With injuries to both Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer, Corey Dickerson has seen his playing time increase and fantasy owners have taken notice. If it wasn’t for Charlie Blackmon’s red-hot start, we all might have been talking about Dickerson from day one (Rudy was BTW). The 25-year-old outfielder was the most added player (+49%) after Daniel Santana. We’ll get to Santana in a minute. In just 143 plate appearances, Dickerson is hitting .325/.392./619 with eight home runs and four stolen bases. We all know what Coors field does for hitters, and Dickerson is no different. He sports a phenomenal 195 wRC+ against right-handed pitching at Coors. A worthy add indeed for fantasy teams in most formats. Dickerson should provide decent counting stats along with double digit homers when it’s all said and done. Here are two more hot adds and drops from this week in 2014 fantasy baseball…
Daniel Santana – 92% owned (+78%)
I’ve recommended Danny Santana a couple of times in my regular SAGNOF column this season. At the end of the day, I believe that’s what he is…SAGNOF. I’m not buying the fast start, and when commentators have given me a list of middle infield adds for the rest of the season, I’ve been pretty conservative with Santana. I can hear the hate boiling up already. I’m just playing devil’s advocate here. What if he just ends up being a .280 hitter with steals and nice positional flexibility? What if, in reality, he ends up being Ben Revere but with about a third of the steals? One small piece from my SAGNOF notebook – Danny Boy topped out at 30 stolen bases in the minors. Even for a speedster, his .427 BABIP seems a tad on the high side. He’s hot to trot, but I’d look to cash in before he turns back into a pumpkin. You can start throwing vegetables at me now. TRASH.
Rajai Davis – 62% owned (-30%)
At the other end of the SAGNOF spectrum, we have the King of SAGNOF getting dissed to the tune of a thirty percent drop in ownership. The King of SAGNOF responds to such behavior by stealing bags in consecutive games. The 33-year-old burner has 20 stolen bases on the season. Twenty. He’s been caught four times. He’s hitting .280 and getting on base at a .332 clip. This season he has identical splits against left and right-handed pitching (.276). If you have him, hold him close to you. If you’re one of the thirty percent dropping him, please stop. It hurts my heart. TREASURE.
