We’re back with the Razzball Pod, and on today’s show we talk about the Top Chef finale and Grey’s NL-only Tout Wars team – one of those things went really well! You’ll have to listen to find out which – that’s called a tease! After breaking down Grey’s auction-drafted squad (which you can follow along and read more in-depth here) we delve into some Spring Training news including Brad Boxberger‘s injury, Juan Nicasio‘s crazy run his past two preseason starts, and a deep sleeper for OBP/Pts leagues. Today’s Podcast brought to you by Grey’s undergarments! Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

Mmmmmm, look at dem sexy graphics!

The inaugural draft of the Team-Based Razzball Elite League concluded this Sunday, full of mystery, intrigue and MURDER! As in, I’m gonna murder the Phillies for sniping Amir Garrett at the end there, stupid rebuilding NL teams!

REL teams in the initial season began with keeping 17 players on their active roster, leaving 8 remaining spots to be filled with a $100 auction budget. Scrubs going for mad cash! It was a draft we’re likely never going to see anything quite like again, as every following season is a 3-round supplemental snake… I’m going to always cherish the inaugural REL auction draft!

As with the REL Hoops League, yearly winners will get their pennant retired on the footer graphic and is my new primary goal every fantasy baseball season. Get that Brewers ink up on the rafters! Unfortunately it’s going to take a season or two of rebuilding to even be in the conversation, but I’ve never done a full rebuild in a dynasty before! Should be fun…

We’ll be posting updates once a week during the regular season, giving the other 29 REL GMs and myself a chance to recap their past week and explain their decisions. We’ve already gotten some big trades in the NL! Here’s how the draft went down and what the REL owners think about their year one teams:

Bringin’ in da star powah! Today on the Razzball Baseball Pod we discuss sleeper hitters who could vault into the second round by 2017, which Grey of course uses as yet another platform to talk about Delino DeShields. We get it already! This has become madness… (Speaking of madness, come and join the Razzball Basketball Tourney Pool!) We then interview Top Chef Season 1 Winner Harold Dieterle and get a behind-the-scenes look at the show and a more in-depth explanation of why you can’t make “faux gras” in 3 hours. Grey is so multi-lingual with his French! Then we wrap up with some news and notes since our last show, including some early standouts through the first few weeks of Spring Training. Grey and the crew are back from the desert, and ready to give us the lowdown on Spring Training performances! Unfortunately, it sounds like Grey didn’t see anyone too good, except we do get a nice under-the-radar sleeper at OF. We then talk the Brett Anderson injury and the impact on the Dodgers rotation, Aroldis Chapman‘s suspension, and some sneaky speed that was just signed in ChiTown. We did too much agreeing on this podcast, I need to get Grey fired up again next show! Commenters – let me know if Grey ever got irked at any of your comments to him, and I’m going to fuel the fire! Oh man, baseball is almost back!

This has been an epicly tough offseason…  Mainly because it took me like 3 weeks and countless hours to try and get these rankings done…  How the hell does Grey do it?!  Probably by not watching any TV or movies; he STILL refuses to catch up and watch The Fifth Element!

Then again, I went from 6700 words in my yearly magnum opus in 2015 to 9500+ this time!  JB-Full-Of-Words!  I dunno if J-FOW is a new acronym I want though, I sound like the nerdy, fantasy baseball brah from Jersey Shore.

I’m absolutely pumped for another season of Pitcher Profiles, a full season with my new computer for the sexier new pitcher GIFs, flashing around my very own, spiffy Gamescore+ stat, and a season to hopefully forget the epic Greek tragedy of Shane Greene.  Super Greene!

If you missed the wrap up at the end of last year, you can check out how my 2015 pre-ranks fared against Grey and ESPN.

Let’s get down-n-dirty into it!  Especially since we’re nearing 9600 words with this open now…  Sheesh!  Someone get this guy an editor!  As always, please shoot your comments below on what ya think, and happy pitching to us all in 2016!

