Topics discussed on this week’s podcast include something for everyone who’s ever listened to anything ever in their life. Yes, it’s that all encompassing. We didn’t just let the cat out of the bag. We skinned said cat, put it back in the bag, carried it around the block until PETA showed up and threw paint on us. With that said, the contest for a $50 Amazon gift certificate is still in play. It may just be in play until the All-Star Break (or until we get at least a dozen submissions). Here’s the rules and regulations: Record yourself singing our Razzball theme song. Use an online voice recorder like I did here: Me singing off-pitch. Then post your link in the comments of this post. (If you posted in the last post, you’re in the running. No need to repost.) We are not doing this because we’re replacing our theme song, which incidentally rocks. We’re doing this as a fun, cool, synonym, community building something-or-other. I don’t know; insert a touchy-feely phrase there. And make a version of the song! Anyway, here’s episode two of the Razzball Podcast (now in High-Def):

@Stan, I’m new to this computer-shizz… Does this help: http://razzball.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Razzball-Podcast-Episode-2.mp3
@Grey, That’ll do just fine. Much obliged.
I was just gonna ask for this. Internet-tunes is a program I don’t use. No middle men for me!
@Grey, FYI rush is arguably the greatest canadian band and they only had 3 members. Personally I don’t care for thelead guys weird voice.
The podcast made for an entertaining trip home. Thanks!
Thanks!
What about an RSS feed?

Thank you from saving me from Berry and lame Nate
@PrinceRudyNasim, You’re welcome!
It’s not showing up on iTunes. The only one that’s on there is the one from last week.
@Trini, Does anyone know how long it takes from posting to showing up there? I really have no clue…
@Grey, I’ve subscribed to it through itunes and #2 was there when I opened itunes-podcasts-refresh.
@royce!, Cool, not seeing it on my end in the iTunes store…
@royce!, I’m only 3 minutes in and they’re killing San Diego.
@Trini, From what I gathered off the internet that Apple takes up to 24 hours to refresh, so I guess patience on that front, sorry, it’s frustrating for me too…
Is Soria already droppable (dynasty format) or would you wait until it’s official he’s undergoing TJ?
@Buster, Can drop him if you need the room… In dynasty leagues, I’d probably wait for official word…
Grey, do you watch Weeds? you sound exactly like Andy Botwin.
@jsp2014, That doesn’t sound like a compliment…
@Grey, maybe not if you were a nuclear physicist. you’re not so it is.
@jsp2014, Ha, fair enough….
Your podcast is tagged as ‘explicit’ on iTunes…. I hope its yummy!
@Ethan Stein, Ha… Oh, yeah…
A repost from your morning article on pitcher usage: “I’ve got Pineda and Zimmermann in my dynasty league. Considering the info, who is the better keeper and is either good trade bait for Hunter Pence? Help needed! Thanks!”
@Dylan, That is Rudy’s article this morning… You should ask him… I prefer Zimmermann…
@Dylan, I’d air slightly to Zimmermann on keeper but neither are that great in my eyes. If you can package one for Pence without giving much else, I’d do it.
@Rudy Gamble, Hi Rudy – really appreciated your input in the forums earlier,. Have a couple of questions that have come out of that. Would appreciate your feedback when you have a sec.

Assuming you take Miggy or Pujols with the first pick, what are best pairings with #26/27 in 13 teamer, 5×5?
@Panti Jose, Best OF available…
@Grey, Thanks Grey. Best OF with both picks, a la 2 of McCutch/Bruce/Hamilton, or best OF (one of those 3) with another position, like a Beltre? I know Wright is not a consideration any longer. 4 OF league FWIW.
@Panti Jose, Nah, wouldn’t take two OFs. I’d take the best 3rd, 2nd or SS, in that order…
“did he sleep with your girl friend”….lmao rofl!!!
