Only three weeks remain in our fantasy baseball season.  The Razzball Commenter Leagues are in sprint mode as everyone tries to finish up their innings pitched limit.  We now have 13 teams who have maxed out, and it looks like there are 39 teams on pace to miss the 1000 minimum.  These are mostly abandoned teams, I’d guess, but if not, get those streamers streaming!  We are very close to having a new overall HR record this year.  Vin has been tracking JamScandal’s quest for RCL glory.  JamScandal cranked 15 bombs this week and now needs 50 to break the record.  We have a couple things to watch for in addition to our race to the finish in the Master Standings.  I’m hoping for one more update next week so we can check in on the race with two weeks to go.  Should be a fun finish!

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

There’s a reason I renamed Son’s team to Dad this season.  Not only did he school us last season, but the man has zero chill.  He’s out there hustling batty calls in his grass-stained New Balance sneakers with the best of them.  All those counting stats have added up, and Son has taken over the Perts league lead with three weeks to go.  Talk about peaking at the right time.  Son picked up 2.5 points this week and now sits two points ahead of Kirksey and 6.5 ahead of Mike C.  I want to be like Dad when I grow up.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Matt Poole remains atop the leaderboard heading into the final week with Robert Goldman hot on his heels.  Sean Knurek had a nice week to boost him to third overall, and Chris Oliver is holding onto the Wild Card spot.  Good luck to everyone in the last week of play!

WEEKLY LEADERS

The best of the best from the week that was.

R – 62 – rloyod (RCL 35)

HR –22 – rloyod (RCL 35)

RBIs – 66 – rloyod (RCL 35)

SB – 16 – QuietJon (RCL 4)

AVG – .343 – agtheog7 (RCL 15)

K – 97 – Beneath the Planet of the Vegans (DFSers Anonymous)

W – 8 – Creative Chaos (NOTLZ)

SV –  11 – Mr Big & Bud Goode (RCL 35)

ERA (Min. 40 IP) – 1.47 – RIPGrimey (DFSers Anonymous) (in 43 IP)

WHIP (Min. 40 IP) – 0.761 – thePMH (RCL 11) (in 44.2 IP)

RCL 35 had a week!  Rloyod in particular nearly had a clean sweep of the hitting categories, impressive stuff!  No new records this week, but expect the next few weeks will see the strikeout record fall (currently at 125).

Some more stats from the week, courtesy of VinWins:

22 teams had an ERA below 2.00. 81 were above 6!! [Srbanator (RCL 25) had a 12.55 ERA in 33 IP, Grey (Perts) had 7.83 / 1.741 in 64.1 IP.]

9 teams hit under .200 (3 last week)

43 teams hit over .300. (31 last week)

88.4% of the schedule has been completed. 884 IP would be on pace for the 1000 IP minimum. 1238 IP is on pace for the maximum 1400 IP.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Mr Big & Bud Goode

League: RCL 35

Stats:   AVG: .279, R: 51, HR: 21, RBI: 64, SB: 10

IP: 54.1, ERA: 4.80, WHIP: 1.215, K: 58, W: 3, SV: 11

Summary: It’s déjà vu all over again as we have a back-to-back TOW winner.  This week’s ratios weren’t the prettiest, but all the top teams had some warts, and Mr. Big really stood out everywhere else.  We have another peaking at the perfect time as they gained another six points but remained in 4th in RCL 35, just one point out of third.  Juan Soto continued to pace the offense, hitting .435 with three home runs and nine runs batted in. He also stole three more bases. Junior Caminero hit .379 with two homers, and also drove in nine. Trevor Story (.391 with a home run and three steals) and Ivan Herrera (three home runs) were key contributors. Tarik Skubal won another one with seven scoreless innings, striking out six. Zac Gallen and David Peterson also had wins. George Kirby was the main culprit in that high ERA, giving up seven runs in two innings. Jose Ferrer led the relief corps with three saves without giving up a run. Cade Smith earned two saves and had six strikeouts. Shawn Armstrong, JoJo Romero, and Edwin Diaz each added two saves without allowing a run.  I don’t think the late urge will be enough to catch Longballers in RCL 35, but it’s a heck of a finish for Mr. Big.  Nice work!

Grey made up some serious ground too. Blasted past me and BDon like we were standing still.

Good luck the rest of the way, all!

Hi Matt,,

The classic song (September Song) has a great phase about this time in the baseball season: Days dwindle down to a previous few.

I have 93 innings left or about 17 starts.

I was planning to start Fried, Rodon and Valdez in their 10 starts.

Note: Valdez has 3 starts: At Atlantic, Seattle (home) and at the A’s

This leaves 7 starts.

1. Do you agree with starting Fried, Rodon and Valdez?

Josh Tong has three starts: Texas (home), Wash (home) and at Miami

2. I was planning on starting Tong in all three. Do you agree?

Cam Schlittler has four proposed starts.

Vs Detroit (home): Sit
at Minneapolis: Start
at Baltimore: Start
Vs Baltimore: Start

3. Thoughts?

Another option is Ryne Nelson

His next starts are at Minn. then home vs Phil and LAD.

Yu Darvish has a home start vs CO and at CWS

In summary, among Tong, Schlittler, Nelson and Darvish, who you trust?

Your thoughts are always appreciated!! I am grateful for all your kindness!
