What is up party people? This has already been an incredibly exciting week for baseball and we’re not even to the weekend yet. Two of the top prospects in baseball have been called up! Jordan Walker reclaims his rightful place in the big leagues while Elly De La Cruz gets his first taste of the show. Ok ok, technically Walker got the call last week but it was after my article got posted and I’ll take any excuse to talk about him. Since his triumphant return, he has blasted a bomb but more encouragingly, he has started every game. Big things are in store. As for Elly, the sky really is the limit and he wasted no time showing off what he can do, ripping a double at 112 MPH for his first hit. He has the look of a superstar and I don’t want to throw cold water on him but his strikeout numbers could put a damper on things. Of course, he can improve and obviously, I want him on my team, but it is something to remember. In all likelihood, it is way too late to add either of them by the time you read this. That being said…
Spencer Steer is not the only Reds prospect worthy of your attention. He’s been pretty solid all season He has hit another level and that’s why you should want him. He really does have a lot to offer and if recent history has been an indication, the Reds are about to be a fantasy banquet.
J.D. Martinez is streaky as heck. But he is also capable of hitting a whole bunch of home runs in a short period. Unfortunately. that makes it hard to know when he’s about to go off. You have to take the good with the bad and when he’s on he is locked in.
Luis Arraez may be totally unavailable but swings such a great bat. His contact is elite, like off-the-charts elite and without mentioning it, I sincerely hope he can do what he’s been doing all season
Bryan De La Cruz is not the only one of his name that wants to be on your radar. I’ve long been a fan but this is more than I could have hoped.
Luke Raley is a Ray and with how well that team has been playing this season you want any and all of their hitters. He has an intriguing blend of power and speed which should play well in points leagues. His batting average has been good enough as has his playing time.
Willi Castro has found his way into fairly regular at bats of late. Given the Twin’s injury woes, I expect that to continue for the near future. Don’t rush to grab him outside of deeper leagues but I’m certainly keeping an eye on him after his recent run.
Matt McLain is yet another hot Reds prospect who should have your attention. He got the call a bit earlier than Elly and all he’s done since then is bat almost .350 with a couple bombs and 6 doubles. In addition to his strong performance, he also has some goofy roster numbers. In ESPN leagues it is only 24% but on CBS he is rostered in 73% of leagues so your mileage may vary as to whether he’s available.
LaMonte Wade Jr is in the midst of a nice bounce-back from last season. The leadoff spot appears to be his and coupled with his power is rather interesting. Eligibility at first base and outfield is a nice little bonus. Playing time against left-handed pitching may be an issue but he is a strong option against righties.
