We’re back!

Another week in the books, another to look forward to. Remember, kids: it’s still April, and while yes, you need to react to what’s happening in the baseball world, it’s not yet time to start cutting players you spent real draft capital on. That comes later.

I know this isn’t a FAAB/Waivers/Strat column, but I just thought I’d remind you anyway.

Two new elements to the Two-Start Dive Bar this week:

  1. The day the pitcher is projected to start is now listed along with the opponent. Monday (MO) through Sunday (SU)… they should all be pretty obvious which day is which abbreviation…
  2. Each table now includes some bold text. The pitchers in bold are basically the most extreme examples of their respective categories: The bold Top Shelf pitchers are this week’s creme-de-la-creme; the bold Well pitchers are your best bets among a bunch of question marks; the bold Bar Mat pitchers are the absolutely do not start these jabronis group.

On to the pitchers!

The Top Shelf

Pitcher First Start Second Start
Max Scherzer, NYM @STL(MO) PHI(SA)
Corbin Burnes, MIL SF(MO) CHC(SA)
Carlos Rodon, SF @MIL(MO) WSH(SU)
Kevin Gausman, TOR BOS(TU) HOU(SU)
Luis Severino, NYY BAL(TU) @KC(SU)
Joe Musgrove, SD @CIN(TU) @PIT(SU)
Shane Bieber, CLE @LAA(MO) @OAK(SA)
Jose Berrios, TOR BOS(MO) HOU(SA)
Nathan Eovaldi, BOS @TOR(MO) @BAL(SU)

Notes

  • No surprise that Corbin Burnes and Max Scherzer top this group.
  • The home-and-home starts for the two Toronto pitchers look particularly juicy this week.
  • Just start these guys and don’t think too much about it.

The Well

Pitcher First Start Second Start
Brandon Woodruff, MIL @PIT(TU) CHC(SU)
Max Fried, ATL CHC(TU) @TEX(SU)
Logan Gilbert, SEA @TB(TU) @MIA(SU)
Walker Buehler, LAD @ARI(MO) DET(SU)
Chris Bassitt, NYM @STL(TU) PHI(SU)
Zach Eflin, PHI COL(TU) @NYM(SU)
Sandy Alcantara, MIA @WSH(TU) SEA(SU)
Triston McKenzie, CLE @LAA(TU) @OAK(SU)
Kyle Gibson, PHI COL(MO) @NYM(SA)
Chris Paddack, MIN DET(TU) @TB(SU)
Eduardo Rodriguez, DET @MIN(TU) @LAD(SU)
Josh Fleming, TB SEA(TU) MIN(SU)

Notes

  • I feel like this is the most important part of this column, as this is that mushy-middle of “should I, or shouldn’t I?” pitchers.
  • Logan Gilbert is the easiest-to-recommend road-and-road pitcher on this list, but both Tampa Bay and Miami can get on a long-ball-hitting streak at a moment’s notice.
  • Josh Fleming is the most likely on this list to be on the waivers for you, and his home-and-home could be a sneaky good week. Of course… his opposing pitchers, Logan Gilbert and Chris Paddack, are on this list too, sooooo…

The Bar Mat

Pitcher First Start Second Start
Dallas Keuchel, CHW KC(TU) LAA(SU)
Framber Valdez, HOU @TEX(MO) @TOR(SA)
Miles Mikolas, STL NYM(MO) ARI(SA)
Dane Dunning, TEX HOU(MO) ATL(SA)
Mitch Keller, PIT MIL(TU) SD(SU)
Merrill Kelly, ARI LAD(MO) @STL(SA)
Marcus Stroman, CHC @ATL(TU) @MIL(SU)
Kyle Freeland, COL @PHI(MO) CIN(SU)
Daniel Lynch, KC @CHW(TU) NYY(SU)
Taylor Hearn, TEX HOU(TU) ATL(SU)
Jake Odorizzi, HOU @TEX(TU) @TOR(SU)
Michael Lorenzen, LAA CLE(MO) @CHW(SU)
Jordan Hicks, STL NYM(TU) ARI(SU)
Jordan Lyles, BAL @NYY(TU) BOS(SU)
Zach Davies, ARI LAD(TU) @STL(SU)
Reiver Sanmartin, CIN SD(TU) @COL(SU)

Notes

  • Boy is this an ugly list. If you have to throw these folks out here… well… no, just don’t. If you have to just make sure it’s one of the top few. Kyle Freeland on down are just bad news.
