The Pirates recalled 2B Nick Gonzales, who was slashing .257/.370/.450 with six home runs and one stolen base in 57 Triple-A games and striking out 28.6 percent of the time. He’s been better in June, slashing .270/.440/.460 with one home run and a 21.4 percent strikeout rate. He has to be on his game in the pitch selection department because his swing doesn’t have a ton of variability, and he’s no threat on the bases. Took him four attempts to score that one steal, and that’s no longer just a fantasy baseball problem. The 2023 version of baseball all but requires a team populated by functional baserunners.

When George Springer signed with the Toronto Blue Jays ahead of the 2021 season, it was assumed by many Houston Astros fans that speedster Myles Straw would be the team's center fielder for years to come. But that assumption  came to an abrupt end on July 30, 2021, when Straw was traded to the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians). Coming back to Houston was relief pitcher Phil Maton, who filled an immediate need. and a young 22-year-old catcher who was playing in Class A. The Real Centerpiece? Because Maton had major league experience and immediately moved into the Astros bullpen, he appeared to be the centerpiece of the trade. But that may not be the case as Diaz was showing talent at a level greater than being just a throw-in for organizational depth. Diaz, who signed for $25,000 out of the Dominican Republic when he was 16, hit .355 with a .503 slugging percentage in the Rookie-level Arizona League at the age of 18 during his first season as a pro in the United States. Since then, all he has done is hit for average as his career minor league batting average of .321 proves. But he not just a player who hits for average. As he has grown into his body, his power has developed as well. Let's dive more into Yanier Diaz.

The legend continues…Reds infielder slash phenom slash messiah Elly De La Cruz lifted the Cincinnati Reds onto his back Friday night doing it all quite literally by hitting for the cycle to upset the consensus best team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves, Friday night in an absolutely wild slugfest that extended the Reds win streak to a historic 12 games in a row. Please, blog, may I have some more?

Colton Cowser sounds like one of those goofily-named foods that the Brits send over here. "Would you like a Peek Frean?" "No, they are too serious for me." "Would you like a Curly Wurly?" "No, my good, sir. I cannot have a Curly Wurly, they are too disruptive on my tum-tum." "I see, I see, how about a Colton Cowser?" "Are those the lavender-scented candies?" "No, they're striking out too much since their return from the MiLB IL, and Aaron Hicks is hitting too much. There's no room for Colton Cowser in the Orioles' lineup." "Really?" "I kid! Of course, I want a Colton Cowser! I love those lavender-scented hard candies, and Cowser has big power, speed and should hit for a good average. Those strikeouts are only temporary, my good man! Speaking of temporary, that's what Hicks is too. Yes, I do believe I will take a Colton Cowser in every league with the hope he is up soon and can go 15/15/.260 in only a half a season. Giddy up, my good sir, giddy up!" Anyway, here's some more players to Buy or Sell this week in fantasy baseball:

Happy Summer, friends! Even though the season may have just officially arrived, that means we’re suddenly very, very close to the halfway point of the MLB season. While the upcoming All Star break is obviously a convenient time to take a step back and regroup as a fantasy owner, why not get a jump on mid-season team management while we still have an entire half season to go? Please, blog, may I have some more?

Huh, weird. 4,030,000 results but Google knows which one to feature. And some of y'all say AI is bad. AI, tell me why people are against AI. "They're not, Grey. Everyone loves AI." Oh, okay, cool! Joe Ryan (9 IP, 0 ER, 3 hits, zero walks, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.98) wasn't necessarily an unpopular call by me. He still had an ADP of 144 at the time I published my post, and drafted as late as 216th overall. Did I move the market on him? I like to think so, but even if he moved up to 80 overall, Sandy Alcantara was going at 25th overall, so was there value still to be had on Joe Ryan? Yeah, I like to think there was. Is this entire lede just me patting myself on the back? You'll get over your scoffing and allow me one occasionally! Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
I have a problem. It's a problem usually emblazoned onto a fantasy site with two upper case letters in bright red, my scarlet letters. NA. Not Available. I know this is the true meaning of the acronym. Any player with this suffix affixed to their names are in the minor leagues, unable to contribute to our MLB squads unless you have cooler league rules than mine. My problem is rather simple. I haven't had a team without an NA player for at least the past 5 years. I do not have an NA slot in any of my leagues.
Norman Schwarzkopf Jr. was a general in the United States Army who planned and coordinated military operations against the Iraqi Army in 1991, earning the nickname Stormin' Norman in the process. Whether that was because the campaign was named Operation Desert Storm or due to the blitzkreig nature of the attack is up for debate. Regardless, the forces he directed advanced swiftly with ferocity, overwhelming any resistance and defenses they encountered. The same could be said about the start to the season for Nolan Gorman of the St. Lou
What is up party people? We all love guys who come out hot but sometimes it takes them a minute to get things going at the plate. Michael Harris II is not only alive he is thriving. Did you know he's batting over .400 the past two weeks? Not only that he has 4 home runs and 4 doubles in that span. That is a man on a mission. He might be a little streaky but I really hope you held onto him though his rough start because he is a stud and he is about to make you regret it if you dropped him.
