I've been fielding a lot of questions recently about my own playing career and former prospect status (I haven't). What I've told people is that, unfortunately, there were no takers in the 40th round for a sub-.200 Division III college bat (this part is true). If there was ever a world where eighth-inning defensive replacements got a look, I was not around for that era. But what a truly fulfilling era that would have been. In the current landscape, it's harder than ever to have your name called on draft day. Even with last year's draft up to 20 rounds from five the year prior, fewer players are being drafted than 10, 20, 30 years ago. Not to mention, the quality of the talent from top to bottom is out of this world, forcing the competition for those spots to be fiercer than ever. I say this as a segue to this week's unveiling of college prospects 6-10 in my way-too-early 2022 draft rankings. None of the players I will talk about today have hit under .200, and I'm pretty sure they all could have topped my collegiate OPS several days out of the womb. They are, however, somewhat unconventional in a draft landscape that can find a red flag in anyone. Here's what we have: a five-foot-nine second baseman, a southpaw who allowed 13 runs to non-con competition in his first two starts last year, a catcher with 61 career games under his belt, an ACC corner outfielder (what an outlier!), and a pitching prospect that has thrown eight innings in two seasons. Bundle that all together, and you're asking yourself why you take prospect advice from a guy named Hobbs. Or maybe you're asking why some guy named Hobbs is openly admitting he sucked in college. Perhaps you're even second-guessing if Hobbs is even a guy at all, and is actually a beautiful maiden from a faraway land called Miamidelphia. If you're curious about the first two, fair. But if you're wondering about the third, then you're just plain weird. In which case, you've come to the right place. So here are college prospects six through 10 for 2022, without further adieu, just for you, and you and you and you.

It's officially the last week of fantasy baseball season which means for anyone who is out of title contention, fantasy baseball research season begins. For today's SAGNOF, I am going to open myself up to personal torture and I will try to rank closers for next season. For this exercise, I tried to give each team a projected saves leader based on guys who I expect to be on the roster for next season. This means, either signed through 2022 at least or they have a mutual option. I also included both Craig Kimbrel and Kenley Jansen who both should be available in Free Agency and should get another closer gig. So feel free to mock my picks and make sure to follow this list exclusively next March when you do your drafts.
We've come to the final Thursday of the regular season and not every race for the postseason has been decided. That's good news for us because teams who still have something to play for will be sending out their best. The downside of that is that you'll have to pay up for guys such as Bo Bichette, (SS: $3,800) He's pricey but oh boy has Bo turned into a fantasy stud this season. You love to see a guy that can hit near .300, approach 30 dongs, and swipe 20 bags. He does it all and that means monster point potential. Fire him up today with full confidence.

Not to come out with a hot take 18 hours after everyone, but Gerrit Cole has to win that game (6 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 3.23). Has to shutout the Jays. Scherzer would've. DeGrom would've. Corbin Burnes would've. Yeah, I said Corbin Burnes! They would've shut down the Jays. I'm glad the Jays were not shut down, don't get it twisted, as they say at anarchistic pretzel stands. I love me the Baby Jays. Wanna put food in their mouth and talk to their moms about how I used to watch their husbands play, and then become real chummy until I'm called Unkie Grey and am at their house for Thanksgiving! That's how much I love the Jays, but if you're Cole, you gotta win that. So, Bo Bichette (3-for-4) hit his 27th and 28th homer, as he led the Jays to victory as well as a lot of his fantasy teams. I don't mean he plays fantasy, I mean the teams he was on won--Ya know what? You know what I mean! Bo Bichette is the epitome of everything you want in fantasy. He's got 30-homer power, 30-steal speed, high contact, great lineup, plays every day and, if you say his name fast, it sounds like Boba Chette. For 2022 fantasy, there's so much talent in the game, but I could see struggling with trying to squeeze Boba in the top five because he will not suck, no matter the straw size. Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
I was putting the finishing touches on my top 10 prospects piece for the Miami Marlins when a curious news blurb came across my feed. The Pittsburgh Pirates would be calling up RHP Roansy Contreras to start Wednesday’s game. “Blimey!” I shouted like a scurvy landlubber walking the plank. “We’ve been hornswaggled!”
I was confused, in other words, and have been circling the briney deep in my mind ever since, sailing around the pros and cons like an old seadog scanning for land.
We've made it to the final week of the regular MLB season, friends, and somehow I'm both thoroughly relieved, and yet already feeling an intense sense of withdrawal. I don't have as many leagues going down to the wire as I feel like I usually do, so I'm already doing a lot of reflecting on what went right and wrong for my fantasy teams in 2021. For today, let's end the season on a positive note by taking a look at a few players that were instrumental to my second-half success in the leagues that went particularly well for me. While guys like Wainwright and Votto were mainstays in even the shallowest leagues by the end of the year, they also have another thing in common: they were strictly late round or deep-league options (or went undrafted altogether) to open the season.
Happy hump day everyone! I can’t believe is the last of the regular season, 6 months just flew by. A large chunk of teams have started resting players. We’ve seen plenty of guys go on the IL over the last couple days as well. Teams you should be safe to pick from include
Yankees,
Mariners,
Red Sox,
Blue Jays,
Dodgers,
Giants,
Phillies,
Braves, and
Astros. It’s okay to go elsewhere but look at game logs and lineups to see how their respective teams are managing them.

