Ranger Suarez is the greatest Suarez in the history of this country.” That’s me leaning into a store microphone in the freezer department at Costco before getting chased from the store. It’s drama, guys and five girls, and I like drama. *pushes bangs off forehead, turns to mirror* I’m ready for Close-Up. No, don’t zoom in! I have a pimple on my nose! I’m saying I was ready for Close-Up toothpaste. A little freshen up before the post. So, Ranger Suarez did yesterday the same as he’s done all year once again yesterday — 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 1.38. You might remember this tune I played last week when he threw another stunner, but if this was last year, he’d be a strong candidate for the Cy Young. No, I don’t think he should win it this year! I’m not freakin’ stupid. I’m just saying his year this year is no worse than the top years last year. Lot of years in that sentence; do better, says the thesaurus. He has a 9 K/9, 3.6 BB/9, 2.81 xERA, 3.55 xFIP and two miles extra on velocity this year. Top 2% barrel%, top 6% lowest exit velo, .197 xBA is top 10%–Okay, literally every number of his is tops in the league. He has a .157 BAA on his fastball alone! He compares favorably to pre-injury Dustin May and pre-this year Ryu. It’s no surprise he’s doing so well, all his pitches look the same coming out of his hand. He is the King of Pitch Tunneling. This year? Obviously take what you can get. Ranger Suarez has solidly put himself in the 2022 fantasy baseball conversation. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Bryce Harper – 2-for-4 and his 30th homer. He only had 29 homers yesterday, but turned out he had an extra one in the *pinkie to mouth* Harper.

Sam Hilliard – 1-for-3 and his 10th homer. His home run in the 9th inning gave the Rockies the win. After the game, Bud Black said, “Hilliard’s done everything we could ask of him. Look incredible in the minors in 2017 and 2018, then finally get called up in 2019, and get benched for some random vet who is no longer with the team, I’m gonna guess Ian Desmond. Then after being told in 2020, he’d be the starting…what position does he play? Meh, not important. We benched him for…hmm…Pat Valaika? Maybe. I don’t know. Then in 2021, he was sent to the minors for the seventh year to get some extra…uh…seasoning?” Then Bud Black looked around for someone to answer him, but no one could.

Antonio Senzatela – 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 4.11. He goes to the Braves next, and the Streamonator hates it and I’d hate to disagree with a robot. The future could catch up to me.

Tony Gonsolin – 3 IP, 1 ER, ERA at 2.79, as he was activated from the IL. Trying something out, I’m writing part of this blurb before the game, then we’ll see how well I do after. Before, “Gonsolin returns from shoulder inflammation, so I was surprised to see him not throwing with his opposite arm. Was he? Ah, I’m LA so the game is blacked out here. Or maybe there was cloud cover and the camera’s aperture was just really small? Did anyone see the game? I couldn’t; it was so dark on my TV screen. As for Gonsolin, I hope he’s good. Dot dot dot. In 2022.” After, “Well, I was right about the game being blacked out. Gonsolin threw a better couple innings than I expected, but still I’d be watching him for 2022.”

Tyler O’Neill – 1-for-4 and his 25th homer, and 2nd homer in as many games. Yesterday I said some shizz like O’Neill will be underrated going into next year even though he’s already had a solid year, this year. And that’s me paraphrasing some shizz from me! I will say this after saying I will say this, if O’Neill reaches 30 homers, he will be drafted as if he had a great year. If he finishes with 29 homers, he will be underrated. I’m not joking.

Jacob deGrom – Told reporters his UCL is “just fine.” I didn’t see the video of him discussing his UCL. Did anyone hear if he said el oh el?

Javier Baez – 2-for-3, 2 runs and a slam (29) and double legs (15, 16). If anyone tries to steer you away from a guy going 30/15/.250 in a 5×5 league, you should serious question their ‘pertness.

Jesus Luzardo – 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners (4 BBs), 8 Ks, ERA at 6.72. The strikeouts are why I was excited the Marlins went out and got Luzardo, but the walks are still concerning, so I’d be careful this year.

Jazz Chisholm – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 15th homer. Ain’t trying to go caca-cuckoo with prorating, but he’s only played in 103 games.

John Means – 7 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.42. Pretty happy to see him bounce back from his midseason injury. I moved on already, but still like to see him finish strong so can grab him for cheap next year. Again.

Carlos Hernandez – 6 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 1 K, ERA at 3.29. People who tell you that you have to draft starters early are those who usually disappear to play fantasy football before the baseball season is over and have no idea who Carlos Hernandez is.

