It’s Thursday August 4th, 2022, and the dust has settled from the trade deadline a couple of days ago. We have some DFS to play with some players in new uniforms! There is an eight game slate on FanDuel at 7:05 pm Eastern that will be broken down below. I like the Red Sox offense the best including J.D. Martinez and Tommy Pham.

Justin Verlander, SP: $11,200 – Verlander is probably the safest play on the board but also the most expensive. He has a 3.36 SIERA, a 3.47 xFIP, and a 21% K-BB%, allowing just 0.87 HR/9. Cleveland does not provide a strikeout boost, but they are all around not a great offense either (16th in runs scored, 25th in ISO, 14th in OBP).
Jeffrey Springs, SP: $7,400 – I like Springs for GPPs tonight if the game does not get rained out. He has the lowest SIERA on the slate at 3.31 and the highest strikeout rate at 26%. He does not go six innings frequently (three out of 13 starts) so the quality start is in doubt. Going against a weak Detroit team is a good spot to be in though.
Darick Hall, C/1B: $2,900 – Paolo Espino with his 1.76 HR/9 allowed is on the mound today in Philadelphia. The wind should be blowing out to right field as well. Hall is definitely boom or bust with his .296 OBP but he has a .258 ISO and can crush the ball.
Ji-Man Choi, C/1B: $2,800 – Choi has a .351 OBP but just a .156 ISO. He will face Drew Hutchinson, who has a 5.04 xFIP, a 5.23 SIERA, and a 3.8 K-BB%. This is more of a floor than ceiling play as Choi has a good on-base percentage and Hutchinson is the worst pitcher on this slate.
Brenden Donovan, 2B: $2,500 – He hits for no power but Donovan has a .394 OBP and should be batting near the top of the order against Mark Leiter Jr.
Alex Bregman, 3B: $3,000 – Bregman will face Zach Plesac tonight. Plesac has a 4.40 SIERA and allows 1.21 HR/9. Bregman has a .353 OBP this season. He has a .382 wOBA and .217 ISO against RHP this season, so facing a weak RHP may make having a solid night in the cards for Bregman.
Corey Seager, SS: $3,500 – Johnny Cueto may have a 2.86 ERA but his xFIP is 4.33. Seager is having a bit of a down year overall but his .226 ISO and 24 home runs have been good.
Tommy Pham, OF: $2,900 – Pham will face Kris Bubic who has a 4.95 SIERA and allows 1.45 HR/9 with a 6.6 K-BB%. Pham has a .365 wOBA and .172 ISO against left-handed pitching this season. The Red Sox should score some runs tonight.
J.D. Martinez, OF: $3,200 – Oh snap, I brought it back with another Red Sox outfielder! Martinez has a .451 wOBA and a .243 ISO against left-handed pitching this season. For cash games, I do not play more than two batters from the same team. In a tournament, I would throw in Xander Bogaerts into the mix and possibly Bobby Dalbec as well.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Braves-Mets, Rays-Tigers, and Astros-Guardians, all have some showers in the forecast but none of it seems serious as of this morning. Check before lock the weather to be sure!
Doing Lines In Vegas
I’ll take the Braves (+100) over the Mets tonight. Kyle Wright and Carlos Carrasco have nearly identical stats this season. I like the Braves lineup more than the Mets, and the Braves just strengthened their bullpen.
