While other Fantasy Baseball Experts might tell you to not overreact and stay the course, the Fantasy Master Lothario and myself suggest you to take a different route. OVERREACT!!!! Drop your whole team for Nick Ahmed and Trevor Williams! Okay, so maybe we don’t want you to add Nick Ahmed, but we do talk about Razzball’s unofficial pitcher. We dive into Shohei Ohtani and Miles (Cy) Mikolas’ debuts, Gabe Kapler’s mania, Tampa Bay’s bullpenning, and talk Justin Smoak, Xander Bogaerts, and Jose Martinez. We pretty much ramble for an hour, but then again Castle GreyShitz could hum for an hour and it would be magic. Finally, please make sure to support our sponsor by heading over to RotoWear.com and entering promo code “SAGNOF” for 20% off the highest quality t-shirts in the fantasy sports game. 1. Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves says:

what changed lately, back through the MIN prospects podcast when you hit “download” it opened up in itunes (so you could play it while not being at computer in my case). the last 3 go to a different page but you’d not be able to load it to a phone/music player.

  2. Sky Burns says:

Everyone shades Kapler, but what about the decision to leave Mcmahon of the Rockies on the roster and not start him even once? Not exactly how you handle a top prospect, save that shit for Ryan Flaherty.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@Sky Burns: Sure, they could send him down in a week too. Minor leagues season starts Thursday. Should be interesting to see what happens with McMahon. Not sure it relates to some of the early Kapler crap. I was a big fan of the hiring for a bunch of reasons, but he can’t do this for 162.

      • Sky Burns says:

@Ralph Lifshitz: I was defending Kapler in saying a lot of managers are making bad decisions, including the Rockies and how he has mismanaged the use of McMahon. It is also like the Orioles, instead of playing Santander and/or Hays, they have Rasmus in the lineup.

        • Ralph Lifshitz

          Ralph says:

@Sky Burns: Hays is in AAA likely for servicetime issues. I see what you’re saying but not playing a rookie and managing your pen like it’s an elimination game are very different things.

  3. phil says:

Ralph I need to pick up a stolen base guy…Mallex Smith, Maybin or L. Martin?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph says:

      @phil: Maybin for me!

  4. Sky Burns says:

Cougs puts up with a lot of shit in that house!

Rudy’s tools are worth every penny. Buy them you cheap bums!

    • Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves says:

@Old School Brother: i’m cheap as shit but that 22.49 or whatever is was is fine with me.

  6. Paul Visconti says:

What do we think of Fat i mean Matt Harvey

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph says:

@Paul Visconti: I’d start him in the right matchups. I heard he looked good but I didn’t see the start.

  7. Milarky says:

Hey Ralph, great stuff! Can you give me some names of rookie pitchers that have a roster spot that I should be looking to grab on the sly? Our draft is this weekend and we have to start a rookie pitcher, and my only prospect keeper on my roster that would qualify is Buehler. I’ve got my eye on guys like Mahle, Flaherty and Gohara, but the rest of the available options that I’ve been sifting through don’t look appealing.

Thanks, and keep up the great work!

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph says:

@Milarky: Mahle, Flaherty, AJ Minter isn’t a starter but a good add, Hector Velasquez technically a rookie, Carson Fulmer, and then Erik Skoglund. Not many rookies on rosters.

Oh, and the Angels have this Japanese guy!

      • Milarky says:

@Ralph: Jeez, what a wasteland. I’ll probably just take a scrub and hope to get lucky on the waiver wire. Thanks Ralph!

  8. Stupid Sexy Glanders says:

13 team roto dynasty, deep ass benches as we used to be a 16, we kept the depth about the same after we couldn’t get anybody for 3 spots last year at start of year and chopped up those rosters. defensive stats and OPS, BB’s, QS, holds, relief appearances, K/9, K/BB, whole bunch of stuff added. now have 1800 innings cap on the pitching, no games played cap for hitters though.

  9. Syllogism says:

Well … here I am, two days after the article. Late to the party – par for the course. Hopefully this filters over to you somehow. :o)

    YAHOO – 20 Team Dynasty … 30 Roster spots …
Hitting (12): C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, RF, CF, LF, OF, UT
    Pitching (11 ): SP x5, RP x4, P x2
    BN x7
    NA x6, DL x5

Keep 26, 4-round draft. Must carry 23 “Active” (non NA/DL/Susp) during season (prevent NA hording). Transactions max 5/ wk, 58/season. FAAB $1000 (you should have seen the turkey shoot in the first week … omg … lol).

