I hope you all had a Happy 4th of July weekend, my fellow Razzball Commenter Leaguers!  This weekend not only marked the birthday of our fine U.S. of A., but more importantly, marked the halfway point of the fantasy baseball season!  We just finished ~13 weeks and there are ~13 weeks remaining.  While we typically use the All-Star Break to mark the halfway point, this week is the real deal.  If you were exactly on pace with your innings pitched, you would have 700 on the button.  You can use that as a nice gauge to see if you need to be streaming your buns off the next 13 weeks or if you can chill out a bit and wait for the choice match-ups.  This week, in addition to the weekly leaders, we will take a look at our halfway leaders.  It will be a quick shoutout to those teams that have started hot in each of the roto categories.  Obviously, our team of the halfway point is the leader of our Master Standings.  Who might that be you ask? Let’s take a look at that and the rest of the week that was week 13 in the Razzball Commenter Leagues:

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

We’ve really plateaued here in the ‘Perts League, no movement last week, and this week the only swap was Ralph moving into tenth, pushing DT to eleventh.  That’s not to say points were gained.  Laura Holt added the most points this week with 4.5, but I barely held her off to hold onto third place.  Cram It was the biggest loser this week, dropping 4.5 points.

In a statistical oddity, Son lost 0.5 points while leading the league in every offensive category but homers as well as IP, strikeouts, and saves.  I guess when you’re at the top, you have nowhere to go but down, but this still seems whacky.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

The top four once again held strong this week with Nicholas Mariano, Yatta, Joseph Asher, and Ryan Owen keeping their spots.  Zachary Meyer leaped up from eighth to fifth this week, jumping over the stagnant Brian Seymour in sixth.  Sammy Reid fell from fifth to seventh with Zach’s jump up the standings.  Coolwhip moved from tenth to a much more comfortable eighth this week.  Clark Olson debuts in the top ten overall this week, landing in ninth and JKJ rounds us out in tenth as DT falls out of the top ten leaving just a Razzball duo remaining.

Our very own Rudy Gamble was the biggest mover this week, picking up 30 spots in the standings.  The rich got richer point-wise though and Nicholas Mariano gained the most points with 820.

TOP 10

For those too lazy to check the MASTER STANDINGS, I present to you, the current top 10

10 Coolwhip PERTS LEAGUE 101.6 98 104 98.8

Just like that, Son has reclaimed his throne!  Things are so close at the top of the standings right now.  Son only gained 0.5 points this week and that was enough to retake the top spot.  Last week’s champ, VottomanEmpire lost 2.5 league points and despite RCL #25 gaining an LCI point, it wasn’t enough to hold on.  I think we finally have a race though.

Grimey falls from second to third this week and Laura Holt put herself back in the conversation thanks to a four point week that pushed her from sixth to fourth.

Orlando Calrissians fall one spot to fifth and Team mpaltrow tumbled three places, landing in sixth.

Son’s Writer’s League team and Team cubbiebluez held firm in seventh and eighth respectively while the Fighting Hams pushed themselves into the top ten for the first time, ending up in ninth overall.

Coolwhip rounds us out, falling one spot to tenth.

There were a dozen trades processed this week in the RCLs.  I had the pleasure of trading for Tejay Antone just a couple of days before he was shut down again.  That may or may not be a worse break than trading for Schrwarber at his peak value and right before his injury.

I’m surprised anyone is moving Ohtani right now, but if you’re going to do it, you may as well get deGrom in return.  Still, I think the Ohtani side made out there.

I like exploring trades for Mike Trout right now too.  Trout should be back right after the ASB, so you’re not even losing as much playing time with that break in the action next week.  I may have to cast some lines and see what bites.

WEEKLY LEADERS

The best of the best from the week that was.

R – 74 – Team Draft Difficulties (RCL 2021 (#33)) & DonSlaughtOnslaught (Night of the Living Zombinos)

HR –29 – REDRUM (RCL 2021 (#9)) & Team mdubs (RCL 2021 (#2))

RBIs – 81 – Freddy Beach (RCL 2021 (#34))

SB – 16 – Vladmania (RCL 2021 (#20))

AVG – .327 – Team tkdc (RCL 2021 (#37))

K – 105 – GMoney Squared (RCL 2021 (#36))

W – 10 – haveUtasted MysucculentFeeesh? (RCL 2021 (#11))

SV –  10 – DFresh (Crab Army) & Krayt Dragons (RCL 2021 (#20))

ERA (Min. 40 IP) – 1.15 – Silver Spar Squadron (RCL 2021 (#1)) (in 47 IP)

WHIP (Min. 40 IP) – 0.78 – Scarecrow Boat (RCL 2021 (#29)) (in 50 IP)

We’ve got one extra day in the weekly leader stats this week, the RCLBots were enjoying their long weekend.  We won’t count these stats towards our weekly records, otherwise, we’d set new marks in Runs, HRs, and RBIs.  It’s crazy the difference one day makes.

HALFWAY POINT LEADERS

The best of the best from the year that has been thus far.

R – 667 – NCPhilly Fanatics (RCL 2021 (#26))

HR – 232 – Kailuaboys (RCL 2021 (#20))

RBIs – 676 – Kailuaboys (RCL 2021 (#20))

SB – 124 – STL Cardinals (RCL 2021 (#37))

AVG – .283 – Mo Mohicans (RCL 2021 (#19))

K – 1093 – NCPhilly Fanatics (RCL 2021 (#26))

W – 75 – Diamond Ringers (RCL 2021 (#14))

SV –  96 – FANTASY ICON (DFSers Anonymous)

ERA (Min. 520 IP) – 2.38 – RBV (RCL 2021 (#8)) (in 696 IP)

WHIP (Min. 520 IP) – 0.953 – Brookline Bees (RCL 2021 (#3)) (in 680 IP)

NCPhilly Fanatics making this list in both offense and pitching categories is very impressive, that manager is putting in some work on the waiver wire!  Kailuaboys also lands on the list twice, it’s always nice when your guys hit dingers with men on base.

A couple of quick notes as we compare to 2019 at the halfway point: Our leaders have 60 fewer runs, 12 more steals, 10 points less in batting average, 100 more strikeouts, and 0.5 less on the ERA.  In summary, slightly less offense, a slight bump in steals and pitching is pretty dominant so far.  None of this should be news to anyone, but it’s fun to point out.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Team mdubs

League: RCL 2021 (#2)

Stats:   AVG: .288, R: 62, HR: 29, RBI: 66, SB: 8

IP: 78, ERA: 3.58, WHIP: 1.179, K: 74, W: 5, SV: 2

Summary: Leading the RCLs in HRs is always a nice start towards winning TOW honors.  Had this week not had the extra day added on, Team mdubs would have been 1 HR shy of tying the weekly record, not too shabby.  Mdubs was powered by Pete Alonso and Nick Castellanos on offense and was able to overcome Ohtani’s 94.5 ERA on the week thanks to Sandy Alcantara and German Marquez.  The stellar week opened up mdubs’ lead over RCL #2 from two points to four.  It will take a few more good weeks to move them up to the top 100 in the overall standings, but this one bumped them up to 179 overall.  Nice work mdubs!
