Austin Wells: Up-And-Coming Dynasty Player

The Major League baseball season is just around the corner, but the fantasy baseball season is in full swing as drafts and auctions are happening every day and twice on Sunday.

With the fantasy season now here, so too is the constant search for the hidden gems, those players who will actually be the difference between winning and losing. With that in mind, I present New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells as this week’s Up-and-Coming Dynasty Player.

Wells started the 2024 season splitting time behind the plate but took over the role as the primary catcher midway through the season. When you look at his stats, you may wonder why I like him. So let’s find out why.

Brenton Doyle: Up-And-Coming Dynasty Player

Shepherd University, which is located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, has produced four draft picks during its history. Three of those players are people who none of us have ever heard of.

But one of them is Brenton Doyle, the center fielder for the Colorado Rockies. Doyle was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft, and Doyle has proven to be a great selection by the Rockies.

After the draft he signed with the club and was assigned to Grand Junction, the team’s Rookie ball team. All he did there was slash .383/.477/.611 with eight homers, 33 RBI and 17 steals in 51 games. And all he has done since then is to continue to hit and show improvement at each level of ball he has played on.

Top 400 Dynasty Players For 2025: 25-1

Welcome back everyone! After weeks of counting down the top dynasty players starting at No. 400, this is the week when the final 25 players are revealed.Β 

It’s been a long journey, but a fun one. But the end is here so let’s look at the breakdown and then get to the rankings.

Not surprising, the largest group of players fall in the Age 20-24 range with 12 this week. On the other end, the 30-year-old and up group, I still have four players making my top 24. But when you see who those four players are, you shouldn’t be surprised to see them here.

And if you have been wondering where all the top outfielders have been, well, you found them. Twelve outfielders make my final top 25 players, followed by four shortstops. This shouldn’t be too surprising as the top athletes are playing at short or in the outfield.

Top 400 Dynasty Players For 2025: 50-26

Spring Training has started, which means many fantasy leagues are gearing up for the season to start. Yes, some leagues have already had their drafts, but many haven’t.

As fantasy owners prepare for their upcoming league drafts or auctions or whatever process you use to add players, this week the Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025 features the players ranked 50th-26th. We are in the backstretch as next week we conclude the series.

When you look at the position and age breakdowns for this group, it should not be shocking to see 19 of the 25 players are under the age of 29 with five players under the age of 24. And you really shouldn’t be shocked to see so many pitchers. After the first two rounds of a draft, I will hunt for the top pitchers on the board, especially as more and more leagues adjust their categories to make starting pitching more meaningful other than collecting strikeouts or posting a 4.50 ERA yet get credited with a quality start.

Welcome back, friends. Time for another installment of Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025.

This week the countdown hits the players ranked 100th to 75th. In doing my breakdown of the players in this group, I learned a little more about my habits when either building a dynasty team or maintaining the one’s I have. And that habit is this – I do not put all of my eggs in the “go with the youngsters” basket.

I do this because unless you have an amazing ability to hit on every young up-and-coming player, you are going to have some big holes to fill. That, to me, is what the prospect drafts/auctions are for. In all of my dynasty leagues, we have prospect rosters. That is when I go for the upside player over the one closer to the majors or even has some MLB experience. But when filling out my actual roster or looking for to fill some holes, I like to make sure I have some known commodities on my team.

With that thought in mind, it makes sense why I have 12 players who are 30 or over in this group. These players all provide stability. There may not be a lot of upside in them, but there is also very little risk. If you are going to take risks early in your draft or auction, then it is wise to come back and add some veterans. Anyway, you can see the age and position breakdown of the players in this group and then move on to the rankings.

Top 400 Dynasty Players For 2025: 125-101

Another week has come and gone, but back again this week is the Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025.

This week I highlight the players I have ranked between 125 and 101.

As provided before, here is a quick breakdown of the 25 players in the rankings this week:

Let’s provide a quick breakdown of the 25 players in the rankings this week before diving into the rankings:

Age 20-24 – 4
Age 25-29 – 16
Age 30-34 – 5

Position Breakdown

SP – 5
1B – 3 | 2B – 6 | SS – 1
OF – 7
IF – 2
C – 1

The age range makes sense as anyone should start going for the younger players at this point outside of the top players who are older than 30. So seeing 16 players listed who are between the ages of 25-29 is not a surprise.

When it comes to the position breakdown, you see a lot of second basemen – six in fact – in this grouping. While there are some differences in the second basemen you will read about, these six players will basically provide the same production – though some of it coming in homers, some in steals or a combination. But overall, they are very similar to each other. Losing out on one of them shouldn’t be horrible if there are three more on the board waiting for you.

Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025: 175-151

Welcome back, friends, to another week of the Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025. The countdown to No. 1 continues as this week I look at the players ranked between 175 to 151. You will see that this grouping of players falls mostly into one age bracket while the positions vary.

The fact that many of the players are in the same age range is not surprising. A lot of the older players were previously ranked and many of the younger players are ranked higher. This group is a collection of players who are mostly proven commodities. Some still have room to improve, some are a question mark, but many are the players who are ranked below are the reason you win titles – they aren’t superstars, but they will provide solid stats that lead to titles.

Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025: 200-176

After two weeks of rankings where I lumped players ranked 400-301 into one group and then players 300-201 into a second group, this is the week in which I break out the rankings into groups of 25. For this week, that means players ranked 200-176.

The overall breakdown of this group tends to be a little older compared to those ranked higher. Eleven players are between the ages of 30-34, 11 are in the 25-29 age range and three players are 24 or younger.

As for the position breakdown, there are two relievers, two starting pitchers, one catcher, two third basemen, one shortstop and one DH. Nine players are outfielders, either at one outfield position or multiple, while another five are “utility” players, which for this purpose means they can play at least one infield and one outfield position.

Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025: 400-301

Happy New Year and Happy Holidays. I hope the holiday season has been one of joy and happiness for you.

That said, welcome to the first installment of the Top 400 Dynasty Players for 2025. This week and next I will take two giant bites out of the countdown as I rank the players from 400-301 this week and then 300-201 the following week. After that will come bite sized looks of the final 200 players.

I know for a fact that some of you will not like my rankings. But I have my biases and certain ways I evaluate fantasy players and have done so for decades. So take these rankings as a starting point and adjust as you see fit. No matter what, I hope these rankings will be a useful tool for you.

Secondly, you will not see any prospects in my rankings unless they have debuted in the majors. So you will not see Anthony Quinn ranked, nor Owen Cassie or a host of other top prospects. I also did not rank Kumar Rocker as 11.2 innings of work on the MLB level barely counts. But if you are wondering, I really like him as I traded for him in two leagues earlier this offseason.

With that said, let’s get started.
