Welcome, Bar patrons, to another weekend edition of the Two-Start Dive Bar! Getting ready for the upcoming week? I know I am. Let’s take a look together at this week’s double dippers!

The Top Shelf

Pitcher First Start Second Start
Shane McClanahan, TB DET(MO) @BAL(SU)
Luis Severino, NYY @BAL(MO) CHW(SA)
Jameson Taillon, NYY @BAL(TU) CHW(SU)
Zack Wheeler, PHI SD(TU) LAD(SU)
Nathan Eovaldi, BOS HOU(MO) SEA(SA)
Yusei Kikuchi, TOR SEA(MO) CIN(SU)
Steven Matz, STL @NYM(TU) @PIT(SU)

Notes

  • Shane McClanahan is the clear-cut best play this week. Not only is he co-leading all of MLB in strikeouts, but he gets the Tigers and the Orioles this week, two of the three lowest-scoring offenses in baseball. Rack ‘im up, no question.
  • Yankees teammates Luis Severino and Jameson Taillon also get the Orioles this week, then a home series against the White Sox, who, while on an upswing, still are scoring in the bottom 3rd of MLB.

The Well

Pitcher First Start Second Start
Cal Quantrill, CLE CIN(TU) DET(SU)
Reid Detmers, LAA @TEX(MO) OAK(SU)
Tylor Megill, NYM STL(MO) @COL(SU)
Jesus Luzardo, MIA WSH(MO) ATL(SU)
Chris Archer, MIN @OAK(MO) @KC(SU)
Jose Urquidy, HOU @BOS(MO) TEX(SU)
Miles Mikolas, STL @NYM(MO) @PIT(SA)
Logan Gilbert, SEA @TOR(TU) @BOS(SU)
Brad Keller, KC CHW(MO) MIN(SU)

Notes

  • Cal Quantrill’s home-and-home against league average Cincy and league worst offense Detroit is a pretty good play this week, but be careful: he’s still Cal Quantrill.
  • Don’t think we can expect another no-hitter from Reid Detmers, but throwing him out there this week against Oakland and league average Texas seems like a good play. I’d do it. I would.

The Bar Mat

Pitcher First Start Second Start
Merrill Kelly, ARI @LAD(TU) @CHC(SU)
Tanner Houck, BOS HOU(TU) SEA(SU)
Ian Anderson, ATL @MIL(MO) @MIA(SU)
Martin Perez, TEX LAA(MO) @HOU(SA)
Vince Velasquez, CHW @KC(MO) @NYY(SU)
Kyle Bradish, BAL NYY(MO) TB(SU)
Taylor Hearn, TEX LAA(TU) @HOU(SU)
Madison Bumgarner, ARI @LAD(MO) @CHC(SA)
Chris Flexen, SEA @TOR(MO) @BOS(SA)
Bryse Wilson, PIT @CHC(MO) STL(SU)
Aaron Sanchez, WSH @MIA(MO) @MIL(SU)
Wily Peralta, DET @TB(MO) @CLE(SU)
Antonio Senzatela, COL SF(MO) NYM(SU)

Notes

  • I don’t think many of these guys would even be on your radar this week, but if they are: don’t do it, man.
  • Just don’t.

Hi Steve,

Any thoughts on:

1. Should I start Mike Mikolas of St. Louis at the Mets? I was leaning yes. Thoughts?

2. Would you start Tyler Anderson of the Dodgers at home against AZ?

3. Would you start Cristian Javier of Houston at home against Texas?

Thanks!

Thanks for this Steve.

It looks like Freddy P. may be starting twice? At least according to Yahoo. Atlanta and Wash. If so, I would imagine he would be a Top Shelf?

Thanks.

Jesus Luzardo just hit the IL too today. Dropped him for Mad Max Meyer – hoping the Marlins call him up.
