I too have been frustrated with the injury bug, semi faithful reader. Everyone has it. I’m currently injured, probably somewhere. I’m sure you have something nagging too.
In my high powered position as fantasy expert, I’m writing this from my eye doctor. My eye doctor office is named My Eye Doctor. That seems less than creative. Would you name your stomach doctor My Fart Doctor? Your urologist……okay you get the point.
The point is, to me as a strategy piece you need to be creative. This doesn’t feel like a season where you’re gonna get a one stop solution from the waiver wire or FAAB. It’s streaming season.
So I went and used all my technological experience and went to the Yahoo percent owned section, found some guys who are readily available that you could plug and play until they cool off, are injured, need Tommy John, or other such tomfoolery.
Anthony Rizzo: 57% owned, four dingers and a .393 average past seven days, 13th in future player rater. You might have missed the heater but Rizzo is a really good hitter with the old chip on his shoulder. “I didn’t forget how to do this” was the quote after his head injury last year. He’s my number one guy to get if you need a corner IF or a first base fill-in who might turn into something longer term.
Another stop on my day of hooky is the car guy. You all need to get a car guy. They can take my elderly truck and be trusted to do what it takes to keep it on the road. Shout out, Fifth Street Service in Washington, NC!
Luis Rengifo is your all purpose auto mechanic. He’s helpful in his batting average, tallying a consistent and sneakily valuable .291 average and 8 steals. No, there’s no power, and yes, the Angels aren’t what they were back under Mike Scioscia, but he’s easily rosterable. 47% of Yahoo players have seen the light and rostered Rengifo, who is eligible at second, third, short, and the outfield. Solid pickup.
Joey Loperfido got the call for the Astros. With Jose Abreu batting below .100, Loperfido will seek to cement his status as a starter and get a runway to do so. 13 HR is nothing to sneeze at, neither are 5 steals, but 37 K in 100 AB gives me pause here. Worth a shot in my new paradigm of streaming. He could have a big debut.
Personally, I’m not super into Luper. The next guy though…..
Kyle Manzardo is worth a stash. An over .900 OPS and open lineup spot just begging and pleading for a big producer. He could get the call-up every day and produce right away. Do it, especially in NA slots. I’m expecting Vinnie Pasquantino debut numbers here.
Another week another article! This time I tried to not write about the Cubs. Any other streamers out there? Who are you plugging in to fill the holes in your rosters?