FAAB, Transactions, Draft Picks (balanced) all tradeable.

H2H, weekly, 6×6 …. R, HR, RBI, SB, .OBP, .SLG …. W, K, SV, ERA, WHIP, K/BB … most cat wins in week wins the week.
    Hitting (Including DLd players)

    * Posey (C) … Austin Barnes (C, 2B)
    * Miggy (1B), Morales (1B), Gurie (1B)(DL) [ugh … tried to trade-unblock, not successful yet]
    * Merrifield (2B, RF), Asuaje(2B)
    * Asdrubal Cabrera (2B, 3B, SS), Dixon Machado (2B, SS)
    * Longoria (3B), Panda (1B, 3B)
    * McCutch (CF, RF), Eaton (CF, LF-soon), LoCain (CF), Haniger (RF), Pirela (LF), Delmonico (LF), Bader (CF), … [Ya, trying to trade-unblock here too]
    * NA … Neuse, Danny Jansen, Garrett Hampson, Nick Gordon

    Pitching (Including DLd)
    * Scherzer, Hendricks, Lynn, Ervin Santana, JA Happ, Ryu, Ty Ross, Shelby Miller (DL)
    * Anibal Sanchez (it’s a long story … losing the week in all ratios but K/BB … 3 Ks could make all the difference … currently leading week 7 – 5 … but man, it’s tight)
    * Wade Davis, Gregerson (sigh)(DL), Ziggy (FAAB pickup), Claudio (DOH!)
    * Chad Green, Matt Albers, Randall Delgado (DL)
    * NA … John Gant, Max Fried

    – I’m way too long on OF and I’m jammed @ 1B. I’m looking to convert Miggy/Morales/Gurriel and one of Eaton/LoCain into other-position value and/or move one of Delmonico, Bader … maybe Pirela (who I’m high on) … carrying 7 OF-only hitters is way too many
    – Weaknesses: Power, and I’m sucking @ SS (Machado was a desperation FAAB-GRAAB), and 3B could use improvement. Saves – considering saves, but … ugh.
    – I think Miggy finds his mojo again, even factoring for age. LoCain gets a boost for moving to MIL, and Eaton could score 100 runs at the top of the WAS lineup. McCutch makes me cry almost every day, but … McCutch.
    – I think Longoria will have need for rest-days and I’m liking what I’m seeing out of Panda through ST and the new-born season.

    – I’m high on Lynn … 2017 first real return since surgery(ies) … control (K’s, Walks, HRs) typically improves in year-2 after recovery … and I like him in MIN (Division and Team). I think he will outperform projections.
    – I’m quasi high on Ty Ross – ST was looking like the pre-injury guy. Again, 2017 – “finding hisself journey”. He’s my SP gamble.
    – Similar dealio re: Ryu. 2nd real-year back will be this year. Injury still a risk, but I’m liking potential control improvements. (I had Corbin for years … same principal … packaged him as part of trade that brought me Hendricks).
    – I’m a little hinkey on Hendricks velo, but until he proves it’s a problem, it’s not a problem.
    – Duffy makes me nervous. I like his core, but … I’ve read that he’s another 2 mph down from last year, making him roughly 4 mph down from 2016.
    – I’m irked at talking myself into trading Erasmo Ramirez (who I’ve had faith in for years) for Claudio in the futile chase for the elusive closers. Dumb trade. Just. Dumb.

    Your thoughts, kind sir:
    – Duffy … thoughts on velo-drop? Injuries? Jettison/trade or keep? His projections still look awfully nice.
    – I need to get younger and need to improve power and speed. That’s always easy to do at the same time. Overall assessment of hitting/pitching? Anyone you really liking or hating on?
    – Any thoughts on above assessments? Lynn? Tyson Ross?

And lastly – thoughts on any of
    – Aledmys Diaz (Potential Trade target to shore up SS?), Delmonico, Bader, NA guys?

[email protected] tedious post. I’ve been out of the comment-loop for a month. It’s a build up of dynasty-stress. :P

Commentary, some, none, all … always love what you bring to the community. thanks!

  10. Swfcdan says:

Buying the Polanco start? Might be able to get him for Godley and could use a bit more speed, is it worth it?

Can’t finish a comment without saying Showtime-Shohei!!! I don’t own him in either league and want to so bad. Have felt that way with Trout for years, finally own him this year and another guy I’m desperate to roster appears! He actually looks like he really can hit too, box office every night!
