MoreIt’s been a painful week for injuries, no pun intended. Anthony Rendon, Ozzie Albies, Liam Hendriks, Jorge Polanco, Jeremy Pena, and Yadier Molina have all landed on the IL to name a few. Luckily, we have an interesting mix of streamers and call-ups this week to help fill in if you find yourself short-staffed.
At this point in the season, I am still trying to pick up the best player available. However, as we inch closer to the halfway point, we should take a peek at where we are at in each category. Pair that with a rest of season project and self-assess whether or not you need to adjust your strategy.
10/12 Team Adds
Riley Greene (DET/OF) – Greene is an uber-prospect who could’ve made the opening day roster, if not for an injury in spring training. He will likely make his debut at some point this weekend. Greene hit 24 homers and stole 16 bases across two levels in 2021. (10-12% FAAB)
Christian Bethancourt (OAK/C,1B) – Should be picked up in most 2 catcher formats. He’s playing every day and has cemented himself as Oakland’s #3 hitter. He holds a 15.8% barrel along with a 48.5% hard hit, and will steal a few bags along the way. (2-3% FAAB)
Tanner Houck (BOS/RP) – Either through necessity or poor performance, the Red Sox have given up on him as starting pitcher and shuffled him to the pen. He’s earned both saves for the team over the last week. (7-8% FAAB)
Kendall Graveman (CWS/RP) – The likely successor to Liam Hendriks, now that he is on the IL. Hendricks’ initial prognosis is that he’ll be out 3 weeks, so spend wisely. (4-5% FAAB)
Jake Burger (CWS/3B) – Legit power (16.1% Barrel, 46.2% HH, and 114.2 MaxEV) and hitting in the middle of the White Sox lineup. Overall, his average won’t sink you and he won’t steal any bases but homers and counting stats won’t be in short supply. (3-4% FAAB)
15 Team Adds
Brad Hand (PHI/RP) – Seranthony Dominguez faced the middle of the order in the 8th inning Friday, while Hand recorded the save in the 9th. As a result, Dominguez will likely get some save chances but it appears he is the preferred high leverage reliever. (3-4% FAAB)
Luke Weaver (ARI/SP) – A serviceable streamer who gets the Tigers this week. Moreover, Detroit’s wRC+ since May 1st against right-handers is 59(worst in MLB). (1% FAAB)
JT Brubaker (PIT/SP) – Nothing special talent-wise, but gets two solid matchups with week. He gets the Cubs at home Monday and is scheduled to face the Rays who have 71 wRC+ and a 26.1% k-rate since June 1st against RHP. (1-2% FAAB)
Ezequiel Duran (TEX/3B) – Playing every day, and offers some speed and power. (3-4 % FAAB)
Jarren Duran (BOS/OF) – I think he stays up and platoons with Enrique Hernandez when he comes off the IL. Hernandez has slashed .196/.256/.288 against RHP this year. Duran has a high stolen base ceiling and has shown glimpses of pop in the past. (2-3% FAAB)
Luis Gonzalez (SFG/OF) – Scheduled to face 6 righties in their 7 games this week. He’s been leading off against them and will play in two advantageous ballparks between Atlanta and Cincinnati. (2-3% FAAB)
David Peterson (NYM/SP) – Two starts against the Marlins this week. Miami is dead last in MLB against LHP, with a 73 wRC+ on the season. (1% FAAB)
