REL baseball logo newBREAKING NEWS!  We have an REL franchise for sale by the owner.  Unfortunately, the owner of the KANSAS CITY ROYALS is ready to step down from ownership of the team, and we need someone out there in Razzball Nation who is interested in joining the great social experiment that is the REL.  Now, this is a paid league, so the fee for buying the team is pretty high with how baseball has grown in popularity and all our TV deals.  It’s gonna be $25.  League fees are $50 for each season, so you’ll be paying 1/2 price this year to take over, and mostly it’s just to ensure we get a serious owner.  Then it’s $50 every additional year.  To see a quick recap on how the league works, you can check out the Cliff’s Notes in the league launch post.

First commenter who says they want the Royals, gets em.  Just let me know if the email is good to contact you through the email you comment on, or give me an email to reach out to ya.  I’ll then forward you the rules and swap you over to own the team!  Please only take over the team if you intend on staying with the dynasty as long as possible!

To our standings, the Nats/Cubs continue to rock the NL with the Orange Birds still stooping over the AL.  We had two MONSTER buys – one in each league – on the FAAB market this week as well.  $92 in FAAB in two moves – gone!  Here’s how week seven went down in the 2016 REL League:

Everyone knows about Glasnow and Taillon, but not everyone knows the Indianapolis Indians have the lowest team ERA in the International League because of Chad Kuhl, Steven Brault and Wilfredo Boscan. Boscan is the oldest at 26, and while once a top ten prospect with Texas, he is clearly the SP5 in this rotation. A 5-7 k/9, 2-3 BB/9 innings eater. Kuhl and Brault might have some deep league interest when they make it to big leagues. Kuhl is a lesser version of Taillon, in that he has less than overpowering stuff, but decent control. He currently has a 0.91 ERA and an 0.78 WHIP. He is being aided, however, by a 0.191 BABIP and 96% LOB. Brault, statistically, is a lesser version of Glasnow. Acquired from Baltimore, because the Orioles don’t know what to do with pitchers, the lefty has a losing record, but a shiny 11.81 k-rate, matched with a less shiny 3.71 BB-rate. He, however, has been a tad unlucky, with a 0.352 BABIP, supporting his 2.18 FIP. It is not out the question, the 2018 Pirates starting staff will be Cole (if they can afford him), Glasnow, Taillon, Brault, Kuhl.

Even though he is not on my REL team, I thought it would be fair to update how Josh Bell is doing. He is on several deep league watch list, hoping for a second 1B or CI. Thus far in his minor league career he has walked nearly as often as he has struck out. This year his K% is 22% versus 13% BB rate. There has been hope that his body shape would start to translate into some power, but at nearly 24, his ISO is still only 0.136. He does hit the ball hard, a fact I can’t back up with stats, but have seen enough games to give anecdotal evidence. As a result, he has a 0.330 BABIP and that will probably be a higher end tool. His current 0.264 batting average is a direct result of that spike in strikeouts. It seems like left-handed is his power swing, but the K-rate is comparable from both sides. Though it doesn’t “matter” for fantasy, he has 5 errors at first base. What that does mean, is he is stuck at 1st, and probably won’t be able to spot-start in the outfield anymore.

For FAAB this week, I dipped my toes into the SVH speculation market. I saw how Jumbo Diaz was dominating at AAA, and I saw how Cingrani and Ohlendorf were not inspiring great confidence in Cincinnati, so I grabbed him with a zero dollar bid. He has subsequently been recalled and after Cingrani’s most recent blowup, may get the opportunity. My back-up $0 bid was for Carlos Estevez. I was glad he was still available after having 4 holds in the last week. I was a little surprised there were no other bids on him. He averages 96 on his fastball and pretty good command, though he is walking over 5/9 in Colorado. With the demotion of Miguel Castro, the 23 year old Estevez appears to have the opportunity to be a primary set-up man, and should anything happen to the under 6 K/9 Mcgee, he could be next in line.

Another week of tanking, but exhibiting some nice fiscal responsibility.  With corner infield a need for me, I initially wanted to go strong into the Tommy Joseph sweepstakes after watching his ABs Tuesday night.  I had my bid all the way up to $29, but decided to ease it down as I think his upside might be peak James Loney.  Meh, maybe more power and less average, as he was known as a raw power guy as a catcher before this conversion to 1B.  Anywho, it was all moot as the Phillies rightly made a big bid to secure and own their [possibly] 1B of the future.

Ain’t no big reason to talk about my active players.  Meh.

In the Brewers system however, we have a lot of interesting developments.  After dropping Keon Broxton after his 11 K, 0-16 start, I had a ton of roster room after my tanking trades and snatched him back up.  He’s been nothing short of unbelievable at AAA, hitting .301 with 7 HR and 15 SB in 103 ABs.  I gotta take that with a grain of salt though, as it’s in AAA Col Springs, aka Minor League Coors.  And the strikeouts remain too high.  But ya never know, and Miller is a good hitter’s park too.  I hope he gets the call back up soon.

