as Manny was in the 4 slot, it wasn’t as confusing as Rollins over Howard, Miggy, Braun, Utley and Sizemore.
Pitchers flew off the board in this league. To give you an idea, Nolasco, Beckett, Billingsley and Lackey all went in the 6th round. (This was after Lackey’s injury had surfaced.) We decided to go with the upside of Kazmir and F-Her. (Note: We drafted Devine prior to the injury announcement.)
All told, we drafted 5 Mariners. Sucky guys on sucky teams is the new black! Luckily, Endy Chavez was not one of the drafted Mariners. (When Don Wakamatsu named Brandon Morrow the closer, we dropped two of our Mariners. Betcha you can guess which two.)
Our team is well-balanced with power and speed. And we have Felipe Lopez, what’s not to love? Our pitching is riskier than either of us would’ve preferred, but neither of us wanted to get caught up in a run with pitchers flying off the shelves that early. In a 12 team league, we should be able to fix potential pitching holes with waiver wire pickups.

This has been a great addition to the blog.
Seeing what your teams look like along with all the blogs and replies to comments helps to fill in the blanks and I don’t have to say, “Huh?” as often.
It also looks like this this recent team ’s draft was a lot easier for you to get what you wanted.
I never realized what a challenge roto was until the past two RCL teams.
My name is BSA and I am a recovering H2H with strangers fantasy baseball junkie. Thank you Razzball and Rotisserie for kicking me in the teeth.
@BSA: Thanks! I tend to think no one really cares what our teams look like, but I promise the people that are running the leagues that I’ll make at least one post talking about them.
April 7th, 2009 at 11:26 am
@Grey:
I see the business side of that, from their perspective because I am sure out of the total number of commenters and lurkers your audience fits right into their target market and they get some new business from you posting your team.
I would imagine there are others out there in fantasy land that like seeing how you draft in different situations.
Kind of like it would be a wicked pissah to have one of your razzball league players on my RCL team. Could make for a long season…..
April 7th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Your offense could be silly good. I like how you don’t overbuy for CI’s, Catchers, but take what the draft gives you. The pitching staff is really sketchy but you’d have offense to burn to the other teams. And you could sell one of your closers easily enough.
@Frank Rizzo: Yeah, I could definitely see a scenario where we trade a closer.
April 7th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
Wow, I ended up with Napoli, Inge, Howard, Felipe Lopez, Cameron Maybin, Fred Lewis, Colby Rasmus, Felix Hernandez, Brandon Morrow, Max Scherzer in a league with the same position categories as this league. Quite interesting to see a team with so many common players as my team.
April 7th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
@Grey: IMHO, it’s great to see what your teams look like.
Brings PEDS etc to life.
It’s where the Razzball rubber meets the road, if you will.

@Spaceman.Spiff: Great minds think alike.
@Doug Ault: That video is almost as bad as watching Rodney.

Presenting your FSWA Advisor, Matthew Berry!
April 7th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
@Grey: IowaCubs tried to trade me Rodney like I was some sort of rookie. I showed him and took Marmol instead.
@p0rk burn: Always a step ahead of everyone.
April 7th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
You apparently proved yourselves wrong, as that team is in no way “stacked.” You have injury risks, guys with questionable playing time issues or who you are trusting to rebound, and overrated pitchers galore.
And this was in only a 12 team league?
April 7th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
anybody watching the bosox rays game? I can’t see it live, how does Shields look? I just know he was getting pounded.
April 7th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
@Zebo: 92 pitches in 5 innings, I’d say he’s looking strangely Kazmirish.
@Reality: I suppose stacked is a relative term but going from NL/AL only and 15 team mixed leagues to 12 team definitely gave us that feeling. You don’t think our offense looks stacked for a 12 team league using OBP and SLG (no AVG and HR)? We have Ryan Howard, Carlos Beltran, Quentin, and Dunn with enough speed in the lineup to compete. Not seeing any major playing time issues or injury risks either aside from Chipper (which is why we drafted Reynolds as well).