Nicky Lopez – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer. For this home run, the Royals tricked the Orioles into pitching from the 2nd base bag and Lopez stood on the mound so he’d get an extra 60 feet to the fences.

Hunter Dozier – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 11th homer. Grabbed him in my RCL at Fantrax for the batty call, but something is wrong with that site and I kept getting messages that said my team is illegal and no stats would count, so what’s this? A booty call that was all a dream?

Stephen Vogt – 2-for-2, and his 6th and 7th homer. Stephen here to remind everyone to Vogt in the recall.

Adam Duvall – 1-for-5 and his 34th homer, and 4th homer in four games. Now I don’t know if he’ll hit a homer in his 5th straight game, but, if he does, he will hit another in the 6th.

Freddie Freeman – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 29th homer, hitting .293. Not fantasy related, but it feels like some team is about to overpay for a past-his-prime Freeman. Hey, I don’t care how a billionaire wastes his money, but Freeman is about 12 months of baseball away from being a 22-homer, .270 hitter.

Jorge Soler – 1-for-4 and his 23rd homer. Soler and Rosario are the world’s greatest tag team. One is rested, and the other comes in and homers. Call them the Homer Foundation.

Gerrit Cole – Says he should avoid the IL with his tight hamstring. Yanks are deep in the heat of the pennant chase, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cole early next week. Unlike the Mets, the Yankees don’t seem to make up fake injury reports.

Jameson Taillon – Hit the IL with an ankle tendon injury. Damn, that sucks, and not as in slurping, though tendons in soup is surprisingly yum.

Anthony Rizzo – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 19th homer. HR to the Izzo!

Gary Sanchez – 1-for-3 and his 21st homer. I see a lot of Yankee fans talking about how Sanchez has had a nice bounce back season this year. Wanna know how low the bar is for Gary? He’s hitting .213! Bounce back like one of the Milli Vanilli guys quitting music being a better choice than the other one who went to Sayonaraville.

Nestor Cortes Jr. – 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 2.70. Is it just me or do you hear Nestor Cortes Jr. and hear Nelson Cruz Jr.? Just me, huh? So, Cortes conquistador’d another solid effort and Streamonator is a little positive on his next, and I’d go all-in on him.

Randal Grichuk – 2-for-5, and his 22nd homer. Not sure if he’s available in 50% of leagues, and he won’t be in this afternoon’s Buy column, but he is the type to hit ’em in bunches like Mr. Chiquita Banana.

Bo Bichette – 3-for-5, 2 RBIs and a slam (22) and legs (22). Boba Chette with the slam and legs to show he’s got OCD.

Jose Berrios – 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 3.52. Someone asked yesterday if they should start Berrios. We went over this — just start him everywhere and hope at the end of the year he’s more better than worse.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – 1-for-5 and his 42nd homer, hitting .319. Cake Batter dunkin’ behinds his back over the Yankees, going for the AL MVP and I love it!

Reynaldo Lopez – 5 IP, 1 ER, 9 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 2.05. White Sox have a recent history of developing big upside arms. Giolito was drafted in the 2nd round this year (foolishly, but still solid, upside arm), but not that long ago he was Lopez. Then this year Cease was Lopez and now is Cease. And now Lopez is Lopez. Hmm, that’s massively confusing as I read it back, but Lopez is the kind of big arm that can become Giolito or Cease as soon as next year.

Chris Bassitt – Threw off flat ground. My not-so-random prediction is he comes back to throw in one of the final games of the season to a *packed crowd in Oakland. *around 2,000 people, including stadium employees.

Sean Manaea – 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.79. Now has back-to-back seven-inning Quality Starts, and is one of the few starters who actually looks better when you see his underlying stats, while not having terrible surface stats. What I mean is, usually a guy will have a better FIP than ERA, but it will be like, “Mike Minor has a FIP that is nearly one run better, but it’s still 4.29, so who cares? He has a 5 ERA, no thanks.”

Franmil Reyes – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 28th homer. Now I want 40 homers; el eff gee!

Oscar Mercado – 1-for-3 and his 4th homer. Hmm, wonder if I should write a Oscar Mercado 2022 sleeper. *dodges tomato* I was kidding!

Jose Ramirez – 1-for-3 and his 33rd homer, hitting .260. *pouring beer out for Jo-Ram’s career after Lindor left him, looks down, sees beer hitting someone in the gutter* “What happened, man?” Man in the curb looks up, sad, “I drafted Lindor.”

Cal Quantrill – 7 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.04. Think I’ve figured it out with the Guardians’ starters: You want the guys no one wants. Think about Bieber before everyone drafted him? Great! Plesac before everyone wanted him? Awesome! Next year, give me Eli Morgan!

