We are barely over a week into the 2024 fantasy baseball season and if you are anything like me, injuries have ravaged. Between Trevor Story, Luis Robert Jr., and Royce Lewis we are all hurting and starting to plug holes in creative ways. This is the time of the season where a hot start can be nothing more than luck and a poor start could simply from facing Shane Bieber (too soon?). This week, we sift through some of those hot starts and figure out who can simply plug a lineup hole versus a potential breakout where you should be dropping some real FAAB. This is where season’s can certainly be won with an astute pickup or lost by hanging on too long to your drafts dreams. Welcome to hitter profiles for 2024 fantasy baseball!

Now that the splendor of Opening Day has worn off and the deluge of baseball washes over us, becoming the white noise of our summer lives, you may be starting to worry about those slow-starting fantasy teams. Especially if your team spent a first round pick on Julio Rodriguez (no homers, .185 average and 41 wRC+ currently) or Aaron Judge (.179 average and 85 wRC+ to-date) or absorbed George Kirby’s latest start (3.2 IP, 8 runs allowed against the Guardians), it’s likely that you’ve dismayingly sunk to towards the standings basement. If it is Saturday, then it is time for another edition of Up-and-Coming Dynasty Players. After two weeks featuring players on the Los Angeles Angels, I'm moving to the Midwest and setting my sights on Will Benson of the Cincinnati Reds. Benson isn't a spring chicken. Now 25, he is a former first round draft pick, selected 14th overall out of high school in the 2016 draft by the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians). A left-handed hitter, Benson fits the mold of an outfielder selected in the first round as he has great size and athleticism with massive raw power. But the road to The Show has not been easy for Benson as he spent parts of seven seasons down on the farm. So why do I think Benson is an up-and-coming dynasty player? Let's find out.

Milwaukee Brewers rookie second baseman slash heart throb Oliver Dunn was 2-for-4 with his first career home run and steal. Have a day, rook! Bernie is hypppe! It’s Oliver Dunn time. Not to be confused of course with famed LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne aka Livvy Dunne, who’s name I’m admittedly only mentioning for the SEO, however she is almost fantasy adjacent due to her relationship with Pirates hot shot phenom Paul Skenes who has been completely dominant in his first two starts.