@PrinceRudyNasim, Hehe…
Rudy, regarding Kinsler, the thing about dropping him from 675 PAs to 628 PAs is that you don’t have to keep an empty spot while he’s out. For that time while he’s on the DL, you can pick up a replacement level 2B to give you some production. I think a lot of people make player raters out of projections but they effectively just assume we get 0s for players while they’re on the DL.
There is some opportunity cost of DLing a guy (we’ve all had times when we have 5 guys on DL and it’s eating up our bench), and it can be more harmful in deep leagues where it’s hard to find a guy getting regular PT. I still think comparing raw counting stats underrates guys like Kinsler and Cruz.
@jsp2014, my bad, should have finished listening before commenting.
@jsp2014, Yes, it’s possible that you add in ‘replacement level’ stats for some of the missed playing time if you make the assumption that the player could be DL’d. There’s a cost to that transaction in some leagues. Also, the reality is that 50 PAs of replacement level will lead to little counting stat value. So I agree but I don’t think that dramatically impacts Kinsler’s value. If you tell me he’ll get 700 PAs, I sign off on him being in the top 10. But I don’t think anyone can say that with certainty given his history.
feckin love that theme song
@grey,
wright at the 25 spot even with the injury? Miggy still @ 2?
@The Talented Mr. Dope Man, Thanks! I wouldn’t go near Wright at 25 overall at this point.
@Grey, i think in my 12 teamer wright went in the 5th round…. and the guy wasn’t exactly happy taking him then….

@K-Fav, I think the league is very shallow so it’s going to come down to waiver wire grabs and playing match ups, with that said, the team looks solid… Your pitching is a tad stronger than your hitting…
@Grey two guys in my office league discussing this trade: Dread Pirate, Ike Davis, Edinson Volquez for Morse, Papelbon, Aybar. Which side would you want to be on? One guy needs saves, other guy loves Cutch.
@Jon, Dread Pirate side… Not that close…
grey man, you think cain playin time get hurt with royals trade for OF
and who best gamble late in W/L/ERA/(k/9) league son
matusz, milone.
respeckt.
@#1contenda, Milone… Could hurt Cain’s PT, will go over it tomorrow…
Grey, I probably shouldnt even be asking you this, but my Hellboy and Billingsley for Gardner is a no-brainer, right? Keeper w/ De Aza as starting CF.
@Flunkie, Yup
10 Team Roto. Keep 7 forever.
Kemp, Upton, Wright, Andrus, Fielder, Kershaw, & Hamels are my keepers. I have picks 7 & 8 in the first round.
Per your rankings and my guess as to who will be available to me:
Uggla, Kendrick, Phillips, Bumgarner, ARam, Berkman, Young, Wieters, & Morse.
I’m planning on Uggla and then not sure where to go with the immediate next pick. Should I grab another MI and be stacked there, or perhaps grab Bumgarner and not draft another SP til late?
Thanks bruddah. Podcast kept me interested with lots of laughs in between. How I imagine my wife feels in bed with me…
@timSTi, Ha, thanks! Uggla, but no SP… You’re fine there for now. I’d go A-Ram because of my Wright concerns…
@Grey, I knew you would shut down my attempt at Bumgarner.. Kinda like how my wife shuts down my attempt at .. ummm..
Yeah good call on ARam.. Wasn’t thinking that way!
While I wait out Howard’s injury,I have to find a waiver wire replacement.The pickings are better at 3rd, so I moved Reynolds into 1st,instead of settling on Helton.I can scoop either :Valencia,Morel, Aviles, or even Chisenhall.Slim pickens,but I don’t want to deal a valuable piece for a few months fill in………..yeah yeah, I know Howard will probably sit till the all star break, but ……..
@Doug Ault, Chisenhall for now…
Need some advise. Just found out I’m picking 4th and I’m having some trouble with my strategy in the first two rounds. In most my mocks I’ve been ending up with Votto (7th) and Hanley (21st). However if Tulo is there at number 4, where he is ranked, I’m not sure who to pair him up with in the second. If Longoria (13th) or Fielder (14th) fall (I pick 16th), I think my choice is easy. Otherwise I’m lost. Other notable non-pitchers ranked around 16th are Pedroia (17th), Kinsler (20th), Granderson (22nd), Teixeira (23rd), Stanton (25th), Beltre (26th), and Cutch (28th).
