This week, I want to bring up a topic before it blows up my comment section as it seems to every season.  This is something veteran RCLers will recall (and likely will be utilizing) and you’ll also be familiar with this concept if you play in Yahoo Pro Leagues or something similar.  The idea is that you can maximize your pitching counting stats by manipulating the day you go over your 1400 IP.  In the ESPN days, this was manipulating the day you went over the 180 GS limit by getting to 179 GS and then loading up 9 starters and hitting 188 GS.  The same thing applies here with the IP limit (and also in Yahoo leagues) in that on the day you go over the 1400 IP limit all of your pitching stats count for that day.  So, let’s say you work it so you get to 1398 IP, then you load up 9 starters the next day.  If all 9 starters last 5 IP, you’d hit 1443 IP and thus gain an extra 43 IP of strikeouts and possibly earn an extra win or two along the way.  The risk is obvious.  I have a hard enough time pulling one streamer out of the free-agent pool that won’t obliterate my ratios, never mind nine!  Unless you are holding a slim lead in the ratios that you don’t want getting ruined, there’s not much to lose in maxing out your stats though.  So far we’ve had one manager take a semi-shot.  We’ll take a look at how they made out and more from the week that was, week 24 below:

What happens when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object? Bad movies? Awkward metaphors? Strained fantasy baseball pieces? Yeah, it's the latter there. The Dodgers are playing in Coors Field tonight against surprise ace Antonio Senzatela. According to old-school baseball data, the over/under on the game should be around 97 runs, with the Dodgers winning by a 30 run margin. According to Senzatela's recent streak of 7 quality starts, he'll be the contrarian pitcher option of the week. Now you're presented a quandry worthy of Rebecca Black in her famed song "Friday," -- which seat will you take? New to FanDuel? Scared of feeling like a small fish in a big pond? In the late-90s, I worked as an au pair in The Bahamas, one of my favorite gigs post-college. I remember watching an eighteen-month-old Jasrado Prince Hermis Arrington Chisholm Jr. I would put on John Coltrane, on his baby finger, because I didn't have a record player, and I would spin the record real fast so it made sound, and little Jasrado Prince Hermis Arrington would giggle. One time, while I was balancing the record on his finger, I went by the window to smoke a jay, closing the window so not to lose any of that puff. When I was finished, I returned to Baby Jasrado Prince Hermis Arrington's finger again to spin the record, and, when I did, he was wearing dark sunglasses, and a beret and I said to his parents, "You should call him Monica Lewinsky," and they nodded, saying, "They would take it under advisement." Always felt like they were patronizing me. I wonder what they ended up nicknaming him--Wait a minute! Could that baby have been Jazz Chisholm Jr.? Nah, that would be way too coincidental. Yesterday, Jazz did exactly what makes him so special, going 2-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBIs with a double slam (16. 17) and legs (22). Jazz is one of my most highly anticipated guys for 2022. His strikeouts (29%) are a little high, but an inflated BABIP (.330-ish) evens out his average at .250 and that feels like it will easily repeat or get better, and I'm counting on better. In 2022, he is a handful of guys who could go 25/25. And that's a small handful. Like a baby hand that can play a Jazz record. Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
We live in a post-sleeper world. Grey is more prescient than most, but he is onto something (and also petty as heck) when he urges certain players to continue tanking so their draft price is cheaper next season. I use the term tanking a bit freely, as I am a bird (Remember “Free As a Bird?” That John Lennon demo tape that the surviving Beatles overdubbed to make a “new” Beatles track that sounded exactly like a Tom Petty track, because you just realized George Harrison played on all the great Petty albums? And then McCartney added that cloying bridge? I know it’s hip to bash the Beatles, but I studied them for my extremely useful BA in Music. I’ll make sure to work my track-by-track dissection of the White Album into my weekly missives for the few remaining Beatles fans willing to weather criticism). Where was I? Aha. The post-sleeper world.
Hey friends! Are you in your imaginary baseball management championship bracket right now? Or at least the consolation bracket? I know we're winding down and the vast majority of players are just awaiting some solid playoff baseball DFS. But for those of you still in the season-long baseball basket, let's see if we can't get you a couple starters that will save your season -- or starters you might want to stay away from.

