The itch that brings us back to fantasy baseball every day is a special little needler. No matter if your team went six whole days without a home run, and your top four picks are on the IL, or your hitters are only demolishing home runs off pitchers that you own, you still want back in. There are several reasons why we daily league people hear our phone alarm going off at 5:30am, snooze it, set it down…but then pick the phone back up to see if our waiver claims went unchallenged.

With the reported promotion of Paul Skenes to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon, it’s fair to wonder who could be primed to follow the fireballer as the No. 1 overall selection in the MLB Draft this July. Last year’s college trio at the top of the draft class was a historically strong group, led by Skenes and followed by outfielders Dylan Crews and Wyatt Langford. This summer is poised to have an equally-as-lethal top three, headlined by Georgia’s Charlie Condon and Florida’s Jac Caglianone, who are primed for an all-time great Golden Spikes race down the stretch. Arkansas southpaw Hagen Smith is right there with them as this year’s top collegiate arm, but what Condon and Caglianone are doing is truly historic and both players should be positioned firmly at the top of your first-year player draft boards. But who should go first overall and who should you have at No. 1 for your FYPD?
Please, blog, may I have some more? What is up party people? Feels like the injury bug has been extra hungry lately and you hate to see it. Steven Kwan has been a points league target of mine ever since he came to the majors and this was shaping up to be his best season yet. It’s still very early, but he was making […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?In our 43rd episode, Mike Couillard and Jeremy Brewer open with banter on the dreadful Cardinals season before discussing the latest moves and news including significant injuries plus prospect debuts. Then we select our first cards to enter the pantheon of the Player of the Month (POTM) PC, a new monthly segment we are launching. You can […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Often pitchers are kept in the minors so they can work on certain pitches. They reportedly need more polish. Pirates are the first team to hold a pitcher in the minors so they can polish something — the key to the city, which Paul Skenes will rightfully be receiving one day. Prolly after his first […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?As prospects in general have garnered increased hype over the past few fantasy-season cycles, the pool of post-hype prospects has also gotten deeper year over year. We turn the page in a hurry when a player struggles to capitalize on that first big chance, or that second big chance, or the third. Even the most patient players among us have to acknowledge reality after a while. We need these roster spots for the stats they can provide. Can’t just use our parents’ house as a free-rent incubator a la Erlich Bachman.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Like anything else at Razzball, I strive to find humor in the face of Fantasy Baseball. I devote this article to Razzball reader and commenter Brent who wrote last week in the comments, “Such a strange article. How can an article about steals not even mention Jacob Young. And Oswaldo Cabrera has one single steal […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?I tried and tried and tried to come up with a theme this week, and just couldn’t. I feel like George RR Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, and Scott Lynch all wrapped up in one fantasy article. So, instead, I just posted a bunch of guys and then stole an idea from a colleague. Alec Bohm: I’m […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?I could not have been more wrong last week on the Texas Rangers stack against Trevor Williams. Hand up, that’s on me. We’ll be better this week. We’re going to start with some fantastic value here in Jordan Hicks at only $6,800. The only cause for hesitation is that he’s playing at Coors Field. On […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Jurickson Profar (1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 6th homer, hitting .338) is a top 20 player on the Player Rater. Not the last-7 day rater, the season-long. Yup. With that in mind, in a tie game, Mike Shildt removed Profar from the game for a defensive replacement. He removed his leadoff man. A guy who […]