No argument that our pitching is vulnerable. We’ve got 2 great closers in Papelbon and Broxton. F-Her/Kazmir are a good 1-2 whose ERA/WHIP can be helped by the closer duo. Is Kazmir a risk? A little I suppose but all starters have risk (you want to argue that Kazmir has more risk than Lincecum and Hamels?) Bedard is more of a risk but great upside if he can stay healthy. Wolf, Wandy, and Kawakami provide 6 solid starters that, combined with the bullpen, should keep us competitive in Wins/Ks/SVs and decent in ERA/WHIP.
We’ll see how the league goes. I’ve felt a lot better about past teams that ended up getting rocked….
April 7th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Tiny Time gone after 3 – what’s up with that?
@Zebo: It’s on in the background. He’s given up a few balls that just dropped in… Hasn’t looked awful. He will probably be glad to be out of Bawston though.
@Steve: Too many pitches.
April 7th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
@Grey: So will Carlos Pena. Awful!
April 7th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
@Grey: Ah. Forgive me – last year he would have been good for at least 60 more
April 7th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
@BigFatHippo: Fire up your stat-tracker…
April 7th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
@Grey: I find these really interesting. Good to compare strategies, etc. I’m interested to see you so heavily invested in Reynolds this year, for example. Money, meet mouth.
Also, again with the top closer in the first few rounds! I’m guessing you took Paps in the 4th! Cannot condone.
I do like the 100-homer Belt-Quent-Donkey OF, though.
@Reality: Show me a team with no injury risks, no guys with questionable playing time issue, no guys you are trusting to rebound, and no overrated pitchers, and I will show you a 6-team mixed league.
You’ve laid the gauntlet, Captain One Comment, now show us your roster.
April 7th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
@BigFatHippo: Beckett looks niiiiiice. Oh hold on let me take off my Sawx glasses.
Nope, that wasn’t it, he still looks niiiiice.
8Ks after 6 IP.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Rudy’s a big believer in a top closer, so we went with it. I believe in the guys I push on the rest of you; Reynolds is no different.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
@Steve: Just goes to show, one day does not a season make. I knew what I was getting into when I put him and the Prince of Whiff on the same team. Hippo, you have no right to complain.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
@Grey: You awarded yourselves the Paps Blue Ribbon.
Thankfully, with the 4th pick overall, the Fighting Fanta Pants selected Mr. David Wright, thus ending any internal dissension about the draftability of Mary Reynolds.
But y’all more or less sold me on the “poor man’s Chris Davis” argument.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
@BigFatHippo: I’m going to have an ulcer within the next 100 games with this ESPN Fantasycast.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Mark, not Mary.
Freudian.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
How am I supposed to show you my roster? I am not in the league. It’s not a standard 5×5 league either, so my telling you about the teams I’m fielding wouldn’t mean squat. Maybe the three monster OFs were overkill, when you’re fielding Mark Reynolds who was benched in favor of Tony Clark at CI, have Fred Lewis at UTIL, and Colby Rasmus as the one bench player in case Chipper gets hurt or someone else loses playing time?
The relieving corps has two studs who I see people overpay for in every draft, when guys like Qualls are going dirt cheap, and a whole bunch of garbage. In the case of Devine, probably Tommy-John’ed garbage. It’s not like people haven’t known about injury issues and Devine for a while. Investing in Detroit and Mariner relivers seems like a bad idea. But, who knows. Maybe Chad Cordero will recapture the magic.
I like the starting pitching, but with so many pitching options this year, I keep looking back at the offense.
I don’t have a crystal ball, and I could be dead wrong (hell, I am often enough). Just my two cents.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
@BSA: Yahoo seems easier to follow, could be just cause I’m used to it. I’ll give ESPN some time but with a name like Fantasycast, I expected a fully stocked mini-bar and a casting couch………….
