Watch out, Ain’t It Cool News (or AICN, for y’all in the *pinkie to mouth* knowles)!  Is Ain’t It Cool around anymore?  I remember they reviewed one of my short films from a film festival and I thought it was the meow’s cat.  Member everyone thought Harry Knowles mattered and now you can’t go to Comic-Con without hitting two dozen Harry Knowleses (Knowlii?). Eh, I’m not gonna hate on him.  That site probably got him laid and if you ever saw him, that is no small feat.  So, besides going way off topic when Nick asks me about Tree of Life, we also get to the heart of the matter on Dan Straily and Mike Olt like we’re a bunch of Kali Ma’s from Temple of Doom.  We also talk on some Uptons, some Weekses (Weekii?) and some Drews.  We basically talk about anyone that has a brother.  Except The Brothers McMullen.  God, I hate Ed Burns.  Anyway, here’s the Razzball Podcast, now with film geek talk:

I really hope that Bobby Valentine gets fired, for fantasy purposes. As a hater of the Red Schmucks and the Yankthese, I love to see them suck. But damn’t, I have now lost two nice HR’s by Middlebrroks cause Bobby V wants to play the Gardenvariety Punto for 7 innings then yank him for a pinch hitter. Hey Bobby this is the AL, you throw your best 9 hitters out there every night and slug it out. It ain’t that hard. The Socsciopath has never made a World Series in 10 years playing the same idiotic game. The only reason he has a job is no one has the balls to fire him and the fear he will go across county lines to the real LA and succeed. Play your guys dumb ass, it’s not that hard. The second you showed up your team turns to mush. This style might play well in Japan, so you should go back and say hi to the new Godzilla Brandon Allen for me.

@Grey, on top of that Vitters pinch hits and gets 2 RBI’s…on my bench.

Funny story, so were at the bar last night and some fight breaks out, lots of broken glass, knocked over tables. I grab the guy no one bothered grabbing as he goes for a beer bottle and toss his ass out. Both guys leave and everything should be cool right. Nope. About an hour later the guy I tossed out bust through the door with no shirt and two huge knives in hand flailing his arm screaming looking for the guy he was fighting with. When he learns the guy left, he just leaves without incident. That could of got really weird if the other guy was still there.

    @Grey

I have a tough decision to make when Votto comes back. Here is my roster:

C Wieters 1B Rizzo 2B Hill SS Rutledge 3B Lawrie OF Cargo OF Trout Granderson UTL Reddick BN Jennings DL Votto

SP Sale, Zimmerman, Gallardo, Darvish, Sheets, Fister, Medlen, Straily RP Clippard, Frieri, Wilhelmson, Holland

I’d prefer to keep 8 starters, at least 3 closers, and really only “need” one bench bat. I have a few different options:

    A) Drop a hitter. I don’t really see any droppable hitters. Maybe Rizzo?

    B) Drop a closer. I’m one of the few teams that has 4 closers so I could easily get by with 3.

    C) Drop a starter. Outside of an injury, maybe Straily or Medlen makes this decision for me.

    D) Package Sale and a hitter for a number one starter. Maybe Sale and Reddick/Jennings for an ace. Was offered Gio for my Granderson a couple weeks ago so I could revisit that trade.

Just wanted to get your thoughts on my situation.

    Thanks!!

Here’s a glossary suggestion that has no chance of being added:

Keystone-walled – When a base stealer is repeatedly sack blocked by a guy batting ahead of them. Example, “CarGo should have had at least 3 SBs last night, but he was keystone-walled by EYJ.” or “Andrus has been keystone-walled by Kinsler for most of the effin’ season.”

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

I don’t know about your examples… It’s more like a pitcher sitting in front of a fast guy…

      • Awesomus Maximus

        Awesomus Maximus says:
        (link)

@Grey, S’pose pitcher is better for the example, but an above average OBP guy is gonna’ be standing on 2nd more often than a pitcher over the course of a season.

Really I’m just annoyed because I own both Andrus and CarGo… and also because this Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie Premium Rush should be called Quicksilver 2 and feature Kevin Bacon as a crusty old veteran.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Ha! Yeah, Rudy and I tried to brainstorm on IM, came up with sack-blocked, but it’s so close to prospblock that it’s kinda eh…

            Awesomus Maximus says:
            (link)

@Grey, Sack-block was the first thing that came to mind, but it just sounded like an obvious and lame play on cockblock. Aren’t all the kids referring to 2nd base as the keystone nowadays? I hear it’s all the rage at the Little League WS, and it’s even trending on the Twitter!

@Steve, handbrake, parking boot, a governor is also a term for restriction in terms of slowing down, effecting the ability to go faster…

                    Kinsler is a governator

Andrus has the old P Boot on him with Kinsler in front of him.

Another save for Harry and the Hendersons.

Still a muddled mess in Milwaukee, or might there be a pattern developing?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Still muddled, but it’s worth grabbing him in case…

  17. Todd25 says:
    (link)

Yeah Henderson with 2nd save, and Axford pitched the 8th… hmmm, something smells interesting.