Miguel Sano – 1-for-2 and his 26th homer, and 2nd homer in the last two games, and I said he’d hit two homers by Sunday, but didn’t put any money on it, because all my money is currently tied up in my new company, Vanmo. It’s like Venmo, but it sends money wirelessly with windowless vans.

Your Carlos Hernandez blurb made me laugh. He’s on all 3 of my money league teams. I’m definitely playoff bound in 2 and fighting for the final playoff spot in the 3rd. Here’s to hoping for big weekends from Bichette and Machado to make me 3 for 3.

For next week’s h2h matchup and I better off with Germán Márquez’s one start vs ATL or Kyle Gibson’s 2 vs the Cubs and Mets, counting QS instead of Wins.

Thanks for all the help throughout the season. You haven’t steered me wrong yet!

yeah yesterday fantrax had issues between probably like 9-noon daytime. wasn’t just your league there. delays on adds/drops, sometimes you’d have to drop a guy twice, some of those times the drop would actually show up in transactions twice, other times not etc

yeah the biggest issue i had was yesterday i was condensing rosters (they expand during slow draft and anybody with a flag can be in IR slot, but to start year ONLY those will current flag can so i gotta get everybody in line, meanwhile others are needing to add team named players to get to their min 7 in some instances). weird stuff, a QB got dropped that (16 teamer) will likely have numerous suitors, and he somehow didn’t go through WW’s, so i had to auto waive everybody. small mess for a few hours, yeah sunday might be a problem. being comish if somebody just say tells me what players they want to sub in i can handle it after the fact if this shit gets really crazy. guys being dropped multiple times before the system gives them roster space, getting errors when moving people into or out of IR slots etc. message board posts seemingly being input (you’d get the email that they were) but they weren’t for about an hour at one point.

grey,

there are 2 SPs out there on waivers for next week. Would you rather have

Kyle Gibson (vs CHC, maybe at NYM on Sunday) is Philly running out a 6 man rotation? that is what SON is showing and only has Gibson going once on Tuesday next week.
or
Rich Hill (vs STL, vs PHI)

Ah, now Sale tests positive.

For some reason I still had Alex Reyes in 1 of my lineups yesterday!

How’s this for my MI production last night: Bichette, Nicky Lopez, and Baez 8 for 13 with 3 HR and 3 SB.

Probably autocorrect, but it is Cortes, not Cortez.

With these two I can only start one at a time since they are only RP eligible and I’m looking to grab Kittredge who has SP/RP eligibility. Which guy would you drop between Diaz and Sewald?

Hey Grey,

Sorry, it’s a long one…

12-tm H2H cat keeper (keep 10) CATS – (9) R,H,HR,RBI,SB,BB,AVG,OPS,XBH – (8) W,CG,SV,K,GIDP,ERA,WHIP,QS. LIMIT of 3 moves per week.

Currently tied in this weeks matchup and need to make some roster moves. I’ve got G. Torres on my IL that I need to do something with. Trying to win this year but still keeping my 10 keepers in mind for next year. I acquired Torres this year with the hope he’d turn it around and live up to the original hype BUT at this point, I don’t think he’d be one of my top 10 keepers next year. Basically, if you also don’t think he’d be a keeper for me and he’s not playing well I may as well drop him for a hot bat. I think I’d be keeping 10 from (K. Marte, India, Seager, Hernandez, S. Marte, C. Yelich, E. Jimenez, Buehler, Nola, Ohtani (SP), Fried)

My matchup is close:
Hit stats I’m winning H, SB, BB, AVG, OPS and he’s winning R, HR, RBI & XBH
PIT stats I’m winning SV, GIDP, ERA and Whip while he’s winning W, K’s and QS’s

I was all set to drop C. Hernandez or J. Means but second guessing after their starts last night. I can always pick one of them back up for next week.

Optimally, I’d like to pick up a hot bat AND get an additional starter for this week. I essentially need to drop 3 (Torres, Means and Hernandez?) in total to be able to pick up 1 OR drop 4 guys (Torres, Means, Hernandez, ????, ?) to pick up 2.

Waiver
HIT – F. Schwindel (SF, SF), A. Duvall ( MIA, MIA), J. Candelario ( TB, TB), B. Dalbec (@CWS, @CWS – I think all are righties), A. Hays (TOR, TOR, TOR), N. Lopez (@MIN, @MIN), T. Mancini (TOR, TOR, TOR), R. Grossman (TB, TB)
PIT – T. Gilbert (@SEA), J. Suarez (@HOU), B. Singer (@MIN), K. Freeland (@PHI), J. Lyles (@OAK?)