April 7th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
@BigFatHippo: Ooh that! I thought I called down to the front desk to restock the bar. I’ll get right on that.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Maybe I can interview Mary Reynolds on my casting couch?
April 7th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
I agree that Stattracker is MUCH better than Fantasycast. Isn’t that something you wear after Chris Ray gets shelled on opening day?
April 7th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
This Mary Reynolds? http://www.splitting-images.com/the_queen.html
April 7th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
@Doc: Eh, maybe I’ll see it next year when I do more teams.
I still need to watch how the roto points move and relate to stats.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Free is always better than not free.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
@Reality Redux: In your league, who do you target at the tail-end of the draft? Sure, it would be nice to draft Pujols, Utley, Hanley and Wright in the first few rounds, then fill your team out with top-flight starters and rock-solid relievers. But it’s my experience that it’s hard to avoid gambles, risks and longshots once the cream’s been skimmed.
Point is, it’s easy to look at another person’s team and say, “This was a bad choice, that’s stupid, this guy sucks, that guy will get injured.” But it seems your criticism boils down to: The bullpen is shaky — except for the two studs. The offense looks wobbly — except the stacked OF. And you like the starting pitching.
You can always post your roster from whatever kind of league you play in, if you’re looking for reciprocal opinions. Unless it’s fantasy jai-alai. Trust me, no one hear knows the first thing about jai-alai, as I have learned through bitter experience.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
@Freak: Free is the key!
April 7th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
@Baron Von Vulturewins:
Here, hear.
Everybody drink!
April 7th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
@Doc: Ugghhh!
She’s working at the front desk right now as I’m stuck at Ft LostInthewoods. Maybe if the mini-bar is stacked she’ll appear that way too.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
I forgot I paid for Stattracker last year. I have it now, but maybe it will run out sometime soon.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
@Doc: I think it’s free for the first couple of weeks.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
“In your league, who do you target at the tail-end of the draft?”
Not Fred Lewis, Mariners and Detroit Relievers, or guys who have elbow issues before spring training even starts.
Sure, it would be nice to draft Pujols, Utley, Hanley and Wright in the first few rounds, then fill your team out with top-flight starters and rock-solid relievers.”
It’s not hard to find solid relievers, even on a free agent wire. And if you have take three stud OFs early, you’re stuck with The Riot at SS and Mark Reynolds at 3B, and if Chipper Jones goes down, your infield is basically Ryan Howard and a bunch of stiffs.
“Point is, it’s easy to look at another person’s team and say, “This was a bad choice, that’s stupid, this guy sucks, that guy will get injured.””
I don’t think your team sucks. I think it’s good. But it certainly isn’t “stacked,” and I question some of your draft targets. Don’t take it personally. I’ve had a lot of drafts that the day after, I look at and go: “this not only isn’t as good as I thought, it sucks.”
“But it seems your criticism boils down to: The bullpen is shaky — except for the two studs. The offense looks wobbly — except the stacked OF. And you like the starting pitching.”
Yup. And I think you could have corrected if you’d focused less on starting pitching, which this year is very deep sleeper-wise.
“You can always post your roster from whatever kind of league you play in, if you’re looking for reciprocal opinions.”
Nobody knows who I am (although I have three whole posts now, yay), so nobody gives a shit about my drafts. You, on the other hand, are Razzball writers!
April 7th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
@Doc: @Steve: April 19. If you buy it in one league it’s good for every league. Provided they’re all Yahoo of course.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Oy, yes, I’m the one who believes in the top closer.