@Melvin Emanuel, I wouldn’t take Tulo 4th…
@Grey, Do you think Votto/Hanley is good value in the first two rounds?
@Melvin Emanuel, Definitely…
@Grey, So if I take Votto 4th overall and Longoria doesn’t fall and someone else reaches for Hanley (which seems to be happening in some mocks), of the aforesaid mentioned players, who should I target? My gut says Kinsler but I really don’t want to take a 2b that early. One of Stanton or Cutch seems to be there in the third, so I don’t think I need to reach that far. It just feels like if I don’t get Hanley in the second I’m screwed. Thanks for your help.
@Melvin Emanuel, http://razzball.com/2012-fantasy-baseball-draft-prep-pairings/
Grey just got done with my 16 team 27 man roster draft, how did I do:
C – J. Montero, W Ramos
1B – Votto
2B – M Young
SS – Cozart, A Escobar
3B – Panda
OF – Stanton, Boesch, Cain, Belt, R Davis, Thames
SP – MadBum, Latos, Ubaldo, M Minor, T Bauer, T Milone
RP – Beard, Madson, Guerra, Broxton, Holland, S Casilla, F De Los Santos, Samardzija
Went Votto/Stanton/Young/Panda with my 1st 4 picks then MadBum and Latos.
@TualatinTwoStep, I like the team, but I do think your pitching is slightly better than your hitting. You have Young, Cozart and Boesch on in the OF as potential pitfalls. Not sure about the Young 3rd pick but it’s water under the brodge… Again, competitive team, but could run into issues…
@Grey, yeah I feel ya on the hitting, I mostly went Young over Uggla at that point because all the other top SS and 2B were gone and its Yahoo so I get multiple position eligibility out of Young. My OF is a hot mess, I’m just hoping Cain or Belt or both blows up for me. I’m hoping one of the many teams that didnt plan well when it comes to closers will want to wheel and deal with me once the season gets going. Thanks man!
@TualatinTwoStep, No problem…

traded capps to get cameron maybin. probably will have to drop crow to get another bat(belt, alonso, reimold, etc..). thoughts on this squad? i don’t see any glaring need, but you may. thanks again for the podcasts!
@byrone, Thanks! You and Rudy should go listen to cool, hipstery music together. I like the team, but you look a little heavy on speed and a little light on power. If Tabata breaks out, you might look to trade him after a month for some power… Your pitching looks very good, probably too good which hurt your power a little. You didn’t need Maybin….
@Grey, oh yeah i forgot to mention there are two util spots- grabbed maybin so i would not have to suffer dunn all year, in case he really is finished… i could waiver trout or harper, which one do you think will be up first?
@byrone, Harper…
***PODCAST IS FINALLY LIVE ON ITUNES.***
@Grey, Do you think you guys will ever record one when you’re in the same room?
@Steve, It would make things easier, but geographically it’s not so easy…

@Matt, Fielder, Wright, Cruz, Hosmer…
@Grey, Isn’t Wright expected to miss time to start this season and you think Hosmer can hang this season, or are you thinking more in the future?
It’s a shallow keeper, you take Wright and hope for the best…. Your other options aren’t great and there will be lots of guys available in the draft and waivers… If you wanted to go Phillips in stead of Wright, I could see it… Hosmer’s a no brainer, too good to throw back in a keeper…
@Grey, Thanks
We’re doing an auction this year for the first time. Any helpful hints or strategy you can recommend?
@Matt, http://razzball.com/fantasy-baseball-auction-draft-its-one-strategy/
@Grey, Thanks, one last question: I have Cole Hamels who I can keep also as one of my 4, but I rarely keep pitchers unless they are in the top 3 or so. Do you think he is worth keeping, or stick with the plan of just offense?