My team:
C – G. Sanchez
1B – J. Votto
2B –K. Marte
3B – J. India
SS – C. Seager
CI – P. Goldschmidt
MI – M. Straw
LF – T. Hernandez
CF – S. Marte
RF – J. Soler
Util – C. Yelich
BN – E. Jimenez
IL – G. Torres

SP – W. Buehler
SP – Aaron Nola
SP – S. Ohtani
RP – J. Hader (RP)
RP – E. Diaz (RP)
P – J. Romano (RP)
P – M. Fried
BN – J. Means
BN – T. Mahle
BN – R. Suarez
BN – C. Hernandez
BN – B. Ober
IL – T. Glasnow (IL)
IL – A. Civale
Thanks, Marv

Just realized I’ve got the same question re: Eric Hosmer above as I do Brendan Rodgers. NL-only, do I drop him ROS for Edmundo Sosa, Alcides Escobar, Matt Duffy? I thought Rodgers was doing well for me at 2B, but 6/1/5/0/.241 over last 15 sure doesn’t prevent me from looking at the wire…

Thanks, as always!

I’ve got Eric Hosmer at 1B in an NL-only 5×5 league. He’s been meh (as you know), with important weeks coming up. For ROS, do I swap out for any of these: Brad Miller, Yoshi Tsutsugo, Colin Moran? Is Miller still considered a Hot Schmotato?

(By the way, I even compared schedules to see if any Coors trips are coming, and neither PHI nor SD have any rest of the way. But Hosmer has the disadvantage of 10 more games in SF and LAD and Miller will have none. [shrug emoji])

Happy National Swap Ideas Day! Years ago, I thought of a great idea to make fart-proof underwear…apparently they exist now. so there’s that

Anyway, trying to line up next week’s playoff run. Looking for saves & +SP matchups.

SP’s are available & SON at least “likes” their matchup:

– Logan Gilbert v. BOS (9/13)
– Sean Nolin v. MIA (9/13)
– Tony Gonsolin v. ARI (9/14)
– Tylor Megill v. STL (9/15 – SON seems to LOVE this one)

And below are some RP’s who could possibly get me some saves:

– Estevez (COL)
– Finnegan (WAS)
– Romo (OAK)
– Givens (CIN)

Would you add any of the above pitchers? If so, who would you drop?

Roster below:
12-team, 6×6 (OPS/QS), H2H, Redraft league

C: Kirk
1B: Freeman
2B: Altuve
3B: Arenado
SS: Story
IF: W. Franco
OF: Franmil Reyes, Adolis, Springer
UTL: Jazz
BN: Wisdom, Nicky Lopez, Rodgers
SP: Woodruff, Gausman, Ryu, Framber, Means, Sonny Gray, McClanahan, Urquidy, Ynoa
RP: Chapman, Kennedy, C. Green

IL: Nick Anderson

Thanks in advance!

I know, right?? the nerve!

and I’ve held onto Green for the ratios since no clear closer/ good SP have been available. I assumed he was the 1st drop, but figured i’d get your input before doing so since I had my playoff spot locked up. Also, there’s a limit of 6 moved/week… which is why i’m trying to plan ahead

and it looks like McClanahan just went to the IL, so I can move him and add one of the above pitchers too.

And I know both Kennedy & Aroldis have been hot garbage as of late, but aren’t they still their respective team’s closers?

thanks again

You make a valid point about the hot garbage…speaking of, I bet we could use the same fart-proof technology to make hot garbage less hot-garbage-y…

Anyway, I noticed both Romo & Chafin are there. while neither looks to be running away with the job in OAK, do you like Chafin over Romo by chance?

Bednar in PIT is also out there….but will PIT win another game this year?

thanks again for all your help today and throughout the season!

In a redraft points league which 3 out of the 4 would you rather have for the next 2 weeks of the playoffs (starting 9/13) – Villar, Ke’Bryan Hayes, David Fletcher or Alex Verdugo. Currently have Villar, Fletch and Verdugo but thinking about dropping one for Hayes. I could also drop either Winker or Tim Anderson to make room for Hayes but I’m hoping they will be back for that playoff stretch. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Had 3 starters going last night in a H2H playoff match. Ynoa, Berrios and Stroman. Had Quantril and Hernandez on the bench. 10 points for a win, so I needed at least 2 with the pitchers my opponent has left. I’ve watched the Mets for 40 years, this is the worst offensive version ever. Stroman up 2-0 Baez steals 2nd and 3rd, can’t get him in. Next inning leadoff triple Alosnso and nothing. Only win was Berrios, while the two bench guys got W’s. Very frustrating. I feel like I need to write this and you might read it to the end, so there we go. Try telling anyone else about Huascar Ynoa settling down after the first inning, and you lose that friend for life. If this is the end of my season, thx for the help this year. Oh one more thing. Despite three consecutive 0-fers and my having spent $22 and $31 for his months on the IL, I’ve still found myself becoming a Mondesi superfan.
Yesterday was his 324th MLB game.
Had he been blessed with Cal Ripken’s durability we’d be coming off his second 84/18/74/60/.252 season. Wow.
If only I played in leagues that pro-rated a few weeks to the whole year…
There’s always next year. (And I’ll probably be saying something similar then too)

