Now that the splendor of Opening Day has worn off and the deluge of baseball washes over us, becoming the white noise of our summer lives, you may be starting to worry about those slow-starting fantasy teams. Especially if your team spent a first round pick on Julio Rodriguez (no homers, .185 average and 41 wRC+ currently) or Aaron Judge (.179 average and 85 wRC+ to-date) or absorbed George Kirby’s latest start (3.2 IP, 8 runs allowed against the Guardians), it’s likely that you’ve dismayingly sunk to towards the standings basement. Not to be confused of course with famed LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne aka Livvy Dunne, who’s name I’m admittedly only mentioning for the SEO, however she is almost fantasy adjacent due to her relationship with Pirates hot shot phenom Paul Skenes who has been completely dominant in his first two starts. Happy April! We’re one week into the season now, and personally, I feel like it’s been much longer. Sure, it’s beyond wonderful to have baseball back, but some of the pitching has been… well, disappointing so far (like, disappointing enough that I feel it’s taking months off my life). When given information, we naturally try to make sense of it by creating a causal story/narrative, which, if true, would explain our data. Massive amounts of data would be most effective; the averages would be more accurate, the margins of error would be smaller, and the outliers could be more easily identified.
