Week six marks the approximate spot where we can stop saying, “it’s still early” in the Razzball Commenter Leagues.  This is the point where I assess and cut bait on all those underperformers.  Some might say it’s too late for that.  These would be the people who have already dropped Ryan Mountcastle.  I’m the sucker who has picked him back up everywhere he’s been discarded.  I’ve noticed Mike Yastremzski getting tossed to the curb this week as well.  Personally, I’ve cut ties with pretty much all catchers at this point, there are so many over-performing catchers to choose from, there’s always one on the waiver wire who is in a lineup.   I like to think I’ve mellowed in my old age and have better self control with the rage-drops, but Nick Madrigal has started to wear me thin.  The batting average is great and all, but one steal and no homers doesn’t warrant a roster spot for a .270 average.  Sorry Mads.  (Naturally, as I type this Monday night Madrigal is having a career night)  I also managed to cut bait on Kyle Schwarber, finally, only to see him have a two homer week. (and yet another one tonight, again, as I type.  I feel like a moron typing this right now.)  Figures. Who have you been rage-dropping across your leagues?  Has it burned you like Kyle Schwarber has me?  Who are you scooping and holding hoping for a turnaround?  Come on Mountcastle, get hot!  Let’s commiserate in the comments, misery loves company and with any luck our complaining will jump start some of these guys.  Now, for the rest of the week that was, week 6 in the RCLs:

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Son held on for another week despite slipping 4.5 points.  Fortunately for Son, Coolwhip slipped eight points of their own and so, Son’s lead is safe for another week.  This is really the Son and Coolwhip show right now as third place is still 22 points back.

Just when we were about to throw Grey in the dumpster out behind the Wawa, he came alive!  Grey racked up seven points this week and moved up three spots to sixth, both marks were league bests.  Grey put on a pitching show with 69.2 IP and 78 Ks, all while co-leading the RCLs with nine wins.

JKJ took the biggest tumble in the standings this week, easy to do when the middle of the pack is all bunched together.  JKJ fell five spots to ninth on the back of a 4.5 point loss for the week.  The biggest point loser was Ralph, who dropped ten points this week and slipped two spots to tenth.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

The rich got richer this week as Nicolas Mariano remained in first overall AND led the RazzSlam in points this week.

Sammy Reid, Brian Symour and Yatta all moved up one spot this week as last week’s second place team, Joseph Bond was in freefall, landing in tenth.  Joseph Asher moved up three places to fifth and Ryan Owen moved up one spot to sixth.  Yancy Eaton also moved up three spots this week, ending up in seventh.  Zachary Meyer makes a return to the top ten this week, after dropping out in week two.  Donkey Teeth is holding it down for Team Razzball, Coolwhip has dipped out of the top ten, but after a one week hiatus, DT is back in there.

This week’s biggest gainer was Michael Pennywark.  Pennywark leaped up 54 places to land at 53 overall after a 664 point week.

TOP 10

For those too lazy to check the MASTER STANDINGS, I present to you, the current top 10

RK TEAM LEAGUE RCL PTS LG PTS LG INDEX MASTER PTS

2 Son Writers League 104.4 102 101 104.6
3 Team mpaltrow RCL 2021 (#1) 104.1 100.5 103 103.4

10 Rock Meet Bottom RCL 2021 (#15) 100 99.5 102 97.8

And Laura takes the lead!  Laura is putting an absolute beat down on RCL #9, those silly managers don’t even know what hit ‘em.  Laura actually ended up losing 1.5 points in RCL #9 this week, but everyone else in the top three slipped up, or their LCI took a hit, so Laura took advantage and owns the top spot for week 6.

Son’s Writer’s League team snuck into the two spot this week, as his ‘Perts League team tumbled down to fifth…slacker.

Team mpaltrow jumped up two places to third and Johnny Utahs fell one place to fourth.

Mo Mohicans and Disgustipated held onto the sixth and seventh position respectively and my “Team Truss” squad moved back into the top ten after falling out for a few weeks.

Orlando Calrissians get back into the top ten as well, after just one week on the outside looking in and Rock Meet Bottom sneaks into tenth after finishing on the bubble last week.

After last week’s trade barrage, things chilled out a little this week.  Joey Gallo was this week’s item of desire it seems, as Gallo was involved in three of the seven trades.  Everyone digs the long ball.

B_don got crazy lucky with moving Seager right before his fractured wrist.  That’s such a tough one for JKJ.

Summary: You know you’re in a league of death when you win TOW honors, gain seven league points and you don’t budge in the league standings.  Welcome to FFB’s week.  You may remember FFB as the second place overall finisher in 2019.  Quick history lesson: Cougs R Us is one of our longest running legacy RCLs and always one of the top LCIs.  They were one of two $100 buy-in leagues.  When the commish informed me they were folding the league last year, I couldn’t let the name die.  So, we rebranded and relaunched Cougs R Us as the RCL Champions League.  This league features almost the entire 2019 top ten overall finishers, with a couple top finishers from 2020 sprinkled in if a manager couldn’t make it.  It’s the cream of the crop.  FFB crushed it this week and got closer to the top spot but still sits 12 points behind Team Tokyo and 8 points behind the Fighting Hams, that’s some tough sledding.  A few more weeks like this and we’ll all be staring up at that baby in a tub of butter though.  Nice work FFB!