Do you think Ozuna will face a suspension by the Braves? I know he’s entering the diversion program and will likely fulfill all of the qualifications ahead of or on time, meaning that the case/charges will probably be dropped. But the fact is is that he still did what he did (didn’t he?) and MLB has the right to suspend him, no? If I had to guess, I’d say at least 30 days, like Chapman, but I could see 60+.

Question about on the field now….is Wade Miley as good as his numbers indicate? He’s had solid stats for 3 of the last four seasons (and last year was his only real bad seasons but that gets a pass since it was a pandemic) but a few things worry me….age (35 next year), low k’s and his year with the Astros where he dominated for most of the year but seemingly shut down due to exhaustion and was awful his final month or so. Still, he has 6 pitches, locates well and gets a ton of ground balls. Would you add him in dynasty? He’ll be a free agent and could sign with a team that has a better ballpark for pitchers.

You’re talking to someone who lost out on adding him by an hour after seeing the news so I’m glad you’re thinking that he will be gone too. It would have been a speculative add.

As for Miley, you don’t think he’s made any changes? 2.57, 3.98, 2.89 ERA 3 of last 4 seasons minus the pandemic year. It’s okay if you don’t, but I was shocked at how decent he’s been in recent years and didn’t know if there was anything there. I guess not, but thought I’d ask.

Pretty good night for streaming. In 1 RCL I used 8 SP :

Carlos Hernandez KC
Reynaldo Lopez CHW
Jesus Luzardo MIA
John Means BAL
Cal Quantrill CLE
Antonio Senzatela COL
Ranger Suarez PHI
Huascar Ynoa ATL

Only 2 wins and 37 strikeouts, but a 2.05 ERA and 1.055 WHIP. Ian Kennedy messed it up a bit as my 1 RP, but considering my season ratios are 3.78 and 1.226, I’ll ignore that.

First question: Why haven’t you put Lynn on the IL?

It seems to have allowed you to pick up some players without recording your drops. I think you need to reach out to Truss. I believe as commissioner he can manually adjust the stats.

Grey!!!!

Great report, on a short night!! So, prorated your report goes from great to excellent!

a. Nicky Lopez for president! I’d vote for him even if he was Republican.

b. Picked up Reyes. Don’t need ‘per se’ saves but am wondering how they’ll use him in low-leverage situations. If he’s healthy he’ll still be useful, right? The slam he gave up to Vogelbach was a 97 MPH fastball just belt high down Broadway so maybe he just needs some confidence and better location.

c. Two teams have blown over the 1400 IP in one of my RCLs. I have 70 moves left. Would you go nuts streaming for Ks (I’m chasing 300 Ks)? How many good pitchers (>5.0$, SON) per week would you start?

d. Have a GREYT weekend!

e. Marx Brothers quote of the day for September 10, 2021

Jamison: ‘Any luck with the 4:30?’

Hammer: ‘Yeah. It didn’t hit me.’

Jamison=Zeppo; Hammer=Groucho

The Cocoanuts

Cheers,
Ante

Grey!!!

a. Yeah, haha! The 4.30 to Newark!

b. Starting Houck (@CHW), Morgan (home MIL), JoMo (@NYM) in one league and Houck (@CHW), Morgan (home MIL) in another. Would you add any of these pitchers tonight? I’d drop Leury Garcia (bench bat) and I could also drop JLowe (probably won’t start against Boyd).

1. Boyd (home, TB)
2. Megill (home, NYY)
3. Blackburn (home, Tex)

Cheers,
Ante

I’m in the last week before Playoffs holding the 6th seed in my keeper league

I’m in a Bye in my other league next week is the Semifinals.

For my keeper league this have 5 Adds left.

A) Are you starting Eduardo Rodriguez in BOTH leagues for his 2 starts Vs SEA and BAL next week?

2) Would you drop Marco Gonzales in my keeper league with 5 Adds left for Manea? Marco gets BOS next week and Manea gets KC

3) Arr you starting Eric Laurer next week @ DET?

Thank you and sorry for being a bit all over the place lol.
