One of the best parts about covering the Razzball Commenter Leagues since the Clinton administration (sorry to get political and yes, this is exaggerating a bit) is that I have all the RCL data squirreled away in my archives.  That allows me to look for trends across seasons.  For example, the average ERA in 2016 was 3.72.  Not too bad.  2017 saw a bump to 3.88 but 2018 fell back down to 3.79.  2019 got ugly and we had an average team ERA of 4.07.  A shortened 2020 season was even worse with an average of 4.18 and last season we saw an average ERA of 4.28.  The numbers since moving to FanTrax are a bit skewed since anyone who misses the minimum IP limit gets tagged with a 9.99 ERA and a 1.99 WHIP.  Still, we’ve been slowly creeping up over time.  So, how are we looking this year?  As of right now, we’re looking at an average team ERA of 3.55.  At about this point last season we were looking at a 3.51 average ERA and look where we finished!  Even with what seemed like an entire of month of dead balls, our team ERAs are still about the same as they were at this point last year.  I blame Jose Berrios.  This was all a long-winded way to say, we’re about the same as last year and overall, offense has been going up the past six seasons.  This shouldn’t be breaking news to anyone, but I still find the comparison interesting.  Also, we should be seeing a nice uptick in offense the rest of the way.  If there’s ever any other data you’d like me to mine, just let me know!

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

I took back the ‘Perts League crown with authority this week, gaining eight points and storming to the top on the back of a league-leading week in Runs, RBIs, AVG, and Saves.  Son lost 4.5 points and now sits 12 points back, what a swing.

Coolwhip lost the most points this week, 5.5 but held onto fourth place as Son and Malamoney were the only teams to drop a spot.  Grey was the benefactor of Malamoney’s slip in the standings.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

We took a break from RazzSlam standings last week, but we’re back again.  You now have about three-ish weeks to make your way into the top three of your league to qualify for the Championship Tier or the top six to make your way into the Wild Card Tier.  Of course, this is the week I fall to fourth in my league.  Hopefully, the team can recover.  Clark Olson has nothing to worry about though as they still lead the overall standings by a million.  Vlad Sedler scoots into the top ten this week thanks to a contest-leading 712-point week.  Zach and Nate are still holding it down for team Razzball while Ariel Cohen has aggregated his way into the top ten.  Our reporters are efforting whether or not his softball stats are included in his team’s totals.  The biggest mover this week was Mr. Rotowear himself, Kenny Cashman who took a 682 point week and moved up 50 places to 92nd overall.

10 Son PERTS LEAGUE 98 96 101 99.2

The big week from my ‘Perts League team put that squad back on top as my DFSers team lost a half point there and fell to second overall.

Donkeycorns slips one spot and FFB put up a big week of their own and moved to fourth overall.

Stechsjj holds steady in fifth while Scoboticus slipped from third to sixth this week.

Fred Garvin MP had a nice week and launched themselves from 33rd to seventh.  This makes two members of Cougs in the top ten, no wonder that league LCI is 108!

Jersey Pine 3 and Laura move up from 13th and 14th last week to secure eighth and ninth this week, welcome to the top ten you two!  Finally, Son rounds us out as his ‘Perts League team hangs onto the top ten overall.

6/26/2022 RCL #17
Texas Flood traded Joe Barlow to Scoboticus 2 for Zack Wheeler

Eight deals this week and Stanton is on the move twice.  I really like the Buxton for McClanahan deal, seems like a deal that could easily be a win-win.  That six-player deal seems like it could have been taken care of on the waiver wire aside from Harris and Doval, but that’s just my RCL brain thinking.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: shoheiyasmani

League: RCL 2022 (#40)

Stats:   AVG: .281, R: 46, HR: 21, RBI: 59, SB: 7

IP: 73.2, ERA: 2.20, WHIP: 0.869, K: 83, W: 5, SV: 5

Summary: Shoheiyasmani’s namesake was a key contributor to an awesome week, going 8 innings and striking out 13 while pitching in 3 dingers and 10 RBIs.  I love this man.  These weeks are the weeks every roto player dreams of, 20+ homers, enough steals to stay competitive, a sub 1 WHIP and more Ks than IP.  If we have to gripe, it’s for the lack of Wins…only 5…with those ratios…that’s silly.  Yordan Alvarez chipped in some more offense while Jon Berti went batty on the basepaths.  Tony Gonsolin and Corbin Burnes were bosses on the pitching side and shoheiyasmani moved from eighth to sixth in RCL #40.  A few more solid weeks and they’ll be right in the mix.  Nice work!