Roansy makes me laughsy. He sounds like the curmudgeon 60 Minutes guy has risen in Latin America and his name is Andy Roansy. "Why do I keep getting mail?" Andy Roansy yells in Spanish then pushes mail off his desk. Señor Eduardo Bradley chuckles and outros the show. So,
Roansy Contreras is being called up to start today vs. the Cubs. He made Itch's
top 100 fantasy baseball prospects. His numbers in Double and Triple-A this year: 2.64 ERA, 0.93 WHIP in 58.0 IP with 82 Ks. His stuff looks lightning-esque. Didn't feel like embedding a video, so I just made a super whatever tweet, I'm such a basic b*tch:
Prospect Itch said of Contreras, "Why is he being called up? Are the Pirates as stupid as you?" That's him on text to me. Itch said previously, "RHP
Roansy Contreras looking filthy in Pittsburgh. He topped out at 98.2 mph with just nine inches of drop on a four-seamer as he breezed through the ninth. He also threw a curveball with mucho inches of drop and an elite spin rate of 2924. Wonder if I could spin Grey's head that much." Not cool, man! I'd grab Contreras in any league where you're desperate. He'll only get one start, but so will everyone else. Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
It’s hard to believe there’s only one week to go in the Razzball Commenter Leagues. This marathon of a season has seen us torture ourselves for 25 long weeks, agonizing over batty calls, dipping into the streamers with mixed results, cursing players, and praising others. We’ve ignored our families, our jobs, and our personal hygiene and now it all comes down to the final week. You may smell like stale Funyuns, but dagummit, that virtual fantasy trophy is all yours! Speaking of trophies, FFB is looking to lock down their overall RCL Championship trophy. This is deja vu all over again for FFB. They held the overall lead into week 25 back in 2019, only to lose it right at the end to Backdoor Splitters. This year, it’s going to be Milo the Cat or Stl Squat Cobblers who have a shot to unseat the Babies. It’s a bigger cushion for FFB than in 2019, three points is a tough number to overcome and I really think they hold on here barring an incredible finish. We’ll go over some incredible weeks, check-in on the ‘Perts League finish and more in the week that was week 25:
It's coming to an end boys and girls. Don't be sad that it's over, just be happy that it happened. Seriously, we had a full season of baseball this year. That's reason enough to celebrate in my book. Unfortunately it led to some STRONG taeks early on in the season. One such strong taek was the demise of confirmed alien Juan Soto. Grey and yours truly, take a moment to dig in on Goato's second half, and his NL MVP chances. We talk some Shane Baz, a little Wander Franco, Robbie Ray, Hans Crouse, and Marcus Semien's record setting 2021. It's a hell of a show, we even banter less in the open!
There were no snazzy or slick puns I could think of for Kyle Tucker (I mean, Tucker, I don't even know her!)... see what I mean? But, I had thought about the "general idea" of Kyle Tucker and have come to the resounding conclusion that yes, he is a baseball player. Expert analysis at your finger tips, we are in the future. But let me expand! As the title kinda-sorta already spoiled, I just don't think Kyle Tucker is a baseball player, but also carries the potential to build upon this season and provide second-rounder value. Want to know why? Follow me! I mean, it's not literally following me, that's kind of creepy, just, you know, press that button below. I can see how confusing it can be...
There are entire industries based around the cultivation of focus. For neurodivergent people, focus is something we kind of tap into; we don't necessarily have it every minute of the day, but when I put music on and start my fingers typing at the keyboard, the
flow state comes and I'm able to direct my thoughts in a manner that stays, "Marcus Stroman good. Use him." I mean, it's the last week of the season, and we're in baseball chaos right now. Jack Flaherty pitched to, what, four batters the other night? He was supposed to be your SP1 this year. Gerrit Cole's given up like 10 runs in his last two outings. We're in the wild, wild west right now, and the best thing you can do is follow your own flow state, and to tap that (hehe!), I recommend going with the
Str0 State. Also, this is my final DFS article for the year. So sad to see the regular season go! (not)
