I know recency bias is a powerful thing but it seems to me, we are seeing a lot more highly touted prospects come up this season. This could be a symptom of the tweaked service time rules, or maybe teams are having a rethink on development schedules. Regardless of the reason, it’s a great time to be a fan. We have another in Max Meyer, this week. Bids could vary greatly based on his performance but take it with a grain of salt as he’s starting against a tough Phillies offense Saturday.

Not much to talk about in terms of schedule due to the All-Star break. However, make sure you look at pitching schedules; as some teams will look to shuffle their rotation.

Pending IL activations: Mitch Haniger, Ranger Suarez, Andrew Heaney, Yasmani Grandal, Dany Jimenez, Jakob Junis, and Tyrone Taylor

10/12 Team Adds

Max Meyer (MIA/SP) –Miami has gained a strong reputation for developing pitchers. Sandy Alcantara and Pablo Lopez are prime examples. Trevor Rogers had a great 2021 and seems to be turning things round, as well. Meyer is a top 10 pitching prospect. In his first season of pro ball (2021) he logged a 2.27 ERA 1.19 WHIP with a 130:42 K:BB across 111 innings. Meyer throws a mid-90s fastball along a highly touted slider. He also offers a changeup as a third pitch but I’ve seen conflicting reports about its effectiveness. (14-18% FAAB)

Jose Miranda (MIN/3B) – Miranda scuffled to start his MLB career. He’s quietly heated up. Miranda has slashed .327/.362/.600 (173 wRC+) over the last three weeks. All while maintaining a 10.3% k-rate. (5-6% FAAB)

Brett Martin (TEX/RP) – Martin has taken over Joe Barlow’s role as the Rangers closer. Barlow has since found himself on the IL. With Martin recording two saves over the last 7 days, he has a chance to solidify his role in the coming weeks. (5-6% FAAB)

Kyle Finnegan (WAS/RP) – The Nationals have placed Tanner Rainey on the 60-day IL.  They have not recorded a save since, making this situation unclear. However, Finnegan did a decent job in the closers role in 2021. Moreover, there isn’t a clear alternative and I think Finnegan will get first chance. (4-5% FAAB)

15 Team Adds

Esteury Ruiz (SDP/OF) – Ruiz has put up incredible numbers in the minors this year. He’s slashed .301/.460/.549 across two minor league levels prior to his call up. He is a speedster first with some pop, hitting 13 homers in 77 games while stealing an eye-popping, 60 bags. That’s the good news, however, his long-term playing time is in question. Wil Myers is on a rehab assignment, and Fernando Tatis Jr has started his hitting program. We may only get a few weeks of full playing time here. Moreover, most projections have him in the .650 OPS range ROS. Which is the crossover point for being a replaceable player. His potential is worth a bid but temper expectations for this season. (3-4% FAAB)

Brian Anderson (MIA/3B) – Anderson is 18th in baseball over the last three weeks in hard hit % (52.8%). The Marlins have a soft schedule coming up as well. 1 vs TEX, 3 @ PIT, and 4 @ CIN coming out of the beak. (1-2% FAAB)

David Villar (SFG/3B) – Villar has strong OBP skills, as he’s posted BB rates north of 10% in minors. He also has plenty of power to offer, as he hit 21 homers in the minors this season. However, he appears to be an injury fill-in for the time being. The Giants have a decent schedule ahead of them out of the break as well, 4 against the Dodgers but then 3 @ ARI and 4 vs CHC. (1% FAAB)

Jordan Lyles (BAL/SP) – Currently looking at a two-start week after the break. Lining up against the Rays and Reds. Since June 1st, the Rays have the 4th highest k-rate against RHP (24.6%), while the Reds have the 5th highest (24.1%). Lyles has been fairly effective in his last 5 starts. He holds a 2.76 ERA and .273 wOBA over those 32.2 IP. (1-2% FAAB)