  18. Steve says:
    (link)

And Bruce is hitting .245? Wow. Hopefully he’s saving himself for the (fantasy) playoffs.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Of course!

      • Steve says:
        (link)

@Grey, What’s your and Rudy’s take on Bruce? Is he going to surge at some point?

        You guys own him, right?

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Yeah, have him on two teams… It’s roto though so we’re just hoping for a hot last month… But I guess that would work for H2H too… I think he’s got one more hot streak in his bat… Be surprised if he doesn’t hit .260 with 30 homers…

          Yeah, went to the dumper…

  21. Steve says:

Jesus. Up against Kendry this week. There’s always someone who seems to get hot.

  22. Justin says:
    (link)

Would you start Anibal Sanchez tonight knowing your ERA and WHIP got destroyed by owning and starting The Straily and Grienke?

    Or still sit him?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      I’d start him…

  23. Steve says:

    trade prop:

assuming craig’s injury today is minor (guy breaks more than union workers), do it, right?

Im looking for 3b and OF help…

    • Justin says:

      • rafi says:

      (link)

      A

  31. Goose says:

    Start one tonight:

Dom Brown (bats L), home vs RHP T. Hudson (batting #2 on lineup card)
Matt Joyce (bats L), home vs RHP C. Villanueva (batting #3 on lineup card)

I know I’m gonna get sonovabenched no matter which way I go here…

    • Grey

      Joyce

  32. Nico says:

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Eh

  33. Turnipman says:
    (link)

Thoughts on Matt Joyce? I’m in a 14 team OBP league and I hate to just drop him, but I picked up Kendrys off waivers right before he got scorching hot and I don’t have room for 2 guys who only play (mostly) against righties. Joyce has a significant OBP advantage but Kendys has more upside and a better lineup…

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      I’d want Kendrys

  34. Rick Grimes says:

Did you watch any of the game? How did Straily pitch?

Has your opinion of the lil tyke changed?

    • Grey

      Grey says:

OPinion hasn’t changed, he just ran into a good team…

  36. mauledbypandas says:
    (link)

Streamonater i trusted you with Straily!! Once bitten twice shy

    • royce! says:
      (link)

@mauledbypandas, It seems to me that Streamonater needs to adjust projections for rookie pitchers in order to capture their potential roofie-ness and what seems to be their ability to have higher HR/FB fluctuations.

I also got roofied by Straily, bee tee dubya. Crazy how he still got 5 K and 1 BB though; too bad my league doesn’t count xFIP.

      • Jack Full of Hate says:

when the stream-O-nater fails is it called S.O.N. of a pitch?

  37. Steve says:
    (link)

LaTroy Hawkins will be disappointed with his performance.

  38. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

Think Storen is getting the gig back? Would you prefer him over say, Affeldt or Jim Henson-derson?

Can you rank these here bench bats for me:

    Middlebrooks, Crisp, Headley, Kendrys, Toriiii?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Yeah, he probably gets the job back… I’d prefer Affledt… Kendrys, Middlebrooks…

  39. royce! says:
    (link)

I grabbed Affeldt in my h2h, now thinking that I might also want Henderson. I also have Cishek, Reed and W.Lopez for four spots, and teams usually use two of those spots for closers (and the other two for holds).

Should I drop Affeldt for Henderson, or Kelly Johnson for Henderson (not using b/c I have Pedrioa and because Johnson has blown chunks for a while)? Or just stay put? Seems that if Henderson is the closer, he’s much more likely than Lopez to see a save chance.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      I’d lose Johnson…

  40. Steve says:
    (link)

      Nice!

  41. All Braun No Brains says:
    (link)

Guy offered me C.J Wilson and David Robertson for Goldy and Street. We don’t count holds just saves and my hitting is loaded but my pitching now is top 3 Kershaw, Gio, Harren. What do you think?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Don’t see why you’d do that…

  42. All Braun No Brains says:
    (link)

also do you like alexi ogando in tex, maybe even to become closer?
or what about Kelvin Herran in KC he throws heat!

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      No on both…

  43. Goose says:
    (link)

Doolittle in the 8th, 9-6 Oakland lead:

Gives up infield single to Howie, then botches the throw on double-play comebacker by Aybar. Then, with runners on 1st and 3rd:

    K, K, K – Ianetta, TROUT, Torii

    Equals saucy.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Ha…Yup…

  44. Steve says:

@Grey, 3 questions – posted this in the older post accidentally:

Should I drop Bautista for Chris Johnson if I also have Lawrie as my 3B?

Should I accept a trade that sends Sale & Jansen and i get Longoria & Jim Johnson? (Hanrahan is my other closer, and I’ve got Bum, Dickey, Gio, Anibal, Scherzer as my other steady SPs)

Should I drop Uggla for Neil Walker?

    Thanks!

