If you read my column last week, I used a terrible metaphor relating a cruise buffet to the pitching slate of the day. I guess I don’t learn from my mistakes very well, so I’ll use another bad food comparison. A few days ago I went to one of my favorite steak restaurants and the service was absolutely terrible. We waited 45 minutes for our food, and it was cold when it got there. It was an absolutely terrible experience. I dread going back there again, but I know that it will probably be amazing the next time I do. This is Clayton Kershaw. For that huge price, he probably burned you last time out. Do not be fooled, mediocrity is a very rare (unintended steak pun), occurrence for Clayton. I don’t care that the Rockies are hot, you are pitching Kersh, and you will be rewarded for it.

Since I am recommending a pricey pitcher (which I will do often), I’ll give you my plays of the day for <$4000 on DraftKings:

Yasmani Grandal, C: $3,400 – I always like power potential when I’m using cheap players, because it’s unlikely they are going to pile up stats in the other categories. Who doesn’t like finding a Rolex at the Dollar Store anyways? Yasmani has walked 3 times in the last 2 games, so he has begun to show some plate discipline. He also hit a bomb a few days ago.

Mark Trumbo, 1B/OF: $3,900 – Speaking of power potential, Mark Trumbo hit a moonshot off of Madison Bumgarner last night. When Trumbo is seeing the ball well, look out. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a Trumbomb or 2 more over the next few days.

Luis Valbuena, 2B/3B: $3,700 – Valbuena, along with the rest of the Astros, started off the season ice cold. Over his last 4 games though, he’s 5/16 with 2 home runs and a double. Plus he’s facing Jared Weaver who’s fastball hovers in the mid-40’s (or something like that).

Kyle Seager, 3B: $3,600 – Not only is Kyle Seager 4/12 with a home run over his last 3 days, but he’s actually good at baseball. You heard me. He knows how to play the baseballs. So why is he only $3600? I have no clue, but he should be in your lineup.

Jed Lowrie, SS: $3,900 – This is the last Astro I promise. Lowrie is hammering the ball the season and is hitting in the 3rd spot of the order, which gives Altuve plenty of time to get to 2nd or 3rd. Hot hitting plus RBI chances are just what I like.

Sam Fuld, OF: $3,800 – Here is another candidate for under-pricing of the day. Fuld is only hitting .375 with 4 doubles and a triple over his last 4 games. Oh, and he’s hitting in the lead off spot.

Matt Joyce, OF: $3,800 – Mike Trout and Albert Pujols are tough acts to follow, but they give you plenty of RBI opportunities. Joyce has a solid match up today and should have a chance or 2 to drive in a run. He’s always a threat to go deep as well.

Nick Markakis, OF: $3,700 – If I am stacking any team today, it’s Braves lefties against the Blue Jays. Drew Hutchison was absolutely horrible in his first start this year and Rogers Center is no stranger to home runs. Markakis is beginning to heat up, so I wouldn’t hesitate putting him in your lineup today.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

Rain is in the forecast for Kansas City and New York, so pay attention to the Royals and Mets games. Also a slight chance of a shower in D.C., so pay attention to the Nationals game.

Doing Lines in Vegas

The HOUvsLAA game has a line of 9. Coincidence I wrote about 3 of those players here? I think not.
