When we hit week 20, the end-of-season panic really starts to set in for me.  Seven weeks remaining, and I’m either looking to make a big move or hold on to the top spot for dear life.  The trade deadline looms (ours is tonight at midnight!), so it’s also the last chance to make any serious team adjustments.  To really hammer that panic home, we have one of our final few Master Standings updates for you this week.  We’ll have one more on September 2nd, and maybe one more the week or so before the end of the season, so we can get a good feel for the race to the finish.  Hopefully, the MLB trade deadline treated you well and you gained more closers than you lost.  If not, it’s time to hit the trade market before it’s too late.  Let’s take a look at all that went down in the week that was, week 19:

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Not much action this week in Perts, with just B_don and Cram It changing spots in the standings.  The top got a little closer, though, as Kirkey gained 3.5 points and Mike C lost three.  Cram It was the biggest winner this week, picking up seven points, and Lineup Builder went the other way, dropping six points.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Round 1 is in the books.  The following teams will be moving on to round 2:

I can’t remember if it’s three or five teams from the Wild Card tier moving on, but I think all five of these advance as well.

Everyone else is pitched into the WC tier for round 2.  In round 2 we are looking for the top nine teams to advance, joining one team from the WC tier for a shot at the Championship.  Good luck, everyone!

A little shakeup at the very top with Longballers taking the top spot from Gunk Squad while password is taco quietly laying in wait, remaining in third overall.  Cpp186 & Blow Jobes or Rosterbation? Both burst into the top ten with authority.  That gives Joe two teams in the top ten, along with Gilson Schmilsson.  Impressive stuff.  With about two months to go, there are some big names hovering just outside the top ten who could definitely make some noise.  Little Bears, a former overall RCL winner, is sitting at 12, Backdoor Cutters, another former overall RCL winner, and STL Squat Cobblers, a perennial top ten finisher, are waiting to pounce.  If you click the link and look at the entire standings, you’ll see Laura lurking at 21 overall, Mike C at 23, Kirksey at 25, Dunphy at 27, me at 31, and Vin at 40.  No resting on your laurels with this group!  It’s going to be a fun finish!

Eleven more deals this week with plenty more on the way before we end the trade season.  There were some absolute steals this week, too.  I LOVE the deal for Wheeler, what a grab by Stabby Crabbies.  Always hate when someone right behind you in the standings pulls off an amazing trade, but here we are.  I also love the deals for Julio and Stowers.  Arraez is on the wire in some leagues. NOTLZ pulled off four trades this week, even if one is trading belly button lint (Scott) for an earwax candle (Edman).

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: El Niño

League: RCL 27

Stats:   AVG: .241, R: 48, HR: 17, RBI: 47, SB: 10

IP: 65, ERA: 1.94, WHIP: 1.031, K: 69, W: 7, SV: 5

Summary: It’s impressive to come away with such sterling ratios during a week when offense is up and RPs are melting down left and right.  El Niño managed it, though!  Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the star of the week, winning two games and striking out 15 with ratios of 0.71/0.868. Clayton Kershaw and George Kirby also picked up wins with six shutout innings. Gavin Williams tossed six without allowing a run as well, and struck out eight. Seth Lugo (Win/8 K) and Tarik Skubal (Win/10 K) rounded out the strong starting staff. Robert Suarez had a win and 2 saves, while Kyle Finnegan earned 2 saves in 2 1/3 perfect innings. The offense featured a balanced attack with 7 players hitting two home runs apiece. Randy Arozarena (2 HR/4 SB) and Agustin Ramirez (2HR/3 SB) led the way with power and speed. Giancarlo Stanton, Brent Rooker, and Lenyn Sosa each added six runs batted in. Fernando Tatis Jr. managed only four hits, but did score six runs.  The impressive week shot El Niño up 11.5 points and moved them up from 5th to 2nd in RCL 27.  Nice work!