Whew, things get spicy this morning on The Razzball Baseball Podcast! Hopefully you like our new publish time, and can enjoy Grey and I yelling at each other during your morning commute! On today’s show we recap the news since the last pod including Dexter Fowler‘s return to the Cubbies and a sleeper OF situation in Cleveland. Then the hot tamale. We debate Grey and I’s (grammatical error just for you!) SP ranks. My top 100 SP will be up Friday morning, but Grey still dissected it like a frog in a 3rd grade classroom. We get heated over the sleeper potential for Joe Ross, Yu Darvish‘s impact off TJ, but make amends with a collective drooling over Carlos Rodon. Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast, now with more arguing!!!:

On a special edition Razzball Baseball Pod, I get to sit down with Rudy Gamble and break down his 2016 15-team mixed LABR draft. Huzzah for the deep leagues! We first start with headlines in baseball that got all sorts of out-of-date due to news right after we recorded, then talked some of Rudy’s draft strategy and break down most of his picks and the machine-like decision making that went into them. “It’s IN the computer!” The first-round selection of Kris Bryant drew a lot of flack, Rudy goes through who he felt were value picks, and a few prospect selections he made at the end of the draft. PS – Starting tomorrow, we’re moving the Podcasts to Tuesday mornings! Unlike our former pre-taping timeline, we’re now going to record much closer to the publish date to give you the Razzball goods without being in our time machine. So we’ll be back tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM EST!

We’re back for more with The Razzball Baseball Pod, and on today’s show we introduce the world to Grey’s true love. No, not Cougars, but close! We then dive into Grey’s OF ranks, where we hotly debate the difference between teammates Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte, Grey’s hatred of A.J. Pollock, and an absolute love for Gregory Polanco. So many Pirates in the outfield! We also go through a few sleepers we like, then talk closers and strategy for building your bullpen. Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

Special Note: Thanks to everyone who showed interest and joined! Unfortunately, this league is now full. But we are taking a list of replacement owners for any unforeseen events that cause a vacancy in the comment section, so be sure to leave your info there…

Razzball Nation!

The Baseball Razzball Elite League is here!

Oh man, I haven’t been this excited since the Brewers traded for CC Sabathia.  Has anyone thought back on the irony of CC playing for a team named about alcohol creation?  Cust kayin’!

So over on Hoops, we’ve had a ton of fun creating The Razzball Elite League, made for the deepest of deep and faintest of heart.  Or not the faintest…  Don’t you not want faint?!  Worst open ever!

I gotta say, commenters are my heroes.  Who would’ve thought someone named Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo would be the inspiration for what will easily become my favorite fantasy league?!  But last year, seeing their league listed in a comment here, got my balls rolling.  No, not dropping, OK?!  Jo Jo Jr was my flash of genius in creating the REL Baseball League, but it may be my flash of overly-obfuscating, we shall see!

I’m not going to list out the full rules, since that would REALLY be the worst post ever.  So here’s the Cliff’s [Lee] Notes – The Razzball Elite League is a team-based dynasty, where you have to ALWAYS own 15 players from your parent team’s roster.  There’s obviously 30 MLB teams, so it’s a 30-team league, however split into 15-team AL only and 15-team NL only leagues.  The two leagues are Roto, and play through the first 148 games.  Then the final two weeks, the pennant winners of the AL and NL Roto leagues play each other in a H2H World Series.  On top of your 15 player quota from your parent team you manage a full 25-man roster (with a lot of DL and a few NA spots) and manage a farm system with your parent team’s prospects.  It’s going to be a fun way to blend real-life MLB situations (monitoring trade markets, tanking, contacts, etc.) with the standard 5×5 roto fantasy system.

The Razzball Pod is back! On today’s show we blitz through some minimal news from last week including the Mat Latos signing, but we spend the majority of our show wrapping up Grey’s infield ranks. We start with 2B and both really like Rougned Odor, Grey buries some vets, and then there’s nothing like digging deep into the SS pool! Maybe we should re-title the SS pool the Deadpool. We then wrap up with some 3B discussion and a new dynasty league announcement. If that’s not a reason to listen the whole way, then I dunno what is!
