Since back in June when you abandoned your fantasy baseball team because it was totally sucking and you returned to your cubbyhole of Doritos and Freezer Pops, you’ve longed for this day. As Bob Marley sang, this is your redemption song, mon. Or womon. It’s time again to join some fantasy baseball leagues. Before you close all of your extraneous porn windows and rush to sign up, let’s explain how these fantasy baseball leagues are going to work. We’re going to have a bunch of leagues and crown a winner from each, then we’re going to crown ONE winner from all of the winners. We will be be crowning the winner by taking each team’s points and multiplying it against a ‘league competitiveness factor.’ If you want to see how it worked last year, go here. So we’re going to fill up as many fantasy leagues as we can for the next couple of weeks. Each fantasy baseball league will be a mixed league, 12 team, Roto, 5×5, 5 OFs, one Middle Infielder, one Corner Infielder, one Utility, 9 pitchers, 20 game eligibility, 180 Games Started. The lineup is also known as: C/1B/2B/SS/3B/CI/MI/5 OF/UTIL/9 P/3 BENCH/1 DL. The fantasy leagues will be played in ESPN and they will be free to join. They are not at Yahoo because they don’t give non-leaguemates the ability to see the leagues.
We’re going to start with nine leagues of 12 and see how we do from there. Each league has an organizer. The duties of the organizer will be to accept 11 other people into the league, set it up at ESPN at the most conducive draft time and during the season post pretty pictures of the league standings. Just choose one organizer from the available RCLs below and contact them. If we don’t get enough to fill 9 leagues, we’ll fold them together like egg whites and sugar. If we need more than 9 fantasy baseball leagues, then we will expand them like egg whites and a beater. If we need more organizers, then we’ll handle that business in the comments of this post. (The number of spots open will be updated by me as I hear from the organizers.)
Now for the BIG prizes! I know, you can hardly wait. This year’s winner will receive an honest to goodness, Louisville Slugger engraved with my signature (or they can get their own signature on there since they would be the winner). They can showcase the baseball bat in their living room, which will probably lead to divorce. Or they can carry the baseball bat around like they’re Joe Clark. Or just play baseball! If that doesn’t get you all goose pimply, I don’t know what will. Wait, I have to run to the bathroom just thinking about it. Okay, back! Soooooooooooo since I’ve been a daily reader for over two years but I’ve never commented because I’m antisocial, I’m guessing my chances of finding a league are between slim and none. Would that be correct? Maybe you guys should make separate leagues for ‘lurkers.’
On an unrelated note (semi-related if you consider it’s still about fantasy baseball), would you prefer to keep Choo in the 5th round (pick 60) or Pagan in the 22nd round of a standard 12 team 5 x 5 league?

What do you think about grabbing a mid-level closer like Broxton or Putz, and then drafting Aardsma and Howell, two closers who are expected to return to the role in about a month? It seems I could have 3 closers by May and two of them would come dirt cheap. 20 team.

And Grey you’d really take McCutchen in the Top 25? That’s just crazy and here’s why: He will MAX out at 18 Home Runs and he’ll be followed in the batting order by Jose Tabata, Neil Walker, and some shit combination of Garrett Jones & Pedro Alvarez. Unless you think those guys can make for an above average offense in Pitt (thus giving McCutchen 120+ runs in 2011) or you think he can steal 55 bases there is no way you should be drafting him that high. I mean if you want schmohawk numbers like he put up last year (.286/94/16/56/33) in the Top 25 why not just sacrifice 15 steals and 6HR’s & go with the much scarcer position (SS) and draft Jeter: (.270/111/10/67/18).. And last year was his absolute worst year of his career!

@Tony: I don’t think it does – at least not according to a couple of the guys in my league. I re-activated last year’s league, but it showed everyone as having already joined, but no-one got any knid of notification.
In the end, I just said to hell with it and set up a new one from scratch.

Anyone from my League #2 you need to log in and post a message on our message board letting me know you are in. I’ve sent emails letting you know this but how much you use the email given is unknown to me. I’m kind of annoyed by the “reactivating a league” deal. It’s kinda hard telling if ALL the owners are back or not! I assume most are, but until I get confirmation there’s really no way of telling…..
If I dont hear by Thursday or Friday I’ve got to open it up.

Ok its been a couple days on the invites i sent out and 4 spots have yet to be claimed. One spot was vacated so that is open for sure, but should i give the rest of the peeps more time or is it time to find others?

Trying to join one of the RCLs, but each time I email an owner it seems that the league has filled up. I sent emails to Rich & Owen a couple of days ago, but no response yet… *fingers crossed*.

I have tried multiple times since Feb 27 to contact a member of league 35 who has not replied back since he/she received their invite. They have not joined or replied. I want to open a spot in league 35 to take their place. The draft will be on Wed March 30th.
