The halfway mark lit a fire under some teams, and we had our biggest trading week of the year.  To borrow from Mr. Pants, ELEVEN, trades this week.  I know I started looking at teams way ahead in certain categories, lacking in others, and sent out some feelers.  VinWins broke down the trade numbers for some extra insight into the minds of RCLers (shudder).  We had 11 trades this week involving 36 players! That brings our season total to 77 with 221 players, 150 of them unique.  Bo Bichette was traded twice this week – three times for the season.  Max Meyer, Yamamoto, and Nolan McLean were all traded for the first two times this week.  Paul Skenes was traded two more times, bringing him to five for the season!  RCLs 21 & 27 made their first trades. Now 12 leagues have made no trades. RCL 19’s two trades put them at eight, the most of any league. COUGS R US & RCL 30 each made their seventh trade.  We’ll look at each of this week’s deals as well as the rest of the stats from the week that was, week 14.

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Not a ton of action in Perts this week.  Son had the best week, gaining four points and moving up two spots to seventh despite not leading the league in any category.  Coolwhip had the worst week, but only lost 3.5 points and fell to eighth.  Mike C held onto the lead with Kirksey bringing up the rear.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Todd Clark made moves this week and took over first place as James Sweeny slipped to second.  Andy Behrens got back into third and Kevin Hasting burst back into the top ten, jumping all the way to fourth after a one week hiatus.  The Mikes continue to do Razzball proud in sixth and seventh place.  The biggest movers this week were Homerzygous with 705 points gained (31 spot jump to 36th overall) and Aaron Cumming who gained 691 points and moved up 46 spots to 192nd overall.  Just two weeks left to get into the top two in your league or be relegated to the losers bracket.

All the trades that have gone down in the past week.  Public ridicule is not only allowed, but encouraged.

Someone, please trade me Hunter Goodman for Troy Melton.  Even if I have two catchers already, I’ll take that deal.  It’s interesting seeing the different returns for Skenes, Yamamoto, and Elly.  So much is needs based, league based, that it’s hard to judge without context.  For example, my trading Cal Raleigh for Ryan O’Hearn doesn’t tell you that Raleigh was dropped and I picked him up when he was IL’d even though I already had Drake Baldwin.  Did I sell low on Raleigh?  Yes, but I also have Ohtani in this league and physically couldn’t play Raleigh.  At least O’Hearn is usable.

WEEKLY LEADERS

The best of the best from the week that was.

R – 55 – TEAM PINKMAN (RCL 12) & Hanky (RCL 17)

HR –21 – JPHanson (RCL 24)

RBIs – 66 – JPHanson (RCL 24)

SB – 16 – Atavistic Abalones (The Laura Holt Challenge) & Longballers (COUGS R US)

AVG – .339 – Chicos Bail Bonds (RCL 35)

K – 101 – The Great Grognards (RCL 19)

W – 8 – 7 Teams Tied

SV –  9 – Backdoor Cutters (NOTLZ) & Halcyon (RCL 10)

ERA (Min. 40 IP) – 0.90 – Sad Sad Leroy Frown (RCL 9) (in 50 IP)

WHIP (Min. 40 IP) – 0.80 – Sea Pilots (CRAB ARMY) (in 50 IP)

The Great Grognards tied the weekly mark for strikeouts with 101, but no other records were toppled this week.  I love the even numbers in the ratios and innings pitched, and if you can say Sad Sad Leroy Frown without singing it like Jim Croce, you’re a better person than I am.

Some more stats from the week from VinWins:

Sea Pilots (CRAB ARMY) best WHIP for 2nd week in a row!  This led me to go check his team out:

That will play.

32 teams had an ERA under 2, while 10 teams were over 6.

16 teams hit under .200, and 8 hit over .300!

81 teams had 0 saves this week!

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Backdoor Cutters

League: NOTLZ

Stats:   AVG: .281, R: 42, HR: 18, RBI: 46, SB: 6

IP: 73.2, ERA: 2.32, WHIP: 1.032, K: 74, W: 5, SV: 9

Summary: Backdoor Cutters became the third different NOTLZ team to take home TOW honors.  That is pretty impressive.  Cutters wasn’t just a high save total (leading the RCLs).  The surprise offensive leaders were Luis Garcia Jr. and Joc Pederson. Luis hit .529 with five home runs, eight ribbies, and six runs scored, while Joc hit .500 with three solo homers. Cedric Mullins and Kody Clemens each knocked two out of the park, with Mullins chipping in a steal as well. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (1 HR/1 SB) and Julio Rodriguez (.320/2 steals) also contributed. The real strength of this team was on the pitching side, though, led by the bullpen’s nine saves. Josh Hader threw four scoreless innings and struck out six to earn a win and two saves. Tanner Scott also picked up two saves without allowing a run. Jacob Latz (3) and Caleb Kilian (2) combined for 5 saves, but had less-than-stellar ratios. Robbie Ray, Logan Webb, Eric Lauer, and Brandon Woodruff combined for 26.2 scoreless innings and three wins. Kyle Bradish added a win and 11 strikeouts in his two starts, while Jesus Luzardo struck out 19 over 11 and 2/3 innings.  The big week was massive in the standings with Cutters adding seven points and jumping from fifth to first in a very tight race.
