With Barmes headed to the 15-day DL, the Rockies decided it was time to recall Ian Stewart. Mentioned two weeks ago that it was only a matter of time before Ian Stewart got the recall from the Rockies. So what’s to be expected? He can hit home runs in bushels. Through 44 games in Triple-A this year, he has 12 home runs and 43 RBIs with a .381 OBP.  Who do you drop for him? I’d drop any middle reliever that isn’t probably going to get saves in the next two weeks (I know it’s hard to know because closers are so flaky). I dropped Devine, Corey Patterson and Nunez in three different leagues. That should give you an idea of who’s droppable. The word is, once Barmes returns, Stewart will get sent right back down. I believe that. I think Stewart’s only here for two weeks, unless… Wait for it… Here it comes… He hits home runs immediately and often. Something he is capable of. Will he do it? Hold on while I pull out my Corky Thatcher-shaped, crystal skull. Hmm… Outlook: Foggy. I guess you never know, that’s why you pick up these rookie schmohawks. Every once in a while you get immediate gratification, other times you get blue balls.

I can actually pick him up in Yahoo! leagues! Great googly moogly!

@Junker23: Yes, moogly googly to you too, sir. It is a miracle of biblical proportions.

  3. He’s only 3B eligible. What a buzzkill. By the time he’s 2B-eligible, he’ll probably be in the minors….

  4. Chet says:

Anyone with a pulse is gone in my deep NL league. Well, Corky Thatcher is catcher eligible, but Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da life goes on bra.

Trade Corey hart for lincecum? Good deals?

  6. Chet says:

What to do with M. Scherzer? I don’t need holds, but K’s are ok. If I do drop him and pick someone up I’m going with a hitter because my bench is getting low.

I’m in a 10 team mixed league and could pick up Greene, F. Thomas, Giambino, Adam Laroach, Ian Stewart (not the Rolling Stones founder), or some other bum. Any thoughts?

  7. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@cruisinkc: If you need a starter, that’s solid.

@Chet: My guess is this is for your utility spot/bench, so I’d grab Stewart on the promise of something great. If he fails to live up to it, then you drop him for one of those other schmohawks. I’m sure they’ll be there in two weeks.

Any word on Bruce and Headley? Still worth stashing away? I have been b/c my offence needs it. And, in a 18-team league, there is nada on the WW. Scooped Stewart today.

  9. Grey

    Grey says:

@RT: I’m assuming you missed out on Stewart. Cause a guy in the majors right now is better than two in the minors. Headley and Bruce are both still raking in the minors. Headley’s probably closer. On June 1, the Padres get an extra year of arbitration on Headley so I would think they would wait til then, but not much after. Bruce’s situation is much murkier with the Reds OF overcrowded as is, but that could change with a trade of Griffey or Dunn. Maybe the Reds are waiting until Griffey hits 600. That’s pure speculation though.

Thanks. Kinda what I figured. Would like Bruce the most, but I am hoping for a few bombs from Stew at least. I DID get him today…. for… ahem… a middle reliever of all things.

@RT: Yeah, I dropped a few guys that will probably still be there when Stewart heads back to the minors. But hopefully he hits well and sticks. *fingers crossed*

@IowaCubs: BTW… good idea or bad to drop Headley for Stewart??

  14. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@IowaCubs: I think it’s a good idea as long as you can get Headley back if he’s called up. Headley will probably be a starter for the rest of the season when he’s called up, whereas Stewart will probably be sent down if he doesn’t light it up.

    Dice-K, Soria, Matsui(or Victorino), Cojack…For Hamels and Pujols…..thats a fair deal, right?

  16. john says:
    (link)

@john: i need a good 1b, and still have markakis, quentin, victorino(or matsui) in my OF with Wood and BJ as closers……and the other guy has blowroski and gregg as his closers

Drop Loney for Votto who just hit the wire?

  18. Grey

@p0rk burn: I would, fo’ sho.

@IowaCubs: BTW, Indy was disappointing. I actually didn’t mind Shia LaDouce as much I thought I would, but (and these aren’t the only problems I had) what was up with the old broad? And the flying refrigerator was ridiculous.

  20. Steve says:

I have C Perez, so safe to drop Devine (who I hardly ever use) to take a flier on Stewart, no?

  21. p0rk burn says:
    (link)

Shia was a little annoying at first but by the end of the movie he was pretty ok. Maybe the rest of the problems overshadowed him? I’m still wondering how exactly one would open a fridge like that.

Overall it sort of left me with the feeling that Lucas mailed it in. “Here’s some references to the good Indiana Jones flicks, remember those?” Needed more whip.

  22. john says:

I’m so proud of myself, I finally proposed a solid and not at all slanted trade!….don’t give away too much of Indy, I’m seeing it tomorrow!

  23. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@Steve: Yeah, no harm, no foul. I’ve dropped Devine for Stewart and if Stewart doesn’t work out we should be able to move to someone else as valuable as Devine.

@p0rk burn: Yeah, I agree. LaDouce was awful at first but then I ignored him cause of other issues.

@john: Yeah, I wouldn’t give away too much, that’s why I’m only vaguely saying what I wasn’t crazy about.

With Garrett Atkins and Joey Votto already, do I really need to hang on to Conor Jackson? I just realized I could probably do fine without him. I don’t need Atkins at 3rd since Aramis is there.

  25. Kevin says:

Claim for Torres logged successfully for me last night. I really hope he sticks. He looked good last night.

  26. @Grey: Ian Stewart has two issues that Braun didn’t – AB and position. I don’t think they’ll move Atkins or Stewart to 2B. Stewart could play OF but you’ve got Hawpe and Holliday on the corners. Holliday tweaked his hamstring last night – if he’s on the DL, Stewart is playing LF. As just a 3B, Stewart is pretty far down on the list right now. I might take a gamble on him in my deepest league but I’d keep expectations low everyone….

  27. cockyphoenix says:
    (link)

Let me rephrase. I’m trying to deal Rich Harden and (insert first baseman here) for Miguel Tejada (he already has Hardy for a backup and I’m stuck with Tulo and Theriot) if I can get away with it. The guy only has 4 SP and a wretched offense. Both of these 1B are Util for me, as my OF and 1B are otherwise stacked. Would I be better off dealing Jackson or Votto?

  28. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

@cockyphoenix: If you can do fine without him, then cut him. He’s not that exciting either way.

@Rudy Gamble: As I said above, “The word is, once Barmes returns, Stewart will get sent right back down. I believe that.”

Crazier things have happened, but yeah, he’s probably gone in two weeks. Nobody should drop anyone worthwhile. I repeat, nobody worthwhile. I’m chucking MRs and Corey Patterson, who hasn’t been in my starting lineup in two weeks.

Good point by Rudy that everyone should keep expectations low.

I need one good reason why I shouldn’t cut Parra’s azz right now. He has been wasting a spot on my bench all season. Today’s performance all too typical. 4 and a third, 3 walks, 6 earned. My patience is at it’s limit. Memorial Day is tomorrow.

Maybe Stewart is the wrong Rockie to have added ;)?

@Kevin: He has great stuff, but I don’t think anyone would pick him up if you dropped him. He might need a trip to the minors to figure things out.

Is there a reason I shouldn’t drop Edwin Encarnacion? As far as I can tell, he sucks.

  34. Grey

    Grey says:

@emayetee: In ten team leagues, I think you should drop him if there’s someone worthwhile to grab. He didn’t turn it on last year until August, obviously if that’s a trend, you can’t wait around it.

I hope I can start “walking around my kitchen in my underwear screaming ‘I am Markakis'” soon again..I still have the faith, just can’t wait to see him turn it on again