Down on my farm team, it’s just unreal what Josh Hader is doing right now.  Side note – his Twitter handle is Haderade, which is awesome.  Through 40.2 innings in AA, he’s got a 54:13 K:BB with a 0.89 ERA.  Bonkers!  Victor Robles continues to be unbelievable in A ball – hoping he gets a promotion soon to aggressively push him.  And the biggie is that Alex Reyes will be making his long-awaited AAA debut this weekend after getting suspended for smokin’ ganja.  I’ve got a nice collection of young pieces to get excited about, even if it’s more realistic that I’m competing in 2018 or 19.  But I don’t think I’ll be tanking to this extent next year.  As always, anyone is available for trades if you need some vet help! Well, minus Braun, since if he’s moved I need the younguns he’d bring back…

The Jays (real life) continue to suck. The only difference now being that their stellar starting pitching is starting to catch whatever it is that the rest of the team is afflicted with. My team continues to mirror them for the most part, though I think mine is probably a little better at this point. Not that I’m saying we’re good, just less crappy really.

On a positive note, I do have Devon Travis coming back at some point soon. On a negative note, apparently Brett Cecil is out for another month plus, and Tyler Naquin keeps getting yo-yo’d between AAA and the bigs. I made a new addition this week in Taylor Motter, who I’m hoping can be a bit of a Ben Zobrist type for the Rays, though most likely he gets sent back down soon enough. Maybe he could steal me a few bases before he goes though, that would be nice.

The season is well under way and this is my first REL recap. I’m jumping in this week because I made a couple significant trades, as I decided to look towards the future. My Angels have been stuck in mediocrity anywhere from 6-12th and I realize I won’t be winning it this year so I made a couple trades with the Red Sox and Rays. The Angels farm system is ranked dead last or bottom 3 anywhere you can read so I had to attempt to change the future especially with the present looking meh. First trade after some good back n forth with the Red Sawwwx was I sent JBJ and Tazawa for Rafael Devers and Sam Travis. I love this trade as I get a highly ranked prospect in Devers and another dude in Travis who is hitting real well in AAA. It’s a good trade for the Sox too as he gets a hitter who’s on fire back to his team and a good reliever in Tazawa. So added a couple nice bats to my farm, check! Next trade, made in the same day was with the Rays. After some shorter negotiations the Rays offered me Brent Honeywell for Brandon Guyer and Joe Smith. Again losing current value but with rebuilding mode in full effect I thought it was a good deal. I get a top pitching prospect for the farm to go along with the 2 hitters I just added. Rays gets a guy-er, heyo, who’s hitting well recently and smith will help in the S+H stat where Rays are lagging in so far this season. I’m hoping to make some more moves and a few teams have hit me up looking to get help now, so possibly more to come.

Thanks to anyone for reading my incredibly dry recap!

Astros 71 Waiver Adds and Prospect Callups Past Week:
FAAB Remaining: $75 Kyle Ryan Det – SP,RP $0, Tony Kemp Hou – 2B (called up), Colin Moran Hou – 3B (called up)
Alex Bregman – SS/3B – AA – Last years 2nd overall pick is absolutely destroying AA. In 26 games his triple slash line is 330/435/691, that comes with 25 runs, 26 RBI, 8 doubles, 9 HRs, 3 SBs, and a 15:9 BB:K rate (yes he has as many HRs as he does Ks!). That’s good and all but the big takeaway recently is that he’s finally playing 3B in games. Bregman will be in the majors this year. His bat is MLB ready and last I heard no team has gotten less from their 3B position than the Stros. In college Bregman wasn’t known for his power, he only had 21 HR in 196 games, but during this past offseason the Astros brass changed his swing a bit and now he’s hitting more flyballs than ever, especially when he pulls the ball. In any dynasty league I imagine he’s owned and if you wanted him now is the time to go get him, now might be the last time you’re ever able to get him.

Kyle Tucker – OF – A(full) – After the Astros picked a college bat with the 2nd overall pick they then went for the highschool bat at 5th overall, and he has not disappointed. Through 36 games Tucker sports a triple slash of 323/399/436. Where’s the power you ask? He’s only 19 years old, it’ll come. In the meantime he’s stolen 18 bases to only 3 CS and has played all 3 OF spots. The 17:29 BB:K ratio isn’t helping making the case for a promotion but lately he’s been ripping the cover of the ball. In his last 10 games Tucker is hitting .474 with multihit games in 8 of the 10, and of course when he gets on he looks to steal with 11 of them in that span.

Previous Ruffalo’s

AJ Reed – 1B – AAA – Reed hit the DL with moons over his hammy. I’m sure this is going to slow down his approaching the majors. Sad Emoticon. He should be back in the beginning of June and if he mashes he’ll be up soon after.

Colin Moran – 3B – AAA – Moran is still hitting… singles… He actually homered twice this week and maybe they are messing with his swing in order to get some more power. Whatever it is they are doing it’s also coming with a career high K%. And now he’s in the show. I wasn’t particularly impressed with his major league debut but he should get ample playing time… until Bregman arrives that is.

Joe Musgrove – SP – AAA – Joe got the call up to AAA this week and had mixed results in his 1st start. 5 innings (80 pitches), 5 hits, 2 BBs, 5 Ks, 1 ER, and of course most of his outs were of the ground ball variety. He’s going to get a start in the majors at some point this year and might even be mixed league relevant due to his “pitchability”. I’m not sure what that means but he hasn’t given up more than 3 runs in a game since June of last year and it only happened once all of last year.

David Paulino – SP – AA – Granted Paulino is most likely still a year away from the majors but if not for Musgrove he would be the top pitcher in the organization this year. For the year he sits at 34 Ks in 31 innings and only 6 BBs to go with his 1.75 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in his 1st taste of AA.