Also thanks for the Fantasy Pitcher Pairings, it worked great in my other league.
Bumgarder
Anabel Sanchez
Brandon Morrow
Vance Worley
Bud Norris
@Matt, No problem… Go offense…
Hey everybody, we’re supposed to have an RCL draft at 8:00, but our commish has disappeared and we’ve only got 11 teams registered. We need a twelfth team and hopefully we can start the draft when we’ve got one. Anybody want to do a draft soon, like as soon as possible?
You should try ESPN forums too…
@Grey, I think the league manager is the only one that can invite a new owner anyways.
Nice work once again on the podcast.
Just had our Fantasy Razzball draft. Everybody was prepared, zipped through 26 rounds in 66 minutes. 1 auto-drafter but he pre-ranked, so it looks like it should be a good league.
@VinWins, Nice! How’d the top ten (bottom ten?) go down (up?)?
@Grey,
1. Austin Jackson (Det – OF)
2. Adam Dunn (CWS – 1B)
3. Emilio Bonifacio (Mia – 3B,SS,OF)..
4. Ian Desmond (Was – SS)
5. Bryan LaHair (ChC – OF)
6. Jason Castro (Hou – C)
7. Drew Stubbs (Cin – OF)
8. Michael Bourn (Atl – OF)
9. Andres Torres (NYM – OF)
10. Jason Bartlett (SD – SS)
Bwahahaha! Love it… Dunn feels a little risky that early, feels like drafting on last year’s numbers. If he hits 3 homers in a week, it’s gonna hurt… Bonifacio is nice choice… Where’d Josh Donaldson go?
@Grey, No Donaldson. Definitely several of us were relying heavily on last year’s numbers.
I have 3 players (Stubbs, Hill, Moustakas) on my RCL team and this team, so they should make me happy every game.
Actually, I think they might make you completely frustrated with no pure happiness. Lots of finger cuffing… I’m not trying to manage anyone’s team, but Donaldson’s a good flyer… As is Sogard… Actually whoever wins that job… Scratch that, every A’s hitter…
@Grey, Well, hopefully nobody else is reading this comment!
Also, the league manager that Zach was referring to has said he will try and fill that last slot and reschedule the draft.
@VinWins, Cool, glad the RCL issue is fixing itself…
@VinWins, haha spotted! Good fun that draft, pretty funny how so many of our top 10 are well known guys, just shows what shizzy real baseball players they are now. Dunn’s the crapshoot though, if he carries on from last year he’s fantasy gold here (topped last year pts by 50 over the next guy!), though im kinda hoping for a rebound as I actually have him in an OBP league. Really hoping he’s not done!
Any reason to hold on to J.Soria in a non-keeper? And do you think there’s any chance that A.Crow sees any saves now that he’s back in the pen?
@Steve, I don’t see much chance of Crow leapfrogging Broxton and Holland right now.
@Steve, Oh, and nah, you can drop Soria…
@Grey, RE: The RotoAuthority Gold league we were discussing earlier (you thought I was heavy on pitching but light on power). I just got offered a trade: I get Giancarlo + Altuve; I give Lincecum and Espinosa. I hate to give up my ace, but what do you think.
The rest of my staff after the trade would be Bumgarner, Gio, Jhoulys, Masterson and Buchholz. A little lighter than I’d like…
Also, my number one OF right now is Berkman.
I really like Espinosa this year, but don’t want to not include him in a trade just because of upside, ya know?
Altuve is VERY unproven, but he has upside too (probably not as much though).
@mcbainus, I like it for you…
I feel like I had a pretty solid draft for only being my second year as a fantasy baseballer (your mom’s term). Just looking for some more informed insight. Yahoo, 10 team, 5×5 h2h.

I’m thinking Sanchez and Cecil are bound for the waiver wire, but a lot of good sleeper candidates were drafted early (Sale, Minor, etc.) So I’m willing to wait to see who else might emerge.