@Reality Redux:
It’s overpaying for top closers if you think they are only good for saves. Re: Qualls, he is MUCH worse than Papelbon. Pap has been at about 0.95 WHIP the past 3 years, Qualls is more like 1.20. Pap is a bet for 2.00 ERA. Qualls more like 4.00. Figure they each go 60 IP and we’ll give starters 200 IP. These differences equate to a SP-equivalent difference of 0.60 ERA and 0.08 WHIP. In a 12 team league, that’s worth about 1.5 points in ERA/WHIP points before you get into how much riskier Qualls is vs. Pap (i’d say he’s a 50/50 shot to get 25 saves) and the higher K’s. But I’m the minority on this site this one…everyone else likes to dabble in crap closers. Definitely workable (if less beneficial to ERA/WHIP) in 10-12 team but could kill your team in 15+ leagues (where the FA wire is picked dry)
We’ll see with Mark Reynolds…i have a feeling Tony Clark isn’t the full season solution and Tracy is a big injury risk. Still seeing 30/10 from him. Fair enough on Devine…took him in the crappy closer rounds…already dropped Cordero (this was before Morrow)….
You think Fred Lewis is a bad UTIL? What leagues do you play in? He’s hitting 3rd for SF, stole 21 bases last year, and is decent for OBP (~ .350). And I am bullish on Colby’s power/speed combination. If he isn’t playing enough by the time our first injury hits, we’ll pick up someone else….
Thanks for chiming in….hope the defense of our team had at least some helpful nuggets….
April 7th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
@Reality Revisited: Ooooh, snap! Now we’re all interested. Post your team in the forums and you too can become a Razzball writer.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
When did Hippo become a razzwriter?
April 7th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
@Freak: Hehe, I play one on TV.
Overkill point on why anyone who thinks that taking a top closer always amounts to overpaying:
Frankenpitcher 1: 289 IP / 3.58 ERA / 1.25 WHIP / 250 Ks
Frankenpitcher 2: 260 IP / 3.78 ERA / 1.26 WHIP / 239 Ks
Frankenpitcher #1 is 2008’s Brandon Webb and Brian Wilson
Frankenpitcher #2 is 2008’s Jonathan Papelbon and Randy Wolf
An ace closer can turn a scrub starter’s ERA/WHIP/Ks into nearly the same as when your Ace is sullied by your scrub closer. Webb was a 3rd round pick last year. Papelbon more like 5th/6th. B Wilson was drafted. Wolf was undrafted.
April 7th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
@Rudy Gamble: Rudy i would like to say “TOUCHE” on that one… I am a firm believer in NOT taking a closer like PAPELNUTS early, but the arguement you bring to the table is solid…
I just can’t find myself passing on Kemp/markakis/quentin/ETC for papelbon! excuse me PAPELNUTS….
i guess its whatever helps you sleep at night…
April 7th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
How about Beckett, SOLID…. and i bench shields, not that hard a decision, but still, gotta ge those innings in my league.
God i hate rooting for the red sox to win! LOL i need to trade beckett for someone else studly….
April 7th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
I like this Frankenpitcher game. I think I’ll play (I’m going to ignore wins and saves).
Frankenpitcher 1: 274.3 innings pitched, 268 Ks, 3.35 ERA, 1.10 WHIP.
Frankenpitcher 2: 221.2 innings pitched, 243 Ks, 3.133 ERA, 1.17 WHIP
Frankenpitcher 2 was assembled from pitchers who are being taken way too early in drafts, Papelbon and Kazmir, and frankenpitcher 1 is from the typically undervalued Brian Fuentes and Ricky Nolasco, both of whom represent good risk/reward possibilities this year.
So … assuming everyone does pretty much what they did last year, these frankenpitchers seem fairly equal to me. Sure, there’s a bit of a drop-off in K-rate, but pitchers are always injury risks, and I could avoid having Mark Reynolds and Fred Lewis anchoring my power positions.
April 7th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
@Tony Y: Bite your tongue until it bleeds Boston Red.
@Reality Redone: We drafted Papelbon #59 and Kazmir #86. So we missed out on Abreu and Ryan Zimmerman. Would definitely trade Lewis and Reynolds for those two but prefer those as options vs. the pitchers around when we picked up Reynolds and Lewis (George Sherrill and Mike Pelfrey).
