What is up party people? Welcome to the second half. We should be in line for a thrilling sprint to the finish as some players and teams chase history. I’ll keep this short and sweet but here are my big guns for the rest of the season. Go out and win a championship or two.
1) Shohei Ohtani – In daily leagues he is still by far the best fantasy asset. A potential deadline move will do nothing to diminish his status as a cheat code.
2) Ronald Acuna Jr – Is he about to go 40/80? Is that even possible? We all knew he was good but this is just absurd. And he’s doing it all with a .330 batting average. Not to toot my own horn, but before the season I did say I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the number 2 overall pick next year. Well, I did way way underestimate his steals, so I guess you can’t win em all.
3) Mookie Betts – The man can hit and has a stacked lineup around him. He isn’t running much this season but fortunately, we don’t care about that as much for points leagues. The rest of his numbers are great
4) Jose Ramirez – He’s great, but you knew that already.
5) Juan Soto – Yeah he’s a great hitter and all but can he steal 80? Nope, but he’s still really awesome and his supporting cast is very strong.
6) Freddie Freeman – I’m very impressed by the speed, but his power is the main attraction. Like Mookie, the supporting cast is strong. So yeah, he’s pretty good.
7) Vladimir Guerrero Jr – He just won the Home Run Derby, so that’s something. The power is for real, and I’m honestly surprised to see that he only has 13 at the break. Wait that can’t be right… seriously, only 13? That total may shock you but it’s true and he has the talent to blast 20 post break.
8) Shohei Ohtani – Yep, he’s top 10 just as a hitter. He has been blasting bombs and this is where I will rank him for weekly leagues. If he ever gets a 2 start week then slot him in at pitcher but he has incredible value just as a hitter.
9) Kyle Tucker – Boo him all you want but he’s a darn good hitter.
10) Spencer Strider – His mustache is nothing short of majestic. Oh, and so is his pitching. You want Ks and innings, he will give you both.
11) Fernando Tatis Jr – The suspension gave him a bad rap and a late start to the season. I fully understand why he was avoided in drafts, but since then he has been excellent. He does everything you want and then some. Take out his suspension and he would have easily been a top 5 pick.
12) Gerrit Cole – Sticky stuff or not, he is still an elite pitcher. Let the Ks rain down on ya.
13) Aaron Nola – The beginning of the season was rough he really turned things around. Stay the course, the punch-outs will be there.
14) Max Scherzer – I like him to rebound in a big way for the second half. He has elite stuff and the strikeouts have been there. Don’t worry, he can be so much better.
15) Corbin Burnes – Likely drafted as one of the top pitchers, he really hasn’t lived up to his lofty billing. Look for a big second half.
16) Corey Seager – Wasn’t really a big fan going into the season but he’s looked pretty good so far. The Rangers have looked strong on offense (6 All-Stars) so there’s plenty of opportunity for his stats to pile up.
17) Pete Alonso – The Polar Bear has big time power. He’s on pace for 50, which doesn’t feel like a lot but would still be a very impressive total.
18) Framber Valdez – The numbers look strong and with his supporting cast, his win total could be looking pretty nice as well.
19) Bo Bichette – Solid power and a great batting average have made him a better points league player than I expected. I’m ready to buy in for the second half. He has the tools to be great.
20) Shohei Ohtani – As just a pitcher, he’s still a top 20 guy. Yeah, he’s that good.