@Evil Weevil, They are bound for the waiver wire. Your hitting is pretty crazy stacked… Your pitching’s not bad either. It’s a shallow team, but this is one of the better teams I’ve seen… Well played…
Looked over the waivers, the only other options I can see are Niese, Burnett, and Colon. Would it be wise to drop Sanchez and/or Cecil for any of them?
@Evil Weevil, Cecil for Niese…
@Grey, Sounds like a plan. And thanks for the advice, this is by far the best fantasy sports sight! Fan for life!
@Evil Weevil, Thanks!
Just finished our Razzball league draft, good fun. Pretty hillarious some of the names that come out, some players you don’t realise still exist! Took Desmond and Arroyo as my Razzball fantasy studs, looking forward to the year. Vin was persuaded to take Crawford near the end, nabbed my sleeper pick just before me! lol
@TheNewGuy, Yeah, it’s pretty hilarious… Where’d Dunn go? He’s a high risk/high reward guy… Love to Mitch Maier get some playing time too… He’s a beast!
@Grey, Dunn? 2nd overall pick baby!
Ha yeah just checked out Maier, 84 Razzball pts in only 95ABs. Fantasy gold if KC suffers an injury in the outfield.
Think I snagged a sleeper late on though, Dayan Viciedo. Chi Sox seem commited to playing this guy, and dudes a K’in machine!

I am trying to get some calm words of wisdom about not panicking and trading to replace he who shall not be named ( a certain dickhead 3rd baseman for Mets). What needs or trade assets do you see? Thanks love the podcast its good stuff.
@TheMess, Thanks! You’re gonna be a little weak on power if Wright doesn’t step up, and just weak on speed, in H2H that’s not terrible though. The pitching is too good up front, but then pretty messy in the back of the staff… It’s a shallow enough league where I wouldn’t panic right away…
Hi Grey,
Standard H2H keepers, which side would you rather have? Kennedy ($5) and Haren ($18) or Cuddyer ($9) and one of Garza ($10)/Gio ($14)
Thanks!
@Sam, Haren…
@Grey: Loved both podcasts. Very entertaining shtuff!
@tHe sHiT, Thanks!
@Grey, Please tell me you tried that pizza place yet? Im having that for dinner, again, for like the 4th time in 2 weeks…so freakin good!
I’ve been swamped lately and I don’t go out to that neighborhood much… Definitely on my list of places I have to try though…
Which side would you take?
Matt Holliday and Mark Melancon OR Brett Gardner, Billy Butler, and Sergio Santos?
@Quackasaurus, Gardner…
Grey, Another Draft in the books. I’m really liking War Room. I wish it was updated once more but it looks like the guy is tied up. Anyway, here are the results. Ignore the Grady Pick (lol). @Grey, Yeah, I noticed I was getting low on speed and they chose Grady right when I wanted to get a fast utility guy. I think they truly believe Grady’s legs are healthy. Thanks for the advice! Dropping Peacock
No problem…
In a 9-team league with:
3 x SP slots
2 x RP slots
2 x P slots
6 x BN slots
1400 IP limit
what’s a good SP/Closer mix? 6/3? 6/4?
@Steve, I’d go 7/3…Or 6/3/1 MR…
@Grey, Thanks. Good stuff in the podcast BTW. Still too much baseball though (emoticon).
@Steve, Ha! Thanks!
Listening to the podcast while I’m typing this. Enjoying it. Who would you take at MI among Infante, Furcal, Pennington or Sean Rod?
@Schmohawks Bob, Thanks! None? Sean-Rod…
@Grey, Yeah, trying to make a trade. This is why I think I need to try harder. Is it worth trading SAGNOF (Brett Myers) for Ryan Roberts?
@Schmohawks Bob, It’s better than going with Sean-Rod… Assuming you have some saves to spare, but, yeah, SAGNOF…
@Grey, He’s a number 4 closer. I’m a closer hoarder. You can ask Steve about how I roll in RCL #1.