Sure, Misty May and Kerri Walsh earned the gold medal, but it would make the U.S.A. seem so much more kick ass if we had… say… Minka Kelly and Kate Upton portray them at the award ceremony. Think of the greater good, ladies.

@Steve, I watched some friggin’ Handball and Trampoline this week. Talk about barely an Olympic sport…

          • Steve says:
            (link)

@Awesomus Maximus, I can get behind handball (been in the Olympics a while) and trampoline (humans jumping), but beach volleyball is something you play (if you can be bothered) when you’re on holiday.

@Steve, I just think that Olympic events should have some real world relevance like they did back in the day. There should be no leisure activities. I want to know, who’s the best in the world at “Changing A Flat Tire?” Which country can put together the best “5-Person Mixed Bar Brawl” team? That’s must see TV!

              • Steve says:
                (link)

@Awesomus Maximus, Isn’t that what ESPN 2 is for? ;-)

                (link)

@Awesomus Maximus, for the mixed bar brawl they must have one tough guy, a fat guy, a chick, a short guy with small man’s complex and a midget.

        • Grey

Really? Matt Treanor’s wife is in the Olympics? How did I not know this?

          • Steve says:
            (link)

@Grey, Is it maybe because you pay zero attention to the Olympics? (emoticon)

              • Steve says:
                (link)

@Grey, I suggest you try and catch Usain Bolt run in the 200m final (and find footage of him winning the 100m). He’s awesome.

                Think Dee Gordon with muscles.

@Grey, Think it’s probably about 8am Friday morning my time. About lunchtime Thursday for you?

Or on NBC about 6 hours later…

@Grey, Yeah, 12.55pm Thursday for you, from what I can figure out.

@Grey, Yeah, it is pretty perfect, but I cannot take credit. She’s Matt Treanor’s wife, actually.

    Manny Machado called up.

I’d love to wait until tomorrow for your blurb, Grey, but I’d get scooped.

    12-team OBP

I have Segura at MI. Switch for Machado? Hardy is there so i wonder where they’ll play him….

    • Eddy says:
      (link)

@Eddy, Decided to make the switch. It’s keeper league, he may be worth something if he does well.

    • Pops says:
      (link)

@Eddy, Machado is supposed to slot at third.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

They’re gonna play him at 3rd…. Sure, you can switch them…

  66. Pops says:

Manny Machado or Alcides Escobar ROS?

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Manny

  67. Bernie Brewer says:

Probably going to get a lot of Machado questions…thanks in advance!

    Machado, Segura, or Rutledge?

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Rutledge

Stick with Rutledge or go with Rollins? I keep flip flopping.

  71. Steve says:

    How about some pinch-hitting CarGo?

  72. Jack Full of Hate says:
    (link)

I’m sure it got mentioned already but I’m playing call of duty and don’t have time to read everything, what about Henderson getting save for second day in a row?

    • Carnac says:
      (link)

@Jack Full of Hate, Basically, could be the new closer… BUT it’s an eff’d up situation so who knows. Helpful?

      • Jack Full of Hate says:
        (link)

@Carnac, at least it ain’t Houston messed up!

  73. Zach says:

Late to the party but quick (or not somquick) question… I’m holding Doubront, Wei-yin Chen, Phil Hughes, Samardzija, Minor and your boy Medlen. Skaggs, Taijuan Walker, Pat Corbin, Geritt Cole and Jacob Turner are all on the wire. Its unlimited keeper and everyone in this list is $1. Who would you drop for Skaggs? And would you hold any of those other farmhands in lieu of the guys I’m holding now (primarily for offseason and next year value)?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      I’d lose Doubront for Skaggs…

      • Zach says:
        (link)

@Grey, thanks. Confirmed my instinct… already had Doubront for Skaggs in the pipeline for tomorrow AM.

One other question — in another league (5 keepers for up to 3 years, snake draft) I’m holding Olt (on the bench) and Machado is sitting there. Would you make that switch and see what Machado has to offer?

  74. Pumpkin says:

Where will Adam Wainwright rank next year? Hypothetically…Top 15? Top 20?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Just outside the top 20…

  75. Samardzija! says:
    (link)

What do you think of Jeff Samardzija in a dynasty league?…he was waived after that disastrous start before last and trying to figure out whether to pick him up. My staff is already strong this season, but I’m thinking he’ll make an excellent backend starter next season.

  76. The Tree of Life was one of my favorite movies last year. I liked it in part because it had no real story arc. The film wasn’t about a narrative, it was about conveying emotions. That is Terrence Malick’s gig, and he really went with it this time around. It’s wonderful every once in a while to get a film where someone really pushes the medium as an artform in different ways. Not every movie needs to be Drive or Source Code, both films I also enjoyed.

This review comes closest to how I feel on the subject – http://www.sfgate.com/movies/article/The-Tree-of-Life-Rooted-in-genius-2305578.php

I hesitate to say you went into the movie “wrong,” because how the hell would I know that, but I think people expecting a three act story would be immensely disappointed with it.
