Went to look at where people ranked prospects traded at the deadline to get an idea where Deyvison De Los Santos going from the Diamondbacks to the Marlins ranked in people’s thoughts, and a lot of prospect guys are just out there throwing darts. Listen, I get it, no one knows anything. I say this all the time by just [throwing a dart] with some of these prospects. After watching Deyvison (which is called Deyvision), I can’t tell if he’s going to be 30 or 40-homer guy, but he is going to hit some big-time bombs in his career. Maybe there are 15 better prospects traded at the deadline, as I saw others say, but I will reserve judgment until I see it. I guess one thing that is fair to give others a bye on is they don’t usually think fantasy. Prospect people are thinking all-around game, and Deyvison De Los Santos looks like a no-glove, no-speed Ding Dong Merchant who sells out for Ding Dongs because that’s where his bread is buttered. Personally, I like Ding Dongs and their merchants, but I could see how that might not be how you want to build a real team. Thankfully, the Marlins aren’t a real team! If anyone’s going to give him 500+ ABs, it could be the Marlins. So, what can we expect from Deyvison De Los Santos for 2025 fantasy baseball?
The kinda hilarious thing about Deyvison De Los Santos is he’s the most Jake Burger-like player. How many Burgers is too many Burgers for one team? Marlins also have Jonah Bride, who is kinda the same. The Bride of FrankenBurgers, that’s the Marlins’ 2025 media guide. Bride at least walks, though. [hears Here Comes The Bride in head] Hey, Bride wants to walk? Call him The Wedding March! Hashtag nailed it. What did you say, call him Runaway Bride? Damn, okay. You got me. So, Deyvison De Los Santos takes no walks, which could hurt him in the majors. There’s concerns that he could hit .220 or lower in the majors. That his Ks ballooned a bit in Triple-A with the Marlins (28.4 K%) is concerning too. The power though — Baby Goes Dong!

And, well, when you hit 40 homers, there’s a lot of them:

The last one I showed you because of my ongoing battle this autumn to point out how bad minor league camerawork is. That cameraperson had the camera on their mask like the playoffs’ ump cam. Deyvison De Los Santos kinda reminds me of Jesus Aguilar. Who had some good years after people thought he wouldn’t hit higher than .220. Okay, facts time: Deyvison De Los Santos might hit .210, might not take any walks, might hit 40 bombs, might not play, might play for 550 ABs. Might, might, might, Deyvison De Los Santos is mighty all right. For 2025 fantasy baseball, I’ll give Deyvison De Los Santos projections of 29/15/39/.219 in 239 ABs with a chance for more power if there’s more at-bats there.
Julio or Corbin Carroll for 2025? Thanks.
Julio
Hoerner or Luis Robert? thanks 16 man
Robert
Hey Grey! Are you moving up all O’s right handed batters with the news about the fence coming back in? Feels like a big win for guys like Westburg…
Yeah, I’ve been moving them up in my rankings — hello Mountcastle!
Choose 3 OF in a dynasty:
Colton Cowser, Evan Carter, Jake McCarthy, Wilyer Abreu, Parker Meadows, Sal Frelick
Thanks
Cowser, Meadows, flip a coin, I guess Wilyer
Rooker or Carroll in 10 team keeper. Thanks
Corbin
Thanks
No problem
Jeffers or Endy at catcher in a 16 man league? or hold both.
Jeffers
Would CES be a fair comp?
Yeah, definitely could be
Were you a CES believer or a doubter before last year? I never bought into the hype but I am trying to revaluate next year what a healthy one would produce?
believer, which makes me think that’s why I feel more lukewarm
Real talk – Is every minor league camera operator Steve Buscemi’s character from Mr Deeds?
Hahahaha yes
Please rank Langford Machado. Willy Adames. O’Neil Cruz. Thanks
Cruz, Langford, Machado
Afternoon Grey. Would you take Machado over Langford, O’Neil Cruz or Willy Adames as a keeper? Do you consider them close?
They are close, but no I wouldn’t
Thanks Grey. What order would you rank them
I can’t believe mediocre starters like Severino and Pivetta didn’t accept the $21M offer. I wish I made $21M in my life.
Haha, I hear ya
At first I thought you were Nick Martinez, but then I realized you were Jon Singleton.
“The exception was Nick Martinez, who accepted the $21.05MM offer from the Reds over the weekend.”
:P
I agree with you. Not to mention some of the older guys who were legit studs and didnt make that in a career. I am for guys getting paid what they are worth but at some point there has to be a ceiling.
I know apples to oranges because NBA, but it easier to make the point. The top guys have had their salaries more than doubled in a decade. Hell average role players make what Kobe made now.
Yes, roster size, etc., but just cant keep going up that much each decade. Just bonkers.
Joey Gallo with less power with a barely better BA?
Also, every time I read ding dong merchant I hear it in this voice:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uGna5TrIQlo
Ha, amazing
And maybe a young Gallo who had value for a few years
That 2019 was so peaks and valleys. 22HR, .253BA, OPS .986 in only 70 games! Then injury, hamate bone IIRC, and never the same.
Ha, yeah, pure Gallo, distilled to his most Galloiest
Just took Big Boy with pick #454 in a DC, hope he gets a shot. Enjoy your vacay
That’s exactly right type of draft spot for him…Thanks!
Got a brain buster here! Sterling marte or I can’t believe I’m saying this, Benintendi? Or mj Melendez
Marte or MJ, depending on needs, in that order
Good stuff Grey! But, is it just me or is this a down year for prospects?
On a separate query, Lodolo, Kutter, Bubba, Ranger or Wacha Please pick 2 for this year only?
It is a down year for prospects…at least seems that way right now…wacha, Ranger
Thanks Please n Thank you!
Thought for sure you were going to say Lodolo is ready for a breakout!
Yeah, I might like him if the team build calls for it…they’re close in ADP?
Yessir. Around pick 240ish. Honestly not sure what my current team build calls for. Looking for a 4th SP after going Pablopez, Ryan and Flaherty.
There truly feels like there is A LOT of decent pitchers at every point in the draft…that it’s hard to know when to pull the trigger. Missed on FreddyKBB, Bibee, H Brown, S Gray, Bryce, Senga seems like a good deal at 135.
Even the Lugo, Alcantara, Eflin, Manaea, Bowden and Woodruff tier (picks 170-195) seems interesting.
To quote Braveheart…”The English are tooooo many”!!
Hahaha, they are too many! Yeah, when I was going thru for my pitcher sleepers, it felt like there was dozens to choose from…a plethora and an abundance
Can’t imagine. Don’t know how you do it. But we appreciate you’uns!!
Haha indeed
Matt McClain going to be someone to trade for? I was offered him for luis castillo in my keeper league.
I like McLain there
Grey!!

Ante! I’m on your time zone, I think… team looks solid, but high on upside, you could do with some safer bats…arms look excellent, safe/reliable…:better than your bats….not a super ton of interesting guys available…it’s boring but I’d prolly go Fraley
Grey!!
Thanks, man! I’m on Paris time in Croatia. But going Stateside this Sunday (Nov 24) for 6 days, 5 nights then back on Saturday (Nov 30).
I saw last year in this format having good pitching was more important than what I thought. The hitting will be fine. I refined my approach this year. Will let you know how it goes.
Take care, enjoy yourself and see you soon.
Cheers,
Ante
Why are you going stateside?
Grey!
Going to Toronto. Short mission.
Objectives:
a) Close my bank account which is dormant and inactive. As it turns out I need the money so there’s that too. Is that a separate reason?
b) pay my taxes
c) maybe lineup a job interview for a good job. Stars have to be aligned.
Cheers,
Ante
Nice! Fingers crossed stars are aligned!