On a side note, it was interesting to see the Y! Friends and Family Draft. It amused me to see Liss draft Cano/Stanton which you described as a computer glitch/over-reach in your other draft. I was interested you drafted a lot of SP early. The RP went really fast. You stuck to your guns on waiting till the end on C. Anyway, interesting that you went with David Robertson relatively early.
Rudy will have a post about the draft… It’s a low IP max so we went high K/9 guys…
@Grey, Looking forward to seeing that. I’ve got a league with a low IP limit, too.
Corey Hart hit himself in the face while lifting weights today. He did not break his sunglasses though because it was daytime.
@Cole, Ha!
Hey Grey, loving the podcasts! Keep it up!
I’m trying to get a guy in my league to go for a trade, and I think he’s really close to taking it. It’s a 12 team H2H keeper league. We draft Saturday and my lineup looks like:
Uggla
Wright
Granderson
Bruce
Pence
Lincecum
Lee
Strasburg
Romero
D. Hudson
Ubaldo
Wandy
He’s close to agreeing to my Lincecum, Lee, Wright, and Pence for his Kemp, Longoria, Matt Moore, and possibly Delmon Young.
I might have to give up my first round draft pick too, which would probably be a 1B (Goldschmidt, Butler, Ike, and Berkman all might be there). I would also get moore for 6 years in this keeper setup, as well as longoria and kemp for 3 each. What do you think? Should I go all in?
Forgot to mention that we have QS instead of wins, so lincecum and lee would be really valuable.
@Hoog, Thanks! You’re giving up a lot… Can’t you do Wright and Lee for Longoria and Moore or a lesser SP?
I read your blog and, for the most part, like and appreciate it – both for it’s insight and humor. But I’m not gonna kiss your ass like the rest of these Razzballers always do: These podcasts, thus far, are pretty shabby and awkward. Three guys cracking lame jokes and providing very little useful fantasy baseball insight. Just my two cents.
Yeah, I think there’s one too many people on the podcast. You’re doing this from different locations, and so without the visual cues it’s easy to interrupt one another constantly. I imagine you need the Canadian guy to get access to the studio? How bad (audio quality-wise) would it be to record a Skype (or whatever) session just between Grey and Rudy? You guys could totally let loose on the Razzball glossary, and the jokes will flow more smoothly.
I also think there’s a bit of a “coolness dissonance” factor in play. Exhibit A: the Arkells. Also, he didn’t know the New Pornographers, and I’m not sure he got the joke about Canadian bands needing at least 9 musicians to be any good. And the whole smooth voice of the host just doesn’t mesh with the more… erm.. grungy tone of Razzball.
No offense intended to that guy, I just think he’d be a better fit for a different kind of show.
BTW, totally jealous that Rudy got to see Bob Mould play some old Husker Du classics. Did he play Zen Arcade? I believe Behrens (I think it was him, haven’t been reading much Yahoo fantasy since I discovered Razzball) used to call his blog Roto Arcade, in reference to Husker Du.
And Jesus & Mary Chain!!!
As for some Canadian music worth listening to (forget the Arkells and Sam Roberts, sheesh), check out Grimes and Austra for starters, although I’m sure you guys already know them.
@DrEasy, I didn’t realize Mould was still around performing… Yeah I’m jealous about Rudy seeing him. Jesus & Mary Chain too… Soundtrack to my 90′s HS experience.
Another dope podcast. I dig Grey’s gambling references, I use them all the time too.
Montreal really is a great city if you like kinky sex and poutine (sp?). I’ve gotta take the drive up from NYC again one of these days for all of the above.
If any of ya’ll are big eaters and you’re in Montreal, make a reservation for Au Pied de Cochon. Trust me it’s worth it.
I’m in a 16 team league with 28 players per team. We use Sv/Hlds as a category. My current bullpen guys are Storen, AReed and Gregerson. Would you advise dealing Josh Reddick for Andrew Cashner? Reddick is currently on my bench.
Every great comedy team has a straight man.
Your podcast needs one. Three Jerry Lewises is killing me. Other than that, it’s great.