Winding down the baseball season here we have a nice gem of a slate for you. I couldn't get past Robbie Ray's dominance of the Tampa Bay Rays this year having already faced the Rays 5 times this year going at least 6 INN in every start with double digit strikeout performances in two of them and a 13K outing in his last start when he faced these same Rays. Robbie Ray ($11,000) is the most expensive pitcher on the slate today but is worth the price you need to pony up for him as the Rays have struggled a bit in September and haven't been able to figure out Ray in 5 starts and don't see anything to make me believe they do now. Play him with confidence and you will still get some nice hitters in your lineups. New to FanDuel? Scared of feeling like a small fish in a big pond? With austere white hair and a black turtleneck, Shane Baz Luhrmann, one of the Rays' top pitching prospect, spoke in a deep German accent, "Now, it's time on Sprockets when I'm called up to the dance," and, with that, Shane Baz and a monkey danced around in the press conference to announce his promotion to the majors. The Rays decided to add some intrigue into the final two weeks of the season, calling up, Shane Baz who can touch 100 MPH. That's miles per hour not the number of Moulin Rouges per hour you can watch when they're on fast forward. That's six. In Itch's latest top 100 fantasy baseball prospects, he had Shane Baz coming in at 37th overall. As Prospector Geoff said a few years ago, "Baz is a fire-balling Texan with a varied stable of offerings. His fastball is a plus pitch featuring a velocity range between 91-98, with two plane movement. It’s a pitch he really has feel for, which is why the variance is so great with the pitch’s velocity. Baz’s pitchability and feel are truly impressive for a prep player. His ability to take something off, and reshape his pitches gives him two distinctive plus offerings in his high 80’s cutter and low-mid 80’s slider. He also features an average curveball, and a work in progress change that shows encouraging run. Baz’s talent is in good hands in the Pirates organization." And I am laughing very loudly at that last part. Yes, the Pirates traded him to the Rays. Why? Because the Pirates know no (stutterer!) limits to their tanking. In all leagues, I'd grab Baz to try to catch lightning in a bottle. Anyway, here's what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:
Well, baseball fans. Championship week is here for most of us. It's been a long season, and the dog days of summer are over but the finish line is in sight. If you made it to the big stage I wish you the best of luck, if you didn't, well... there's always next year as they say. So with that said let's move on to the injuries of the week. Here's the injury news of the week. Hyun-Jin Ryu was placed on the 10 day IL with neck stiffness. In Yankee news, Jameson Taillon is set to make a rehab appearance this week. Also, Domingo German will make a rehab appearance this week and should be back in the majors soon. And finally! the long-awaited return of Luis Severino, he will be activated from the IL this week. Also, Framber Valdez will return to the Astros rotation on Monday. Chris Bassitt pitched in a simulated game last week and could be back sooner than expected after his horrific incident with a baseball. And lastly, the reigning AL Cy Young winner Shane Bieber made a rehab start last week and we could see him return to pitch a game before the season ends. That's the news, now let's go win some championships.
The fantasy baseball season is winding down, and if you are like me, you are constantly looking at your phone and the live scoring. Did Jose Altuve collect that much-needed RBI? Did Ozzie Albies swipe a bag that you have to have in order to overtake your opponent in steals. These next few days and weeks are going to be nerve wracking. Making things even worse is if you have a player go on the IL or your second baseman is currently mired in a slump. The top players aren't just sitting there on the waiver wire to be added, so adding the right free agent could be the difference between winning the title and being the best of the losers. Before we talk about who some of those key free agents may be, let's look at the rankings, taking into account that they mostly reflect what they have done for the entire season. But I'll also touch on the players outside the rankings that should be watched or added in the next few days.
How the hell are we down to the final two weeks? After what felt like a long season, it's sprinted to the finish line. The good news is that many of my leagues are still alive, and I can't wait to break down the streamers for this week. What does need to be mentioned is the volatility of these final few weeks. More random occurrences happen in these last 14 days than at any point in the regular season, and it can make picking streamers a challenging task. In any case, we love some of the two-start guys, so let's kick things off there!
I usually like to pounce on the weakest SP's and start filling in my hitters but today there's actually several solid pitchers that had me going up and down the list trying to find a weak SP to feast upon.  SP Eric Lauer $8800 is NOT one of those and gets the Cubs at home.  He's 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA over 19.1 frames in his last three outings and the Cubs are losers of 4 straight.