As for your Frankenpitcher, that would be great except:
1) Everyone in the league is looking at waivers for a hot pitcher.
2) No one drafted Nolasco last year. He was picked up after several solid starts showed he was worth owning. So taking Nolasco’s whole year is complete fiction.
3) If you are that good at spotting breakout pitchers, then you should wait until the end.
4) Nolasco was drafted #72 – 14 picks before Kazmir.
5) I predict Nolasco’s spends significant time on the DL b/c he throws so many goddamn breaking pitches. Riskier in my eyes than Kazmir.
April 7th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
I find it fascinating Nolasco went ahead of Kazmir. Clearly looking at the entire draft would benefit any reasoned analysis.
Your telling me that Nolasco could have been picked up for free supports my position, not yours. In any event, I think I made my point . . . though I can’t remember now what it was originally
This pseudonym will now be retired.
@Tony Y: I wouldn’t pass on Kemp/markakis/quentin for Paps either! Honestly, this is the first time i’ve drafted him. At #59 I think he’s a better value than the SPs that were on the board at the time. I do like to get at least one top 5 closer though just as a solid saves + ERA/WHIP foundation. I’ve got Lidge in a 15 team league. Still pissed I got outbidded for Lidge (and ended up with Cordero in my NL league).
April 7th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
@BSA: LOL I hate boston!!!!! CLEVELAND FAN! But fantasy wise i’ll root for beckett all day long!
April 7th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
@Rudy Gamble: LOL ya they probaly weren’t there in a 15 teamer, we cant all play in 6 teamers like reality redone
April 7th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
@Tony Y: Yeah, I’d be pissed too if I was a fan of the Indians. HA!
Cleveland Rocks!
April 7th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Yahoo saying that Motte likely to get the day off today…
April 7th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
@Reality Revisited: Hmmm, not my team. Just an interested commentator.
People post their rosters on here all the time. Go look in the forums — it’s true! You will even find my 12-team roster, which is ABSOLUTELY MONSTROUS. Not a single hole.
Truly stacked.
Stack. Ed.
@Rudy Gamble: I enjoyed Frankenpitcher. I do admit that the “Don’t pay for saves” school is now overcrowded, and thus suspect.
The offensive options this year in rounds 4,5, and 6 — i.e. the Fancy Closer rounds — were uninspiring to me, for the most part. I took (respectively)(and respectfully) Peavy, A. Ramirez, and C-Bills in those rounds.
But when people talk about “loading up” on offense and taking pitching in rounds 10 and later, I don’t quite understand how that works. Jacoby Ellsbury in Round 4, or AGonzo in Round 5, or Furcal in Round 6 hardly seem like slam-dunks — not so much so that they absolutely necessitate passing on pitchers, even closers, in those rounds.
April 7th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
@BSA: I can’t tell sarcasm or “cleveland rocks” LOL
I dont think the injuns have a chance this year as much as it pains me to say, but Hopefully Lebron can bring home a title, its the cavs or nothing right now!
April 7th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
@Tony Y: Sorry can’t support you there either – Go Green!
April 7th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Anybody starting Chris Young tonight vs the Astros? He finished spring looking really bad…
April 7th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
@Josh: I’m waiting on Young until he shores things up. He plays the Dodgers.

April 7th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Lyon looks like shit. Not as much like shit as the tigers defense (I just saw Magglio take 4 steps forward on a hard hit line drive over his head, then run back and barely catch it. made a routine catch look like a web gem).
April 7th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Ian snell is getting shelled razztastic!
April 7th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Yadier Molina just hit a homer off a guy named Donnie Veal who should be pitching for Manatee Community College.
Is it safe to say that Veal needs to be taken out of the pen?
@BKK: Ha!
@Yanks Farm?: Not surprising.
@Eric W: See comment to Yanks Farm?
