It’s Thursday, September 15th and FanDuel is offering a six-game main slate that starts at 6:40pm Eastern Time. Paul Goldschmidt and the Saint Louis Cardinals are heavy favorites, along with Yordan Alvarez and the Houston Astros, but really a lot of the players across the board are in similar spots. At $4,600 Goldy is so expensive, I don’t know if many will be on him, especially with Pete Alonso at $3,700 being the next most expensive guy. Chase Anderson has a 5% K-BB% and a 4.83. Paul Goldschmidt has a .410 OBP and a .280 ISO this season. This could very well be his best season ever. There isn’t any great pitching tonight, which makes for a good tournament slate but a tricky cash game slate, but at least we have Paul Goldschmidt locked in for both.

Carlos Carrasco, SP: $9,000 – Carlos Carrasco is my favorite starting pitcher on this slate going against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lance McCullers is the most expensive and while he does face a horrible offense in Oakland, he does have 4.37 xFIP and a 12.5% walk rate. Carrasco has a 3.47 xFIP and a 17.1% K-BB% going up against another bad offense and is $900 cheaper.
JT Brubaker, SP: $8,100 – JT Brubaker is my favorite tournament pitcher on the slate. He has the same numbers as Miles Mikolas with more strikeout upside, but because he is on a bad team and pitching to a good team, he will go virtually unowned. In a vacuum, he is the fourth-best pitcher on the slate.
MJ Melendez, C/1B: $2,700 – The Royals face Dylan Bundy tonight. Bundy has a 4.60 xFIP and while Melendez is a boom or bust type of a batter, he is likely to bat towards the top of the order against one of the worst pitchers on the slate.
Jon Berti, 2B: $2,600 – Noah Syndergaard is on the mound, which means if Berti gets on base, he is stealing multiple bases tonight. This is like getting a home run for $2,600 in our DFS lineups.
Spencer Steer, 3B: $2,400 – Miles Mikolas is having a good season and while he isn’t necessarily anyone to target against, this is a position I either want to spend all the way up for or punt. Steer has a .326 OBP and a .162 ISO. He isn’t a superstar but he can hit value even against a solid pitcher.
Ha-Seong Kim, SS: $2,700 – I do not like the high-end plays at shortstop tonight. The Padres are likely to face Drey Jameson, a pitcher making his MLB debut tonight. Jameson has a 6.95 ERA in Triple-A across 114 innings. Kim could bat at the top of the order and the Padres should put up some runs.
Jordan Luplow, OF: $2,600 – More of a GPP play than a cash play but his ISO against LHP this season is .271. There are plenty of guys in this price range more suitable for a cash game. Some examples are Brian Anderson ($2,400), Jurickson Profar ($2,600), and Mark Canha ($3,000).
Yordan Alvarez, OF: $4,100 – Going against James Kaprielian and the Oakland bullpen, the Astros are good plays tonight. The issue is that they are priced up. Alvarez is having an insane season with a .302 ISO and .403 OBP. He does have a hand injury and he sat out last night so check the news for any updates with him there.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
No rain in the forecast at the moment.
Doing Lines In Vegas
I’ll take the Marlins at +119. That offense is bad but Syndergaard isn’t the same pitcher as he used to be.
