So, the eventuality of Chris Perez’s return to the back end of the Indians bullpen has hit a not foreseen bump in the road. I bet he blames this on his dog also. I mean it had to be Fido getting lit up in the minor leagues and Fido’s fault for his shoulder to not be up to snuff after his stint on the DL. I mean everyone has blamed their homework on the poor species, but now…well you get the gist. So Vinnie and the Italian Jets are in a hold mode on your roster; is it just me or does Perez’s return feel like opening a present on Christmas and you already got it from someone else. I mean, who needs two Blu-Ray copies of Mannequin 2? So I am predicting a semi longer DL stint for Perez and then a return, followed up by another DL stint. Predicting is fun, especially when you get judged by a group of your peers, persecuted for it, and then banished to the basement with no food or drink for a week. Enjoy this week’s tidbits.
Tom Wilhelmsen – I only used his name to grab your attention, are you jostled? No? Well how about this fun factoid about the Marginers bullpen. Of the 7 (Medina, Capps, Furbush, Luetge, Beavan,Perez, Noesi) guys currently occupying jobs there in the land of Pearl Jam, the bartender has the lowest K/9 out of any of them. Weird considering his K/9 last year was a whole 3 strikeouts higher.
Brett Cecil – Starting isn’t for everyone, and I still love the glasses. His niche seems to be in the bullpen, or at least the stats and performance over the past month back it up. 2 wins, 3 holds and a K/9 over a dozen — and hasn’t been scored on in a month. Janssen’s shoulder seems to be fine but with no other viable options beside Delabar, a good add for ratio help can’t be all bad.
Tommy Hunter – “Big Game” has been stellar in the Holds department over the last month, garnering 7. Which, if your counting, is second during that time to Kenley Jansen. Hunter has at best paralleled O’Day in the set-up regiment for the O’s. Oh, and for the few people that care he has SP eligibility in the relief role.
Glen Perkins – I would hate to be a reliever for the Twins, I mean that literally not in a “I used to mow the lawn at a battered woman’s shelter, if you know what I mean” type way. Minny-soda’s starting pitching has a league-worst OBP and Slugging against; the bullpen on the other hand has the league best in both categories. Just in case you needed more, they are top 5 in both ERA and Holds. That subtle finger is from Glen P and the boys, go lick your palms Pelfrey.
