Just a quickie this week with a three-day week thanks to the All-Star break (maybe four if you count the one game day).  I hope you are all feeling recharged and ready to lock in for the final TEN weeks in the Razzball Commenter Leagues.  With no baseball scores to check obsessively, many managers looked to make some trades this past week.  We had a whopping FOURTEEN deals processed this week.  We also had some impressive numbers put up in just three days.  We’ll look at that and take a quick look around the RCL universe for the week that was, week 17.

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Not a lot of movement in the short week, but The Itch was the biggest gainer, with five points and the best week in the league.  The Itch is now 12 points up on Mike.  B_don was the biggest loser this week, dropping 5.5 points and falling one spot to fifth.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Alright, we’re officially in playoff/cutline mode in the Razzslam!  If you weren’t top five in your league, see you next year.  Our championship bracket resets, but a percentage of regular season points carry over.  Still, we have a new overall leader in Matt Cardinal.  I managed to sneak into the top ten thanks to a three homer game from Hunter Goodman on Sunday.  Maybe I can bring one home for Team Razzball!  I’ve got the top 25 shown here for reference:

The first round will be from weeks 17-19, and I think the top 30 from the Championship Tier make it to the next round, but don’t quote me on that, I can never remember.  But I do know the top five from the WC tier make it to the next round.  Here are the current WC standings:

I know there is a cutdown to 20 teams for the final round (top 18 in Championship and top two in WC).  I guess we’ll see what happens in two weeks!

TRADES

All the trades that have gone down in the past week.  Public ridicule is not only allowed, but encouraged.

RCL 19 completed their tenth trade. ECFBL had their first two deals; there are now eight leagues with zero trades.

None of these deals look too outrageous outside of Jazz for Luis Arraez…what the heck is with that?

WEEKLY LEADERS

The best of the best from the week that was.

R – 35 – Taylor’s Team (RCL 24) & Danfucious (Crab Army)

HR –15 – Danfucious (Crab Army)

RBIs – 40 – VORP (RCL 13)

SB – 10 – Ted’s Splended Splinters (The LHC), Hometown Hero (RCL 8), & don’t give a shift (RCL 22)

AVG – .372 – PuunDeck (RCL 17)

K – 67 – BroadwayG (RCL 6)

W – 6 – cubbiehead (RCL 25)

SV –  5 – Retro Vertigo (RCFBL) & password is taco (RCL 7)

ERA (Min. 15 IP) – 0.00 – Team Money (Caught Looking) (in 15 IP)

WHIP (Min. 15 IP) – 0.40 – Team Money (Caught Looking)

15 dingers and 10 steals in a three day week is pretty wild.  I’m going to guess some Hunter Goodman was involved in the 15 homer team.  Love to see a zero ERA sneak in with the bare minimum IP cutoff!  Unfortunately, this won’t count towards the weekly records.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: VORP

League: RCL 13

Stats:   AVG: .298, R: 33, HR: 12, RBI: 40, SB: 9

IP: 34.1, ERA: 2.62, WHIP: 1.107, K: 47, W: 2, SV: 1

Summary: Short week TOW is still a TOW and honestly, that’s a pretty sweet three day run.  Drake Baldwin was 10 for 14 (.714) with five runs, three home runs, eight runs batted in, and one stolen base (which would have been pretty good for a 7-day week) to pace the offense. Wilyer Abreu had consecutive 2-homer days and drove in six while hitting .357. Esmerlyn Valdez added a couple long balls while Casey Schmitt and Jackson Chourio chipped in a pair of steals each. Jake Bennett threw six shutout innings and allowed just two baserunners in earning a victory to lead the pitching staff. Shane Drohan also picked up a win, striking out nine along the way. Peter Lambert (10 strikeouts) and Troy Melton (9 Ks) had excellent outings. Gage Jump struck out eight, but lasted only 3 and 2/3 innings. Riley O’Brien contributed the lone save.  The awesome three day stretch added 6.5 points to their league total and moved them up from 4th to 2nd.  Nice work!