@BigFatHippo: To the slaughterhouse.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
@Grey: JP Howell, Nunez, Downs, Arredondo, Zumaya.
Rank em please, and thank you.
@BigFatHippo: Downs, Arredondo, Nunez, Howell, Zumanity.

April 7th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
@grey
Loney and Dukes are both available. Should I drop Nelson Cruz for one? which?
btw – loved that fake Dukes convo in the dugout…
April 7th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
@Grey: To be stuck with these options, oh the humanity!
Waited too long for closers, guess that’s what I get.
@madx34: Hehe
@albertalbert: Nope and thanks!
April 7th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
@Rudy …..Lidge —solid?? since when?
the dude was GREAT last year according to his 48 for 48 or whatever not counting all star game…but for 3 yrs prior i must say the first term that comes to mind is BRAIN FREEZE
April 7th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
@BigFatHippo: bedard looked great for 4,got the win and k`s,got tired but i like what i see for a late flier with upside
April 7th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
@Grey: Just goes to show – you can never trust anyone called Lyon.
Too soon to drop his sorry ass though, right?
@Steve: Wouldn’t drop him, but I would bench him for a few until we see Rodney avoid his first implosion.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
@BigFatHippo: @Grey: To be fair, he was relaying the bids to me, so he got distracted.
The drinking? That’s his own fault.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
@Grey: It’s a warped reality where you’re moving Lyon you the bench (sigh) and Sherrill into a roster spot.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
@Steve: Lyon TO the bench…
April 7th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
@Steve: I got his twin – go sit down and get me my cigarettes.
***Miguel Batista is getting the save.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
@Steve: ive got motte in both leagues hope he pans out or ill be lyon him down to..
April 7th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Batista relieved Morrow.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Between two teams, I’ve got Nunez, Lyon, Morrow, and Okajima. Somehow I thought typing that out would make me feel better, but it just made it worse. I wonder if it would make me feel better to find out their combined stats for the day…
April 7th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
@Doc: Looks like Morrow walked the sacks full. That’s not good. Batista’s in now.
I say Morrow lives to close to… morrow.
April 7th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
yeah spoke to soon on the bedard win,,come on batista
April 7th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
@ Grey
i would like to add my first request to RAZZBALL Definitions. I play a ton of softball and our big cleanup hitter is a usually reliable Puerto Rican dude. Of Course he isn’t a 100% reliable and when swinging for the all so glorious fences he pops up to short quite a bit which unleashes a very loud and echoing…. “AWWWWW C”MONNNNN!!”
(way before it became an ESPN commercial.)
I would like to submit —-
“AWWWWW C”MONNNNN!!” as the definition for when you have a top fantasy pick in position to spew great fantasy success and in return you get a total kick in the nads failure…….eg. beltran hits into infield fly rule with pop up to third with bases loaded and one out—–”AWWWWW C”MONNNNN!!”
April 7th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
@AL KOHOLIC: Oh, snap.
**By the time I added Batista to all of my teams, he blew the save. Ha!
@madx34: Hmm… Not totally sold.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
@Steve: Too late. The damage has already been done
April 7th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
@Baron Von Vulturewins: i was thinking of another choice word but yeah
April 7th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
gotta love being doubly screwed over by Morrow and Lyon on the same day…i wonder if they called each other before their games to make sure they were on the same page?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
@Grey….next time u see fantasy production go by the wayside—make sure u don’t think ”AWWWWW C”MONNNNN!!”
April 7th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
hey morrow is striking out over 1 per inn.pitched
April 7th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
The Napoli situation is getting annoying.. drop him in a 12 team one catcher league for someone like Navarro or Salty? I like Napoli better but if he’s going to split with Mathis like this I’d rather grab Navarro.
@Garrett: Go Salty.
