I suppose if we're being alphabetical, this is week Y. If you're a Rush fan, consider it like YYZ. I mean, I think airports are chaotic polyrhythms too.
There's a lesson to be learned here: It's not the stimulus, but the response. You can't control everything. What you can control, is your response to stimulus. Maybe you're in a chaotic airport -- how do you keep your cool and have a fun flight when a bar tab costs $90? Or maybe you're listening to a track in 5/4 -- what do you do with that extra information?
Or maybe -- just maybe -- you're in the championship week of your fantasy baseball league. I hope you are.
We’ve arrived at the final week of the 2023 regular season, and what a wild season it’s been. As we’ve seen, the new rules have boosted offense, particularly batting average and stolen base totals, and the new draft pick compensation has allowed us to see more prospects earlier than ever before. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Good day, Razzball DFS’ers!
Josh Jung (3B: $4,800) travels to Anaheim tonight and looks to crush the dreams of the Angels and their starter, Patrick Sandoval. Since he came into our lives, Jung has been a dream against left-handed pitching, with a gorgeous .311 ISO and .441 wOBA. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Are the Rangers the American League's answer to the Braves? In this Ted Talk, he will discuss...*nudges my dog, Ted, to talk*...Go ahead, boy, say something. C'mon, stop humping! Oh, are you doing that as a nod to Semien? You are so clever! Just like me for drafting Marcus Semien (2-for-4, 26th and 27th homers)! What's that, boy? What does attacking the mailman mean? The mailman's name is Garcia? Oh, wow, for Adolis Garcia (1-for-4, 36th homer)! Jesus, you are so unbelievable! Okay, what are you doing for Corey Seager (1-for-3, 2 RBIs, 33rd homer)? *Ted does nothing* C'mon, boy, I'm bored...Bored...Borey...Corey! Wow, my dog is so smart! There's no one smarter, is there boy? Wait a minute, smarter...Evan Carter (1-for-4, 2 RBIs, 4th homer)! Okay, let's see what you have for Leody (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 13th homer). *Ted joins a cult* Wow, brilliant! Thanks for joining me for my Ted Talk! Anyway, here's what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Well, here it is.
The long marathon of the 2023 MLB season is coming to a close. This is the final week of regular season games, and the final week of (I’m assuming) your roto leagues.
I don’t generally keep stats on this kind of thing, but this may be the only week all season long when the Top Shelf is the largest bucket of pitchers in the Dive Bar. Please, blog, may I have some more?
I can’t believe we’re writing the final article of the year! That always saddens me because I truly love writing these streamers articles. It also led to one of my best seasons ever, landing in the semi-finals of 24 of my 31 head-to-head leagues. Please, blog, may I have some more?
I was surprised to see the Rays promote top prospect 3B Junior Caminero. Could be they’ve got a loophole through which they can add him to the playoff roster. Could be they plan to have him break camp with the club next season and want him to get acclimated for a week or so and then feel like a big leaguer all winter long. That’s the takeaway that matters most to our game. After the news of Wander’s lust(s) echoed across the internet, people speculated the fallout could speed up Caminero’s timeline. I didn’t think so because Tampa’s always loaded with functional major league options across the infield, but today I think that’s more or less what happened. Not that we’re likely to ever find out.
After the slog and grind of six months sorting through statistics and information, watching days’ worth of baseball, and agonizing over the newest pitcher call-up, the long journey of the 2023 season has finally arrived at its end.
I’ll admit, this has been one of my least successful years (maybe spilling thousands of words each week here may have disseminated any secrets I had to all of my leaguemates), but it has been wildly entertaining. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Sometimes you just have to give credit where credit is due. The Seattle Mariners scouting department should stand up and take a bow for seeing something in Bryan Woo that many other teams did not.
Woo has been a huge boost to a Seattle pitching staff that has suffered through a series of injuries this season. But very few people outside of Seattle fans probably knew who Woo was before the start of the year.
Woo was drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 draft out of Cal Poly. Being drafted in the sixth round isn't bad, but the Mariners took him despite undergoing Tommy John surgery that year and with Woo posting a career 6.36 ERA and 1.731 WHIP in 69.1 innings at Cal Poly, appearing in 31 games and making six starts.
While he had a horrid ERA and WHIP, Woo had a great K/9 rate of 11.6. However, he also had a BB/9 rate of 4.0 and allowed 89 hits in those 69.1 innings of work.
But those numbers and the fact Woo was coming off TJ surgery did not scare away Seattle.
Reigning MVP and big toe ligament injury spokesperson Aaron Judge plead his case to himself on a historic Friday night where went 4-for-4 with 6 RBI and he hit his 33rd, 34th and 35th home runs. Sweet sassy molassy! Oh right, I forgot he can do that. Please, blog, may I have some more?
How are we doing, Razzballers?!
Baseball season is wrapping up for some of us now. Congratulations to those who are still in it to win it whether it’s in your fantasy team or the team you root for in real life. Please, blog, may I have some more?
