As the air starts to turn a bit cooler, the calendar flips to September and a large group of fantasy baseballers turn their attention to fantasy football.  Go ahead, wave at Donkey Teeth.  There are only five weeks left in the fantasy baseball season but what an important five weeks they are.  As the rest of your league checks out to go play the fantasy sport that requires only one day per week of roster setting (or as I like to refer to it, chess vs. checkers) the true competitors remain to grind it out for Razzball Commenter League glory.  Right now only a few points separate the top teams in the Master Standings, so we should be in for a heck of a finish.  This week, we’ll take a look at the year-long RCL records and what teams have a shot at setting new ones.  Does your team have a shot at the RCL record books?  Find out this and more in the week that was, week 21:

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

We have hit a little bit of an impasse this week, with our top four teams each ten points away from one another.  Everyone is busy trying to close those gaps and we had a week of stuffed stat sheets.  Five teams had a sub-three ERA this week and five teams tied for the most Wins this week at four.  JKJ and B_Don were our biggest gainers this week, each picking up three points.  B_Don was the only team to gain a place in the standings though, moving into eighth and pushing Cram It to ninth.

Coolwhip continued his skid, dropping four more points this week, the most in the league, and Grey is now threatening to take over fourth place.  It wasn’t all doom and gloom this week for Coolwhip though, more on that in the next section!

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Here we have it, our finals for the RazzSlam are set, and as I mentioned above, we have our very own Coolwhip representing team Razzball in the finals.  Good luck the final weeks Coolwhip, bring one back for the home team!

I was happy to see Nicholas Mariano reach the top spot here.  Nicholas led the overall standings for nine straight weeks and I like it when the best teams are rewarded.  The huge week from Nicholas (818 points) will go a long way towards winning this tournament as each team’s Round 3 total is calculated by adding 25% of their Round 2 Total Score to their team totals from Aug. 30 to Sept. 19.  That gives Nicholas about a 50 point boost for the final run.  Good luck to the final ten!

We have a data error in our standings this week, so take note that FFB should be the top team.  The RBI category, when we switched into the four-digit territory didn’t come over correctly, so FFB is shown with 1 RBI, when they actually have 1,006.  FFB also added FIVE league points this week, bringing them up to 111.  They were in first last week with 106 league points, so you can use your imagination.  FFB could be running away with things here in the final five weeks.

Milo The Cat made a big jump this week, from sixth to second thanks to their four league points gained.

Orlando Calrissians and Son each fall one spot this week to third and fourth, respectively.

The Stl Squat Cobblers also gained five league points this week, pushing them up from ninth to fifth.

Dunphy’s Joint Venture moves up one place this week while Team bnrgoalie jumped back into the top ten this week in seventh.

Bad River rode a four league point gain into the top ten, moving up from sixteenth to eighth and Brian’s team gained two league points to move into ninth.

Rounding us out is Backdoor Splitters holding onto tenth place for a second straight week.

WHIP (MIN 840 IP) 1.017 The Colonel’s (Julio) Gotay Original Recipe 1.017

With the way the season started, I expected we’d have a team or two challenging for a couple of pitching categories, but unless we have a very strong finish from allslugs or the Colonel, it doesn’t look like that will happen.  I also expected the batting average leader to be a bit lower.

Things get a little tricky with strikeouts and wins now that we’re on a IP limit.  For strikeouts, I opted to use our current K/9 leader, RBV.  If RBV can keep the pace, they actually have a shot at the all-time record that was set back when we had no IP limit, but just a Games Started limit on ESPN.

For Wins, I went with our current wins leader, who is almost at the 1400 IP mark.  However, I will keep an eye on FFB, who currently has 97 Wins and about 113 IP remaining.

I love that FFB is chasing down their own record here.  FFB is a run-producing machine!

There you have it, chase those records RCLers!

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: DFresh

League: Crab Army

Stats:   AVG: .290, R: 53, HR: 21, RBI: 51, SB: 11

IP: 81.0, ERA: 3.00, WHIP: 1.049, K: 93, W: 5, SV: 5

Summary: I told you DFresh is finishing strong, not only did they put two teams in the weekly leaders, but they also earned TOW honors with an absolutely stellar week.  There were slams, there were legs, there was an excellent K/9, DFresh’s squad really did it all this week.  Patrick Wisdom and Jazz Chisholm led the offense while Dylan Cease through 13 innings, struck out 18, and earned two wins this week.  DFresh gained 1.5 league points with this effort as they try to chase me down in Crab Army and steal the victory in the final weeks.  I’m watching you DFresh!