April 7th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Oh – I am rather liking Haren as a 5th round pick in my H2H league right now…
April 7th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
@Steve: i was just admiring that stat line,,tried getting him from roob,might offer a 2nd bagger
April 7th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Grey. Did you really grab Batista?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Okay, so Inge and his C eligibility are starting to look sexy in my 14-team mixed. I fear the night will end and either him or Nomar are gonna get picked up. Also, would you think me stupid if I started playing Kendry Morales over Adam LaDouche at least until the end of April?
April 7th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Is Franklin worth owning over Lyon now?..Or should I just sit on Lyon?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Rotowire is suggesting that Jim Johnson will be setting up for Sherrill now after one bad outing…you think? Is he worth hanging onto? I know the Baron dropped him, I was going to wait but the are other things I’d like to do and Ray is kind of crampin’ my style. I’d hate to give up on him after one bad outing against the Yankees.
Thoughts anyone?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
@Grey: is Carlos Lee a historically slow starter? He is o fer 8. My offense yesterday: 5 for 21. Today: 4 for 24. Great.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Poor effort from Wolf in PETCO. Boooo!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
@Steve: ya but Chris Young looked good besides the fact that he has the ugliest delivery in the majors.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
@Zebo: These early days are tough watching as you look at this miserable stat lines. Carlos started out 1 for 8 last year and a bunch of 1 for 4’s before he started to get it going. He is a pretty consistent .300 hitter so don’t sweat it.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Is Miguel Batista a legit add? It’s a 14-team holds league and I have Brett Gardner, Lyon, and Swisher as my most expendibles.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
@Zebo:
Lee is a stud.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
@BKK: You mean Chris Ray? Yeah, he’s droppable in all but the super-deepest leagues. He may yet close down the line but that will be several Sherrill meltdowns from now.
@BKK: It’s 0-fer-8. Don’t sweat it. If he went hitless in two games in July you wouldn’t even notice.
Two words, people: Edwin. Jackson.
If I hadn’t dropped Ray for Mr. Good Face yesterday, I’d be dropping him for E-Jax today.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Ya, sorry kinda made that confusing, yes Chris Ray. I guess, he’s just a Mr. B.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I mat regret it tomorrow, but I just dropped Ray for Uehara. He can pitch against the Nats, we’ll see how he does against the Yanks. Feel free to ridicule, but I just can’t get into another DET pitcher. Already have Verlander…eeeeeeeeeeccccchh!
April 7th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
uh… how does heath bell not come in to close it out for SD? anyone watching that game?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
nevermind. i’m an inning behind. doh.
April 7th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Inge, you guys like him? Interesting case. He made some adjustments to swing in off season. He hits better when he plays at 3B, which he will be at all year I think. He didn’t like going from catcher to 3b last year. This stuffs is just from stuffs I’ve read. What say you? you like him over Hernandez or Shoppach? What do you see him topping out at?
@RT: I grabbed Batista at the expense of no one in particular, then he blew the game. Such is the life of the save vulture.
@Yanks Farm?: I’d play Morales over LaRoche.
@john: I’d take Franklin over Lyon.
@BKK: Ray’s eh right now. Johnson’s not much better though.
@cubbies299: Eh, Batista’s pretty terrible too.
@JavaBeanHead: Inge is terrible outside of 2 catcher leagues. I like the two you mention more.
April 7th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
@Grey: done..hopefully he’ll do better than Lyon’s 27.00 ERA, with not even a K to hang his hat on
April 8th, 2009 at 6:55 am
@john: Thank god for the Corpas hold… I thought I was gonna get the “revenge of the guys passed over for closer job” implosion…
April 9th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
I’ve got that sinking feeling on Chris Davis. Holy hell, I knew he’d come with a lot of K’s but there were supposed to be some hits mixed in too. He’s probably headed to my bench until I see improvement and if he’s not careful, he’ll be headed to the bench in Texas too.
@Frank Rizzo: It’s still early, but remember this guy K’d more than Dunn in the minors. (Without the walks.)
