As we approach Memorial Day and the week eight recap of the Razzball Commenter Leagues, our league standings have stabilized a bit. Those teams who got out to 30 point leads at the end of April have drifted back to the pack (hopefully), and even those teams who were sitting in last place (I had more than a few of those) have chipped away at the deficit (though not as much as I’d like). We have officially passed the quarter pole. We’ve also passed the Preakness, which reminds me that the quarter pole in horse racing is actually the marker that the race has a quarter mile to go, not that it’s ¼ done. Thus, there is no quarter pole in baseball so I shouldn’t use that phrase even though it’s pretty common. Please, blog, may I have some more?

When you look at pitcher heat maps, you will see a red circular shape where the pitcher most often hits the catcher’s mitt. Some pitchers have two spots they like to target in the zone, but most have one particular spot they like to focus inside the zone. Please, blog, may I have some more?

Matt Shaw (2-for-4, 1 RBI and his 1st steal) was recalled by the Cubs, as was reported here after reading about it elsewhere. This spells the end to Brujan and Berti, E-N-D, but Shaw really needs to make better contact than he was making during his last MLB stint, which I’m assuming he can do, but an assumption makes an AJ Smith-Shawver out of an ump and Texas Instruments, I think I’m getting that wrong. We’re a week away from Memorial Day ( I looked it up) but around here, the kids are off school for Victoria Day.
